Our strategy for High Dive Level #1 is to fling the Red bird underwater to release the TNT. Easy as pie to start off the episode. The score in the video below is 55,200.
Half-Crash Bug: There is a bug across some of the High Dive levels which results in a partial crashing of the app. When the app recovers, some users have reported scores ranging from a 10k-point bonus (and even higher, such as 2^31 and NaN). As such, ABN has determined that such scores are not permitted on our leaderboards. We thank you for your consideration with regards to this bug.
Nice easy level to start. The video method is the only way to go. After that, it’s a matter of luck to get a higher score.
Can’t believe what has just happened.
I’d reported problems with playing the update earlier on the ABN news page, put my tablet on charge for about an hour, thought i’d open the app to try level 1 again, the screen froze after several replays, the level images/background part-disappeared, the screen kind of zoomed in a few times on its own, then rather than to show a ”not responding wait/report/close” message as it had done previously (before charging tablet), the level went straight to the level closure score screen with a new high score of 70320.
A possible glitch perhaps?

I can confirm this glitch. It looks like the app has crashed; the screen is frozen and nothing happens. No shutdown of the game, a crash report question or returning to the home screen. Then the game shows a couple of “hickup-screens” in about one or two minutes where it seems to make a little progress towards the end-sequence. And the all of a sudden it completes the level. As far as I could follow it, it looks like it has some problems finishing of the level, and then does it in 2 steps. First it will count towards your actual score including the unused birds, then it freezes, and when it finally continues, it will count the unused birds again. Leaving me now with a current highscore of 77530 :-)

Scores from such a glitch should not be allowed since it is a device or “technical” glitch, and may not be available to everyone.
Final determination should be up to @amslimfordy and management.
Well, there always room for an extra Badge. I’m still trying for my Over The Moon badge. Anchors Away is also on my still-to-achieve-list :-)
I understand, but those seem to be universally available, and not due to a device going “off the reservation”.
If this is a common place glitch (available to both IOS and Android and at a fairly regular basis) then I can see allowing it.
Either way, its up to the men upstairs. LOL
@leggy @Tinus @AMSlimfordy — This sounds more like a bug than a glitch that can be repeated initiated. I, too, have had several screen freezes and / or crashes (immediate exit of game), in several different levels.
Would be interested to know how many people have experienced this particular glitch or bug.
Bug or glitch, I don’t know. However, I do know that after the level finished, the game didn’t crash. I could continue playing normally. Played on Samsung Galaxy S III Android 4.3 BTW
Glitch or bug? Not sure, but I have also seen it on this level. I was not lucky like some others to get a 70k score or higher (yet?) I don’t have a screen cap of mine on this level, but I think this screen cap is of the bug/glitch on level 5

I’m sure Rovio will issue a bug fix update for this soon.
There’s no way this is not a technical issue.
Get your high scores while you can!
This level is also glitchy on iPad (iOS7). No extra points awarded so far but occasionally stuff just disappears — like in this video at 0:11: http://youtu.be/ff5DipRuvQo.

I’ve experienced the same disappearing structure on iPad Mini (iOS 7), but also without extra points. No crashes similar to those described above as of yet.
Well, there definately is something amiss with this release :-)
I’ve had exactly the same “frozen slowly moving forward” screens on level 2. Eventually the level completed and the game still was playable afterwards. No extra points this time, but who knows ;-)

