Finally, after months of anticipation, Angry Birds Friends is now available on mobile devices. This far, we have seen the app land for iOS as a FREE universal app for iPhone and iPad, and for Android via Google Play.
Disclaimer: No, we do not know if your specific device is now or will ever be supported in the future. These types of questions should be directed to Rovio Support.
Can’t find it? Go to the AppStore and select any Angry Birds app. Go to the developer page and, under iPhone apps, it should be listed as the last one. Also, be sure to grab the v1.0.1 bug-fix update, which may help users with login issues.
Let’s get down to the details here. What’s included?
- Foremost, let’s stress again that this is a FREE app, a universal app on iOS, optimized for iPhone 5, and all that awesome stuff. Note that free means ad-supported, though ads will be removed if you purchase any pack of Bird Coins (see more below).
- The app requires a Facebook account. On iOS 6.x, the login is truly seamless if you have your Facebook login information set in your iOS Settings. On other devices, I would imagine you are prompted to login via a dialogue box.
- Before you can login to your Facebook account, you have to complete the tutorial. It’s not hard at all, we promise. You MUST use whatever Power Ups the game prompts you to use, but since you aren’t logged in, they are free PUs.
- After you finish the 5-step tutorial process, you can login to Facebook to earn a bonus of 200 Bird Coins, which can be used toward the purchase of Power Ups. All of your to-date Tournament progress will be there, and I mean all of it — including past results, available Power Ups, and all of your Facebook competitors.
- All the typical Power Up rules exist. On a given try, you may use at most two distinct PUs from Sling Scope (adds a trajectory line), Super Seeds (supersize your fowl), King Sling (super strong and fast slingshot), and Birdquake (shake shake shake). Wingman is another Power Up, treated independently of the original four, and exclusive to the Angry Birds Friends Tournament.
- At this time, the only levels available for play are the Tournament levels. It is possible that, in the future, the app will be expanded to include the other levels available on Facebook. For now, it is a means of playing the weekly Tournament away from your PC.
- Feel free to enter any legitimate scores (including scores obtained using legitimate use of Power Ups) on our brand new Angry Birds Friends Tournament Leaderboard. You will be competing against the best of the best, so be prepared for some tough competition.
For more information, see the following posts:
- Our original post about the coming of this release.
- Facebook Power Ups explanatory post, which highlights how these are used (if you need more info beyond the in-game tutorial).

@AMslimfordy Could you please make “power-up practice” leaderboards?
I don’t think we will create a whole new Leaderboard for 4 levels. Sorry.
maybe we could have a “HODGE PODGE”….or even better, a “HOGS PODGE” leaderboard with all of the levels that don’t have leaderboards, i.e. Ultrabook adventure, CHeetos 2, the practice levels mentioned above….. just a thought :)
Has anyone else received this message when trying to sign in? ERROR The Operation Couldn’t be Completed. (com.facebook.sdk.error 2)?
Yes, this is if you are not logged into your Facebook app
I was logged in, so I logged out, then back in and tried again. Same error.
Does anyone have any advice? I keep getting this message – ERROR The Operation Couldn’t be Completed. (com.facebook.sdk.error 2)?
I have logged in and out of Facebook on my ipad and computer,
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app
I have powered down and restarted the iPad
I still get the error message. All advice is most welcome. Thanks.
What OS are you running?
IOS 6.1.3
I have the same probleme can’t load it Error
Does anyone have a idea?
I get the same error when i try to play it on my iphone which makes me think that the issue is within the Facebook settings but nothing I have ‘checked’ or ‘unchecked’ has made any difference.
Yes i have no chance. Hopefully it runs soon :-)
Got it! Go to Settings, then Facebook, then find the phrase ‘allow these apps to use your account’ and switch the box next to Angry Birds Friends from No to Yes.
Go to your iOS Settings and select Facebook as the next option. There should be a login prompt there, independent of the “app” itself.
Your reply just popped up Slim, thanks. I had just posted the fix which is one step beyond what you just said. After signing in to Facebook, I then had to allow the app to use my account. Thanks for your help, always much appreciated.
@laurafj :)
Thanks @amslimfordy @laurafj for helping. It works :-)
Well mine I still not working on the iPad or iPhone but it does on my glaxy tab
So hopefully they will fi it soon
Is it me or it’s really complicated to find it in the APP store?
I didn’t have any difficulties. It seems to be listed as an iPhone app, if that helps.
It’s simply not there. Maybe it hasn’t arrived in the UK yet?
Not in the French neither the Canadian store!!
May be US only right now and being rolled out slowly elsewhere. It should be there soon.
I have it in the New Zealand App Store just went into another rovio app and went developer info and scrolled to the bottom and there it was
I can’t find it in the U.S. either. Driving me crazy.
