Buckle up Angry Birds fans! We’re about to make the jump to lightspeed. During our trip we’ll be handing out complimentary refreshments, as well as breaking down Angry Birds Star Wars in as much detail as possible. First things first though, take a deep breath, you must.
Yes, the wait is finally over, Angry Birds Star Wars is now available for iOS, PC, Mac and Android via Google Play with more platforms coming soon (okay okay, so it’s technically not over for everyone…yet)! If you’re eager to know more right away, you’re in luck. Above is our hands-on “zero-hour” first look at this amazing game above. The video isn’t super polished. Rather, it’s meant to give your first glimpse at the gameplay, episodes, characters, Mighty Millennium Falcon, and more.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the details.
The Cargo: What’s Included
This is what we all want to know. What exactly is included in this initial release? Well, in two short words: A LOT!!!
- Two episodes, 80 levels: We begin our journey on Tatooine, then move onward to the Death Star. As a great treat, these include forty levels each!! Yes, Rovio is really beating all expectations. We also see that the next planet to be released is the icy world of Hoth. We have walkthroughs for all levels done and they’re coming online now.
- Golden Explorer Droids! These are absolutely the droids you are looking for. Golden Droids are just like Golden Eggs in that finding and obtaining them unlocks a level in the episode called “Bonus”. There are five Golden Droids in the initial release, numbered D-1 thru D-5. We will be creating a guide for these very soon.
- More bonus levels! Also within the “Bonus” episode, there are six levels, numbered S-1 thru S-6, which are unlocked by obtaining a certain number of stars. The first is unlocked at 10 stars, then 70, 130, 190, 250, 310. Note that these star counts include levels within “Bonus”.
- Path of the Jedi! takes place on Dagobah — which is where Luke Skywalker first meets the Jedi Master Yoda. Path of the Jedi is much like Danger Zone from Angry Birds Space. It contains 40 very challenging levels. It’s available as an in-app purchase for iOS and Google Play for $1.99 USD, and free for PC. (We will update as information comes in about availability on other platforms.) This is a non-sequential episode with levels numbered J-1 thru J-40. If you are not sure whether you are ready to be a Jedi, the first level is available for free.
Update: It has been brought to our attention that, for iOS and Android, “Path of the Jedi” can be unlocked for free. To do so, the user must 3-star all available levels. (In v1.0.0, this means 3-starring all levels of both Tatooine and Death Star.) We are not aware of this will change in the future. - Mighty Millennium Falcon We’ve covered it in a bit more detail below.
The Who: Meet the Characters
Who will join us on our noble quest to defeat the ruthless Piglactic Porkpire?
- Red Bird = Luke Skywalker
Our humble, original bird has a brand new hairdo and starts off with the same old power: Nothing. But, on level 1-9 of Tatooine, he obtains a lightsaber! At the tap of a finger, he can slice his way through blocks or redirect laser beams. Very important note! All bird abilities can be triggered during flight or shortly after impact. This is a new feature, and very useful. - Yellow Bird = Han Solo
No speed boost this time around. Instead, he wields a laser gun of his own. Similar to the Lazer bird in Space, point to where you would like Han to fire. Three quick blasts and he continues on his own parabolic path. Remember, lasers bounce off metal objects. - Blue birds = Pilots of the Rebellion
They still have their classic splitting ability, though I think they pack a bit more a punch in this app (probably due to their awesome helmets). - Black bird = Obi-Wan Kenobi
No explosion here! Instead, Obi-Wan uses the force to push nearby blocks with significant force and distance. Tap the screen to not only trigger, but also direct this ability. Think of the Lazer bird, though proximity is certainly a factor. - Big Brother bird = Chewbacca (aka “Chewie”)
Big Brother has put on some extra weight … and hair (exercising is tough in space). Chewie has no special ability besides girth and momentum, but he is extremely powerful. Notice how the whole screen shakes when he hits. - White bird = C-3PO
Our golden metallic friend will, on your command, explode. The chunks of metal will pepper the level like machine gunfire, detonating any TNT that crosses its path. - Egg = R2-D2
Beep-Boop! Fling R2 (not to be confused with our favorite Rovio developer) and tap the screen to trigger an electronic blast toward nearby pigs. The blast will typically dislodge most structures in its proximity as well. - Pink bird = Princess Leia
She does not appear as a playable character yet, but we know from teased gameplay footage that she will have some sort of tractor beam to pull nearby objects. She does appear in the cut-scenes during gameplay, however.
The How: Gameplay Tips
While some of the game mechanics of Angry Birds Star Wars are familiar, others take some getting used to. Below are a few tips that might help you along the way.
- As we noted above, abilities can be triggered shortly after impact now. You don’t have a lot of time though, so think — and act — quickly young Jedi.
- Both Luke’s lightsaber and Obi-Wan’s force push can deflect laser beams. Deflected laser beams seem to like to target galactic swine.