Playing on Kindle, also glitching. Everything disappeared except the slingshot and green leaves. My score was 57k with two birds left when it froze. That score seems to be a common element (?) .
I’ve had the same incident as @leggy describes on a few other levels as well. I’m guessing that it could randomly happen in any level.
I had the same issue on an iMAC did not freeze but I now have a new high score of 2,147,483,648 ” with 1 Bird” on Level 1 of High Dive ;-) I promise not to post it on the leaderboard
For the feather: first bird like video, then throw the sardines up on the ‘roof’. It will fall down and then 100%
I got the feather by throwing the first bird then tossing the sardines on the “Down” arrow.
It seems to me that the higher scores (not the glitch ones) are a result of how the bird hits the TNT. If the bird bounches of a wall first, score is lower then when bird hits TNT directly. So a good curve through the water is essential.
Thanks @tinus, a direct hit got me 65k :)
As always, you’re welcome :-)
Thanks @tinus and @bonneypattycat. One slight additional clarification. Some direct hits are better than others. My best were when the red bird also hit the horizontal stone and pushed it to the right, causing the stone tower to fall as well.
@Tinus @Captrec — Thanks! A direct hit is definitely the way to go. Haven’t gotten the horizontal stone to knock over the tower yet. My best score, 63.8K, happened when the red bird went above the stones, and believe it or not, the green canopy did not get destroyed. Not sure how much you get for that canopy, but I think it is significant.
Well, seems @Captrec was right on the spot. Despite the level constantly crashing, I couldn’t stand a ranking of 108 anymore, so I gave it another go. I got a direct hit and the right horizontal slate was pushed vertical as well. Instant score of 63010. I’m guessing that this slate is a trigger in the level’s sequence, and if you can flip it fully over to the right, a really high score can be achieved. Now if Rovio would just release an update ;-)
@tinus, you hit the nail on the head with your comment about needing a direct hit for a decent score. After several days stuck at under 62k & an abyssal rank, I just managed yet another direct hit for 63500 on my Android phone & a decent rank for now. Not all direct hits score well, most only scored in the high 59k to low 60k. After this direct hit, just as the TNT rose, it caught the angled corner on the left edge of the horizontal stone ledge as it exploded, causing the additional damages for this score. Phew …. I’m glad this one is over.
Glad you made it @justpast40 :-)
Myself, I’m leaving this level until Rovio fixes it. It’s crashing about 1 in 2 now, so my advice probably won’t do me any good for now ;-)
I’m with you on this one @tinus – I’ve had so many crashes on my iphone that this level is becoming unplayable & quite frustrating! I’ll return one fixed same as you!!
This is the crappiest release I’ve ever seen from Rovio (and nothing I’m used to from them). I expected a quick update really soon, but sofar it’s very quiet…
Need a bit of luck to have the TNT clip the long horizontal stone plank on the way up & collapse the stone. Even with a direct hit it didn’t happen very often, & when it did I had scores mainly in the 58-60k range. I couldn’t tell what went differently for 65k, it looked just like the other attempts.
Glad I finally looked at the comments. 20 minutes and 50 flings got me a direct hit, TNT exploded in place, finally over 62K. going for 65
If you’re zoomed all the way out, there is a bump in the cloud giving about a 60 degree down angle. center red in the bump for a good starting point
Sorry. Glitch scores should not be allowed on leaderboards.
Well, that’s a decision for Management :-)
In this case, I’m guessing it’s a bug, not a glitch. But I’m happy to remove my bugscore once Management has ruled ;-)
However, for now there’s just a little extra fun in trying to get such an abnormal score :-)
I’ll try talking with BirdLeader about this today to make a ruling. Bug for now, I want to make a quick distinction.
• A glitch is typically repeatable to a certain degree. Examples of this would include the Raft & Anchor Glitch and the Santa Hat Glitch. We allow such scores on our leaderboards because there is some semi-repeatable strategy that allows users to “exploit” such glitches.
• A bug is typically a flaw in the game, sometimes the result of low RAM and data being skipped. There is no strategy to exploit bugs. An example of this would include the Double-Bonus Bird Bug in ABR. We do not allow such scores on our leaderboards because it is a flaw in the user’s device.

@leggy @Tinus @SweetP et. al.
After receiving a report of a user scoring 2^31 points (2,147,483,648), it’s even more obvious that this is a bug — as it violates all scoring rules for the app. We’ve also heard a report of a user receiving a score of “NaN”, which displayed a 3-star tally of 0 points.
Therefore, per a conversation with @BirdLeader, we have decided that such scores are NOT permitted on the leaderboard. This applies not only to Level #1, but to all of High Dive.
Please help us by removing any such scores from your boards. You are, of course, welcome to enter your best scores obtained without this bug.
I have no problems with this ruling. Unfortunately this means having to track my highest score manually, since it still says 77530 in my screen :-)
@tinus – I have no problems with this ruling either. That said, I have been finding it quite difficult to get this particular level to co-operate so that I could get a non-bug score, lol.
@amslimfordy @birdleader – whilst this has taken me some time to achieve, I’ve finally gotten a non-bug score and have posted a screenshot in my album. Thanks for your consideration also.
@amslimfordy,
I did not see this until after I posted my comments on level 6. Either way, I have NOT benefited from the bug yet. I have had it happen on quite a few levels. So far, the only thing that comes to mind as to why it’s happening it it only happens on my phone after I have been playing for quite awhile. I don’t think it has happened in less that 30 minutes of playing, and that’s not on the same level. The level 6 lockup that I posted this morning was after playing for around 1 1/2 hours. I was playing levels 2,3,4,5,6 when it happened and my phone was quite warm. Much warmer then when I play the other versions, or even some other games. This new RIO update is VERY graphical and I am wondering if it’s just pushing the limits of my hardware. Just spitballing here.
I’m definitely buggered out on this one. It is a bug not a glitch. I’ve had it happen quite a lot since last night on Level 1. I’ve seen it on a few other levels so far but I had either restarted the level as it happened or it totally crashes the game. Highest bug score for me is 81k. Highest legit non-bug score for me is nearly 63k so far.
Hopefully Rovio will get on this one.
@amslimfordy, @birdleader, @mvnla2 – I’ll post on the bug forum page when I can identify the other levels with the bug. I can’t remember right now as I kept replaying this one over and over to get some screenshots. I can post them if needed.
I have not seen the glitch yet. 65k without the glitch.
Please post here if you get a non-glitch top score. Thanks :)
@bonneypattycat Would you say maybe 67k is a reasonable cap of “legit” scores?
@AMslimfordy I think 67k would be a good starting point. I had a fair amount of debris, so more than 67k might be possible. I have video :)
http://youtu.be/8sjGHoiDUKY
@bonneypattycat Thanks for video–gave me hope I could do better than scores in the 50k range–playing on pc, so no bugs yet–just kept shooting–thanks again!

