Courtesy of both Samsung and SXSW, we have our first real glimpse at full-fledged gameplay in Angry Birds Space. As we reported in the official announcement, the first two episodes are called “Pig Bang” and “Cold Cuts”. Each episode will contain 30 levels and will be included at launch.
But wait, there’s more!
There will be a third episode called “Danger Zone” featuring 30 extremely challenging — brainteaser-like — levels. According to Samsung, this episode will be available as an in-app purchase (for which platforms is unclear at this time). Samsung Galaxy users will be able to access this episode free for 3 months from launch date and there will be an exclusive level, which you can see in the video below.
But wait, there might be even more!
Check out the SXSW demo below and you’ll see what looks to be a fourth episode called “Eggsteroids”. It appears this episode will be included at launch as well; though, I can’t see the episode selection screen well enough to make out the total number of levels (there are at least six). The developers got to have a bit of fun with this episode, as we see one level resembling old Super Mario Bros gameplay. If I was a betting man, I’d say this would also be an in-app purchase, or it could be analogous to the “Golden Eggs” episode of ABo.
So all told we’ve now seen four episodes: Pig Bang, Cold Cuts, Danger Zone, and Eggsteroids. Again, we don’t know what will exactly be available at launch — nor do we know exactly what will be free and what will be available as in-app purchase — but who cares, there will definitely be a lot of value packed into Angry Birds Space.

Yay! The “Danger Zone” levels really look mind-boggling, and it did too for that Rovio employee too!
So, the 22nd is tomorrow, right? 0—0
I wonder how are we going to get access to the bonus levels in other platforms since they said that in-app purchase will be available only in iOS (and maybe Android Samsung Galaxy as it seems?).
However, the AB Space footage is really cool! :-)
In-app purchase should be available for Android too.
http://android-developers.blogspot.in/2011/03/in-app-billing-launched-on-android.html
Yes, but Rovio specifically and only references iOS:
http://www.rovio.com/en/news/press-kits
wow! thats looks very cool!
Birds just got real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For iOS it’ll be a paid app, then why will there be a separate in-app purchase for level pack? For Android it makes sense as it will be a free app (with Ads) at Android Market (Google Play) and they’ve recently introduced in-app purchases on Android.
I don’t mind paying for something like ME but I surely don’t like paying for more levels.
P.S. I know the picture is not clear at this point and I’m not even blaming anyone but it’s just a thought.
As an answer also to your previous reply, Android in-app purchases are here for some time now (if you check the link you provided above, is one year old). Still no Mighty Eagle however, in any of their 3 games, which means that something is still problematic for them…
And in their official announcement for Space they explicitly say that in-app purchases will be iOS only which does not make much sense now that in Samsung Galaxy users will also be able to purchase (?) the bonus levels after the 3 months.
Probably it’s soon to clearly tell, indeed! :-)
I think that the Samsung Galaxy users will already have those features or extra levlels loaded in them.
Yes but only for three months according to the second video from the post above… That’s why I assume that they will be given the option to buy them after these three months.
So it seems that during these 3 months, the guys at Rovio and Samsung are going to be working over to solve this problem. As well as for PC and Mac, this seems a mystery though.
You’ve got a point. Rovio did plan for their own in-app purchase viz. ‘Bad Piggy Bank’ but we haven’t heard about any development in it from quite some time now.
I hope that the Bad Piggy Bank and the in-app purchase is coming to Android with this new game! And so the Bad Piggy Bank and the in-app purchase come to ABO, ABS and ABR!
Amazon already has in-app purchases, so I don’t get why amazon doesn’t have the ME or other in-app purchases.
This old article might help you understand.
http://thedroidguy.com/2010/12/angry-birds-mighty-eagle-makes-android-well-a-little-angry/
I once wrote Amazon to inquire about the Mighty Eagle. Iam sure the answer would be the same for all in app purchases. Here is the respose I received: Hello Kevin,
Its great to hear there are fellow Angry Birds Fans out there!
Unfortunately, we don’t know when/if the Amazon Appstore will be allowed licensing for the Mighty Eagle update. Your best bet is to contact the developers, Rovio in this case and see what there plan is. For your convenience I’ve provided the information below:

Maybe the episode “Eggsteroids” is some sort of GE counterpart from the other games? I dont know, just my 2 cents.
That’s what it looked like to me.
Super Mario? :P
It looks cool and brain-challenging! Maybe it will take up most of my leisure time.
wont the level scores end with a 0 anymore cause in the extra level video in the end it says higscore 62945! and another question, so it is possible that ios users must pay for the danger zone extra?!
how likely is it that there comes a free version?!
and any rumours/news about updates for the free versions right now? (abriofree, abseasonsfree)
sorry if any of these questions has already been asked/answered!
Yes, we can’t rule out freemium app possibility and in-app purchase for more level packs, enhancement etc. but I wish for a paid app for iOS with no Ads or nothing distracting the gameplay.
–I’ll ask Rovio about the level scores. I’m hoping they all end in 0, but that video is a little disturbing (from point of view of our leaderboards).
–Danger Zone for iOS seems to be an IAP.
