Since it’s release on iOS devices the Mighty Eagle has been shrouded with mystery. This article and Q&A aims to clear up some of that confusion.
So, what exactly is the Mighty Eagle? Put simply, the Mighty Eagle is an in-app purchase that can help you pass a level. But that is not all. It also adds a new dimension to Angry Birds — in a way it’s a game inside the game (more on that later).
Current Availability
The Mighty Eagle is currently available on the following platforms (last updated July 2013):
- iOS: All 5 apps!
Angry Birds on December 20th, 2010, Seasons on August 22nd, 2011, Rio on October 27th, 2011, Space on March 22nd, 2012, and Star Wars on November 8th, 2012. - Android via Google Play: All 5 apps!
Angry Birds on August 8th, 2012, Seasons on March 13th, 2013, Rio on December 18th, 2012, Space on June 5th, 2012, and Star Wars on November 8th, 2012. - T-Mobile Android Devices: Angry Birds via the T-Mobile Mall on September 30th, 2011.
- NOOK Color: Angry Birds on June 30th, 2011 for free within Barnes & Noble stores via Angry Birds Magic.

- Facebook: February 13th, 2012 (with a very different cost/payment system, so refer to its main post).
- Need help getting feathers / total destruction? We have a bunch of Mighty Eagle walkthrough videos available for most of the more challenging levels. If no video exists for the level you need, you can make a request in the forum.
Important Disclaimer
Foremost, the Mighty Eagle is a separate in-app purchase for each app. In the original Angry Birds, Seasons, and Rio, a 1-time purchase will gain unlimited use, per the Q&A that appears below. In Space and Star Wars, “Mighty usage” is a consumable IAP and subject to different pricing. The Q&A below is not 100% accurate for these “consumable Mighties”, and you should refer to our Classroom Lessons for additional references and details.
Questions and Answers.
After purchasing the Mighty Eagle you can to use it to pass a level once per hour, or, if you’ve already passed a level you can use it as often as you like. Using it will not yield any stars or points, but rather it calculates a percentage of destruction, with 100% destruction being Total Destruction. When you do receive Total Destruction on a given level you will receive a feather. Ultimately your goal is to obtain a feather on every single level of the game. On some levels this is NOT an easy task. Fortunately we have some video walkthroughs available for the most challenging levels.
Okay, so how does it work from within the game? After you purchase the Mighty Eagle you have to activate it from within a particular level. This is simply done by tapping the eagle eye icon that appears next to the pause button on every level. It’s important to note that you can then use it in conjunction with your other birds (actually, on many levels you can’t receive Total Destruction without using them together).
After you activate the Mighty Eagle your slingshot is loaded with a can of sardines. You then hurl the can towards the piggies mocking you on the other side. After which, you wait a couple seconds…then…BLAMOH! T he Mighty Eagle drops out of the sky and smashes everything. At that point your destruction is calculated based on the damage sustained. How much destruction really depends on how strategically you place you can of sardines, use of your other birds, and on some levels bit of luck. After you’ve used the Mighty Eagle the level selection icons display an eagle graphic to signify he’s been used.
That’s pretty much it. We’ll use the Q & A section below to answers some of the more common questions we receive. A big thanks to Rovio for chiming in on some of them.
- Q. What devices currently support the Mighty Eagle?
- A. Right now the Mighty Eagle is only available to purchase on iOS devices (ipad, iPhone, and iPod Touch). NOOK Color owners can access the Mighty Eagle from with Barnes & Noble, but there currently is no option to purchase. Rovio has stated many times that expects the Mighty Eagle will eventually land on most devices and come to different versions of the game (like Angry Birds Seasons).
Update: This list has since been expanded. See the full list above. - Q. I am having a hard time passing a level. Do you have Mighty Eagle walkthroughs available?
- A. Yes, we have many video walkthroughs for some of the most challenging levels.
- Q. Will this yield 3 stars every time?