Actually, I just found it but I had to go through my Facebook app. Just search Angry Birds Friends in the Facebook App. Still doesn’t appear in my App store… *shrugs*
I can’t see it in the Norwegian appstore either.
I’m having a difficult time finding it too. I’m using an iPhone 4 but I think it shouldn’t matter unless it truly is only optimized for iPhone 5 only, also unlikely… Should it matter where you are geographically.. to me even more unlikely…
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id555936735?mt=8&src=af&ign-mpt=uo%3D6
Followed @angrygry advise .
Pick an AB app in the store
Then related app
End of list
It’s there
Not so easy to find..
I find it curious that the download link to ABF is hidden in such an obscure manner. Perhaps that will change as more people download this app.
Thanks, I searched for “Angry Birds Friends iTunes” in Safari on my iphone and found it that way.
After finishing the tutorial levels you can play 4 levels to show your skills with power-ups (unlimited use)
There are unlimited power-ups, but you can only use 2 of them per level.
To add on to Chris, you can use Wingman along with two of the main four.
Does anyone have information if the stats (or anything related to this game) appear on your wall on Facebook, if you play it on your iPhone?
I don’t have that information, but you can always log on to your Facebook account and switch the privacy settings to “Only Me”
Thanks :)
Angry Birds Toons is coming to ABF as well (search: Twitter)
really? wonderful! :)
Great app again. Like the concept of where you can actually just have a go at the practice levels for Power-Ups.
I really love this app, now I can play weekly tournament on my phone!
But one thing is not good, the wingman button is right under the pause button and I will probably press it by mistake. Would be nice if you could inactivate power-ups.
That’s correct! I wasted two of my five wingman in less than 15 min that way! I think it might have been done on purpouse,so that you waste them and then buy more! Also the leaderboard side bar poping up after every restart is very annoying!
On my android phone, i have the facebook app and its set to remember my user and pw. login to fb friend is seemless.
the wireless where i work isnt the fastest so some of the transitions seem to lag a bit. like @bad-piggies stated, i inadvertantly wasted a wing man because of it.
i will check the lag when at home with faster wifi.
Oops, slight type, I meant AB Friend
But now that I am home, the transitions do seem to be quicker with my faster home wifi. Guessing it needs to sync with a server to keep everything straight between the device and facebook.
I am in the UK, I followed the link from the Rovio newsletter and got it straight away on my SGS3.
I don’t know what my FaceAche settings are, but I would assume they are remembered as login was also flawless for me.
As to info being posted on your wall, I would imagine this is possible as you have the option to “brag” when you pass one of your friends.
It does seem a bit slow to register powerup selection, but other than that it seems fine.
I haven’t played AB:F, but did try facebook when it started out, but found it too slow. I am pleased to see that my previous powerup purchases were there.
For anyone having trouble finding the new Angry Birds app for iOS, here’s what u need to do if u have version 6.x.x and higher: click on any Angry Birds app that u have already bought from the store, go to the tab that says “related” and keep scrolling until u find it.
I’m sad that there are no achievements. :-(
I agree, but what would there for any achievements? There are no real levels.
Things like “Block Smasher” and stuff. That would be easy to keep track of.
I am having a problem with my original iPad running iOS 5. I can play the tutorial but when I go to log into Facebook (which I am already logged in to) it takes me to a blank page then bounces me out of the app. It works fine on my iPhone 5 and mini iPad.
Anyone else having this issue?
Working today after the update…
It’s real fun playing the tournaments. The first time i use Power Ups :-)
I had the log in problem on my ipod ill i did was go to facebook on my ipod and seached for angry birds friends app clicked on it an it opened my app with everything ready to go hope this helps!
Is it weird when I don’t likevthis game? Half of the screen is filled with rubbish. I really love playing AB (all of them), but not this one. Sorry
Are the tournament levels the same as the PC version?
Yes, exactly.
Tutorial Tournament and Power-Up Practice should be on PC.
That’s your opinion.
What is the theme like? Is it the ABo theme, or a new one?
I turn off the music pretty quickly on the games but it sounded the same to me, same as the FB app version.
It’s the ABO theme.
has anyone saw that the pigs have their chrome sprites
What do you mean? In the Chrome browser?
no, in this mobile app
@dr-omega anstee18 means the pigs have the sprites that look like in the AB Chrome
Oh.. wasn’t aware Chrome had different pigs..
Weird.. until the Power-Up tutorial, it never dawned on me to try feeding Wingman Super Seeds. I guess I always just think of him as a Power Up and not a bird.
I feel really stupid about that..
you can also add the king sling to that combo and he is very powerful!
i wonder if it’s 200 coins per account or per device? I will find out in a while, as i have an android phone AND an android tablet “emulator” on my pc.
