Two days after the PC launch of Angry Birds Seasons Rovio posted a great video on YouTube to announce its latest milestone: 500 million downloads worldwide! You can watch the video below.
Let’s run through some of the statistics listed in the video.
500 million downloads
That’s just mind-boggling. But to give it some perspective, roughly 1 out of every 14 people on the planet have downloaded an Angry Birds app.
Angry Birds is the #1 app in 79 countries
Again, by perspective, Apple’s AppStore is openly available in 102 countries, that I can find. Angry Birds is the #1 app in over 77% of “Apple-applicable” countries
Users have played 266 billion levels
On average, each person on Earth has played 38 levels, which is more than Chapter 1 of Poached Eggs.
Users have flung 400 billion birds
By comparison, bird experts (as in ornithologists, not manu malin) estimate the aviary population of the world to be around 100 billion birds.
Users have collected 44 billion stars
There are roughly 200 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, so for every 4 or 5 stars in the Galaxy, a user has earned a star in Angry Birds.
Users log about 300 million minutes of gametime daily
That’s over 570 years of gameplay each day. By comparison, the Blarney Stone was set into the Blarney Castle (Country Cork, Ireland) in 1446 — 565 years ago.
Users have logged 200,000 years of gameplay on Angry Birds
By comparison, the earliest Homo sapiens that are known originated in east Africa at most 200,000 years ago.

I still remember the days when almost nobody knew about Angry Birds and I used to feel special. Now, 1/14 people in the world(at least on planet earth) have it. Amazing.

I started playing angry birds when Ham em high came out. I remember those good ol’ days…
You know, Ham’ em High wasn’t the “good ol’ days.” That was a month ago. Mighty Hoax is the good ol’ days… I was the 4th reviewer of AB on the iTunes App Store.

What Next?
What I’d like to see: a multiplayer version of Angry Birds, and a PC/Mac based level designer.
I’m with ya on the multi player version, I’m not quite sure how they would do it yet, but I’m sure they could figure out something. One thought of mine would be something like two players attacking a structure from different sides and the most destruction/points wins. Or maybe two people showing the same level, (the other players progress is ghosted) and you play 5 levels with no resets aloud. You screw up and you have to live with it. Most points after 5 levels wins. I don’t know, those are just two ideas I had.
Dude, that is an awesome idea. I used to be a big minesweeper player and then they came out with an online multiplayer version and it was a ton of fun. :)

I can see Angry Birds in Outerspace. Each segment would be a differnt planet or area of the solor systems? Regarless of what is next I will play forever! I just finished all levels, of all games on my andriod and switched to an Iphone….guess I have to start all over again. LOLOLOL
I would like to see it turn based like Civilization V. Maybe the players take one turn as the birds and one turn as the Pigs. And which ever one is left standing wins. And they’d have to find some way to make it cross platform. I think the Flash 5 version would be the closest thing they could have toward achieving that.
Wow, those statistics are rather amazing – I knew AB was popular, but this is just phenomenal!
However rovio still has mire suprises in the wings. We’ll expect big #s soon that are bigger than these.

Congrats to Rovio. I started playing Angry Birds last year, two weeks after I got my first phone. I didn’t know that Angry Birds existed until I saw my friends playing Angry Birds in homeroom. After that, I got addicted to it. I’m on the Android, where I can’t zoom in/out and I don’t have the ME, and I managed to beat every level. I’m still working on getting 3 stars. Thanks to all the admins on this site who update it on a regular basis. Can’t wait for future updates from Rovio!!
Can’t zoom in/out? I’ve played on Android before and zooming in and out works perfectly fine.
I have a Sanyo Zio from Sprint, which doesn’t have the zoom in/out feature. That is the only disadvantage I have while playing Angry Birds. This site helps me visualize where Golden Eggs, Mooncakes, and Fruits.
To correct the Homo sapien part of the article. The earliest Homo sapiens that are known are from over 3 million years ago, not 200,000 years ago.
