the walkthrough says use paldin on red, what if you do not have that headgear? what do you use then?

Use Samurai instead. This will allow you to shield strongly from Demonic WizPig’s attacks. Samurai is number 1 for charge bosses. If you don’t have Paladin, you should have Samurai then, which doesn’t cost LC.