OR NOT. it doesn’t wanna load in that app on my emulator. Also, I highly suggest you immediately go to applications in settings and move the app to your external memory SD if possible. It takes up almost 60 megs when installed in phone.
OK @amslimfordy i have installed it on multiple platforms. You have to go through the tutorial on each one (of course) but it does not give you multiple coin bonuses. They apparently already thought of this … good to know people can’t install it all over the place and keep getting bonuses!
So far, I LIKE it.
Perfect, just PERFECT! Now I can play tourments on all my devices, buy bird coins in different stores and use it on all devices. This is the best thing from Rovio ever since I’ve been playing their games. Just keep going like that!
Great! That’s it,I have no wingmen left…wasted them all by mistapping PAUSE button…am I the only one who’s done that LOL,hope they will move wingman somewhere else very soon, prior that happening I wont buy that PU,complete waste, bah!
Did that too…
But I don’t use powerups anyway.
Hey… Buy the PU is same via Google Play or AppStore?
@wdewanatha you can buy in any store, depending on device you play. All your IAPs will be shown on all your devices. I used store on FB to buy Bird Coins, then I played on my iPad and used coins to buy power ups packages. Everything stays same when I log in with my android phone. Isn’t that awesome?
Hmm… It’s very good if i buy any PU on IAP. But, buy the BirdCoins is differrent… Via FB Credit…
Had trouble locating the AngryBirdsFriends app in the iTunes store. By recommendation of a number of people on this thread, I just went to one of my other AngryBirds apps and looked for the Angry Birds Pop-up to come up and used that to access and download AngryBirdsFriends. No issue. I had no problems connecting it to my Facebook account and my current games came up on my iPhone. One issue I realized is that because of the game’s connection to Facebook, you have to be connected to Wifi/Internet in order to play AngryBirdsFriends Tournament. (Although you don’t have to be connected to do the tutorials). For AngryBirds-Seasons/Rio/Space/StarWars, you don’t need to be connected. I have a limited data plan on my iPhone, so I only connect to the 3G/4G/Wifi when I need to in order to keep my costs down.
I’m not sure what the issue is, Ed. This is clearly stated in the app’s description.
Ed this is actually an online game on the Facebook. Rovio made it into a mobile app so mobile users can play AB Friends on the go, but it will need an internet connection.

I have a question. Can i Enter the scores from my Angry Birds Friends Mobile here in Angry Birds Facebook? I have to wait until next week before i can Enter the Tournaments Scores of this week? Right? Are that the Levels from 2nd to 8th May?
@CC-Jolly The current tournament will end this coming Sunday. You can enter your scores on the Tournament leaderboard, which is linked in the post.
Tranks @amslimfordy
So i will add them next week. So the actually 6 Tournament Levels can be entered next week with the Date 2nd May (Release Date)?
The current levels are from week of April 28.
Oh dear so i haven’t Enter my scores. Can i find my last weeks scores again. Or are they deleted?
@all — Not sure I’ll play AB Friends on mobile. But if you are playing and find any self-destroying or unstable levels, please post details in forum on self-destroying and unstable levels, and I will add them to list.
I have a question…for those of us that pride ourselves on not using PU’s on all AB episodes…Is that the same for this new Friends and the tournament leader board? I realize it is a personal preference and @amslimfordy stated the use of legit PU’s are allowed on the tourney leaderboard but should I assume that people that don’t use PU’s on regular AB games are not using them on this new Friends either? Should I also assume people that choose not to use PU’s won’t likely win the tourneys as the top scores on the tournament leaderboard are with PU’s? Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!
It would indeed be hard to earn the top spot without power ups, but you can usually beat the average playing “clean”.
@lesleyg – I have been thinking about these issues myself. I know a person who never ever used powerups in any of the AB games before, but decided he had to use them in AB Friends. Otherwise, it is impossible to compete on the ABN leaderboard, moreover, it is not possible to beat averages. Because this person is my only friend on Facebook with whom I can compete, I am thinking about using PUs with this game myself. I haven’t started yet, but he is working hard convincing me to do so. So far, I finished all six levels without PUs and entered my non-PU score on the leaderboard here. This is my observations so far: 1) you can certainly 3-star all the levels without PUs; 2) you can beat the averages on levels 1 and 2, but probably not the rest (though I am going to try some more before I start using PUs); 3) Level 2 is probably the only one you can get a good score without PUs and compete with those who use PUs. So, I was able to beat my Facebook competitor on level 2, and I am close to beating him on level 1 (I have 158910 without PUs and he has 160k with PUs, so I am close). But then the fun ends: without using at least Wingman I cannot compete on the rest of the levels of this week’s tournament, and without the competition it is not so much fun anymore.
