Rovio has confirmed via Twitter and their blog that we should expect a Japanese-themed Angry Birds Seasons Cherry Blossom update on March 7th. That means it’s slated to arrive even before Angry Birds Space touches down on March 22nd. This will be the first Japanese-themed episode of Angry Birds and it’s set to arrive just before Japan’s cherry blossom trees are set to bloom.
A few more details about the forthcoming Cherry Blossom update merged since the original post. This episode will be set in the shadow of Mt. Fuji and include 15 new levels and two bonus levels (presumably one Golden Egg and one surprise level that is unlocked after achieving 3 stars on all levels). The update will be available for iOS, Android, and Symbian^3, and Chrome; although, we’re not sure what order — or when — said platforms might receive this update. We also expect other platforms will receive this update within a few days. It’s definitely interesting to see Chrome in the list, as it has traditionally not been included in these type of updates.
As always, it will be awesome to see what they do with this update. I’ve always said, there is nothing like crushing bento boxes with my Sumo birds while sipping on a pipping hot cup of green tea. Okay, I haven’t always said that. Anyhow, if I were the Emperor Pig I would be very afraid.

Can’t wait to see cherry blossoms falling like snow! We were lucky enough to be in Japan during the height of the cherry blossoms. I think half the trees in Japan are cherries, and it is beyond spectacular.
At least I get a taste of cherry blossoms in my area.

I just thought of something. I would not be surprised if this update brings the level cleared/failed screens up to the ABR/ABO standard. Not a big thing, I know, although I recall some of the reaction to this when Birdday Party was released.
It would be nice to see, since I would think AB:Space will have it too. But in both cases, I hope the counter runs purely as in Rio. The way it runs in ABo is not great, IMHO.

Well, Moon Cacke festival & Dragon Year are Chinese, but Cherry Blossom is Japanese.

Just tell them it is apple juice! Seriously, my kids see me drinking a beer or three every now and then, they haven’t been scarred for life. We could even get big barmaid pig complete with braids and liederhosen, along with her younger more svelte sister! (Ok maybe now we are out of the realm of kids games)
But think about the audience that has never seen someone drunk before. It can creep out the 8-10 year olds.
Keep in mind, that countries that are not the U.S., have very different views on the consumption of alcohol in their society. Don’t think Rovio will do anything with beer, or wine.. but I for one would think that would be cool!

I would love oompah music, maybe a polka or TWO! Here in Ohio, there are lots of us with German ancestry and Ocktoberfest is a family event. That would be wonderful. Instead of doughnuts, they could have strudel:). Anyway, I am looking forward to the Cherry Blossom update, it looks absolutely beautiful.

I come on the site and now I know about an update to ABR. I also found out about the Angry Birds Facebook game and the release of ABOS coming out in March. And now I recently read about this update coming soon. Thank you Rovio for all of these updates!
Pocket Gamer has named Rovio as the #1 developer in 2012 and ABR won “Best Mobile App for Consumers” at the Global Mobile Awards.

It is actually possible big time 2 updates in a month. 1. Angry Birds Seasons Cherry Blossoms, 2. ANGRY BIRDS SPACE PREMIERE. What is NOT possible is 3.

imo it would be very cliché to do the same themes year in year out. Change (and harder levels) are very welcome.

I think the Korean thanksgiving which is called “Chuseok(Hangawi)” will be the best Korean theme. It is a 3day holiday(3 red days in a row, the day before, the day, the day after.) Also in Korea, Lunar New Year is also a 3 day holiday.
You should send e-mail to Rovio, and explain what the themes would be, e.g. for US Thanksgiving we have turkeys, lots of food, autumn leaves, etc. When is Korean thanksgiving?
I don’t know when Korean thanksgiving is, but i think Rovio will try different countries’ holidays as the time goes by. Rovio has done a lot for us.
It is August 14,15, 16th on lunar calender. This year in solar calender it is September29, 30th and October 1th. I do not know if the it is on the same date with Chinese moon festival. 감사합니다(thank you)

How could the release date, 3/7, still be a rumor? A photo in Mighty’s link shows the date on a picture.
We don’t like to go all-in without something specific (in english) from Rovio. But yeah, it really looks like the 7th.
