Buckle-up! Angry Birds Star Wars is set for an epic launch Thursday, November 8th. We are live at the launch event at the Toys ‘R’ Us in Times Square and will bring you details as they’re revealed! We have a short teaser video above and a bunch of details below. First, some general info:
- If there were any doubts, the official name is, “Angry Birds Star Wars”.
- Launching on iOS, Android, and likely PC/Mac (platform list an educated guess at this time).
Cast of Characters
Based on the image below it looks like all the original Star Wars characters you know and love — sans Jar Jar Binks (dang!) — have been transformed into Angry Birds. Here is a breakdown of the Star Wars characters and their Angry Birds counterparts that we know thus far.
- Red (the Red Bird) is once again our protagonist taking on the part of the young Jedi, Luke Skywalker.
- Chuck (the Yellow Bird) will transformed into handsome Han Solo.
- Terence (Big Brother) will be filling the role of Han’s trusted side kick Chewy.
- Stella (the Pink Bird) is our damsel in distress, the lovely Princess Leia.
- Matilda (the White Bird) is 24 karat awesome, playing C-3PO.
- An Egg appears to be playing the part of our beep-boop colleague, R2-D2. This may be wrong though, as I would expect to see more of the birds used first.
- Bomb (the Black Bird) is Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
- The Millennium Falcon has a slingshot on its roof
What about the pigs, say you? Is it any surprise that they’ve trotted to the Dark Side!
- I’m willing to gamble that Darth Vader is the King Pig, or at least a Mustache Pig — and maybe the King Pig is the Emperor.
TieOink Fighters are pigs!
Gameplay
We don’t have a ton of gameplay info to report just yet, but I for one am really looking forward to seeing it. We know some of the physics will be pulled from Angry Birds Space, but that’s only a small part of what I’m curious about. I’m really eager to see how deep into the Star Wars universe this will take us. What planets will we visit? Will the game follow a linear story line? Heck, I am just as curious about how the music and sound effects will be interwoven. All of it, I want, yes. Here is what we do know, though this is from the beta version, so it is subject to change:
- Right now the menus and interface are the same as Angry Birds Space
- Looks to be two “planets” to start: Tataouine, Luke’s home planet and an ominous pig-faced Death Star. Trench run to be determined!
- Space Eagle is available, but could receive an overhaul
- Imperial pigs! Dun dun da dun dun da dun!
- Star Wars screen transitions
Angry Birds Level First Look
Below is our first look at an actual level form Angry Birds Star Wars! There’s a few things that we can clearly see, though we are going to be very careful here and state everything is subject to change. Foremost, the planet is Tatooine. We see Luke, the Red Bird, ready to blast some porky storm troopers. For those familiar with the film, we see what looks like Luke’s house on the extreme right background, and the main piggy structure is a moisture vaporator.
Now, for the conjectures. The button that usually spawns the Mighty Eagle has been replaced by the “Alliance Starbird” — the insignia of the Rebel Alliance. What this may mean is that the Mighty Eagle will be replaced by Mighty Millennium Falcon (Eagle?), but this is not clear yet. Perhaps to the chagrin of some, it appears that this will be a consumable in-app purchase, similar to the Space Eagle in AB:Space.
Live Coverage from the Launch Event
Our very own @Sal9 is at the launch event in Times Square (so jealous!). Thanks to his efforts we’ve been able to share a lot of this info in real-time and a bunch of pictures from the event itself. As a show of gratitude, be sure to follow him on Twitter.

MONTHS too late. should have been released on May 4th :)
Okay, now I’m scared. Where are The Blues, Al, and Bubbles?????
well, Bubbles is Leia?
You’re thinking of Orange Bird (Bubbles) Pink Bird (Stella) is Leah.
many apologies. I would have thought that Bubbles would be the bird who produced bubbles. Pardon me for thinking logically about anything to do with this game :)
No sign of bubbles, as far as we can tell. The birds on the wallpaper will be the original star wars flock.
Rovio could very well add new characters in future updates.
How about Bubbles as Yoda, with a change of color and addition of big ears? The OB expansion seems to be suitable for Yoda.
