Latest Rovio Stars Game ‘Juice Cubes’ is Out Now! We’ve Got All the Info, Tips, and Strategies

The addictive fruit popping game Juice Cubes is now available for iOS and Android! The game comes courtesy of Rovio Stars — Rovio’s third-party publishing company — and is developer Pocket PlayLab. The game is completely free to download, so either search your App Store or try rov.io/juicecubes. The app will be appearing on Facebook in the near future as well!

The backstory is that the welfare of these adorable, wide-eyed fruity cubes is being threatened by an evil island blender… and I can’t help but to chuckle while writing that. Anyways, pass the levels or condemn the fruit to a blade-spinning fate!

The gameplay is a spin on the oh-so-popular game Candy Crush (aka, candy-themed Bejeweled). But instead of swapping two items to create rows or columns of three or more of the same candy, in Juice Cubes we connect three or more cubes / fruits in any direction desired. You can connect horizontally, vertically, or diagonally! Strings of three fruit is the minimum.

Tip! Let’s talk! Share your tips, tricks, hints, strategies and more in our new forum topic!

General Info

  • The initial release (which is v1.07.12) features over 165 levels spread across several maps! All levels are chronological, it appears.
  • Objectives include: Score thresholds, clearing sand blocks, dropping buckets off the bottom of the screen, and time-capped score thresholds. There are even more objectives still, but this gives you an idea of some of the early requirements.
  • 5 regenerating hearts count your lives. Fail to earn a star and you lose a heart, which will take 20 minutes to return. You also lose a heart if you chose exit a level.
  • Gold Bars are the in-game currency. These can be earned in normal gameplay or purchased with cold hard cash.
  • Lots of boosters, unlockables, and in-app purchases are available. These include increasing your heart meter from 5 to 8, freezing time in the time-capped speed levels, extra moves, starting with “explosive fruit”, and more.

Tips and Tricks

  • Strings of 3 fruit simply disappear for a few points. Strings of 4-7 fruit creates “explosive fruit“. Strings of 8+ fruit creates a powerful “fruit sandwich“! Activate the special fruit’s power by connecting it in a normal 3+ string, or by swapping with any other special tile.
  • In a string of 4+ fruit, the special fruit is always the last one in the string. So it may be worthwhile to undo your selection (simply trace your path backwards) and reverse the order, if it will put two bombs next to each other.
  • In strings of 4-7 fruit, how you end your string determines the bomb type:
    • End moving vertically: The bomb will clear the entire column when activated.
    • End moving horizontally: The bomb will clear the entire row when activated.
    • End moving diagonally: The bomb will clear all immediately-adjacent fruit when activated.
  • A fruit sandwich bomb in a string of 3+ (say) strawberries will clear every strawberry on-screen.
  • There is no cascading effect, so it is worthwhile on “pure score” levels to leave as many “explosive fruit” as possible for the very end. An exception might be combining two explosive fruits to clear out massive areas.
  • In the sand-removal or bucket-dropping levels, you are nearly guaranteed three stars if you can complete the objective with 2+ moves remaining. Don’t worry so much about saving explosive fruit on this one. For each extra move you have in the bank, you earn 3000 points AND an explosive fruit appears in the grid.

Our Coverage

There isn’t much in terms of strategies or walkthroughs that can be done for Juice Cubes, since the alignment of fruit will vary greatly between tries. However, we will cover news-related items such as bug-fix and map-addition updates right here on AngryBirdsNest.

Suggestions, Bugs, and Miscellany

  • I humbly suggest delaying the “hint” a bit longer. As is, the game suggests a move (usually a simply 3-fruit string) after about 3 seconds of inactivity. It can be very distracting, especially when the level first loads and you’re looking for a sweet 8-fruit combo!
  • As is the major complaint with Candy Crush, the “pay to continue” premise meet most users with disappointment. (Level 20)

I think I’m going to pass… I have already experienced the addictiveness of Candy Crush…

Glad to know comments are working. :) This game definitely breaks the mold from what we’re used to. As you, I just wish we wouldn’t have to dig into our wallets so much. It’s super fun, except for that.

Yeah, remember the good ole’ days when you could buy a full game experience for just it’s suggested price?

Its a good game to play but once the levels gets tougher and harder to get 3 stars, that’s it for me. I”m not used to these kinda games like Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes, Saga, Pet Rescue, etc…fun at first for awhile then I eventually I get bored of them after about 50 levels or so and give up once levels gets harder to get 3 stars.

