Buckle up Angry Birds fans! We’re about to make the jump to lightspeed. During our trip we’ll be handing out complimentary refreshments, as well as breaking down Angry Birds Star Wars in as much detail as possible. First things first though, take a deep breath, you must.
Yes, the wait is finally over, Angry Birds Star Wars is now available for iOS, PC, Mac and Android via Google Play with more platforms coming soon (okay okay, so it’s technically not over for everyone…yet)! If you’re eager to know more right away, you’re in luck. Above is our hands-on “zero-hour” first look at this amazing game above. The video isn’t super polished. Rather, it’s meant to give your first glimpse at the gameplay, episodes, characters, Mighty Millennium Falcon, and more.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the details.
The Cargo: What’s Included
This is what we all want to know. What exactly is included in this initial release? Well, in two short words: A LOT!!!
- Two episodes, 80 levels: We begin our journey on Tatooine, then move onward to the Death Star. As a great treat, these include forty levels each!! Yes, Rovio is really beating all expectations. We also see that the next planet to be released is the icy world of Hoth. We have walkthroughs for all levels done and they’re coming online now.
- Golden Explorer Droids! These are absolutely the droids you are looking for. Golden Droids are just like Golden Eggs in that finding and obtaining them unlocks a level in the episode called “Bonus”. There are five Golden Droids in the initial release, numbered D-1 thru D-5. We will be creating a guide for these very soon.
- More bonus levels! Also within the “Bonus” episode, there are six levels, numbered S-1 thru S-6, which are unlocked by obtaining a certain number of stars. The first is unlocked at 10 stars, then 70, 130, 190, 250, 310. Note that these star counts include levels within “Bonus”.
- Path of the Jedi! takes place on Dagobah — which is where Luke Skywalker first meets the Jedi Master Yoda. Path of the Jedi is much like Danger Zone from Angry Birds Space. It contains 40 very challenging levels. It’s available as an in-app purchase for iOS and Google Play for $1.99 USD, and free for PC. (We will update as information comes in about availability on other platforms.) This is a non-sequential episode with levels numbered J-1 thru J-40. If you are not sure whether you are ready to be a Jedi, the first level is available for free.
Update: It has been brought to our attention that, for iOS and Android, “Path of the Jedi” can be unlocked for free. To do so, the user must 3-star all available levels. (In v1.0.0, this means 3-starring all levels of both Tatooine and Death Star.) We are not aware of this will change in the future. - Mighty Millennium Falcon We’ve covered it in a bit more detail below.
The Who: Meet the Characters
Who will join us on our noble quest to defeat the ruthless Piglactic Porkpire?
- Red Bird = Luke Skywalker
Our humble, original bird has a brand new hairdo and starts off with the same old power: Nothing. But, on level 1-9 of Tatooine, he obtains a lightsaber! At the tap of a finger, he can slice his way through blocks or redirect laser beams. Very important note! All bird abilities can be triggered during flight or shortly after impact. This is a new feature, and very useful. - Yellow Bird = Han Solo
No speed boost this time around. Instead, he wields a laser gun of his own. Similar to the Lazer bird in Space, point to where you would like Han to fire. Three quick blasts and he continues on his own parabolic path. Remember, lasers bounce off metal objects. - Blue birds = Pilots of the Rebellion
They still have their classic splitting ability, though I think they pack a bit more a punch in this app (probably due to their awesome helmets). - Black bird = Obi-Wan Kenobi
No explosion here! Instead, Obi-Wan uses the force to push nearby blocks with significant force and distance. Tap the screen to not only trigger, but also direct this ability. Think of the Lazer bird, though proximity is certainly a factor. - Big Brother bird = Chewbacca (aka “Chewie”)
Big Brother has put on some extra weight … and hair (exercising is tough in space). Chewie has no special ability besides girth and momentum, but he is extremely powerful. Notice how the whole screen shakes when he hits. - White bird = C-3PO
Our golden metallic friend will, on your command, explode. The chunks of metal will pepper the level like machine gunfire, detonating any TNT that crosses its path. - Egg = R2-D2
Beep-Boop! Fling R2 (not to be confused with our favorite Rovio developer) and tap the screen to trigger an electronic blast toward nearby pigs. The blast will typically dislodge most structures in its proximity as well. - Pink bird = Princess Leia
She does not appear as a playable character yet, but we know from teased gameplay footage that she will have some sort of tractor beam to pull nearby objects. She does appear in the cut-scenes during gameplay, however.
