Angry Birds Seasons On Finn Ice Update Now Available!

Angry Birds Seasons On Finn Ice Splash ScreenGrab your passport and skis! The Angry Birds are vacationing in their homeland of Finland. As part of the ultimate festivities, Angry Birds Seasons On Finn Ice (v4.3.1) is now available for iOS and Android via Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.

This update marks the fifth holiday-themed Advent Calendar, which is perhaps our favorite tradition here at ABN!

Participate in the ABN On Finn Ice Challenge starting each night at 7pm PST! A new level each day! Do you have what it takes to top the leaderboard?

This update includes:

  • 25 new levels, unlocked one level every day. All seasoned Seasons flingers should be familiar with this format (sixth time’s a charm)! Our walkthroughs will be live shortly after each level is release.
  • Levels are unlocked at midnight PST. This is 3am Eastern, 10pm Hawaiian, and 8am UTC.
  • There is an “in-app purchase” option to unlock all levels, which also unlocks all three Golden Eggs (see below). Despite this, we will be releasing our walkthroughs daily.
  • New Golden Eggs!
    • Two Golden Eggs hidden in-game;
    • The “Big Masonry Stove”, which will unlock after 3-starring all levels;
  • New The Pig Days levels coming soon! The next one is set to be released on December 10th, it seems.

Notes:

  • Each level of On Finn Ice unlocks at 12AM (midnight) PST (8AM UTC, 3 AM EST, 10 PM Hawaiian; go here if you need more times). On some platforms you an also purchase and unlock all levels for $0.99 (this unlocks all 25 levels).
  • On Finn Ice 3-star walkthroughs are live for ALL levels.
  • You must be connected to the internet the first time you play a level (only the first time for each level) so that it can download the level file and check the date (this prevents early access).
  • The leaderboards are also live.

By selecting door #2, a IAP message on Android appears here in Canada at $1.11 suggesting the $.99 USD option could be available…..or remember Mom saying ‘good things come to those that wait’ and let the next 20 hours tick by to continue and open door #2. Unfortunately, I cant figure out how to sneak a peak behind the advent calendar door without forking over the IAP price :)

@AMslimfordy — sorry…I didn’t realize at time of my post that I had completed the first day/door #1 before attempting to move forward. That’s when I got the IAP prompt and countdown for door #2. I didn’t just try to open door #2 right away. Seems the Nest team here figured that out after our early morning posts that started all this fun. I clearly have IAP on Android in Canada but due to currency / exchange rates it’s $1.11 not 99 cents :)

Great! I waited all the morning! Even its 5am on Mexico! Also, now there is a Rovio Cloud service, ’cause I’d been asked to download some data from the cloud for Pig Days.

Also, episodes have been rearranged, there’s now a Seasons 2010! Instead of being ordered as year, they’re orderes as RELEASED! Winter Wonderham is in 2012, and WAS in 2013, Arctic Eggspedition is now on 2013, and WAS in 2014! Making 2013 the shortest season, with just two episodes.

The On Finn Ice logo in the main screen doesn’t looks pretty to me, as in past updates, they only included the adorned ABS Logo. And there has been added some Toons Birds and an arctic piggy to the credits :O

At least for the first level the sliding across the ice is fun. Nice effects for the birds to glide on the ice. Will make for some great game play if they keep it in all the levels.

After loading the app an option did pop up to unlock all levels for $.99 for an iPad device.

By Birdfeeder

Well done Rovio – the first level has a bug! After you’ve used all your birds, the level never ends. You hear some rumbling, presumably coming from debris sliding across the ice off to the right of the screen. And nothing else happens – the rumbles continue, and no score is calculated.

I’ve played it a few times (Android) and so far only been able to get to the end of the level 50% of the time.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

There’s a button in the bottom-right corner (>>) that appears when all pigs are popped. You can push this to force the level to end and the score to tally.

