AngryBirdsNest is always trying to evolve and improve its service to you. Over the past few months, we have overhauled the coding of our leaderboards to make them faster, added functionality to the Activity and Profile portions of the site, and a lot more stuff that mostly goes unseen. Today’s announcement is something we’ve been working on for sometime and is quite unique to our community. Thankfully it’s now ready for use!
So what is it?
In a nutshell, it’s a custom notifications system that, in many ways, works much like the existing notifications you already receive (e.g. private messages, “@ mentions”, replies, friend requests, etc.). The difference here is that this one is under our control, so we can build in notifications where it was previously impossible (more on this below).
One example of this is you can now chose to be notified when an Angry Birds, Bad Piggies, or Amazing Alex update (or any game we eventually cover) lands on the primary platform you’ve set in your profile. Notifications are sent via email and will appear on site, just like existing notifications. This is an opt-in service only, so you won’t receive them if you don’t want them. While we think this feature is useful for all, it’s especially useful for those users who don’t have update notifications pushed to their device automatically.
Opt-in in Two Simple Steps
- Step 1: Select “Notifications” from the drop-down menu that descends from your username in the top-right corner of the site.
- Step 2: Once in the notification section of your profile scroll to the bottom. Then, under “Custom Notifications” and tick “Yes”. (See the image below.)
So just to stress a few things:
- You must have a Primary Platform set in your profile. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing what platform updates you want to be notified about. Do to this simply choose “Edit Profile” from the username drop-down menu, then “Gamer Info”. (Facebook users, take note that your platform should be “Facebook” and not PC, Mac, or Chrome.)
- You must opt-in to receive the notifications. If you don’t want them, that’s OK, we understand. * sniff sniff *
- If an update lands for your device (for example, iPhone) and you have both options set properly, you will be notified on-site and by email that the update has landed. You can then head here to read our post about the update, if applicable.
What’s Next?
With the launch of this system comes the potential to expand it. The following examples are hypothetical but, if we add them, rest assured that they will also be opt-in only.
- Notifications for a secondary (tertiary?) platforms.
- Maybe more filtering options, such as excluding games you don’t play.
- Notifications when you receive a badge.
- Notifications if someone beats your Top Score! This one has been requested for a while and, not only do we think it would be useful, but it could also help cut down on vandals. (Related but unrelated: Maybe a list or counter of your Top Scores?)
- Something related to the Challenge? Still pondering this…
- What else might you like to see? Let us know!
We would love to hear your thoughts. Of course, with any new system, there may be bugs. Since updates are periodic, they can be very difficult to notice and reproduce. But let us know if you notice anything buggy.
Thanks AngryBirdsNest for this new service, you are the best
Nice new feature,I like it :D
Just one more reason that this is my favorite website. Thanks for all the hard work guys :)
I check this site every single day but I love the new notification alert!
Thank you ABN staff for making this site the best. You-all make it easy to navigate and find information that keeps us informed and makes better players out of your members. This notification update is just another one of those outstanding aspects that exemplifies the high quality of this Angry Birds web site.
Excellent addition. I don’t visit as often as I used to so it will be appreciated. Thanks :)
This is such a great idea! You guys rock:-).
Thank you for all of your hard work.
Thanks! This is great! But I am using PC and android and I would like notifications for android and PC.
@bad-piggies-2 We already mentioned this in the post.
@AMslimfordy Where?
@AMslimfordy – Could it at some point be possible to have separate leaderboards for different platforms under one account? :)
I created another account so I could keep my tablet scores separated from PC scores ’cause PC is still my “main device”. I added some scores, but then I got a bit bored with it, ’cause when I was logged into to my tablet account I couldn’t see if there were any notifications, ’cause I only use this account when I’m posting comments etc. (don’t want to confuse people by posting from two accounts).
It would be so much easier when you could access the leaderboards with only one username and password and there wouldn’t be any need to sign in, sign out, sign in, sign out -circus :)
Sorry for the off-topic :)
@Lisko we have considered this before. We think it would be a good system, but there would be some hurdles to overcome. Rest assured we are considering it though.
@AMslimfordy – Okay, nice to know that it could be possible at some point :) Thanks for the answer :D
You are becoming more exceptional with the new features you introduce, ABN. Now its even more easy to know when an update is released for my primary platform. Thankyou.
Thanks for making this guys :-D
This is great, and so useful! Sometimes I worry that I’ve missed an update, so this will be really helpful. And your ideas for expanding the system all sound really interesting.
Thanks so much for all your hard work, and for constantly making Angry Birds Nest even better.
Oops, forgot to mention that the explanation of this new feature and instructions for how to use it are exceptionally clear — well done! You guys are brilliant at all the tiny details that add up to a great site. Thanks.
Thanks ABN! As soon as I read this, I immediately updated my notifications.
Now I can get a notification for each pc update landed :D
There isn’t an option of the Amazon Appstore. Wheres it at?
That’s Android, @habink
If that, Amazon usually later that GP.