The How: Gameplay Tips
While some of the game mechanics of Angry Birds Star Wars are familiar, others take some getting used to. Below are a few tips that might help you along the way.
- As we noted above, abilities can be triggered shortly after impact now. You don’t have a lot of time though, so think — and act — quickly young Jedi.
- Both Luke’s lightsaber and Obi-Wan’s force push can deflect laser beams. Deflected laser beams seem to like to target galactic swine.
- Use laser cannons and blasters to your advantage. Sometimes the best way to 3-star a level is to change their direction with a gentle — or not so gentle — nudge.
- Han Solo’s blasters are quite powerful and can bounce off metal as well (they are lasers after all). He also continues on his current course, so it’s like getting two shots in one.
- Lasers can also give your bird a boost, nudge, or roll. While not used often, it’s definitely helpful in some levels.
The Rebel: Mighty Millennium Falcon
I find it quite fitting that the most memorable ship in Star Wars is named after a bird. The Mighty Millennium Falcon is available as consumable in-app purchases. You can buy 20 for $1.99 USD, 50 for $4.99, 110 for $9.99, or 225 for $19.99. (Please do not use this space to criticize this feature. There are forum threads for that.) You also earn them at periodic intervals, relating to how many stars you have earned.
To summon the Mighty Millennium Falcon, tap the icon and the button will place a Space Egg in the slingshot. Fling it toward the structure and either manually summon the target, or the target will be set automatically a few seconds after initial impact. The falcon will appear and target the cross-hairs with its lasers.
Scoring is identical to the Space Eagle in Angry Birds Space. You must have at least 1 bird in your holster to use a Space Egg. Leftover birds count as bonuses towards your score. It does not guarantee the popping of all pigs. Multiple Falcons can be used per level, as well as using normal birds after Falcons. There is an in-try Total Destruction meter, and reaching 100% earns a medal to pin to your lapel.

Is this correct: once red bird obtaned the saber in level 1-9, he can use it in every level?
And in Game Center it sais that other birds can also improve their abilities. Is this true?
Yup its true, you can go back and use it to obtain a higher score
Sorry, not in Game Center, but in the App Store.
I believe Obi-Wan’s Force gets stronger later in the game.
The lightsaber also gets stronger once you have finished the IAP of path of the jedi
Yes, when Obi-wan dies, he gets stronger. Luke obtains a lightsaber. I think that’s what they mean.
After you pass the Path Of The Jedi, Luke will obtain a new green lightsaber. It’s more powerful than the blue lightsaber. You’ll gonna cut through metal blocks too!
That’s good to know. I should be able to wring some more points out of other levels with that!
Luckily I read this before wasting more time to max out my scores with the blue lightsaber. I think the admins or other tipsters should mention it earlier.
So we should actually complete “Path of the Jedi” 1st to obtain the green lightsaber then think of improving our scores for the earlier episodes.
But what I’m worried is that will other new weapons/abilities (enabling you to improve your scores) be unlocked later then ??
Glad to read this great post. With this information one can save themselves a great deal of time going through the levels and then go back through a second time. The above average scores ought to rise.
Wow…sharing knowledge just helps us all.
Played the first ten levels and this AB’s game is just plain fun. The music, backgrounds and play action all take me back to the SW movies.
ditto @wrw01 it is a great game and well worth buying. It certainly pays to read the posts/information here at ABN – especially about gaining stronger weapons as you advance and saving your money re Path of the Jedi.
AB Star Wars is more like many of the other games available on various devices but I like that. It is also still fun to go back and play “normal” AB though, (without power ups) – its simplicity has always been its biggest drawcard.
I finished it on my iPhone, and in the new instructions it showed Luke in a black robe. Should he have the black robe when we play with him after completing the Path of the Jedi like the instructions, because I don’t…
No. I was thinking about the same thing with you!
