We saw the achievements arrive in Game Center yesterday, so we knew the update was coming soon. Angry Birds Rio v1.2.2 is now available for iOS devices, PC, and Android via the Amazon AppStore and the Android Marketplace (no word on other platforms yet). Our Carnival Upheaval 3 star and papaya walkthroughs will be updated very soon with the new levels. In the meantime the Angry Birds Rio Leaderboard is ready for your scores.
Here’s what to expect in the new update:
- 15 new levels in Chapter 8 of Carnival Upheaval
- A new boss fight where you battle the head Marmoset (shown in the video below)!
- The rest of the 15 hidden papayas
- Additional achievements to unlock.
Note, as of right now there may be a bug that is preventing achievements from appearing in Game Center. It has happened to me personally. What have you seen? Chime in here.This bug was fixed in the Airfield Chase v1.3.0 update. - Pro tip: Pop those pig balloons! If you’re looking to increase your score try popping (not just releasing them) the pig balloons, as they are worth 5,000 points each!

I agree. I was really liking the one level per day… It allowed me to keep going for higher scores instead of just 3 stars. In fact, at this rate I will reach the 3.3million high score achievement before I even play the last few levels, which is nice.
Now with Rio levels out I’m going to be too undisciplined to wait until I get astronomical scores before moving tonthe next level.
Any word on the android update?
Should be soon, but no word. I would imagine the update was submitted to Amazon already. My understanding is that the “exclusivity” contract with Amazon only applied to Rio, but I could be proven wrong.

Papaya List (8 – 15).
#8 (8-2): Labeled crate in the bottom-left of the structure. Yellow Birds can blast away to get it.
#9 (8-3): Labeled crate in the far right of the level. Use as many birds as necessary to clear the way through the ice.
#10 (8-5): Labeled crate is well protected on the bottom center of the level. This is the hardest fruit to obtain to date, IMO. I have come up with two methods, which you can find on the specific walkthrough page. I have been successful with both methods, so they do indeed work.
#11 (8-9): The bush under the platform is labeled. Aim a bird at the left edge of the rubber bouncers to force the bird back to the left and into the bush.
#12 (8-11): Zoom out and the balloons in the top-right are labeled. Use a White Bird to clear out the middle balloons (and waste the Black Bird). Use the other White Bird to his the balloons. Do NOT hit the wooden weight; else the papaya floats away.
#13 (8-12): Zoom out to see an unbreakable crate is labeled. Use the Yellow Birds to hit the TNT that lies atop. You can either hit the TNT square-on, or ricochet off the higher unbreakable crate.
#14 (8-14): The labeled crate is on the far-right of the level. Use the Red Bird to take out the flag right in front of the platform. Use Blu to destroy the first floating sand-block. Finish with the Yellow Bird into the back structure, knocking the stone block onto the crate.
#15 (8-15): The labeled crate is immediately below the tall platform. The White Bird at the end of the lineup is the easiest, but other birds could reach it as well.

Thanks AMslimfordy! I was having the hardest time finding the Balloon tag on 8-11! The most difficult to get was 8-5…took forever to finally get that one.

Thanks for the hints on 8-5. I have 3 stars on all levels and 14 papayas. Now hopefully I can get the last one.
Be sure to check out the Papaya #10 Walkthrough Page. I have been successful with two different strategies, both listed there. But be aware, they are labeled “Hard” and “Harder”…
how will the boss fight be like?
Level 8-15 Boss Fight You have one of each bird and you fight a giant marmoset that hops around…you can hit him with birds, TNT and shrapnel…Keep hitting him until he loses balance or dies…about 70,000 for the 3 stars…not exactly sure.
For those who haven’t made it to the boss fight level yet, scroll up, I’ve added a screenshot of this level.
The three star target is 48,000… my girlfriend has it with that score; I had 47,000 and it wasn’t enough.

I beat all the new levels today with 3 stars and collected all of the papayas, but Game Center still shows that I haven’t achieved those achievements. Is anybody else having the same issue? Is there anything I can do or will it eventually update? Thanks in advance.

You don’t have to beat Beach Volley to access the first level of Carnival Upheaval.
I hate palm pre I still don’t have beach volley on AB rio. Palm pre people miss out on all the good stuff!!!

Have you tried rebooting or downloading again and reinstalling?

i updated rio and it I’m locked out I got three stars on the fist 15 do I have to find all the fruits before it let me continue does any one know
Maybe it is just me, but I can’t get 3 stars on level 8-1. I have 3 starred all the rest on this update, even the boss fight. Can anyone give me a hint? My high score on 8-1 is around 92000. What do you need to get for 3 stars? Thanks in advance for any help.
You can check out the Leaderboard for minimum 3-star scores. Anything with am asterisk is an approximation of the minimum, but will yield 3-stars. For 8-1, we know 96k will yield 3 stars.

The interesting question is whether the final episodes will be available to all OR just those who buy the RIO DVD. What do you think? May have to buy it even if I previously had no plans to do so. Good marketing for the movie.
I think the final levels will be available to all. These are “bonus” levels.
It might just be me but the boss fight was extremely easy – 3 stars on the first go, he seemed almost to kill himself! Maybe it’s just that on an iPhone 3GS the resolution and detail is so bad that it’s really difficult to see what you’re doing – I might have been being brilliant without noticing! I’m assuming that part of the “challenge” is the confetti drifting across the screen and the background colour palette being almost the same as the ones used for the game sprites, but because of this I found the levels a jumbled mess that were more irritating to play than enjoyable.
Hello Guys I just completed today All Episode # 8 . I did all My 3 New Achievements . Finished all 15 levels whit 3 star found out all My 8 New Papayas inclusive the 8.5 which was really hard to got it. So I clear all everything . But when I went to Game Center to check My Prices they do not appears just Only this Funny Thing….. ” ? ” why Rovio or Angry Birds . PLays Dirty Whit Me If I play just 2 Games every single day about 5 Hours The games I play are Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio….If there are a Solution let my Know . I do not want to Delete The app. then Re-Install again. I could lost My data. And I Do Not Want to lose My Achievements. Please Help Me…..???
Just be patient. It seems to be a small bug and I’m sure it will be fixed. Do not delete the app.
Is it just me not noticing or have they forgotten to put a score addict achievement for carnival?
That’s correct, but at the same time, the 3 added achievements don’t register either, so I’m sure this will be fixed.

– I was Hoping this wouldn’t come until after PicNic. I’ll hold off three-starring everything until I’ve finished PicNic. On thing at a time.

My sister has a mac computer and she does not have the update with Rio and the carnival that came out on July 14? What is she doing wrong? She can’t find Angry Birds Seasons either is it even available for the Mac?

She’s not doing anything wrong. Angry Birds Seasons isn’t out for the Mac…yet. The latest Rio update has is not out on the Mac yet either. Both should be relatively soon.

If you update via the Android Marketplace I’d expect to see it in a few days to a week. It is available on the Amazon AppStore however.
