Angry Birds Space Golden Eggsteroid #12 (E-12) Walkthrough | Sojourner

Golden Eggsteroid #12 (E-12) is located on level 5-12 of Angry Birds Space Red Planet. Zoom out and you will see the Rover on the extreme southeast of the level. Use the Lazer bird to reach the Rover by flinging south of the planets. Once you hit the egg you’ll immediately be transported via a wormhole to the level, which pays homage to the Sojourner Rover. One strategy 3-starring this level is to fire Orange birds just below the small asteroids to fling them toward the piggies and crystals above, maximizing your score!

*Note: Previously known as E-R2 (Sojourner), the level number was changed to E-12 with the 2.0.0 Beak Impact Update.

If you need help, the video below shows the location of the Golden Rover and a strategy for passing the level with 3 stars.

Here is my PAT for this one.
1st Bird – Aim at the small ice block on top of the ramp. Activate OB just before impact so he pushes everything up and to the right. You want to make sure he leaves a pretty big gap between the two remaining hollow wood squares and their stone triangle bases.
2nd Bird – You need to get this bird as close to the last pile of rocks as possible and manually activate so the bird pushes as much debris as possible up and to the right to get caught in the heat vent. It’s really neat when you get it just right. But, it takes some work.

High scores call for a very lucky first shot. Shoot though the near staircase just above the second step from the top and let it inflate by itself. This shot has to accomplish three things:

1) take out all of the crystals to the left (yes, all of them)
2) kick up the pebbles on the ground between the wooden structures
3) part the right hand structure, creating a pocket for the second shot.

The second shot blasts the rest of the debris either straight up or toward the steam vent, taking out the remaining pigs. Generally aim for the closest wheel of the trebuchet and inflate manually. The crystals to the right of the screen are out of bounds unless you get a lucky bounce.

I find that this gives a 180k score every 20 or so tries. My 187k score was particularly lucky and came after hundreds of attempts.

@burpie Got a question for you, sir. When you do shot #1, are you blasting through the square wood block underneath the staircase? I ask because using your aiming point he ends up nestled next to the first group of stones. When he self-inflates, he’s too far from the first structure to kick all the debris up to the first crystal pile. It drifts up in front of the sling, along with the leftmost part of the structure, especially that triangle stone block from the base which always drifts right onto the sling.

A Manual inflate just beyond the hollow wood block seems to fix all of these things, but I wanted to clarify before trying it for the next 10 hours. :)

Score after shot 1:
Probably 80+k but irrelevant. There’s a lot of crystals & pigs that you can just as easily pick up on shot 2. The only points you can’t get on shot 2 are the crystals to the left. If you accomplish the objectives you’ll be in great shape:
1) get crystals to the left
2) kick up the pebbles between the wooden structures
3) clear a path for shot 2.

Shot 2:
You’re trying to wedge the OB under the closest wheel of the trebuchet. That wheel is worth a lot of points if you can get it to participate in the mayhem.

It’s the 2nd shot I continued to have so … much trouble executing. I’d tried aiming just after the 1st shot & sometimes launched while debris moved to avoid the obstructions as suggested. In retrospect, I think there must have been something wrong with my 1st shot in that I very rarely if ever had enough cleared to get a good 2nd shot, then again, I did manage 180k & not just made it into Top 50, but managed to stay there ; -)

@justpast40 the score range after the 1st shot is really wide, I’ve had anywhere from 45k to 70k, it all depends on the damage.
For the 2nd shot I’ve had some higher scores aiming for top of that pile of rocks like @kelani describes below. You don’t want to aim for the bottom as you won’t get enough push upward to get any debris & pigs left in the middle. Even better I’ve found that if the orange bird rolls along the top a bit into the notch you can see after resetting. The notch often disappears after the 1st shot but that’s the area. The problem is getting to it as debris often blocks a clear shot.
I’ve also been lining up the 2nd shot immediately & watching the debris, depending on how it’s moving I’ve flung the 2nd bird quickly before something floats into the path.
Good luck! :)

Just what @karen68 and @burpie said. Still, It is really hard to get the debris to clear enough to land by the trebuchet wheel. I think it’s just a case of finding a Plan B aiming spot on the fly and hoping it works.

What I do know is the one good score I got today happened when I inflated bird 2 between the cloud of pigs & structure 2 remnants and the untouched pile of stones next to the trebuchet. The inflation blasted the bottom stones off the planet (like a trampoline) and into the floating piggy debris. That helped push nearly everything to the top planet.

Flung the first OB through the slanted board on the left between the second and third glass blocks from the bottom. If OB goes through the hollow wood box, activate it prior to hitting the little stone block on the right.

On a few occasions this opened a pathway to the right pile of stones so the second OB just landed next to it on the pile’s left side.

Heh, @catsnbirds I know the feeling. Took me 3 posts to get a screenshot link right a few days ago.

I think I can simplify the aiming on this one. To the right of the first structure, on the ground is a tiny ice block. Aim right through it. Coincidentally, the aiming line matches the terrain. OB won’t always make it through the hollow wood block, but when he does, there’s a 50/50 of two things happening.

1. Bird flies straight through the ice block and nestles under the wood plank that’s holding the rock pile. If this happens, I reset. You don’t get good shrapnel from the first structure, so few if any of the crystals, and a whole pile of junk will block your shot every time.

2. OB hits the tiny ice block and bounces up-right into the end of the wood plank that’s holding the stones. From there, he drifts left a bit. This spot nukes everything and almost always leaves you a perfectly clear second shot, although sometimes you need to fire while stuff is moving to avoid having something stop in your way.

Shot 2, If I can hit it, I get better scores aiming for the *top* of the stone pile, rather than the left. This is the same trajectory @burpie mentioned.

@catsnbirds – your strat of triggering right after he breaks through is close to this location, just a bit low and to the left. With half my shots failing to break through the block, then half of those failing to get that bounce, yours is a much saner idea :)

burpie’s method fixed that by destroying the first structure and severely damaging the second, and my aiming tweak gets the crystals and leaves a clear path for the #2 shot, but 99.9% of my scores were 170k or lower. Only 3 over 180k since the challenge started.

The other burpie variants were the opposite for me. Impossible to get all left crystals, rarely a clear path, but when there was, awesome #2 shot scores :)
