Not connecting to Internet

I have a Nexus 4 and have been playing ABGO for some time I noticed a couple of days ago that I keep getting an error message stating “Check internet connection”.

I’ve tried on WiFi, Mobile Data and turning all connections of with the same result.2

There was an issue yesterday with Rovio’s servers. Try restarting your device and giving it another try.

Tried that and tried clearing the cache.
I forgot in my first post but I have this game om my Nexus 7 which is probably one or two updates behind which still works. Not sure what to do, its frustrating as I have a LOT of progress in the game.
