  • @rat and all my US friends. About fresh and frozen. I think it's much the same here. We can certainly buy fresh meat, fish, veg. Whatever. We have farmer's markets. You can also buy frozen, pre-cooked rubbish. Or go to MacDonalds. It's up to the individual.
I have a very large fridge, a small freezer, and tend to shop every other day. I also have the terribly British habit of buying a roast on Sunday that does Monday and Tuesday dinners as well. A ham joint for Sunday, pea and ham risotto for Monday, Ham hash Tuesday. Then fish or veggie the rest of the week. And I NEVER go to MacDonalds. Yuck. Burger chains here are awful. A couple of times a years I mince (grind?) some rump (I'm not sure if that translates to US English) and make a proper burger. The kind I ate in America.

As for Guy Fawkes masks. What ever the mask, they are just "rent a mob"
I'm not doing politics here, but any person who really believes in a cause does not cover their face. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, the Student in Tiananmen Square. Enough said.

    @kathy Ah, dresses.... Clothes.... Shoes.....
Tomorrow we sail. I can't wait to dress up. I too was a teenager in the seventies, love the music the clothes, the teenage years that are the best of your life :-)))))

    @tompuss loved the Monet

And @Sweetp happy birthday, have a really good one

I may lurk a little for the next two weeks, depending on the cost of Internet connection, if not see you all soon xx
  • @princesspagechanger I've done two in a row. You better buck up ;-)
  • Lol @hunnybunny I keep forgetting that you live across the pond:/ I'm sure styles were very different than U.S.
Have a wonderful trip and safe sailing!
  • @hunnybunny I hope you have a wonderful trip & have some great cruising weather! :)
@kathy are you affected by the weather at all? I hear there's a nasty storm messing up Thanksgiving travel in the US northeast.
  • Hey @karen68 ;) yep the weather here is awful..nor ' easter but no snow yet just messy mix of sleet and rain. . And cooollld:(
  • @Hunnybunny -- Have a marvelous cruise. Be sure to get in your 20 laps of the ship each day so you don't lose the waist you just found. There's nothing worse for the waistline than food on cruises.
I think people in the U.S. would say you grind beef (in a meat grinder) for hamburger, but I think most people buy it pre-ground. Mincing sounds more like dicing with a knife, but maybe that would taste better. Not sure McDonald's is any worse in the U.K. than in the U.S. I reserve it for quick stops on long trips.
@Kathy -- I'm sure you've got plenty of snow there. I wonder if @kelani even got some; it usually leaves him out.
We, on the other hand, are having unseasonably hot weather. Thanksgiving is predicted to be a good beach day, as long as you don't go in the water without a wetsuit. I imagine lots of people will be grilling their turkey or at least eating outside.
  • @Kathy -- I guess you don't have that much snow, but sleet, rain, and cold sounds a lot worse than snow.
  • yep @mvnla2 no snow but your right the sleet/rain cold is worse! just damp and miserable , crappie to drive, i had to just run to the store is hard to see with the glare on the road and getting slippery:( now I'm in for the night and all day tomorrow if i have my way lol..Jammie day:)
  • Enjoy playing dress-up on the cruise Mrs. Bunny.
@Hunnybunny I still vividly remember the shock on my new brides face in 1977 when she first saw the kitchen and refrigerator in her new home(?) in England. Southern women love and live in their kitchens. It's the central hub of a Southern home, a gathering spot. They're huge. Even in an old home. Heck, especially in an older home. But her kitchen in England was so small she could stand in one spot and rotate to access everything. And only one person in the kitchen at a time. Does anyone remember Mrs. Bucket' from the British sitcom "Keeping up appearances"? We lived in her sister's house. lol It really was the typical floor plan for a poor *said lovingly* British house at the time. Two story and tiny. Btw, just how many cubic feet or meters is your VERY LARGE fridge? Large there and here are possibly using two different scales. We have refrigerators built into the walls here. Shoot, they are the walls in some homes. And a typical Southern women has more than one refrigerator. SWDNF has one in the kitchen, one in the garage, and a large freezer as well. ha ha ha And we don't waste space making ice in our fridges. We have a separate ice maker for that task. Her mother, sister, and sister-in-law all have the same set-up. So please forgive me if I snicker just a bit when you say you have a large British fridge. *snicker* And I'm not being snobbish. Rich or poor, all true Southern women aspire to at least three or large built-ins. One more thing. I still remember my first hamburger at a carnival in Cambridge. It had a slab of ham between two pieces of bread. And don't get me started on iced tea. ha ha ha ha ha
  • @Mvnla2 You'll probably laugh, but when we travel, our favorite place quite often is a farmers/food market. You get a real feel for a foreign city/country. Plus the people love to talk to you about how they brought their product to market. It's a much better way to meet the locals as opposed to jumping from one museum or church to the next tourist trap.
  • Oh My ! @ Kelani i just got logged out , probably cuz i cleared cache but i found an issue. .i could not find a way to log in until i came here! on the walkthrough pages the ads take All the Space when your in 'uncaged' mode so you cant see the right side of the top where you name usually is or in this case here in the forum the option to sign in. how are new folks supposed to even know there is an option to sign in if they just come looking for help and land on a walkthrough page? just letting you know maybe pass it up;)
  • A jammy day sounds like a wonderful plan @Ma. It's just me and the wife tomorrow so I don't care if she doesn't. I hope you pull it off.
  • ;) Thanks Pa i think I'll be able. i still gotta cook but meh' I can cook in Jammies;)
one flaw maybe i just had a stroke of guilt and texted my crazy sis and invited her over :/ no answer yet. .
  • HAPPY THANSKGIVING to all the flingers. And don't forget to wear a belt with an extra hole or stretchy pants tomorrow.
  • And to you also @rat9 Have a great Day tomorrow Pa:)
  • @hunnybunny Have a wonderful holiday!
(I make my own burgers too!)