- A. Per Rovio, “Using the Eagle doesn’t give you any stars, but the scoring goes into the Eagle mode. The destruction is calculated in percentages, and getting a 100% Total Destruction awards you with an eagle feather for that level. This gives you a reason to revisit all the old levels again, even if you’ve got three stars on all of them. So, when skipping a level with the Eagle, you still have to come back and earn the three stars in the regular fashion.”
- Q. How will affect leaderboards? It seems kind of unfair to rank these people higher than those who passed the level without the Mighty Eagle.
- A. Per Rovio via Tweet, “No effect on leaderboards”. Per Rovio, via comments below, “The Mighty Eagle can be used with the regular set of birds, and this might be required to maximize your Eagle score in some levels (or, first destroy some difficult-to-reach blocks with the regular birds before launching the final blast with the Eagle.”
- Q. Does this incentive Rovio to make the upcoming levels harder, if not almost impossible?
- A. No. This question was asked before the Mighty Eagle was really understood. Since it’s not supported on all devices this just wouldn’t make since. Also, as we’ve shown above, the Mighty Eagle is like a game within the game, so there is no affect on the normal game play.
- Q. How much will it cost?
- A. “The price point is $0.99/£0.59/€0.79” per app.
- Q. What do you get when you purchase the Mighty Eagle?
- A. The Mighty Eagle comes with two features:
1. It allows you to skip a level in the event you’re stuck and just want to move on.
2. It’s basically a new “mini-game” where your goal is to obtain feathers by receiving Total Destruction. - Q. Is it a single use item or do you only have to purchase it once?
- A. You only have to purchase it ONCE per app. Per Rovio, “The Eagle is NOT one use only, but it ‘recharges’ for a time before it can be used to skip a level again. However, the Eagle can be used repeatedly in any level you’ve already managed to unlock.”

I hate the Eagle icon! It is visually in the way when I want to throw a bird straight up in the air and try to time when to tap the screen. Whoever had the idea to add this wasn’t thinking clearly. Please offer a way to delete this, it’s very frustrating….
You do not have to tap a bird to trigger its ability. You can tap anywhere on the screen. Ergo, the Eagle Eye does not disrupt gameplay.
You should read my comment again. I know you can tap anywhere. My point is that it visually interferes and makes it difficult to see when is the perfect time to tap.
Not sure what to tell you. I’ve never had any issues with it.
This totally depends on the type of device you’re playing on. I mostly play on my iPhone, and from time to time the ME icon can get in the way.. It’s not something I lose sleep over, but the option to disable it might not be a bad idea. On the iPad I have had no issues. On a similar note, in ABF I have accidentally clicked the ME icon twice now, costing me two uses. That is a bit frustrating. IMO, the ME needs to be unlimited use once purchased.
how to get the mighty eagle on psp
This post lists all devices that have the Mighty Eagle. PSP is not on that list, nor do I expect it to land there any time soon. It’s not a major platform.
1. Please use the reply button to keep threads intact.
2. The eagle icon doesn’t take up THAT much space.
I kind of see what you’re talking about. For me in chrome, wherever my mouse is after I release a bird, I click in that spot. In ABO 3-2, I pull the bird towards the eagle eye, then I release it. When I click, my mouse is over the eagle eye so it messes me up.
You can zoom out and see everything in case u didn’t know…
lol,thank you someone with sense…
Is there any Valentines games this year?
No valentines themed levels, but there was the release of Angry Birds on Facebook :)
Well can you download the eagle for a kindle/kindlefire?
Not available for Kindle at this time.
Does anyone know when the Mighty Eagle will be available for other android devices?
No, there is no timeline for that.
{..post deleted ..}
Please don’t post this kind of illegal/illegitimate bypasses.
I have achieved total destruction on all levels of Seasons. I never purchased the Mighty Eagle and have zero feathers. Since I am out of levels would the idea be to buy the Might Eagle and get additional levels?
Buying the Mighty Eagle does not open new levels, but rather opens a minigame within each of the existing levels.