Well the blue bird can be seen here
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d9HlCkDA9Kw/UHBSdYGYPKI/AAAAAAAAWT4/TuHAf-Tf3eU/s1600/hasbro+star+wars+angry+at-at+attack+game+2.jpg
It looks like a hoth rebel….
Bubbles should be under Vaders mask! It makes sense if you saw the Empire Strikes Back.
There is merchandise available on Amazon.com
No sign of the Blues or Bubbles, however.
Now, why the hell would Red(luke) have a father that is younger than him? (unless they do something to Bubbles… which would really be kewl!)
ok i was on angrybirds.com/starwars and if you click on rebellion a yoda that looks like blue bird may show up so now we know what blue is
Do you think the universe can handle three yodas ;-)
It could very well be.
Counting Origami Yoda? ;)
three yodas in one universe would be crazy! crazily awesome!!
yep!
I saw an ABSW T-shirt at JCPenney that had Yoda on it. He’s a brand new bird. I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture to post here.
This can be seen on the Tumblr page by joining the Rebellion.
I don’t believe “Yoda Bird” looks like the Blue birds.
The Blues are Hoth rebels, as stated before in the gaming products. This could very well be either a new bird or just be non-playable.
… i find the bird on left side of the pic the funniest. So i think it will be the Big Red by Star Wars :-)
I’m glad that they’re starting from episode iv, however I wonder if we will be able to launch the a pig if they have Anakin in the future.
Chuck, matilda, Stella? Where did those names come from?
yellow bird, white bird, and pink bird
I know Rovio named Terrance, did they name Chuck, Matilda,
and Stella as well?
yes, they named all the birds
When? I don’t recall it being anywhere.

The names can be most prominently found in Angry Birds Trilogy and in the National Geographic book – Angry Birds: Fed up, Feathered, and Furious
I have the NatGeo Angry Birds book. Unfortunately, aside from the real birds of course, it only features the five original Birds + Terence and Mighty Eagle, complete with backstory. Why they left Al (Boomerang) when he predated Terence mystifies me.
Dr. Omega, Al, Bubbles and Stella don’t have their biographies, which makes it sad (also, I know you know) except if they update trilogy to back to school.
(I’m still wondering why Al has no biography, like c’mon! he was in Danger Above! which was the THIRD episode in original! but, I understand why Bubbles has no biography, because his introductory episode wasn’t in trilogy, how sad.
Although I’m not familiar with star wars, but this look totally awesome!
The Rovio website says and I quote: “The game will be available on iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Windows Phone and Windows 8.” It seems it’ll be available for all on November 8th. The toys and costumes will be available at select retailers on Oct. 28th. (also according to the Rovio website)
This is going to be interesting… Can’t wait! ;)
@BirdLeader — You should add your photo to this page! Which bird is on shirt, and was this original Rovio swag, or was it made by course of the force?
I’ll link to it. It’s Angry Luke. Nope, not official. I made the shirt here specifically to wear to the Course of the Force charity run. It was based on the original Bite.ca imagery. It actually came out great. So good in fact that I am wearing it today.
Treat that T with care; it’s probably a collectors’ item. Can’t even begin to imagine how much it’s worth. Do you have more, or just one?
Idea — If there is another Course of the Force run. You could donate it for the charity auction! Need to figure how much it’s worth first though.
Update to AB Chrome with a link to the Bad Piggies site on the Home Page plus there’s less lagging for Season’s episodes.
Anyone else want to see a clash between the Space flock and the Star Wars flock?
sounds interesting
Am I the only one who thinks Bubbles might be Yoda?
it’s very possible, but he’s not the same shape as bubbles
This game looks weird…I kinda have a different feel for this one.
I assume that all birds will be equiped with arms corresponding their character from Star Wars and also perform their powers from AB games that we are used to.
arms as in weapons?
@Dr.Omega, sure you are guessing right. I just couldn’t remember right English word, weapon of course. Stupid me…
not stupid at all. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Just wanted to clarify if you were saying you wanted them to add arms, as in, limbs or weapons.
hmmm, so will Han Solo(Chuck)use his pistols to propel backwards?