Something else I would like to say. The way the ABN leaderbord for the weekly tournament is set up now, it makes practically no sense for those of us who just started playing it (but never played before) to enter the scores here. First, without previous weeks scores, you will never see how well you are doing compared to others, and secondly, you cannot see how good your non-PU scores are. @amslimfordy do you think it would be possible to set up a separate leaderboard that would start from this week’s levels, and make it a “no-PU” one. This way, those who played the tournaments from the beginning would continue to use the old leaderboard, but those of us who only play the mobile app and don’t like to use PUs will use the new separate leaderboard?
Would have to talk to @BirdLeader.
I kind of think forking the leaderboard now the app is out is a good idea, but I am less sure on the idea of forking the PU/NPU scores alone (although in this case it is for the adding of NPU scores whereas every other version would be adding PU scores).
I am pretty much a NPU person, but I have given AB:F special dispensation.
The issue there is that it’s pure honor. There’s no distinction between N/PU scores.
I don’t think a third leaderboard is needed. New users could use the original leaderboard, but it needs to be reorganized in such a way that each week is separated and has its own total. @Birdleader what do you think? The way the leaderboard is set up now, with the total for the whole tournament, those users who just started playing are not able to compete.
Thank you to all for your feedback!!!
@annach you make some spot on points. I have only entered scores so far for level 1 and 2 because I was able to get above average on those with out PU’s. I haven’t played the others enough yet to know if “above average” is a possibility on the remaining 4, however based on your feedback, I see that it’s not likely….which is excatly why I started this thread, to see how others would handle it.
I also agree with the issue of the current leaderboard not reflecting differently for those of us that are just getting started. I wish it would start off “fresh” for those of us playing the mobile version. Our overall ranking will be completely off. I really like the idea of a seperate leaderboard…One that would start with this current week. What do you think @birdleader?
As for the seperate leaderboard allowing for PU/NPU’s, well that will need to be the admins call of course. I think I would be ok with either. It’s kinda like what’s fair for one is fair for all…Just on the Friends leaderboard of course!!!! We must continue to keep them OFF the other epsisodes!!! I played around with some for fun, resetting my level before the score had a chance to enter and they were kinda fun!
If a new leaderboard should come into play, starting with this current week as our first tournament week that would be awesome. If this should happen and the admins allow for PU’s then perhaps us NPU people could just use them ONLY for the Friends episode and continue to NOT use them on all other apps. On the other hand, if that new leaderboard does happen and the admins decide to post the same caution as in the other episodes that says “Please don’t enter scores using PU’s then that would be that, the same honor system that is in play for all of the other episodes!
At the end of the day, if the one leaderboard remains as is, with all previous weeks included and PU’s welcomed, then it really makes no sense to try and compete because as already pointed out… with out the past weeks totaled in, we will never be up to par with those that have been playing all along. Ofcourse we can still play for fun and compete on a weekly basis but for us score and ranking junkies, it kinda stinks.
Thanks again for your feedback everyone ;-)
Sorry for the slow reply here.
Creating a separate, Power-Up free, leaderboard is a great idea. It would be difficult to moderator, but once our new notification system is working properly it might be feasible. The new notification system would notify you (if you opted in) when someone passed your “Top Score”. Not only will this up the competitiveness, it will make it easier to police the leaderboards.
Breaking out by week is also a great idea, but the structure of the current leaderboard system does not allow it. I do plan on building this in, but it’s not imminent.
Right now, my suggestion would be to just enter your scores for the weeks you can play. I know it’s impossible to reach the top spot on the overall boards, but at least your scores will be there when we do have a solution in place.
cc. @lesleyg, @annach, @amslimfordy, @chriss
Well, this is a work in progress, but as soon as I left that comment I had a lightbulb go off. Why not make the Friends Tournament it’s own edition? Duh! That’s what it is anyhow.
So, I’ve disabled entry on the Angry Birds Facebook leaderboard, and created a dedicated Angry Birds Friends one that will be … wait for it … broken out by weeks:
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/leaderboard/friends-tournament-2013/
Go enter you scores now!
cc. @lesleyg, @annach, @amslimfordy, @chriss
Yeah!!! Thank you @birdleader !!! I’ve been away in in training but am just now finding your reply…For some reason I didn’t and haven’t received this notification? I just came here to check if any more input was made. Now I must go play the levels and enter my scores!!! Thanks again for taking such good care of us ;-D
But then a third leaderboard would be needed for those who just started playing and DO USE power-ups.
@chriss – my comment above was meant as a reply to you, but I hit the wrong “reply” button. I suggest to use the original leaderboard, but to set it up so that each week is separate and has its own total.
That’s a good idea.
Nice app. I had a long time of not playing AB Friends, and now I have 128 King Sling? Well that’s the weird part, but overall it’s great.