That is absolutelly not fair. Rovio makes people to buy Path of Yetti just to play and pass it to get more powerfull weapon and return to levels to increase their scores. I am very dissapointed hearing this. Just very, very unfair. That is definitely downside of this such a wonderfull game.
I think it’s fair because Path of the Jedi are like a new Danger Zone, and I think it’s nice with a reward for completed it!
When I said it is unfair I did’t mean that super-players don’t deserve to be rewarded, that is GC acheivements for. I thought that isn’t fair to get more powerfull weapon and possibility to replay levels in regular episodes and lift average scores which coluldn’t be beaten without purchasing (playing) IAP. that is classical power up.
As much as it pains me because I enjoy the ability to make my birds stronger, I do agree. This does smack as an IAP that is required to get the higher scores. If they eventually make PotJ free, or give another way to get a lightsabre, then it makes the point moot, but for now it is a bit cheesy.
I’m much happier with paying an extra $2 for Pat of the Jedi, and getting extra powers as well, than paying per use for the MMF.
I disagree. As someone who doesn’t mind paying I am happy that I am rewarded with more features than just level sets.
It is very fair, how many other games out there cost just 2 dollars and always keep improving or expanding. Any other “video” game out there costs 50 dollars and once your done, your done (mostly)
Lucky for us PC Users!
The Bonus S-# level is unlocked on how many you’ve collected the stars, not how many you have the stars. I’ve deleted my progress (except settings), and I’m currently have 44 stars, but S-3 has unlocked for me.
This type of data is saved on the settings file.
Right, you’re messing around with data files, which is a dangerous thing to do.
@cosmo2503 I think it is absolutely fair. It makes this game more exciting.
And, path of jedi is unlocked in iOS and android when u complete the two planets. Rovio is not making it a must to purchase it… U play and u earn it, i think thats the moto
Path of Yetti isn’t free, it is IAP for iOS and Android. It wouldn’t unlock after completing first two episodes. Unfair, unfair and very mean way to force people to purchase episode.
Really? Sorry but u may be didnt play DZ then
@lamia it is O.K to pay for extra game in game, but it is not fair to be rewarded with special weapon just for buying IAP episode which can be used after in original game.
@cosmo2503 oh! U r meaning that! Yeah but it is different game. It is like other games u know assasin creed or other game which u gain weapon to use to beat previous levels. It is that sort of game
You are so wrong. People that do pay should be rewarded. Any additional reward for paying extra is their way of telling us thank you.
If this is the case, it makes my earlier comment obsolete. I hope that it is the case once I finish the first 2 levels.
Someone should of told me that!i bought the had app, then $1.99 for path of the Jedi and then $1.99 because I wanted to try mighty falcon thinking it wouldn’t give any for free. I guess that’s what happens when you wake up at 3 am before a post is even available to tell me about it. Now iam also thinking, wont it soon be 99 cents and then free like seasons and original once was. Space was recently 99 and also will go down to free app of the week.
@amslimfordy I need a solution. My friend has Galaxy Y duos. She went to download ABSW from play store. Her android is 2.3.6 and absw require 2.2 and up. Then why is it not supporting? All other 4 games is smoothly playing in her phone.
Please read the Device Compatibility section of the post.
Okay
Slim I have a question and I do not know where I can posting: is about the game over the Mac users . Do you know if this game come in up with all the futures that are on the main menu like : Game Center leadersboard and achievements . Know it requires OSX 10.6 or later . Cause I have a Mac and it is into OSX Mountain Lion and I do have last version on update . If not Game Center futures I don not got it. Or it is worthy even without Game Center.!!! Please give the answer . And I’m sorry if this it not the right place to posting .
To date, no Mac version of Angry Birds has GameCenter support.
@lamia
I and your friend has the same problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Y Duos too.V.2.3.6.
At Nov 8th,I searched ABSW,there it is,it is compatible.
I downloaded it,but,it only shows a black screen, then heads to the home screen.
The next day after school,I searched ABSW,it is gone in the list, then I went to ‘My Apps’ and I saw ABSW there.