- Use laser cannons and blasters to your advantage. Sometimes the best way to 3-star a level is to change their direction with a gentle — or not so gentle — nudge.
- Han Solo’s blasters are quite powerful and can bounce off metal as well (they are lasers after all). He also continues on his current course, so it’s like getting two shots in one.
- Lasers can also give your bird a boost, nudge, or roll. While not used often, it’s definitely helpful in some levels.
The Rebel: Mighty Millennium Falcon
I find it quite fitting that the most memorable ship in Star Wars is named after a bird. The Mighty Millennium Falcon is available as consumable in-app purchases. You can buy 20 for $1.99 USD, 50 for $4.99, 110 for $9.99, or 225 for $19.99. (Please do not use this space to criticize this feature. There are forum threads for that.) You also earn them at periodic intervals, relating to how many stars you have earned.
To summon the Mighty Millennium Falcon, tap the icon and the button will place a Space Egg in the slingshot. Fling it toward the structure and either manually summon the target, or the target will be set automatically a few seconds after initial impact. The falcon will appear and target the cross-hairs with its lasers.
Scoring is identical to the Space Eagle in Angry Birds Space. You must have at least 1 bird in your holster to use a Space Egg. Leftover birds count as bonuses towards your score. It does not guarantee the popping of all pigs. Multiple Falcons can be used per level, as well as using normal birds after Falcons. There is an in-try Total Destruction meter, and reaching 100% earns a medal to pin to your lapel.

Loving it already, and HD for the Nexus 7 makes it even better !!
From what I’ve seen all HD does is make the buttons bigger. I’ve been playing on an N7 myself and just the free version for now.
Enjoy! :)
Thanks R2. Truly amazing game.
Congratulations!!! This is prob the best AB title!!
free on Googlr Play!!
Add free 0.99 $ as IAP recomended to get rid of those annoying adds.
I cannot find the 99 cent version. Will deal with the ads for now I guess.
@Kathy54923, Add free version is available as IAP. There is a n icon on main screen.
They just need to add this IAP to Seasons and ABO so I can finally get rid of the rest of the ads I am subjected to.
And to reply to myself, any noticable difference in the graphics quality between the HD and normal versions on Android? In the past, the HD hasn’t really done anything.
@AMslimfordy – You might want to update the availability section to show that there are only two versions on the Google Play store, one HD for $2.99 and one free that is ad-supported, but an IAP can be made for $.99 to remove the ads.
@AMslimfordy, you can buy Path Of The Jedi on Google Play too! :)
Can’t find it on the UK store!
@amslimfordy is milenium falcon and path of jedi available for PC? I cant check as my pc doomed
Path of the Jedi IS included in the PC version
No Mighty Millenium Falcons for PC
I am so excited, it is finally here. I have already had it on both devices and can’t wait ’till tonight to start playing.
can you write, how to get this golden helmet on 1-13?
Our walkthroughs and leaderboards are coming, but in the meantime you can view our video for D-1 on YouTube.
You could deflect the shooting red bullet to the golden droid with Obi Wan
Anyone know whats that unlock thing in left down corner on the opening screen. What can you unlock with that and where can you find some codes?
Yeah, I saw that, too! I don’t know what’s it’s for, though since you’ll have IAPs that don’t require them.
If I understand correctly some unlock codes are found in merchandise related to the game and unlock a goodie or two… For example certain toys at retail shops will have a code. They should make their way around the Internet in short time.
Ok thats seems be it,
@amslimfordy Thanks for the comprehensive look at star wars ,sitting here with snailpace dowload speed watching it loading ,cant wait .not sure how long its been out in Australia for (ipad),but its gonna be along night ..Enjoy
Yeah!!! I cant think how much time I will spend playing this game :)
Best angry birds ever…
I agree : the whole thing: music; color, scenario , graphics so many joys . On iPad excellent . On iPod 5 16.9 so wonderful I never ever enjoy a game like this one; for ROVIO not even two or tree star. I give 5 stars seriously .
@nacho18 music and graphic are awesome, totally stunning. I played through first 10 levels, gameplay is cool too, so far very much like ABO.
I did too . I played 10 levels ; I got 3 stars each. And I found out one gift for me on bonus levels the first one I did also 3 star in this one the effects on the Droids are so stunning and the music very much enjoyable.
@nacho18, I also got three stars on first 10 played levels and now we have to see are those scores decent or just lame…
i also like how the level fight back with bullets…and the fact the we can use their weapon to our interest…
I was able to play the Jedi level without paying anything.
first level is free. then u pay to unlock the rest
Ah okay.
Its so fun!! Rovio is awesome! Best Angry birds yet! They have so many stories they can base chapters off of this app could get gigantic!! :) btw does anyone know what the unlock code thing on the home screen is for?
I have the same question.
Yes that would be interesting :-)
From AB tweets: It’s a code you get when you purchase Hasbro’s #ABSW toys, it unlocks Millenium Falcons / Path of the Jedi.