The other Rovio games besides Angry Birds (did try Bad Piggies but gave up as it didn’t interest me much).

I’m more of a Angry Birds fan :p

I’m a bit hesitant on playing this one. just as @angryminecraft said, these games can get really addicting sometimes. Heck, I’ve been playing candy crush for only 2 weeks and I’m already on level 102. Also, looking off of the screenshots, many things/ideas were “stolen” from candy crush, such as the lives system and gold bars. And just a question, after level 20, is it possible to get to level 21 by doing quests, using gold, or asking facebook friends like in candy crush?

Another thing i forgot to add, I am highly affected to clash of clans, but when my friend introduced me to samurai siege, which is basically Japanese style clash of clans, i hated it. So i really dont have high hopes for spin-offs, especially when the games are nearly identical. I like going with the original.

As I said in News & Rumours forum that’s really an odd addition to the Rovio Stars roster. This game is available (in my country) for a long time, and now they just change publisher (all comments and downloads remained).

I thought this initiative was for new games that have troubles with reaching a lot of people (marketing). This game has already more than 500 000 downloads only on Android.

Pocket PlayLab has another game: Lost Cubes. But it’s not from Rovio Stars.

Well, I also wanted to make connections (full post in forum), meanwhile paid the two bucks to progress. Now I hit level 73 which is impossible without purchasing a lot of boosters. I don’t mind paying a bit in games but that would be too much. The selection mechanics make this game much better than the usual gem/candy/fruit swappers and I am very disappointed I won’t be able to progress further.

I’m already at level 95. And I refuse to spend money on games. It just takes a lot of play to beat a hard level. Usually when I have to wait for map pieces I go back and try for all 3 stars on levels I barely passed or try to surpass my Facebook friends high scores. It’s a pretty fun game. And I’m glad I get to take breaks from just trying for higher levels really fast. So far I am top score and 3 star on all but about 10. And I have some tough competition with friends and family who have been playing longer than me:)

Have downloaded it & played for the last couple of hours as I’m in bed with sinus infection! Have three starred up to level 35 & now the game is asking to spend money to move on or ask facebook friends to help! A good diversion for a while as I’m done on all AB levels, Piggies etc etc – now back to concentrating on the ABSW2 update

Downloaded the game and play about the first 50 levels. It is fun and diverse from the regular AB games. Provides a nice break from strategy development and fine tuning the eye-hand coordinator. But quick eyes are needed to spot the cube line.

Found the levels based on time to be a bit challenging to obtain 3-stars.

The game does not fip with an iPad like AB games. It would be nice if the developers would add that feature because of the iPad plug gets in the way when one is holding it or if table space is narrow.

Overall, enjoyable and entertaining game to play.

I don’t understand what the incentive is to play this game. Your not rewarded with anything and they want you to spend your money to move past level 36 or promote there game by having people on face lol send you gold. So here’s another game where they want you to do all the work for them and you get nothing return. G

@AMslimfordy, one error above, ending a string of 4 to 7 will later clear out the ROW not the column. AND a Question, did you or any one else get to level 73 where progressing piles of sand appear and eat the board. I accidentally made them stop once but cannot figure out what I did.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

@grammyK The direction that you end a 4-7 string will determine whether you clear a row, column, or box. This is explained in 3rd bullet in Tricks & Tips.

And no, I stopped playing at the first “pay to play” road block.

Yes, check your bullet, second point says column, should be row.

OK, somehow I got enough gold bars (8) to unlock the second level, up to and including #35. I have 3* on all levels now. But no way to earn more gold bars! Unless, there is a way, and I don’t know it – does anyone have an idea?
My suggestions, if anybody Up There is listening:

(Dear Rovio)

1. I do like the game. But like AB, we should be able to get to the next levels for free if we 3* everything. I don’t mind buying the game, but please don’t force us to pay to continue.

2. The “timing” episodes are extremely difficult – the game is difficult enough on an iphone (I can imagine it must be a LOT easier on an ipad). I would vote to take out the timing levels, which were the bane of my existence in AB Red’s Mighty Feathers. This is why I quit Candy Crush Saga

3. I am very grateful for the explanation here of how things blow up (i.e., what happens depends on which direction your finger moves in, I did not get that on my own). But I have gotten several “electrical storms” that just about clear the entire field. I’m not sure what causes that; it would be nice if there was a help box that explained all of the special bomb-bomb combinations and their outcomes.

