Angry Birds Space Red Planet Level 5-18 Walkthrough

Our strategy for Red Planet level 5-18 is to launch Ice Bird south, aiming for the two pigs on the first planet. Then launch Blue Bird on a north of the same planet and split just as it enters the VERY top of the gravity field pushing the lava asteroid down into the satellite. The score in the video below is 112,460.

Golden Rover #3 Opportunity Alert!

We have compiled another video, demonstrating a strategy submitted by @dmsral and expanded upon by @f91jsw. The Ice bird is shot in the same was as the first video, but the Blue birds are fired into the planetoid above the fiery asteroid. It is not incredibly easy to replicate, but the Blue birds can knock the fiery asteroid downward, with the volcano pushing it into the heart of the structure. The score in the video below is 132,980, but it has the potential for a lot more.

The original textual walkthrough advised sending the second bird around the south side of the planet and splitting partway around it so that one of the blue birds ricocheted off the top planet and back into the lava asteroid. This is a very hard shot to pull off, and I never quite got it to work, but I think it’s how the top scores were obtained. Hitting the asteroid squarely from the top would send it much more directly into the middle of the structure and cause a lot more damage, and would probably take out all of the pigs, leaving four birds unused.

Top score at this moment. Ice bird as video. I sent BB south on slightly lower trajectory than Ice Bird and split very early almost as soon as it enters gravity field. One blue bird bounced from the top planet and pushed fire asteroid down and in the middle of the right structure destroying most of it and killing all the pigs.

I’ve aimed the 2nd bird over the lava asteroid and a couple of times had a bird bounce back from the upper asteroid and nudge the lava asteroid back towards the volcano, which then pushes it into the middle of the structure. Not sure exactly where to hit for the bounceback yet. Just under 120k but definitely much more available.

By Liam

The ‘bounce back’ comes from a split bird bouncing off of the upper orb into the lava rock. It happens but I’m not sure it is all that repeatable, even with practice.

By Liam

See AustinRHL’s post above. This works, it is NOT consistent, and the split of the b/b is critical to get the ;’bounce’ needed to push the lava rock. THe next trick (by that I mean luck) comes with getting the planet pigs, AND enough destruction for a high score.

I achieved a 139080 with the south b/b ‘bounce’ ploy.

I found this comment thread a bit confusing so let me just sum the present state of the art:

@dmsral has presented the most repeatable high-score strategy (135k+ scores). First bird as in video. Second bird, aim for the top asteroid (the one without a gravitational field). On that asteroid there is a rocky outcrop on the SW part, facing the lavasteroid. It has a flat part which goes from NW to SE, and at the SE end there is a small “triangle.” Aim at the point where “triangle” connects with the flat part. Split at the last second. The angle created by the rock will cause the three blue birds to bounce back and “focus” in the direction of the lavasteriod. At least one of them should hit the lavasteroid and cause it to fall into the gravitational field, and then immediately it gets caught by the gas jet and crashes into the structure.

Just one little clarification that might help some people. In @f91jsw‘s explanation, it says aim the second bird at the “top asteroid.” I think of asteroids as the boulders that we see in Space, and it took me a few minutes to figure out that this isn’t what is meant. It’s the top planet (planetoid?) instead. Of course, this was probably obvious to everyone but me. (I would have been even more confused if there was a space boulder/asteroid in the level!)

I still haven’t been able to get a great score with one bird, but I will come back to this at some point. My score of 137,790 was with two birds. I found that if the only pigs remaining are in the right (southeast) part of the structure, I could pick up quite a few points by shooting over the lower planet, and going for the debris/pigs/crystal.

But I’m trying to see if there are some nuances to this that I’m missing, do 1 or 2 of the blues go in ahead of the lava bomb to sort of pave the way – a lot of the time it seemed to explode before making full contact with the structure, causing not nearly enough damage. Most of the time the bottom part barely moved. Took me about 90 mins just to get above average. And this level sure does showcase my wobbly flinging finger. Excellent score, congrats!

@karen68, I’ve had several 140k+ scores now, and the common factor (apart from a GREAT deal of luck!) is that 2 blue birds hit the lava thingy. This seems to give impetus and push it a bit further into the wind and so it pops out lower and the bottom is in the firing line. I think (don’t hold me to this!) that the 3rd blue bird trickles round towards the top crystal cluster. It’s all a bit random as to where the lava asteroidlets (sorry, stretching the language to breaking point here!) decide to explode.

In just a few tries I got a score of 141,000 and I thought I might as well quit but thought what the heck, tried once more, and got 147,000. I did it using two shots that are almost identical. This is probably the same as the strat from @aleksch but with a different explanation of when to activate the second bird. The first ice bird just like the video. The second bird either in the same path, or just slightly farther from the planet. (If you aim the first shot at the pig’s eye, you want the second shot to be
just a little farther from the planet.) Activate when the bird is just over or maybe slightly past the left or left middle “nub” that remains in the debris from the first bird. Using this spot I have been able to bounce off the top planet and hit the asteroid fairly consistently.