    Happy Thanksgiving to @all !
Edit: just realized that one of the Monet pix on Flickr link is of turkeys!
  • @Rat -- Visiting farmers' markets when you travel sounds like a great idea. But do they usually speak English? I'm not great in any foreign language, and HWDNL only knows French.
@all-- Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
  • Hi everyone, just want to say An early Happy Thanksgiving @all.
    And Good Night @all :)
  • @Mvnla2 I'm constantly amazed at how many people speak enough English to communicate. It makes me feel lazy and stupid. But the foods speak for themselves. I particularly loved the food markets in Barcelona and Florence.

    Hi and good night @AEX10
You do it all @TomPuss. A true renaissance woman. And it's hard not to like someone who loves Space.
  • and to you @AEX10 Happy Thanksgiving Sweet Dreams:)
  • Night Pa
  • @rat9 Honored by the compliment. . you just made my day -:)
  • Night Ma
  • Happy Thanksgiving to all American Nesters. Hope you are enjoying this day with your families.
My sister still remembers Thanksgiving day that she spent as a guest of an American family in Dayton OH, fourteen years ago. She was a performer at concert in honour of 5 years of Dayton Peace Agreement that ended war in our contry and she and other young performers were hosted by American families. Although our family isn't religious and none of us practice faith in God my sister was really pleased and impressed when a girl who was her host read lines from Quran that are probably suitable as pray before Thanksgiving dinner, thanking God for all his givings and so on... That was really nice from them, they showed how they care and how thoughtful they are.
  • @hunnybunny I love everything in that closet, especially that litlle bag. Cool stuff, really.
@kathy I am surprised. Although I know you posted in "senior's" thread I thought you were much younger and that you are in your thrties. What made me think that is one photo I saw long before showing a young woman in red gown with Red (bird) on the sleeve. I thought that was you and that pic was taken on some ABN celebration and as far as I remember it was in @mvnla2 album. Angryboy was on that pic too.
  • A very Happy Thanksgiving to all my American flinging friends! :)

