If you have been anxiously waiting for the Angry Birds to come flying through your 40-inch flatscreen HD television set — or even that 18-inch, 150-pound set with the rabbit ears on top — your wait may soon be over! Activision and Rovio have confirmed that they are teaming up to bring the Angry Birds Trilogy to gaming consoles! There is a lot that has been confirmed in a recent article by IGN.com, which even contains a nice video with a look at some of the imagery involved. (We took a couple screenshots and included them below, but be sure to check out IGN’s video as well.)
After reading the article and watching the video ourselves, we can confirm, speculate, and question nearly everything that you may want to know about this new game. So, let’s run down some of the highlights.
What we know:
- The so-called “Angry Birds Trilogy” (herein called ABT) will be a single disc/cartridge that contains the first three mobile apps: Angry Birds, Seasons, and Rio.
- ABT will be available for XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo 3DS. In addition to controller gameplay, gamers will be able to use Kinect, Move, and StreetPass, respectively, to fling birds at those evil pigs and marmosets. And for all our 3DS gamers, yes, you will be able to play in either 2D or 3D.
- Update: On 12 July, Activision confirmed the pricing information. The discs will sell for $39.99 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and for $29.99 on 3DS.
- Petri Järvilehto (Executive VP of Games, Rovio): “There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content.” We aren’t entirely sure what these extra and such will entail, but we do notice a mini-biography about Terence during the video, so it could include that.
- Järvilehto: “The backgrounds have been animated, we’ve added lighting modes, reactive backgrounds, the list goes on and on.” Frankly, the images shown in the video look incredible. Even the Episode Selection Screen looks super slick!
- Individual leaderboards for each level!
What we speculate:
Disclaimer: These speculations are based solely on images seen in the video. During the next few months, Rovio could very well change things, so any or all of these items could be nixed by the time the final product comes around.
- About 18 secs into the video there they show an Episode Selection Screen of Angry Birds Seasons. Based on this it appears that the Mighty Eagle will be in the game! Notice the feather counter.
- Also based on this image, it appears that the Facebook/Twitter levels will be unlocked or unlockable! Notice the feather/star counter is accurate for 18 levels.
What we don’t know:
- When will it be released?
- Will ABT receive updates? I believe this is what IGN means when they asked about the “free level packs iOS and Android players received”, but I’m just speculating about their author’s wording.
- Will the aforementioned “individual level leaderboards” be inter-platform? That is, will XBox scores appear on the leaderboard of a PS3 user?
Too bad neither Wii nor upcoming Wii U didn’t on the list…I can say that the Angry Birds will be perfectly playful with Wii Remote with Nunchuk as the birds’ slingshot, just liked to swing the real slingshot!!
Do they even make wii games anymore?
Yup like Mario Party 9
No prob.!!At least have Wii U…
Wow! I’d like that for Christmas. It Kinda Reminds me of Sonic Generations. Why? Because it was Released on Xbox 360, PS3 and 3DS
The price has been announced now, http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/07/11/angry-birds-trilogy-announced.aspx. It’s $29.99 for 3DS and $39.99 for PS3 and XBox 360.
Post updated. Thanks.
Since all the 3 games are being put in a full game called Angry birds Trilogy so can we consider them as finished or will there be updates for Trilogy also.
Angry Birds Rio-I think it is finished
Angry birds Original-Will get the updates for surf and turf and Pigini beach
Angry Birds Seasons-Cant say whether it is finished or not
These aren’t finished.
This sounds more and more like a compilation game, but since it’s three titles in one package the best recent analogues for similar ideas would be the Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank compilations, though the only similarity is the structure.
I Think AB Seasons is finished if Rovio update 2 episode in seasons 2012
None of the games are finished. We expect many more updates.
Slim,Activision announced that they aren’t developing it,but Housemarque is,activision is just the publisher, perhaps the best place to keep on a lookout is this site :) http://www.housemarque.com/2012/07/12/housemarque-and-rovio-team-up-for-angry-birds-trilogy/
We already have more information than in this post, such as pricing information.
Pre-Order out on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Angry-Birds-Trilogy-Playstation-3/dp/B008J16AH4/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp.
There are some game images on the Amazon page as well.
Noticed the following in the product description as well, “19 episodes—each with an exclusive, new level.” Sweet! :)
Hmm, it says that “This item will be released on October 16, 2012.” so it means it’ll be released on October.
But IGN said it’s December 31?Which is right?
US Realese: 25th Sept.
UK Realese: 26th Oct.
Price For UK: £24.99
Probably amazon, they’re the ones selling them. Besides, it wouldn’t make sense to release a game on Dec 31st and miss the entire holiday season.
