Just curious, when I look at my GC scores, they are almost 7 mil higher compared to my scores here, and the difference does not match up with my Golden Eggs scores. My episode scores all match, so GC is counting something we are not counting here. I seem to remember this explained in the past but I can’t remember.
I also was gone from these message boards for a while due to remodeling work. I know Slim was getting married, just have not seem him as active in these messages. Is he still part of the admin team?

GC is notoriously buggy and inaccurate. The only level that we left out, as far as I can tell, is the special “Red Golden Egg”. So your leaderboard totals here are probably the most accurate.

@sal9 thanks for the reply. I know in the past the GC was used to check for possible fraud, but my GC scores are almost 7 mil higher compared to here, yet all episode scores in GC match up as far as total score per episode reported in the game, and here on abN. I am not sure where they get the extra 7 mil from.

I don’t think it’s the Golden Eggs or this specific one. That one is only 3.6 mil at max and the difference is 7 mil, and 7 mil more. We don’t count Golden Eggs here as part of the leaderboards, but my GE total does not match up to the difference. I seem to remember this being discussed in the past but can’t remember the specifics.

Rank: Boss Hog with 14310 points
By Pointdexter5 (@pointdexter5)

Maybe it’s the total GE scores after all. i verified all my GE scores and they match between GC and aBN. when I subtract my ABN score from the GC score, the difference is the 7 mil I was talking about and my GE score is within 4 points of that score. Can’t find those 4 missing points anywhere, but all my scores match for every GE where points are to be gained.

Which ones specifically? I often see high scores or top 10 scores way ahead of the typical top players, without much detail, no strategies, or only screenprints taken after the fact. The latter are pointless and does not prove anything.
You can guess how I feel about those scores based on that, but I typically aim to have my scores around the ones of people who I deem respectable. I guess even some of those could be Lance-Armstronging the boards, but I guess I hope most are honest. No honor in cheating a silly game.

@pointdexter5, I think that Dr O is underscoring that player’s high top-10 ranking for every level in that episode. If those rankings are legitimate, it is an awesome performance. I agree with @steviep147 that such achievements are suspect if they do not come with detailed explanations in the walkthroughs. I also agree with you that posting bogus scores is a lame way to build self sesteem. I choose to ignore unreasonably high scores as outliers and to focus on the top ten scores and the average in any one level as the best indicator of what is possible.

I gave up up on AB with all the changes in the basicis of the game some months ago Levels I played for months to acheive a good score on can now be beaten within a few tries. I know I still development my skils but it’s not fun when Rovio change everything. So for me the leaderboards are dead. I don’t look at them as they don’t sat anything. I stoped to update any score here due to that but what’s been written here by others convince me even more that it’s no use with this leaderboards.

Rank: Boss Hog with 14310 points
By Pointdexter5 (@pointdexter5)

Yeah, I’m convinced several top scores on levels are achieved by use of power-ups, and the only thing we can do is flag them. It would have been nice if separate scores were kept for original gameplay versus power-ups, but that is not in the interest of Rovio.

I think the admins do as much as they can to keep things honest around here, and the rest is up to the members, as to police the boards and keep false scores out. I don’t believe screenshots, unless they are from reputable players and/or captured during gameplay. After the fact captured screen prints are meaningless.

Rank: Boss Hog with 14970 points

I understand @ernor63‘s frustration and disappointment with some of the changes. But, I look at it this way: There are many who started playing ABO (and Seasons, Rio) years before others, having the advantage of many glitches latecomers will never have. Also, some people simply have much more time to fling than others do. So, I never considered leaderboard position to be the ultimate measure of a player’s skill anyway. In the end, we are all playing more or less the same game, even with levels changing now and then.

BTW, while recently playing some of the older levels and noticing some levels being easier (especially Chuck’s ability to penetrate wood), I also noticed there are a number of levels that are no longer unstable that still were not so long ago.

I normally don’t post here, just on individual levels, but last week’s conversation struck home for me. I’m the relative newcomer who’s taking advantage of recent changes. In the last few weeks, I’ve posted 7 top ten scores in the first 12 levels of Birdday Party. That’s way beyond the norm for me and it’s very obvious that the levels are now easier. But that leaves me a dilemma, to share or not to share? I’m very frustrated at the many levels that are now-harder or now-stable where I’m permanently stuck with mediocre scores, so it seems fair to me to just post my high scores and let others grumble about how I did it, legit or not. Others have certainly taken that path leading to some of the discussion last week. I’ve elected to go the other way and share any and all new info I find due to the countless levels where I’ve improved my scores from others sharing. It’s cost me. My +9K top score on 27-9 lasted less than a week before the mockingbird took it away. I’m quite okay with that as: 1) I’m just out to maximize my own scores and use the leaderboards just to see how I’m doing and, 2) my credibility matters way more to me than my number of top scores.

