Bad Piggies Behind the Scenes – Bad Piggies Never Give Up

We don’t always post these type of videos, but when we do, you can bet they’re funny (read this like a popular beer commercial). To quickly set the stage. The video gives us fans our first true behind the scenes look at how the Bad Piggies are brought to life on the small screen. The Bad Piggies aren’t created in a normal studio like you might think. Quite the contrary, Rovio uses advanced motion — and “emotion” — capturing to bring the piggies to life. I won’t say much more, just sit back and watch the magic for yourself.

I will leave you with this quote from the video:

“Life is not about how how fast your run, or high you climb. It’s about how high you bounce.”

Happy Friday!

Woooooooooowwww, I never would have guessed that this is how they create the emotions of the piggies, woooooooooowwwww….. Wonder how they create the emotions of the birds?

I had no idea so much effort went into portraying emotions of characters in the game!
Would be nice to see a little more on how they transfer motion / emotion from the actors to the pigs.
    May have to watch again.

I watched without sound, but have to say this was one of the highlights of my day!

I didn’t have idea they use real people’s emotions to create those silly piggies’ gestures. We knew that Rovio’s crew is creatve but this was surprising. God, I love pigs rolling eyes, ouching, making those worried face expretions or giggling, laughing a loud, bad piggies are the cutest negative characters ever.

    Wow. Who knew?

Profound; deeply moved; flabbergasted; speechless; and not too mention way too much time on their hands!

I would love to see the person and his face doing the winning piggy after completing a level :)

After I saw the video, I only want to say, WOW!
Yeah, I never thought of that they create BP by doing lots of skillful motions. No wonder BP get the IGN Best of 2012.
    Thank you BP team!

    Just amazing! Just amazing!
I would have never guessed the animation in the pig’s face and some of their movements in the Bad Piggies game were taken from real people. This is just one of those seemingly minor aspects of our lives that appears to have a major effect in our understanding and knowledge of something that most of us enjoy doing each day or on a regular basis and take for granted.

What will be truly enlightening is when I go back into the BP game, play it, and directly look into the pigs expression, eyes, face, movements, etc., knowing and understanding they came from human and not an artist’s automated sketch board.

Wow…… Well, I guess Mother Nature always helps out in the end. I thought it was all computer tech.

Wow, I thought they make bad piggies only using Unity 3D. Great job Rovio!

Yeah! that’s really the most impressive game making ever. But some people didn’t believe on it. I saw their comment about their doubt :/

Yeah, some people think this is a parody, but it doesn’t seem a parody for me

It’s a parody of all those “Making Of” bonuses you get on DVDs.

AMAZING !!!! I thought the game is simple but after seeing video…. very hard work is done in this game .

Hey guys… sorry to be a downer here, but look at the disclaimer on the bottom of the credits. This video is parody. This is not actually how they animate the characters, it’s a joke. Motion Capture only really makes sense when used on models of a similar shape to what they’re trying to recreate. As the piggies are nothing more than circles, they would have a lot more luck bouncing a basketball and watching its reaction.

With that said, the video is hilarious and I can’t believe how much effort went into it.

I realized after posting this that some of you are being sarcastic, so I’m not sure if this clarification was needed or not. It’s kind of hard to tell. :P

I am shocked that anyone took this seriously.
Would have been a great April Fool’s gag if they held it for a month.
Green screen/motion capture is used for advanced animation – the pinnacle being what was done to animate Gollum in TLotR.
Putting out an actor with a fire extinguisher? C’mon… LOL.

I was one of the first two people to recognize this as a hugely funny spoof. I made the same comment as you about April 1st, among other things. . . Strangely enough, these comments were swiftly “disappeared” . . I’m still wondering why.

Well, foo! I liked the idea of it’s being real. Maybe Rovio got March and April mixed up, or is March 1 the equivalent of April Fools in Finland?

I hope Rovio make a video for April Fools :P

ROVIO! Would love to see some offtakes sometime. . . can’t believe the cast managed to keep a straight face throughout! What fun you all must have had making this video! LOL

Was this not released 1 month too early?

Seems to me (true or not) this would have been a great April 1 video, not March 1.

Wow! To see the video surprised me a lot, I never imagined that a game like this, is designed that way. Whenever Rovio surprises me more.