So, unless there’s a way to get free gold bars, like so many in this forum, I guess I’m done with the game. :(

Oh well, back to today’s ABN Challenge :)

YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY TO CONTINUE!!!

I’m on Level 102 and haven’t spent a cent.

At the end of a quest you have options…get gold from a friend, buy gold, or SEARCH. You need to search at least three times to get the necessary three map pieces. Once you have them, another group of islands appear. I believe it takes eight hours to complete a Search.

If you run out of lives…or Hearts…they’ll eventually replenish automatically. You’ll see a counter that counts the hours/minutes/seconds til you have a full load of hearts. Sometimes the wait is hours, other times it’s minutes.

Hope this helps.

By Alex2001

OK i enjoyed the game so I actually paid for the next set of levels. I found it STILL timed out on me where I had to wait 10 or 15 minutes before I could resume play. Are you kidding me? For levels I paid to play?!

Also, I can’t find leader boards anywhere, even their facebook page. I can’t get three stars on level 46 with a score of 23,860. Am I even getting close? There is no way to know.

By Jellybear

After a lot of struggling I got 3 stars at level 46 with 26130 points… But it was just barely, so I guess the 3 star limit is at 25k or 26k points.

But there’s so far no other level where I’ve needed that many attempts before reaching 3 stars.

I cant 3 star level 46. Can anybody post a walkthrough video?

By Reachground

I’ve probably done it about 50-100 times and just can’t get three stars. Any suggestions?

By Reachground

I got 24k and still not 3 stars. Probably 25k to get it. Does anyone know what combinations get the most points?

By Anca

I have juice cubes on my Ipad and I am waiting for the update that will let me to search the maps. Do you know when it will be release? Another problem I have is: I can’ t connect to facebook, it says: verify internet connection, and this problem is from the first day I got the game, 2 weeks ago.

New update; heart recharge time became 30 minutes.
The way to continue without FB support; exploring for a map piece. Costs 8 hours.

By Becky

It costs 8 hours, per map, and you need three maps. That’s if you don’t get a sandal or other piece of trash instead. Then you have to repeat the search. It cost me 40 hours to progress one time. Now I’m on level 73, and like someone else mentioned, there’s no way to beat that level without paying for the bonus features. Guess I’ll be uninstalling and sticking to the free games I already have.

By Marye

Am stuck on level 73! Been there for hours and wiil un-install very soon tonight…stopped being fun and challenging…now just a frustrating game.

By Marye

P.s. any suggestions to getting past level 73?

By Daniel Tills

I’m on level 80 now, and have not paid a penny to progress. Yes, I’ve had the boring 8 hour (x 3!) map searches a couple of times now. That’s where I’m at now – waiting for a new map. You CAN pass the hideous level 73 without any extra help – I did it. There are a few other horrid levels that took me a couple of days to figure out.
My worst enemies are the sand castles which guzzle up adjacent fruits (AND hard-earned bombs! It hurts a LOT to see you fruit sandwich disappear in a nano-second by one of those guys!).
Top tip: sometimes the scallop shells protect you from the advance of the sand castles, so, don’t destroy them. They act like a wall / barrier.
Another tip: If you can, get rid of ALL the sand castles as soon as you can. Then you can relax and think carefully about sandwich bomb production! On some levels, the rapidly advancing sand castles apply more pressure than a timed level countdown!
I have never played Candy Crush or Angry Birds so cannot compare / comment on those. I only just started gaming and finding it very addictive!
Just one observation: aren’t spoilers / hint pages / cheats EXACTLY that? That is: spoiling the challenge and cheating?

By Juice Cubes Mania

What do I need to do to get 3 stars on level 46? I have a target of 20,320, but have no idea of the criteria for 3 stars.
Thanks

By Desire

I use my ipad and droi phalet to play, but the don’t sync well. I used 3 bars on the map phase, but on the ipad it doesn’t recognize I have any bars and I’m still stuck after a force stop and update of both devices.

Level 73 is simple. Wait until you get to the 200s! Also I have not paid a dime and am at the end of 260. The only thing that sucks is now I have to wait at least 72 hours to get three pieces of the map. Anyone any further? Just wait till you have the ever evolving sand piles and bombs. Good luck!
