Gold Dome annoyance

Is it just me, of are the gold domes intelligently trying to force me to spend gems to use them? For the last 4-5 domes in a row, they only appear on the TF that is currently being upgraded!! If I don’t spend gems to upgrade early, the dome will time out before the upgrade is finished. Very annoying!!

Even more annoying? I have spent the gems at least once, and the level was a dud. I got a normal level of coins…

It has happened to me two more times since my original post. ALWAYS the TF being upgraded. Sometimes without any possibility of playing unless I use gems to complete the upgrade. That must be the point – you have to spend a ton of gems to play the gold dome.

The thing is, in recent weeks I have played gold dome levels that barely netted me more coins than normal. Same thing with trying to catch the eggbot. That used to be a surefire way to get more coins, but now, not so much. Admittedly, my last gold dome level I got over 50,000, but that is the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, it does happen more often than you’d think based on pure randomness, although for me it’s not quite as bad as it happening 1-to-1.

In any case, I don’t bother doing Gold Domes any more – gems are so hard to come by now compared to coins, that it’s not worth the extra coins to spend ten gems to get them.

Only reason I can think of doing one now is trying to beat the achievements for total coins earned in a single event, but I understand that there’s a Energonicon that will boost your coins as well.

It’s not THAT hard to get gems. You can often get a bunch by converting extra stuff in the professors lab. I suppose you can easily lose them there too. I guess the lab is kind of like a casino!

I did just clear a gold dome. The TF was fully upgraded and the dome was active for 10 more hours, so it wasn’t a problem. 50,000 coins.

I don’t have access to the lab, because I’m delaying updating until I absolutely have to.

3 SuperRarium in the lab have a 1 in 5 chance of yielding 50 gems.

1 DeceptiGear + 2 Badness Processors have a 1 in 5 chance of yielding 35 gems.

There are many other high yielding recipes that make all of the materials or gems or even pigs and coins readily available. Due to the retry system in the lab, you might have to spend some gems to make some, but if you stay with it a bit, you’ll end up way ahead in whatever you need.

@optimuspig, you really should consider upgrading and coming along. I have also found the playability of the game to be much better balanced and with dozens of Energonicons to choose from, there are a lot of new ways to approach the runs.

1 SR + 1 BP + 1 AC is my fav = 35 Gems, 3 SR or 3 SR more often than not ;-)

(better odds on the ones that have only 2 chances of receiving coins, instead of 3 for getting something you want or need)

Well I’m thinking either when I hit R378 or R405.

I’m really in no rush, especially since we’re still getting reports of the game not launching or folks losing progress, and other miscellaneous bugs. At least the bugs I’ve got are manageable :)

Also, I didn’t start playing this game so that I could spend most of my time managing resources – the original model of blow things up, collect coins, use coins to upgrade TFs was just fine by me. If I’d wanted to spend most of my time crafting stuff, I’d just play an MMORPG :P