I don’t get it – how is it possible to download scores from cloud if I am not signed into my Rovio Account and if I didn’t choose which scores I’d like to assign to account (e.g I play on different devices).
I downloaded this update from google play store as I always have phone with me. I wouldn’t be able to update game on my iPad until tonight. I am non-stop signed into my ABO, ABSW II and AB Epic on all devices. I tried to upload my scores from cloud to device (android phone) just for one episode and it actually did it…but where did system find those scores? Were they on my phone game data, would they be different on my iPad, will scores be sync between devices??? Anyone know?

Rank: Pig Leader with 11830 points

Whilst I like the idea of the new pig day levels and a new episode, I’m actually quite disturbed by the fact that Rovio took the decision to upload the data from 18 of my episodes (2010-2013 inc. pig days) levels/data to their cloud servers without even asking me, leaving me with zero scores and no stars in the process.

The only way around this, other than to replay all of my episodes/levels again or to revert back to a previous version of the app and to then restore my scores/episodes from a backup (meaning no update of course!), which quite frankly I wasn’t prepared to do, was to then download my data from Rovio’s cloud servers in order to restore my scores/episodes again, which for me personally, took up my entire mornings tea-break, half of my phones battery power, and no doubt, quite a lot of my monthly Internet data allowance – quite unacceptable really!

Whatmore, I’m now starting to question why Rovio chose to take it upon themselves to steal my data in this way?, for stealing is in effect what they have done here, especially when they could have just introduced the optional ‘sign in’ cloud system that they have used previously for both ABo and ABsw2…and what reason they might have had to steal my data in the first place without firstly asking my permission, or indeed, notifying players of their intentions for doing this on the ABs update page in the Google playstore? Is it that they ‘might’ have been collecting more than just ABs data from my device? In which case, isn’t that a breach of the data protection act?

@admins – your own thoughts would certainly be appreciated on his matter please?

@leggy The “cloud”, which is also used in angry birds friends, is used to send you the necessary files to play the new levels without having to update the entire game. I’m not sure anything was uploaded from your device.

Rank: Pig Leader with 11830 points
By leggy (@leggy)

Thanks for reply @sal9
I understand the need for Rovio to use cloud to update levels and even episodes, but I’m not sure that I understand your comment “I’m not sure anything was uploaded from your device”, especially when, as I previously stated, 18 of my episodes were set at zero after the update and when I had to download my data from the cloud, is that not classed as uploading?

Rank: Sling God with 26055 points
By sal9 (@sal9)

@leggy It was just a coincidence. The cloud only allows Rovio to send players new levels without having to update the entire app. That feature only works one way, and can be disabled in the settings page.

Your scores and progress are still saved locally, on your device.

Rank: Pig Leader with 11830 points
By leggy (@leggy)

@sal9
Thanks again for your response.
Yes, there is indeed the option to disable the cloud in the ABs settings page, however, by doing so, all of your downloaded episodes are deleted, and in turn they are reverted back to zero.

I’m not sure where the scores and progress are saved on my device, but fortunately I do have Helium, and I used it to back up my data ‘before’ I disabled the cloud, and again to restore my deleted episodes.

So okay, no more cloud for me, but seriously, all this for the sake of an update? what an unnecessary performance!

Does anyone know if you can transfer your data with this new Cloud feature? I have an EVO that I haven’t been able to transfer data from because the apps are out dated. Can’t use Helio and AB Backup is not available on my Galaxy Note 2. I haven’t been able to move my Seasons, Rio, Space, and SW1 data. So I play on my EVO for those. All new game releases and ABO are on my GN2 and work perfectly.

Back to my original question, I want to know if my cloud date on my EVO could be downloaded to my GN2. I am guessing no, since there is no Rovio Account login but I figured I would ask the professionals here. ;-)

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points

No @Viking, no scores are saved in the Cloud here.

Rank: Champion with 3170 points
By Viking (@viking)

Thanks for the prompt reply. I sorry if there is any confusion, I wasn’t asking if anything was save here. I meant the cloud data saved from my EVO somehow being downloaded onto my GN2. Since I haven’t registered a Rovio Account for Seasons, Rio, Space, and SW1, I figured it was a long shot.