I tapped it,then at the top it said:
“Your device isn’t compatible with this version.”
So,I uninstalled.
I understand the general ability of Obi-Wan and the need to direct the force the way you want it to go. However, I am really having trouble understanding how to maximioze the force. I thought the closer you are to an object when it is activated the stronger it is. Could someone explain to me how to better control Obi-Wan? Example, what happens differently depending on the the distance you put the crosshairs at? I really would appreciate someone’s assistance with this.
@oldmanbird
If you place the crosshair far away from your actual target, it will go faster to reach the crosshair, so it’ll be much stronger.
@hidayat1999 Thanks for the tip. It does seem more powerful. However, I still haven’t aced the control of Obi-Wan. It seems like if you want to blast items out to a larger area placing the crosshairs closer seems to work better, but if you are going for pure power like to go through metal the crosshairs out further seem to work better. It confuses me that power and spread aren’t the same. However, thinking about again it does follow the rules of physics. Higher velocity more precise damage less spread, lower velocity damage is more spread but less precise.
The position of the crosshair will help you be more accurate (obviously) but doesn’t necessarily increase velocity or power for that matter.
The blocks you plan to use the force on, are on the other hand the main factor. Their size and weight play a big role. So placing the bird in the perfect location and the timing of the Force are key.
You want to be able to surround as many blocks with the Force between the bird and your intended target. As long as the blocks are not too heavy.
@sal9 Thanks for the explanation. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to maximize his power. The variable has to do with the items you are using it on, which explains why it was so difficult to pinpoint. That tip will save me alot of time in the future. It is very much appreciated.
@sal9 I got to try using Obi-Wan based on your tips last evening and it definitely helped improve his use. I was able to 3 star several that I was having trouble with. Thank you so much for your great advice.
a bug? when i open a new level sometimes he finished a level automatically, i do nothing. he just tell the points off the pigs
What platform are you using?
A bit of topic, but talks about star wars
I’m pretty sure the top of the page will be Star Wars soon like it was for space and piglantis in now (no back to school or haunted house themes I guess) and I am looking forward to it. Patience helps, I know, but I can’t wait to get rid of this old design. Not that it’s bad or anything.
what is the different between the black birds, the first one looks normal and the second one looks angry, is the second one just stronger?
he’s a lot stronger, after vader killed him :P
Ok thanks, im not so known in the star wars world, but it is a AWESOME game, finished tatooine and death star, now last one path of the jedy!
In the home screen you can see a button where you can see the characters you have reached, is it now possible to have all of these right now? because 4 are empty by me
I have four in the bottom row empty (one of them will be for 3-starring Jedi, I believe, which I haven’t done yet).
Ok, thanks, now i have 3 empty, and have not 3 starred a planet, that means for every planet you 3 starred there is one. Do you now btw how it is possible that i have now a luke skywalker bird with a green lightsaber? was playing a level and it was there, dont know why or how
It’s either completing or 3-starring Jedi. I think completing.
ok, its completing because i have just complete jedi, but not 3 starred. So far as i know there is no option to choose between them, if you reached the green lightsaber, you cant use the previous.
Confirmed, you upgrade Luke with the green lightsaber and black robe, and you have this upgraded ability when playing the other levels.
I just bought Path of the Jedi, then I read the update on this post about people being able to unlock it for free. And I’m sure many of them will use the walkthroughs! So mad… but I have bad temper. Happy again :)
Its a bit unfair bec if I have known it, I wouldnt have bought it and just 3starred every level…
My point exactly.
I was in the middle of 3-starring stage 29 (after finishing 2 bonus stages, 3-star) and my phone rebooted. When I started up SW Angry Birds, ALL of my progress was gone. It still displayed my 20 Millennium Falcons that I earned, but absolutely nothing else is there. Help?
What type of phone do you play on?
I saw the new update. That you can get Path of the Jedi for free if you get three star in Tatooine and Death Star. I buyed Path of the Jedi before I saw it, but I am not angry! Because when I have buyed Path of the Jedi I feel better because I feel I have supported Rovio better. So not angry because of that!
