One strategy for Danger Zone level 22 uses an icy variation of the “bloated bird” technique. Send the Ice bird so it exits the atmosphere and detonates the TNT on the extreme right, but do not trigger its ability. The large asteroids will fall into the gravitational field and destroy the main structure. (Note that triggering the ability would make the asteroids brittle.) If not fortunate enough to detonate the lower TNT via debris, use the Blue bird to do so. The score in the video below is 107,830.

DO trigger the ice bird, but do it right before it hits the TNT. i-birder of 113210. Not every time, but 1 of 10.
when I follow this strategy I get the results in these screen shots.
https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1/1779238_10203579232301323_254015627_n.jpg

I hate this level, but it has one interesting point. Every single time, no matter how I alter the 1st bird trajectory. I get the exact same results and the exact same score:
55,800.
First time playing through, I got this score 75x in a row. I could have gotten it 75x more, but by then I was so mad I went outside to scream and destroy some poor log with my Very Sharp Axe(R)(tm).
Elapse 2 months and here we are again. 55,800 ad nauseum. If I do @lesleyg ‘s trick of clipping the snowpeak, I can get 56,070 which is so welcome a change, I think she saved my sanity.
Done whining, I’ve just never seen a level that has *zero* variance in score for such a complicated sequence of destruction. It’s sure not ’cause of any skill on *my* part! :)
Now up to 600 attempts. 55,800 every time. I thought whining was supposed to help at some point? :)
OK, that’s it. Maybe it’s the scientist in me, but I have *got* to know what the odds are of making that shot. Just for kicks, I set up a test copy of this level on a virtual machine, with a macro to repeat the same shot (with a humanlike 2-3 pixel variance) every 15 seconds and stop when/if ANYTHING other than 55,800 appears. I started it last night. So far, 6.1k attempts and 6.1k 55,800 scores. I’m gonna leave it running until either a) the shot works or b) my box becomes obsolete/crashes/catches fire and post results. Only then will I know if I truly am cursed. :)
@Kelani — Hope your sanity stays intact.
A couple of observations:
* For your whine to be effective, you’ve got to put some real emotion into it. I think @Kathy may do it best. For a real top-of-lungs whine, you probably want to do it the Bloated Pig. Tues and Thurs. are “Whine” days, but if you are desperate, whining is permitted on other days as long as you hand out earplugs first.
* Not sure what kind of “virtual” machine you are using, but your profile says your real device is an iPad mini. I don’t think your finger or stylus is accurate to a pixel, and I believe the touch resolution is significantly less than the display resolution. Seems to me 6.1k is enough to prove your point. You might want to try increasing the variance to see when you start getting a different answer. I haven’t played this level for ages, so it may have changed, but I don’t remember having your problem.
@mvnla2 You got me. I’ve been totally holding back. I shall try to do better, but for my money, nobody can touch @Kathy . She’s the master! As for earplugs, we’re in luck. Due to a yappy little dog & an acoustically live bedroom, I buy them in bulk!
re: VM, My profile only allowed one device. All my games are on ipad, but Space is on PC for when a Juice-Cubes-addict relative renders my iPad MIA. And like you said, touch resolution is lacking. Once I saw those grav fields and DZ, I knew that a big screen + trackball=essential to avoiding a psychotic break.
My test setup was laptop w/VMWare and JitBit macro recorder. I was mainly just amazed at the consistent identical score, but also wanted to test how persistent flinging affected things when it’s obvious the game’s NOT gonna give it to ya. Apparently, the game is not impressed.
I do have a happy epilogue that won’t surprise any veteran flingers. A few mins ago, the vm hit 10,532 repeats of the same 55,800 score. It was running a bit slow, so I restarted Space. I then tried the first shot manually. Of course, the TNT blows! No 1-birder, or even an average score, but I still yelled YES! loud enough to make my sleeping cat do a backflip. Tried it again, BOOM & even higher score. Repeat that 5 times with a higher score each time. I’ve since done it 30x in a row (getting 71470 first bird score each time, which, coincidentally is one snowflake away from my birdday).
The only difference? In my failed attempts, the cage around the TNT never broke. Now it breaks every time. So, I guess there really is some kind of global random seed that tweaks the physics, which makes sense. The moral: if you get 55,800 on this level, for the love of God…Restart!
Now if I can just get lucky on my real box, I’ll be set. This is my last below-average level and I’m eager to put it behind me. Thanks again for the moral support. :)
@kelani lol thanks I think; ) I’ve had plenty of practice at the whining but as @mvnla2 says it’s best done at the Bloated a pig where all are welcome.. hope to see ya there sometime;)
Btw you do know Einstein’s definition of insanity? Hahaha ;;)) hee hee seriously though good luck with your experiment always interesting to see how these levels react as mvnla2 knows in her quest for self-destructing and unstable levels. .
Good luck hope to see you around;)
@kelani The moral to this story is…..he who doesn’t read the Observations of Stocktoad on page 1 is doomed to frustration and wasted effort figuring out themselves that they just need to restart! LOL the answer was right there. I would have told you, but I didn’t realize that your TNT wasn’t blowing up.
@Kelani Your whining in North Carolina can be heard at least as far as South Carolina. I haven’t played this level in forever, but I was curious to see this same score issue you seemed to be having. You’re going to hate what I say next. So if you’re having a bad day, read no further.
First, Kudos to @SwellD on some interesting observations. I found them pertinent. I shot fairly high above the snowcap at about sixty percent power. I remembered those who shoot at full power on this level are doomed. I activated in accordance with SwellD guidelines. Again, if you’re still frustrated, stop reading. Within three minutes I had the round stone go into the portal for a score of 113k. I was surprised to accomplish a one birder so quickly and fussed at myself for not thinking to take a photo of the trajectory for you. I thought my only chance to show you had passed but about five minutes later I got another one birder for 115k. This time I was ready. I quickly attempted to take a photo. But my ipad cover got in the way. By the time I got both buttons pushed all I had was an ad for Juice Fruits. Sorry Kelani, lucky at flinging, unlucky with picture taking.