I have a question. If I buy the mighty eagle for the original angry birds, do I have it for every level or do I have to buy it for every level?
The Mighty Eagle in ABo/Seasons/Rio need only be purchased once per app.
We will be rewriting some of this in light of the Space release, but are a but tired at the moment :)
Thanks! I’m definitely gonna buy the mighty eagle now for all the versions of angry birds
If I get the mighty eagle on my iPhone in Abo will I get it on my iPad that also has Abo (not the HD version) if I have iCloud?
Um, not via iCloud, but you can “repurchase” for free so long as you
1) use the same Apple ID
2) are using the same non-HD app.
Thank You!
I’m sure its been asked….just need to clarify. I purchased Mighty Eagle for AB RIO HD with my AppleID. The app was deleted inadvertently. Can I re-download Mighty Eagle for AB RIO HD for free, or does it count as another purchase?
Thanks.
Yes you can.
In the Angry Bird Space Cold Cuts how can I aim the lazer to shoot in the direction I want? It always shoots at the opposite way when I tap on it.
Tks
Tap where you want it to go.
Does anyone have a video or strategy for the Mighty Eagle on level 1-13 of the original AB? This one is tough for me.
1st bird as in the 3-star video, then place the sardine can in that gap.
Thanks Slim – that was fast!
lol – just like clockwork – i ask for help and get it five minutes later. :)
I have googled how to download the mighty space eagle and get nothing. Please tell me how to download it … my 6 yr old won’t leave me alone!!! ;)
I have a samsung phone that he plays it on…
Guide to Understanding & Using the Space Eagle in Angry Birds Space
Is the mighty bird available for the PC. If not will it be at some time.
The post above lists the platforms with the Mighty Eagle. We are not sure of Rovio’s plan, but we think they aim to bring the Mighty Eagle to all major platforms.
I don’t think that models of the ME are for fun in the data\images\pc folder. Also the buttons for him.
Thanks a lot!Now I’m going to buy the mighty eagle
Can I get 3 stars in each level to get Mighty Eagle?
Per the post:
He means that he could go to get 3 stars on all levels to get the Mighty Eagle.
Still no. It is a purchase, as also explained in the posts
Hello. I purchused the Mighty Eagle on Angry Birds for iPod, if iIwas to get it for Angry Birds HD for iPad, would I have to pay again? Anyone know from experience? Thanks.
Yes, you will need to purchase ME again.
The iPhone, iTouch (sd version) and iPad (HD version) are two separate apps.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S and saw the prompt to purchase the mighty eagle so I did it. I haven’t been able to use it though since purchasing it. When I tap the icon for the mighty eagle it pops up as if I haven’t purchased it. I just wondered if it was something I was doing wrong or if my phone doesn’t support it. If anyone could shed a little light I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Some players have reported the same problem.
I’m honestly not sure what process was used to finally activate ME.
But your phone should be compatible, it’s just a matter for the game to recognize the transaction.
Im apparently having a pretty common problem but Ive yet to find a solution. I purchased the mighty eagle through Android pressing the ME icon. After restarting game, when I press the icon it acts as if I never paid. It once again sends me to website where it says that Ive already purchased ME and its pending. Its been saying this going on 2 days now. Suggestions?
You should contact Rovio and/or your service provider. There isn’t much we can do about a “pending transaction” that spans a few days.
I have had this game for a while, and the only levels I LOVED were the Halloween ones, until the update that happened on 8/16/12. After that I was able to use the Mighty Eagle without having to buy it. I was first wondering if anyone else had this happen to them?
And second if this was not supposed to happen will the Mighty Eagle go away suddenly one day?
We don’t think it was intentional, but it has been reported.
I’m playing Angry Birds on Facebook and I’m confused on the Eagle in a simple way. It seems that some levels you need to destroy everything, while other levels you can leave things behind. I read somewhere else that the Eagle must destroy everything that counts as points but everything counts for something. For example, the one mighty eagle would not give me 100% until I hit even the smallest shovel in the sand. However, I just got 100% on a level with a board leftover (and I think something else was still there too). I just want to know the details so I’m not wasting eagles.