I love the game! It’s so awesome! I play it all the day!
3 starred all levels (Tatooine, Death Star, Path of the Jedi and Bonus)….Additionally have got 30/40 falcons on Tatooine…..I hope they release daily space falcons soon, as 20 bucks for a lousy 200 is a bigger price gouge than space :s
comparing it to $20 for 980 space eagles, very BIG difference, more than 50%, im still thinking if I want it..
On Nook no Mighty Falcon or Path of the Jedi. :(
If you’re close to a B&N store, you might try seeing if you get them through the in-store wi-fi like the regular Mighty Eagle.
There’s no guarantee, obviously, but it’s worth a try.
You didn’t mention in the post it is also out for Windows Phone and Windows 8.
I must say that this is the smoothest running game. You would think all the animations would make it laggy, but it doesn’t. Compared to the bugs when ABSpace came out, it is really great.
Will you guys release lessons for the Angry Birds Classroom for this in the near future?
I’m so looking forward to giving this a go. My Galaxy S is now showing its age, and I can’t install SW on it. I’ve decided that getting a new phone is a bit drastic, so will move to Mac for Angry Birds Star Wars.
I’ll have to get used to using a trackpad now. My thumbs will wither from under-use :)
Yeah, my phone can’t play ABSW, my xperia still broken, so now i’m using my father’s galaxy note 2 to play it
Hope Jedi is a new bird :) http://twitpic.com/bc3b0p/full
Did you mean Master Yoda?
Try it, I would… if it was compatible with my phone. All the other games have worked on my phone except the most recent seasons update and now this one.
They also will not work on my 2nd gen iPod touch. So frustrating that I have this technology that works fine and is still in great condition, but now the games don’t work on them [among other things]. Beyond frustrated with Apple – 2 year contract is up next month, might be time to make the switch to android systems…. but that means waiting to play my favorite games [I play nothing else but angry birds!].
@stacie – if I’m not mistaken there’s no way to transfer scores between IOS and Android. So that means starting all the games all over again from scratch. So think long and hard about that. And I’m an Android user.
This is from someone who got extremely frustrated with one of the AB vendors, dumped them completely, and had to do AB Space all over again. I can’t quite imagine doing all the games over again…
@AMslimfordy – is that correct?
We don’t advice people to transfer between platforms, but it’s likely better than nothing.
Is there any way to get rid of Luke’s lightsaber?
Doesn’t seem to be.
Of course!
Just don’t activate the power :P
I still stand by with what I said earlier. Now that Angry Birds Star Wars is out, they’ll have to follow up by making Angry Birds Star Wars Free but that won’t happen until they make several upgrades. They did the same thing with Space and the other versions.
There’re 3 mysterious chaacters at the end of the Characters Screen. Anybody know how to find them?
3 for each 3-starring planet
Are they Pigs or Birds?
No, they are planets with a 3 star ribbon
3-starring and “Falcon”ing episodes.
I have noticed that some of the comics made their way into the game as cutscenes. This reminded me- I want to know why cutscenes from this game and other recent games by rovio(angry birds original, seasons, rio, space, amazing Alex, bad piggies) are not shown on this website.
Why is no one replying?
We have every series of comics released by Rovio.
I know you do,but I am talking about the CUTSCENES.And I’m pretty sure that the comics will be updated a few days before the Hoth update.
We see no reason to post the cutscenes.
Does anyone knows what the codes from the Hasbro toys unlocks? If the reward is millenium falcons, then I would buy all of the toys,I’m in a falcon crisis! xP
What’s more expensive, buying the toys or the falcons directly?
The falcons directly.$20 for 200 falcons.
No,you get it wrong,I want to collect all the toys, figurines, cards and even stickers,If I bought them then at least that money for the toys is worth it xP
I can see that rovio will have no trouble coming up with a design for Jabba’s Minions
dont know if it was asked or answered yet, but will there be a free version released?
No word about a free version so far.
Just installed my PC version of the game. Black background on developer’s screen surprised me at first. But nevertheless good thing for a change… :)
I agree with the video I only like the on the ground part of the game not space.