And @SweetP Happy Birthday!! I hope you don't have to spend the whole day slaving away in the kitchen. Enjoy your day with your family :)
  • Hello guys, have a nice thursday evening. It's a long time since was here - missed you all. Reason for my absence was a terrible pressure and stress at work. Lots of work, even during the weekend. Since last friday this has stopped, so I had finally time to fling and for chatting. We went for a short holiday to Germany. What you think? Internet speed with 2G. That is not much I can tell you. Uploading a new score for the challenge took about 2 minutes. Not to mention to open walkthroughs. The nest is a nice site when you got many broadband for your connection. If this isn't the case it is a cruel. All these pictures.
Anyway, enough whining, let's fling. I can't read to all the past comments. Were their any issues that I have to know?
OB, come on, drinks for everyone
  • Good Morning @all, Happy Thanksgiving!
    Hope everyone has great Day!
  • And Happy Birdday to @SweetP!
  • Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Thanks for the wishes @cosmo2503 nice to see you here . I don't know what picture you may have seen, but no wasn't me, there would be no such photo of me at an ABN celebration, @mvnla2 do you know what pic that is?
  • Nice to see you also @bernersenn :) and sorry to hear about you stress at work. Happy you have some time to Fling and pop in. Watching the national Dog Show there was a very handsome bernersenn and i was disappointed when he took 3rd place he should have taken 1st:!
Hi @AEX10 and ty for the good wishes Hope you have a wonderful day also.
And also @karen68 ty Have a great day.
  • Oohhh and Happy Birthday @sweetp ♡♡
  • @kathy thanks for the sweet words, I'm happy to be back, about the Bernese: not everyone is as much charmed from this dog as we do. It'll be that way.
Now we come to the section gratulations and best wishes:
Happy thanksgiving to my American friends, enjoy the day and of course enjoy the turkey.
A very happy birthday goes to @sweetp - do may enjoy two celbrations at once. That's nice.
Btw, question: why do the Canadians celebrate their thanksgiving on another day as the Americans do?
  • @bernersenn idk why is different for Canada @karen68 ?
  • @kathy, @bernersenn from what I remember, our Thanksgiving is for giving thanks for a good harvest... isn't the US about the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock?
Ours is always the 2nd Monday in October.
I could be wrong, I'm trying to remember what I learned in school, which was a loooong time ago.
Of course Kelgoogle may prove me wrong lol :D
  • @karen68 ok, that would explain the difference. As you perhaps know we dutch aren't spoiled that much with holidays. Compared to the surrounded countries, UK, Belgium and Germany we don't celebrate that much. That is no complaining, just facts.
  • @karen68 i thought the U.s celebrated the harvest as well and making peace with the Indian lol
Columbus day is for landing on Plymouth rock. .lol where @keloogle when we need him hee hee
  • @kathy so that's Columbus Day... well that just shows you how rusty my knowledge of US history is lol.
Maybe we harvest earlier since most of Canada is further north? I should just google this myself instead of guessing. And I call myself Canadian! :D
Are you still in your jammies?
  • I am still in my jammies lol:) just put my 'shh' *quietly says turkey* in the oven ;)
  • @cosmo2503 @kathy -- Had to dig through the archives. But here is the pic of the dress Kathy wore to the AB prom where she was crowned Princess Pagechanger. She was escorted by @Angryboy. The woman in the photo is Peter Vesterbacka's wife (with him at her side). Read the comments below the pic for more info.
    http://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/mvnla2/album/picture/808/
For a long time I too thought Kathy was a lot younger than she is, because one of her early avatars was a photo either taken when she was barely 20, or which makes her look barely 20.
Similar to Cosmo's facebook pic, which looks like a 20 something year old.
  • Lol Thanks @mvnla2 ! @cosmo2503 no that isn't me, @mvnla2 the avatar i first had was only taken 4 years ago if you mean the one that i am in the garden or hmm I'll have to check but any pic I used for avatar was taken after i joined abn.
  • Ooh and sorry Happy thanksgiving @mvnla2 :) what time do you go for dinner?
  • Brb gotta swish the laundry
  • Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends!
  • @Kathy -- We're eating at 4pm PST. Just ate a little lunch.
@Karen68 -- Just did some reading on Canadian and U.S. Thanksgiving. It appears that both started out as basically thanksgiving for a good Fall harvest. It seems that the exact date for either is pretty arbitrary, and at least in the U.S., changed all over the place.
So the difference could well be the difference in climate, or maybe the fact that Canada didn't play political football with the date as much as the U.S. did.
There doesn't seem to be any reason why they should be the same day.
  • Thanks @Mumsie :) hope you have a good day also:)
Hope you enjoy your dinner @mvnla2 We aren't eating till about 5:30 -6 . I'm not eating anything till then lol want to save my appetite:)
  • @Kathy -- You're the last person in the world who should be skipping meals in anticipation of Thanksgiving! There was a piece on the news the other day saying that many Americans consumed 1/3 the calories they ate on Thanksgiving in the kitchen while preparing the meal!
  • @Mumsie -- Can you still play golf, or do the courses shut down for the winter? Someone who lives in the northern U.S. actually asked me if the courses in LA had shut down for the winter yet! Winter is high season in some parts of S. CA!
Hope you have a good day.
  • No time (or energy) to read up, but I wanted to wish all my "on the other side of the pond" friends a HAPPY Thanksgiving!! Hope you all are enjoying a marvelous day with lots of family and love all around!