What you read is false.
Blocks and items are given a “virtual value” only known by Rovio.
On small levels with few blocks, it is very likely that you need to destroy everything.
On larger, more complex levels, you need to figure out which ones need to be destroyed.
HELP! I am not tech savvy and I can’t figure out why I can’t use the eagle. I bought it and now when i tap the icon it gives me the same “Stuck on a tricky level…
…bring on the Mighty Eagle.”
If I hit the cart it does show that I purchased it so what now?
You should try restarting your device, and otherwise contacting either Apple or Google (depending on what device you are playing on).
I just want t clarify since ive seen conflicting comments…
If i stick to m iPhone for angry birds (not switching devices) and i buy Mighty Eagle in Angry Birds Seasons… Do i need to pay again in Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Original… All on the same iPhone though…
Because I want mighty eagle in all versions of the game, and am willing to pay $0.99 for it, but not willing to pay $0.99 for 4 different versions (original, seasons, rio, amd space) thats $4.00 on an add on to an already purchased app…
I don’t think there’s anything conflicting here.
These are four completely separate games. There is absolutely no way that a purchase in one can be reflected in another. In fact, it’s contrary to Apples TOS.
One thingI don’t understand about ME.
I have 3 starred all levels in all episodes without using powerups or the ME.
On the episode selection page this is reflected on each episode selection icon. There is what I assume to be the total number of points earned per episode listed under SCORE and under that the number of completed 3 star levels.
Under that there is the number of feathers earned (I assume) and in all my episode icons the indication is that I have no feathers out of a certain number of levels (e.g. 0/45 in Mine And Dine).
My question is: What does the denominator number stand for?
Can I only use the ME in 45 levels (again, referencing Mine And Dine)?
If so, how does one determine which levels to use it on?
Does one just randomly select levels to use the ME in? I’m not actively seeking to be involved in high score competition if that matters at all.
Thanks for your time to answer this question
The denominator is how many levels are in the episode (in this case, Mine and Dine has 45 levels on 3 pages). You can pick any level that is passed or unlocked to use the mighty eagle. To use it simply click on the eye icon on the top left part of the screen. If you receive 100% total destruction, you get a feather for the level and the total is added by 1 (so if you have no feathers and it says 0/45, and you get a feather, it will become 1/45). Beat all the levels with total destruction and the total will be 45/45. Let me know if this isn’t what you are looking for.
Thank you. Until I read your explanation, I couldn’t reconcile the difference between the apparent discrepancy of the ‘denominator’ and the total number of levels in the episode.
Now I understand that the ‘denominator’ is the number of levels on each page of the episode.
Apparently Rovio, in it’s brilliance, has determined that there are only 45 levels in Mine and Dine that you can achieve total destruction.
I may have a strange question. I have a Nook Color and recently, when Seasons updated with the golden three star balls for 2013 I received the Mighty Eagle as well. All my levels were three starred besides the Intel egg level. My cousin also has a Nook Color and all the levels were completed including Intel egg, but she didn’t receive the ME. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks.
To our knowledge, the Mighty Eagle is not available for NOOK since it requires in-app purchasing. You should, however, contact Rovio for more details about this.
Thanks, I may try that.
I contacted Rovio and just received a response. They haven’t purposely released the ME on Nook, but that it was a lucky glitch that I received it on mine.
Hahaha, well good for you!!!
I have ME on my Kindle Fire. Have had it for a long time.
Is there a Walkthrough for AB Seasons All Stars
Ham Dunk Mighty Eagle Level 4-12 ? Seems to be impossible. Have gotten 100% on all except this one with no walkthroughs.
How do i know when the game is fully completed got 3 stars in all levels, all eagle feathers earned and golden eggs completed or is that it n it be time to move on to the next 1
Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Taking the time and actual effort to generate a top notch
article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and don’t seem to get anything done.