–A “trial” version has not been rumored, but is indeed possible.
–Haven’t heard anything.
I don’t really care if none of it’s free on iOS. I’ll happily pay per level!!!!
In gameplay video embedded above, ‘Sling Scope’, one of the Power-up from facebook is present by default.
My guess: As People are not familiar with zero and low-gravity situations, it will help them aim better.
Hey, Slim. Could the “Eggsteroids” be golden eggs?
Not clear at this point in time. I believe yes, but there is nothing conclusive.
I definitely heard ‘discover in the game’, so personally I reckon they will be!
At 2:27 on the 2nd video, it sort of reminds me of mario games.
Yes that was the point.
So ios user have to pay again to get Danger Zone? Any clue how much ABS will be?
I’m confused about the purple bird, What direction does it go when you tap the screen?
What’s with the counter at the bottom middle of the screen?
A lot of this is speculative at the moment, so it’s hard to say. My guess is pricing will be very similar to as it is now.
Also found this video as well more level shown from each planet. A little hard to hear since a band is playing in the background.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTAhXybvZis
The videos you linked already exist, on the meet the birds post.
I think the purple bird zips in any direction you want him to, if you tap or click the spot you want him to hit.
You can see the crosshairs onscreen. It will redirect toward your tap.
Wow, i’ve always hoped for such hard puzzle-like levels as this!
Does it look to you guys that we will be able to skip around the levels rather than having to finish one before being able to move to the next one? I hope so.
No I think within each episode, levels must be solved in order.
Rats.
Cannot wait!
The Eggsteroid level 2 reminds me remarkably of Super Mario Bros… except when you hit the item box, there’s a pig instead of a mushroom.
Have you seen the “Eggsteroid” levels? If so are they on video?
In the video in the post.
I think there are more videos on YouTube, than linked in post. One has a lot more on Eggsteroids
Really? I checked out a few but this was the only one which showed me the “Eggsteroids” levels. Can you provide link if so?
I think he is referring to the video above “the demo”. Towards the end they show us one of the eggsteroids levels ;) inspired by a classic arcade game.
Haven’t been able to find it again; will let you know if I do.
I added another video. Not much about Eggsteroids, but she mentions the “Icecube Bird”. (Not gonna change the name on “Meet” until the official video release.)
Is Angry Birds space coming symbian soon? I dont want wait that two months or two years! Or it not came avaible symbian never!
Rovio has no plans for symbian at the moment, sorry.
Hint hint:
Get an iPhone. :)
Rovio said there is no current plan for Symbian
Very disappointed!!!Gonna get an Android/iOS gadget… :(
I think the Eggstroids level selection would be like golden eggs in the first game.
Holy cow! This is the Craziest, Coolest Angry Birds game Ever! It should take longer than usual to complete all of these levels(SO Many)…can’t wait to begin! First AB Went global and now Universal! Kudos to the developers and AB Nest website keepers for keeping us entertained and informed!
Poor real pigs, i have a stuffed animal pig (real pig, not AB) and if he were real, he’d be sad because everyone hates him thanks to AB.
Anyone else seriously tempted to take March 22 off in order to stay home and play ABspace all day? I just can’t wait for this.
yes…that’s a great idea!
i would, but I have college all day :(
Well, either way you’re going to learn Physics ;)
Maybe you can do a term paper on the physics of AB in Space. You are taking physics, right?
What is SXSW and how did that guy get the game.
SXSW is a major tech conference. “That guy” is a Rovio employee.
Oooo so that is why he has the game.
My husband is such a dear, and not a bird fan, he just tried to update me again on space release, but all of you have beat him to that punch, again. Thanks for being, SO, on top of things!!!!! :)
Will there be achievements?
Nothing has been said definitively but my guess is iOS:Yes.
Hello,
can you please tell me when Angry Birds Space is coming to the PC?
I realized that when Angry Birds Seasons came to the Ipod, the PC version wasn’t released for a very long time, but now it was finally released?
Thank you,
Rachel
22 March for iOS, Android, Mac and PC.
@Slim or BL watch this, the new game have a boss fight mode, just like rio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0FjnjxqGiE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Very noteworthy! Will add this to the post.
lol. I was just about to post this/just watch it. Super excited they will included this.
I also just read an article that ABSpace might be available on PSVita. But it’s only up to up Sony it they want to.
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Angry-Birds-Space-Could-Come-Vita-40316.html
Does not seem too conclusive.
There are a whole bunch of videos with the same woman (from Samsung?) interviewing the Rovio guy. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to have ever played AB.
Just thought of some thing. If the “Frosh bird” and the Ice breaker bird are combine in a level,it would be epic!!!!
I think there is the equivalent in ABOS.
Another video showing a few other levels:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOFGTt8PWXI&feature=player_embedded
In this video, the Pigs are frozen but are not counted as popped until they hit a structure.
Ya know that in real life if birds hit the gravity layer of a planet, those birds will be burning up like a meteorite!
Hahaha. Those birds wouldnt care since they’d be frozen solid in an void with no air. So I believe some suspension of disbelief is presumed.