So Cool….may the Force be with us….Always! So many possibilities!! I can’t wait until Nov. 8
Can’t wait for a new AB Game!
But IMO what would be truely epic would be some sort of backup/cloud service for all AB games.
Sparty83 you are right, Cloud for all AB games would be really “epic”.
What if they were planning an Angry Birds Star Wars and they didn’t have a Leia? Maybe that’s why they made the pink bird!
they would probably use Matilda and use Al as C3-PO
”platform list an educated guess at this time”
http://www.rovio.com/en/news/press-releases/226/angry-birds-star-wars-join-forces/
The game will be available on iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Windows Phone and Windows 8.
The egg beside C-3PO is definitely R2-D2. Our ABN picture of the “Official Background” is cropped. If you go to Angry Birds’ Facebook page or tumblr.com you will see the uncropped version and it confirms it is him as it shows his arm/legs attachments. It also shows more of the Death Star which like the Tie Fighters, also has a Pig Nose. Until I learn its AB/game name I’m going to call it the Black HamStar. The photo of the Angry Birds Poster “limited-absw-poster” also shows R2 in the bottom right hand corner.
A robot egg makes it a new character. I wonder what his powers/abilities will be?
Maybe it is the egg matilda drops, or it can be like the 3-star eggs in ABS
Nah, C-3PO(Matilda) would drop R2-D2(Egg) out of shkler, cause, C-3PO and R2-D2 are always portrayed together!.
Do you think that Han solo will use his pistol in the game?
I think you’re right about the egg dropping thing, pin van tongeren.
As I said before about Angry Birds Space and will say about this, they probably will make a free version to go along with this. It’s happened before, so what’s to stop them from doing it, right @AMslimfordy??
We don’t know anything about pricing at this time. I’d rather not speculate.
That’s probably a good idea. Hwever, if I were a betting man, and because LucasFilm will likely be getting a cut of the app price, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to find that AB:SW was slightly more expensive than previous apps.
Not that I consider that to be a great leap of logic, but you’ve gotta figure that since two large corporations are involved, more people are working on it, thus more people to be paid, thus a higher per unit cost for the release.
Now all we need is a final Seasons chapter for 2012, and our journey towards AB’s dark side will be complete.
Anyone know anything about an ABSW event in Los Angeles in the next few days? Peter Vesterbacka is headed our way.
The Mighty Eagle is in Arkansas today, which is the home of Walmart. Had to look this up, couldn’t figure out why Arkansas; got a useful tip from Peter’s twitter.
THE BLUE BIRD IS IN!!!!!!!
http://www.toywiz.com/angrybirdsstarwarspk.html
They might be going with when the movies premiered, using the Original trilogy first, then the prequels, then bonus content. This could also be a possible storyline, like LEGO Star Wars, where you get all the story elements of SW and the AB humor and elements are the icing on the cake.
This would likely mean the Hoth trooper is a bit part, though I wouldn’t rule any character or ability in or out until Rovio says so.
By bonus content I mean the Expanded Universe material.
Good choices on bird names, but does that apply to all apps now?
C3PO and R2D2 are androids, or droids, not robots, OK?
Do the cast and crew of Star Wars know about this yet? What is their involvement?

Yoda Bird! Or whatever you want to call it. :)
A fitting tagline:
“Red, join the PIG side of the force!”
I can’t wait for the release. My two favorite things Angry Birds and Star Wars. Star Wars was the first movie I saw at a theater when I was a 10-year old in 1977. I am sure with Lucas being involved it will be the best Angry Birds ever. Novemeber 8, 2012 will be epic!!!
@oldmanbird, we’re dating ourselves here but Star Wars was my 1st movie-going experience as well, & I can still remember it. This is going to be one awesome game! :)
@karen68, we may be older but at least we know how to enjoy ourselves. Angry birds has given me the opportunity to feel young again. I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting for the next release, whether it be ABO, ABR, ABS or ABSp. I don’t remember enjoying too many things as much as I enjoy Angry Birds. Maybe Angry Birds is my mid-life crisis. If it is, I say bring it on.
I don’t know how long I have waited for this.It is a dream come true.