BTW, I was never able to get the same score twice, let alone six thousand one hundred times.
@Rat9 @kelani — Remember that Rat has “fat” fingers, so there is no way he would be expected to get the same score twice in a row.
And don’t forget half blind as well @Mvnla2. My right eye is not so good. I just use it for perspective, not detail. Look out whippersnappers. You’ve got an old, bald, fat fingered, blind man making you look bad.
@kelani I’ve just revisited this level for some reason I’ve forgotten already and noticed your post. And yup, I’m now getting the 55,800s and can’t score anything but that. I don’t think this was happening BEFORE I read your message. I am just writing this to say I hate you and really really wish you hadn’t posted your thoughts on this.
Best wishes (in addition to the hatred), Bikkit
@bikkit I’ve never been one to refuse the scapegoat label, but in this case, I must. Esteemed flinger @Stocktoad noticed elements of the phenomenon a year ago. After my initial rant, his reply informing me of said post marked the genesis of my investigation. However, he did call me out publicly, so I’m overjoyed to throw him under the bus today.
I wanted to tell you closing/restarting Space would solve your troubles, but then I noticed you’re a fellow PC user, so that’s out. I was searching for a nicer way to say “Welcome to the HMS Screwed” when I saw your 112k score. Now I wonder how you managed that. I hope you used another device. Otherwise you’ve supported and undermined my theory in a single post. Factor in a pink-hatted confirmation, and…well, I’m not sure if I came out ahead.
That aside, thank you for your service as a data point, and for giving me the opportunity for a little payback.
Take care – Kel
Yup @kelani and @stocktoad my 112K was an old Android score. I’m only ‘here’ because I noticed I had a few Space levels unflung on the PC. So your theory is intact.
Begging a favour though – while I totally support your worthy aim to throw the Toad under a bus, can I request that you don’t use the 09:30 number 4 to Milton Keynes Bus Station as I need to get to the town centre without too much delay today.
Ack, I’ve been ambushed! :) Got a few things (yappy dog) to attend to, but I’ll post relevant replies to everyone in the proper place when I return…
PC Users: I’ve concluded the 1-birder shot (by the usual method) is probably not possible anymore. All my tests were pointless. Just watch @e-star ‘s video on page 1. Notice how she smacks the TNT dead center on the bottom. After thousands of pixel by pixel tests, I cannot replicate that.
1st-300th place scores are likely 1-birders. 9 (3%) are PC.
301st-600th place scores are likely 2-birders, 46 (15%) are PC.
I don’t know the normal platform distribution of ABN, but that sure looks like a statistically significant difference. How did those 10 people do it? No idea. Maybe an update changed something, maybe some lied, maybe a different super-secret method, or maybe I’ve just lost my mind. :) If any PC user can hit that shot, pleeeease send me a message so I can finally know? :)
@kelani and other PC users, you can play the current Android version on your PC with Bluestacks. This is a free and perfectly legal workaround. I think level 7-5 is another one where you don’t want to play the PC version… fewer maces.
Personally I mix and match my platforms.
* Mostly I use an Android phone but I can leap back and forth to previous releases of the game to revisit old glitches. I switch between versions with Titanium Backup.
* I’ve achieved a half dozen scores on the PC version.
* One score in Bluestacks.
Whatever platform/ version I’m playing, my highscores.lua file comes with me.
@burpie That’s a great idea. Did you just buy a separate android copy? I have PC and ipad vers of my games, but was trying to avoid playing Space on that tiny touchscreen. I guess after all the time I’ve invested, slogging through to this level and 7-5 is worth it if it gets me out of 500th place.
@kelani
1) Download & install Bluestack on your PC (free)
2) With Bluestacks, download the free version of AB Space from the Google
Play Store
3) Optional step: copy your highscore file to Bluestacks environment
4) Improve score!
Ok, I’m going to complain before I read the other half of the comments. First, Danger Zone has been the most miserable for obtaining Score Addict. As for this level, I have never had a 1-bird clear. IF the big boulder blows the TNT (only 30%) and IF a tiny stone survives (20% of the previous third) THEN the tiny boulder falls left, into the center pit with boulder (100% guaranteed.) I’m astounded I’ve managed 105k with two birds but that should be a 115. I really hope this episode doesn’t become a daily challenge any time soon because if I never see DZ after this it will be too soon!!!
Not a strategy, but still a helpful tips for my PC fellows… So I wanted to get above the average score, but I cant remember how I have achieved my last score after revisiting this old level.
I dont know is it just me, but after watching @e-star video, I noticed something. She just shoot the ice bird as soon she grab it, with little to none preparation for aim. So I replicated this and oh my! The boulder started to collide properly with the tnt more often, and by more often I mean 3-4 times out of 10, while previously it took hundrends of tries to get an explosion.
However no luck with one birdie, as my highscore was improved with 2 birds. Also, just to clarify I use quick shot, with 1 sec of aiming, so that means you should probably test some to get used to it. And one more thing – during my time trying that I sometimes hit the little snow mountain OR passed it just over, but the result was the same – even if the boulder hits the tnt, no 1 birdie for me! Woah I finished my tips with a rhyme :D
114k/1 BlueStacks. Rinse and repeat. I used x 30.23 y 52 for the tap spot fully zoomed out and just let the bird hit the TNT without doing anything at all. A piece of stray wood actually blew the bottom TNT! There’s really is no strat. Just luck.
It’s going up but very very slowly … yawn 😂