The best guess is a range. Rovio and Housemarque (which may be able to publish in areas other than NA) would like to release the game on 10.16.2012, but they are giving themselves until 12.31.2012 to find a date when they can begin to roll out the product as they choose.
Nice cant wait
The Mighty Eagle will appear: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151027748794928&set=a.10151027748489928.451376.314467614927&type=1&theater
This was already included in the post. See “Speculate” section.
I have a 3Ds, how will the 3D mode work for A game like Angry Birds?
Maybe just tic the little thing up to 3D
I know how 3d mode works @angrybirdiscool , what i mean is how would angry birds look like in 3d?
Maybe the birds will look like, they’re right before your face, as for it’s 3D effect. Also, I think it should be better that the menus, controls and stuffs is on the Bottom Screen, while the levels are on the Top Screen, as the 3DS only has 3D effects for the Top Screen only.
$39.99 and $29.99 pricing for an AB game??? I can’t believe it, that’s a ridiculous price for an AB game, unless there’s a LOT of new levels in there :(.
Hi @pigflinger, the AB CD ROMs which I chose to purchase rather than download the games, cost $20 each here in Australia. (I like having the discs.)
As prices go (for any of the console games), 30-40 dollars isn’t bad.
On the Angry Birds FB page, they posted a picture that looks like a new bird for Angry Birds Space: http://tinyurl.com/7b24l5f
Perhaps the Space version of the Orange Bird? Mind you, I’m just spitballing here.
Is ABT region-locked for the 3DS?
That’s a big maybe.
Can you possibly send a private message to AMslimfordy with more details on what you consider region-locked to be? He might be able to inquire further.
I’m merely considering your possible desires in this matter.
The region-lock is when I have that game, let’s say it’s US, and I play it with a non-US 3DS, the game won’t work.
The game, like for example Mario Kart 7, is region-locked. All 3DS games are region-locked, no exceptions.
I would just like to point out that while Kinect and Move are both physical moving things (probably to launch the birds), the 3DS’s Streetpass isn’t something that could launch a bird. Rather, it’s more of a DLC service, and it would probably allow 3DS users to swap game data (rankings, etc) or possibly unlock special levels.
I hope though that we’ll be able to use the touchscreen to launch the birds. I’ve been wanting to use a stylus when playing since like forever.
Maybe this is how they bring the AB Magic levels to everyone else.
A good idea for that is putting the sling on the Bottom Screen and the levels on the Top Screen to be able to see them in 3D, maybe?
A cool way to AB on almost any platform!
Yay on my turquoise ‘n’ black 3DS there will be AB,ABS&ABR yayay
My Angry Birds 3DS case will fit PERFECTLY with my 3DS, especially with Angry Birds Trilogy.
Looks like Rovio is posting another sneak-peek on AB Trilogy: http://twitpic.com/a7wzyb
well,it’s look’s really great but what that make me sad is the price
I only have Wii! :( But I am going to by PS3 soon! :) Then I can play Angry Birds Trilogy! :)
I got the original Angry Birds on PS3 Already. The one I got is labeled minis, and is still the same as when Angry Birds Original came out. I sill can’t wait for Angry Birds trilogy though.
Maybe also the QR code feature (those weird pics in B&W) would be used for new special levels!
I read that AB will be on Samsung Smart TV along with motion controls. Also, if somebody has AB on PS3, will his progress also be on ABT?
I also heard there is going to be a new AB where you must protect the pigs from being killed. That would be nice.
So, it would be something like: AB “Save The Pigs?”. Kind of turns the whole AB concept on it’s ear, doesn’t it?
That’s… a pretty strange ides.
hmmm….doesn’t sound like an AB thing to do
If I am not wrong, the release date is scheduled for 9/25.
i don’t know why rovio decide to make angry birds trilogy of xbox 360 and ps3, in my opinion it would make more sense if they do it in wii or ds (or both)
why? because the xbox and play station players only like more ”adult like” games such as call of duty or grand theft auto.
There’s a new box art cover for ABT. Also, from I read on Amazon, the game comes with achievements and one new exclusive level in each episode. And get this: ActiVision said that ABT will be getting DLC (downloadable content).
I have photos of the level select screens and it will release September 25 (gamefly)
I have the images from google.
The achievment list has been post
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/angry-birds-trilogy/achievements/
New trailer! New website! trilogy.angrybirds.com The trailer’s on the rovio youtube channel.
I bought Angry Birds Nintendo DS for Christmas for my son but it’s 3D and doesn’t fit into my Nintendo DSi XL. Will they be bringing out a 2D version? Going to have to sell my 3D version on ebay!
We don’t have this sort of information. I don’t foresee a further release however.