Also, by scores, I am assuming you mean my completed levels (stars and feathers). I don’t care about my points or point totals. I just don’t want to play every level all over again. Helium (Sry, I didn’t mean Helio above) only works on my GN2 and AB backup works on my EVO. But neither of those work with each other. I haven’t rooted my phones, so I may have better luck if I rooted the EVO. Thanks again for the response.

Unable to download Pig Days Cloud info

Like a number of members, I currently (soon to change) have no access to high speed internet & despite numerous attempts, cannot get my Pig Days progress to appear. Despite the fact my internet access allows me to post this, Rovio must somehow require a faster or stronger access signal, because after hours of retrying, I have no access to Pig Days.

I know ABN & Rovio are completely separate entities, but if Rovio happens to see this, why would the fact so many people across the globe have limited access to high speed internet not have been considered for this change? A number of ABN members reported here on this site repeated problems opening Pig Days levels despite the fact so many others had access & the common thread is lack of access to high speed internet. A strong wifi signal is meaningless if the original signal being shared is slow or weak. Many people in rural areas of the USA have no or limited access to high speed internet. Despite my driving into “town” today, it took hours for the On Finn Ice to download. I didn’t realize with the download I’d lost ALL of my Pig Days levels’ progress, so here I sit at home, unable to access those levels. This change needed to be widely publicized ahead of time.

Who thought it was a good idea to cartblanc upload all past Seasons to the Cloud? I did not in any damn way authorize this. I want nothing to do with storing anything on the ‘cloud’.

Also you better read the comments from others in the App stores. Torches and pitchforks are coming from the LIVID response. This action is beyond unacceptable.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points

It’s not a huge task to re-download each, but it’s a nice way of saving space on your device. The full “Seasons” pack is nearly 200MB, while the base stuff is only about 40. Some people will very much appreciate this opportunity to not have ALL of the graphics data on their device — though all of your scores are stored locally only.

Also, in case you don’t know, we aren’t Rovio. We’re a fan site.

Finally, this setting can be disabled on the front play screen. Click the gear in the bottom-left corner for options.

“The “Big Masonry Stove”, which will unlock after 3-starring all levels”

Can someone else here confirm.. when I purchased the 0.99 to play all levels before the month is over.. this unlocked the final three star level without actually getting the three stars. I just purchased a few mins prior to this post, as I finished the second level, and unveiled the second golden egg?

When I went to check the GE levels.. the yellow “stripes” (as it were).. were not only circling the two new levels I haven’t opened yet.. it was also circling the three star level.. and when I pressed on it, it opened. First time I’ve ever seen this level open before it’s prerequisites.

13th (Tuesday)- Rubberduck Day

Rank: Boss Hog with 12515 points

@mvnla2 I bet the reason that there is big gap between Data Privacy Day and “Windmill Day” is because Rovio might be using that time to make something special, like more Angry Birds (original) worlds, Go karts, or (the most reasonable) a awesome Pig Days finale level.

plus it’s not wierd that there is such a big gap between the 2 levels, it’s just when they were made in history, and Rovio has no control over that

@habink I bet Rovio didn’t make a Finland Independence Day level is because there are some countries around the world that don’t get a free independence (unlikeUnited States and aforementioned Finland which have a free independence) that have a limited acess to many things like electricity and water and Rovio didn’t want to “rub it in” and make those countries feel sad

plus I don’t think we need the Angry Birds starting World War III

By kyrasantae

@habink @rowdypup It’s more likely because it would be (and has been) covered in the Finn Ice Advent calendar.

I live in Finland and actual paper Advent calendars people buy here for their homes at Christmas actually will typically have a flag icon inside the window for the 6th. Rovio would be following in this tradition.

What on earth are you up to Angry Bird people? It used to be so enjoyable playing your games but you now seemed to be increasingly focussed on making money at the expense of your users and it’s harder and harder to play what with making it difficult to get the games and the incessant adverts.

And rather irritating that we have to wait a day for a new level of Finn Ice