Yeeeeah cool Game :-)
Tip: don’t bother going for high scores on the first levels. When you get the light sabre you can go back armed for much higher scores.
Very sweet tip @f91jsw
Truth be told, I’m not a Star Wars fan. In fact, the only Star Wars movie I’ve personally seen is Return of the Jedi. But growing up, one would never escape the various merchandise, references, and memes the franchise has produced. I’d once wore a T-shirt bearing C3PO, had seen Luke, the Droids, Chewbacca on the Muppet Show, even heard of Weird Al Yankovic’s “The Saga Begins” (based on “American Pie”). I’ve even noted Grant Imahara, Tory Belleci, and even Adam Savage of the MythBusters making references to the series, thanks in part to Grant and Tory working for a time at ILM.
But, all be told, this game sets itself apart from the other AB games in that several of the Birds have completely different powers from their regular ones in the other games, particularly Red as Luke and Chuck as Han Solo. So I think any non-fan of Star Wars would have fun playing this game as with any AB game with a new “dimension,” so to speak.
Rovio has outdone themselves again by launching angry birds stars wars completely different and better than other angry birds editions launched so far these will be by far the best angry birds game in terms of better game play, graphics ,characters.
According to Rovio VP Ville Heijari, ABSW is #1 in the US appstore in just 2.5 hrs, i think it beats Bad Piggies’ record of 3 hrs. Big cheers to Rovio!!!
“Path of the Jedi” was already unlocked for me when I downloaded the free version on Google Play (with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone).
The first level is available for free. After that you must purchase the episode.
Where all the levels available to you?
Yes, only can play 1 level.
Yes you are right; only the first level is playable for free. I was at work yesterday so I couldn’t test it until recently.
How to backup the progress?
Same as the other AB games: https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/angry-birds-ultimate-backup-tutorial-for-all-platforms/
Bravo Rovio:)! Simply stunning! I haven’t enjoyed playing an AB game with the volume up in a long time:)
Sound is a huge part of the whole experience with this game, so playing without sound is like only playing half te game!
Absolutely! @truckdriver I don’t think I’ll tire of R2-D2’s scream! Or even the “new highscore” lightsaber:) it’s a pure joy to play!
Very cool Rovio!!! They gave us sooo much! Yay ;-)
@amslimfordy I noticed after I got three stars on levels 1-1 thru 1-4 a window pops up and says, “10 Stars Achieved! New Bonus Level Unlocked!
Next Reward at 30 Stars!”
I didn’t see this mentioned above so I thought I’d post it. I see where you said you get more Bonus levels within “Bonus” levels and more at 70 stars so is this different?
@amslimfordy correction…I see where you said the stars obtained in Bonus levels also count towards earning stars for more Bonus levels….The next is earned at 30 instead of 70 as noted.
Thanks for ALL of the info you all have included! Nice work ;-)
The 30 will be a Mighty Falcon bonus, not a S-# level.
That is truely amazing considering launch time. The game was launched at 9 a.m. CET which is 3 a.m. at ETZ to 11 p.m PTZ
I actually wanted to comment on @aaronsy post.
so much fun!! might be on of ROVIO’s bests
Has anyone downloaded the free version for Android phones from Amazon yet (does not appear to be an ad-free version available)? If so, can you purchase the option to remove ads? Have you successfully been able to purchase the Path Of the Jedi? Would like to get it from Amazon, but only if it appears to work correctly.
I just download the ad-free verizon off Amazon. I hate ads going to check on Path to Jedi now.
What that collection below screen?
I can’t find game icon in Game Center. Are there any leaderbroads achievements? Nothing can be found in game description as well.
O.K I found achievements at main screen but don’t have it in GC anyway.
@amslimfordy ….There is an iOS achievement called, “lack Of Faith” for restarting a level 100 Times!!! LOL!!! ;-) I earned it on 1-5 Tee hee ;-)))
Hehe, and I at 1-20. It’s so much fun.
Yeah, I love cool achievements. I remember some funny for restarting level over and over in Where’s my Watter. That one should be hidden.
@lesleyg I don’t have the achievements since I play on Android, but I would have earned that one very quickly! Clever name that is:). (And I am not even a Star Wars fan).
@lesleyg don’t you just love achievements that point out our failures! There are a couple there I’m sure I will reach many times over, too bad we don’t keep getting the points over & over again.
What an awesome game, love the sound. Thank you Rovio!
@wanda , @karen68 – I sure hope they don’t have one that says “Give Up All Hope = 1000 Restarts” LOL ;-) That would really be embarressing!!! I’m sure I’d get that one too ;-)
@lesleyg and @karen68 I would have gotten something like that on DZ 4 ,for sure! I have never been a Star Wars fan, but I might watch the movies just so i know who all the characters are. It’s fun, even if I don’t get the background images : )