You are welcome and Congrats on top score @bdub!
It is now May 2014, I have played level 1 for about an hour or so, hundreds of flings and I have not had a crash or any sign of bug issue… (But I have not tried the other levels yet)….. Maybe fixed by now?
I do have a strat (or tip) for launching to the red bird to direct hit TNT, it worked pretty constantly for me.
Keep screen in default zoomed in (big, close up view)
Take sling back at about 45degree angle up, pulling back full strength.
Have the right side of the sling band just barely touch the left sling post, or leave only a very little space…..but only about a HAIR width of space…
I would hit the TNT directly about 95% of the time. But to score over 60k, I averaged only about once in every 50 flings or so!
Just keep trying.
Most of the time best results when the red bird would also break through into main area for extra destruction….
But on the same note, I have also had the RB disrupt the fall-out and hender my scoring too.
I found this level to be on the quick side to end. On my high score, debris was still falling when final score ended… Ugh!
I got a regular (non-bug) score of 63.8k, that is good enough for me at this time!
On ward to next level.
Happy flinging!
I think I worded my launch tip wrong.
Take sling back at about 45degree angle up, pulling back full strength.
Have the BOTTOM of the RIGHT SLING BAND just barely touch the TOP CORNER of LEFT SLING POST.
or leave only a very little space…..but only about a HAIR width of space…
@diannas Thanks for this great aiming tip. I’ve spent some time playing around with it and on PC, the sweet spot is when the band actually touches the top-right corner of the left post (is there any non-confusing way to say that? :) ).
Anyway, If you see even one pixel of blue sky shows between sling band and post, the shot will hit a few pixels left of where you want. Make that blue disappear and you should be dead on.
When the shot works, Red hits the fuse and the stone planks either fly up or are destroyed outright. Then it’s up to the Rovio gods.
It took lots of rinse and repeats to get an above average score and then I got three in a row. Go figure ;-)
Thanks to @diannas for the aiming tip, I did in fact need the slight gap between the sling strap and left post. When I left no gap, I never got a direct hit.
Also unlike the two videos posted, the difference for my slightly higher scores came from Red hitting the string dead on or slightly right so that the tnt exploded the supporting rock formation which allowed for better destruction. I also got both tents to go along with the rocks on one occasion for a score of only 62110 but I’ll take it. Previously stuck at 61K+ with the rocks and only the green tent. I only got the yellow tent one time.
P.S. I’m just getting started on these levels and so far no bug showing up for me. I play on a 1st generation iPad…or maybe they “fixed” it by now. I’m glad I haven’t had to deal with that…yet, still 19+ levels to go, :-D
Thanks @diannas for the post. I was using the same technique to line up the bird prior to reading your post. Took a while to break into 63k range. Stuck at 62k for a while but hit the fuse and pushed the stone and red bird into the structure. Explosion took place early and right after red bird broke through.
Red bird down to cut rops/release TNT!! 62K
Never experienced any Bug on this level. Not too sure if it has been corrected. But will keep my eyes open!
I did notice that I got higher scores when Red would make it through the gap and get up to the surface of the water.
Haven’t seen a glitch so I’m guessing it was corrected.
