Angry Birds Space Origins: The Story

Earlier today Nickelodeon aired an animated short called, “Angry Birds Space Origins”, which tells the story about how the Angry Birds came to find themselves in space. It’s definitely worth watching. For those who can’t see the video above be sure to read the full story below, which appears on page 7 of the National Geographic Angry Birds Space Book: A Furious Flight into the Final Frontier. A big thanks to Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio for allowing us to republish this story.

A quick note, I was NOT asked to plug this book, but it really is neat.  First off, as you’d expect from such talented people, it’s gorgeous. But this book has brains to back up its beauty.  It’s 158 pages broken into four chapters. It’s full of information on space and is filled with amazing facts, anecdotes, and stories that both adults and kids will find interesting. For example, did you know that, “Almost all of the solar systems mass — 99.8% — is found in the sun?”

Now on to the story of how the Angry Birds found themselves locked in a intergalactic battle…

On a remote island lives a group of Angry Birds who share a common purpose: to stop green pigs from stealing and devouring their eggs.  One faithful afternoon after the pigs absconded to their fortress with stolen eggs, the birds attacked, saving the eggs and demolishing the stronghold.  Then, a huge vortex opened up in the sky.  Out of the hole flew a strange bird shaped like an ice cube.  With him was a glowing egg.  Clearly they were not from this world!

As the birds and pigs stared skyward, a huge metallic arm emerged from the vortex, snatched the glowing egg, and retreated into the darkness.  Evil laughter echoed over the island.  The alien bird chased them back into the wormhole, which began to close.  As the vortex shrank, the Angry Birds noticed that their eggs were too gone!  Without a moment’s hesitation they flung themselves into the wormhole just before it shut.  At the end of the swirling space tunnel, the Angry Bids found themselves dressed like superheroes on a strange new planet.  They saw strange piggies escaping farther into space with their eggs.

From Mercury to the Milky Way, space holds an infinite number of hiding places for the piggies.  How will the Angry Birds ever save their precious eggs?  By learning all they can about space in order to track down the alien pigs and rescue their eggs. Follow the Angry Birds on their latest adventure as they make new friends and gather “Space Data” and amazing “Astrofacts” about planets, stars, space exploration, galaxies, and the worlds beyond, in a daring rescue mission that will take them across the galaxy.  Only then will they be able to take on the pigs, retrieve their eggs, and head back home.

So there you have it.  If you were not lucky enough to catch the animated short today or don’t have cable, you can now consider yourself in-the-know.

Just a few more hours now…

Now that was a cute video. Informative on how Space came to be.
This past weekend some one asked me “what is angry birds all about”. Videos like this provide the data to explain in an intelligent manner the story behind the game.