But we list both in our updates log.
Exceptional work guys! Capital idea as always. I like tease of the daily challenge too! It’d be grand if the system could notify of the level 5hough I’m sure that it might be a beast to do.
Y’all are just the best!
Wow! Thanks guy for that update. Now I don’t have to constantly look at my app updates.
Great Thing !!

Just for fun or update planning??
Today is Earth Day. I don’t believe this is representative of any planned update.
Ok thank for your answer, but circus day was sunday? and was not planned (as circus).
And to extend @josm, they actually posted that same image last year on google+! But nice find nonetheless.
Ahh yes, but now they tweet it :) haha
Yet another expansion to this already amazing Nest! Great job you guys! Can’t wait to get the notification.. Hee hee, so Rovio better hurry up so we can test this :)
Also @AMslimfordy maybe an extra option to get notifications of News items? Like this one? I know I should check the News section every day and I do regularly, but I gettng a notification would make me run in here faster ;)
@E-Star the RSS Feed may already do that.
Ah okay, thanks Slim, I think I need to educate myself with RSS, I know it is supposed to be very handy, but never looked into it. Guess now (well tomorrow actually, time for turning in for me now) is a good time to put that higher up my list of to do’s :D
I’m using this already, but I thought RSS was supposed to be old tech that’s on its way out. Why else would Twitter have got rid of this? :)
Love this new feature. I’m not always on the net on my iPod Touch, sometimes not online for a few days at a time, depending on where I am, but my mobile will nab any emails the Nest sends me.
@amslimfordy U know, as much as u guys post and update on games by Rovio, and are sponsored by Rovio, have u guys actually thought about having ur own app produced for ur website like Facebook and twitter??
@Trainman2012 I can’t speak for the rest of the team, but my expertise in coding stops at C++ and HTML. I have no experience in gaming programming.
We aren’t really “sponsored” by Rovio. We are the only site that has their permission to operate, though.
This is truly a great site! Thank you admins, for this great improvement!
One additional thought, Along with a potential notification that a top score had been bested, would be a notification that the individual user had dropped below the average on a particular level where they had previously been above said average. I know that would save me time each morning as I scan my leaderboards.
an idean @AMSlimfordy ….in addition to this awesome new service…what about allowing us to tag our profile with multiple platforms? for instance, I use both android AND PC.
@spdlives We plan to add profile options for secondary (maybe tertiary) platforms. This would require a bit of logic, but it’s on our to-do list and included in the “What’s next” section.
For you specifically, I might recommend setting your primary to Android. Though it has push notifications, it usually will receive updates first.
@AMslimfordy i thought about that…but I am waiting (patiently, as it turns out, which is odd for me) for the PC updates to push through…some of them like, like the ABS update STILL haven’t been released on PC…which is what i prefer to play on. My android phone is only a low end 2.3 android device, and runs the more complex levels really slowly. Glad to hear that we have the same idea though about multi-platform users. You guys run a great site and I probably hit this site at least 4 times a day!
Plenty of discussion about this in the forum, along with some news.
Wow! AngryBirdsNest this development on the site is pretty amazing, now I will always be informed when you get an update to my device, I thank you very much. :)
Really useful! Thanks ABN!
by the way! I found this http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=97954 it seems pretty interesting
Long live Angry Birds Nest!
This Feature Are Great, So I Am Not Going To Visit My apps For Updates, Good one ABN
@amslimfordy,
regarding an item in the What’s Next block: What else might you like to see? Let us know!
The option of getting notifications to my inbox here on the nest as apposed to my confirmed e-mail address.
Reason, I come to the nest several times a day. The e-mail I use for the nest (and many other sites) I may check once a week, if that. Notifications to my inbox on the nest would be seen far sooner, for me, than the e-mail address.
@sparty83 The current system won’t “PM” you as is right now — I assume this is what you mean.
However, there WILL be a (1) notification next to your username associated to the Update notification, just like with PMs and @ mentions.
Yes, I guess I meant PM’s. But if there is a notification like I get with the @ mentions, that will work fine.
OK I was kind of wondering what the opinion would be. Unfortunately we seem to be having a few mini issues with the system, but we are close to ironing them out.
It would be great to have an “Edit” option beside comment section so people who have forgotten to include a specific point previously can edit and re-post their comment. Personally it has happened with me a few times; after I posted a comment, I remembered that I’ve missed something and comment again making two simultaneous posts. It has happened here as well as in Rocketpond. So if there’s an edit option we can edit our old post to include the new query.
@Golidd That feature is Intentionally disabled on the main site, cause montoring changes and keeping out the Spammers would be an immens and undoable task.
@E-star, Sorry, I did not know that. I posted the request mainly out of causing typical problems like double-posting on the same matter and all but still thanks for the correction and Good Luck on keeping the spammers out. :)
@Golidd No problem and thanks! If you encounter such a thing as a correction you can @mention me or one of the other admins and I (we) will get a notification. I (we) can correct the problem for you, no problem at all!