My two cents from the newbie.

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8970 points

Chuckle. And I see @vuelva has already taken my two top scores on Birdday Party. Well done, and thanks. I have many scores that are now much higher due to your most helpful commentaries.

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8970 points
By grrtammy (@grrtammy)

And following up with a different comment/question. I posted this on a level but perhaps there’s a broader audience here. Has anyone ever asked Rovio if they can provide a Score Reader app? This would just read the contents of highscores.lua and display the data in a suitable format. Something like this would probably take less than an hour for a hotshot Rovio coder to program and I would pay a dollar for it in a heartbeat. For me personally I would use it regularly to verify my legit high score when I look to improve on a level rather than having to toggle back and forth to my Excel database (thanks again @amslimfordy!) For the leaderboard community, it would be a definitive answer to questionable scores. Post a screenshot of the Score Reader and be done.

And for those asking, I purchased and used RMF (hey, it was for charity) before I joined ABN so I have dozens of levels showing RMF-enhanced high scores and, lacking Score Reader, I have to carefully manage a separate database to make sure my leaderboard scores are all legit. Pain in the behind.

Rank: Master Slinger with 6530 points
By ernor63 (@ernor63)

What is RMF and RMF-enhanced high scores?

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8970 points
By grrtammy (@grrtammy)

Sorry. RMF = Red’s Mighty Feather. It was a charity sale that Rovio had about a year and a half ago. Donate a dollar to their charity (I don’t recall what it was at the moment) and you get a free Red’s Mighty Feather bird to use any time, any level, as often as you want. Only one use per play.

For many levels it’s just an extra 10K score. For stone, it’s basically useless. However, there are quite a few levels where you can do some really cool different strategies with the ability to aim the bird into cracks and crannies that are normally inaccessible. I played around with it for a while before joining ABN so now I have lots of levels with, um, enhanced scores that I have to keep track of since I can’t get rid of the enhanced scores and my database is the only way I can keep track of legitimate scores.

@ernor63 I disabled PUs and and any crap from the moment they were released. I just keep flinging, sharing strategies and if I take screen-shots, they are in-game, where you can see the path of the birds, as well as the fact that the junk is turned off. That’s the only way to do it in my opinion. My honor is more important than having high scores on the board. I have a few, and if they get beaten, no big deal. Just like you, I know who the players are to try to match my scores too. I’m sure you would be in the top 10 too on this board if you entered your scores, so it’s unfortunate you are no longer actively tracking them here. But I appreciate your comments on many levels, as well as any other comments by flingers to help others improve their scores.

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8810 points
By jwgardenwiz (@jwgardenwiz)

@ernor63, @bonneypattycat, @pointdexter5, et al., there seem to be two schools of thought: 1) the only way to play is the style of the original AB and 2) use whatever advantages the game allows. I’m “on the fence”. I have yet to use a Power Up except for the introduction of the shock wave bird which had to be used and when I accidentally tap the screen in the wrong spot and even then I immediately restart. I collect PUs every day because I cannot turn down anything that’s free but I just let them accumulate. I will take advantage of self-destructs and instabilities but I won’t buy a score. As for taking screenshots of trajectories of each bird, that would be nice but I never know in advance when my strategies will pay off. Usually I am just too surprised and excited to capture anything but the “total score” screen. At best all that I can do is provide the details in text in the walkthroughs for those few levels where I do have a top score. I know enough about statistics to know when a score is not-to-be-believed without an accompanying explanation so I just shoot for the scores of the established high-flyers.

Rank: Boss Hog with 14970 points
By bonneypattycat (@bonneypattycat)

@jwgardenwiz I am on the side of the fence where no power ups exist. The concept of having to constantly pay to be competing is ridiculous. I wouldn’t mind paying for updates, but no way am I going to be nickeled and dimed with in-game purchases.

I also have never bothered with saving and loading old versions to take advantage of an old glitch or instability, or a level that was once easier to score high for any reason. I know a number of top players do that, but oh well. No point in fretting over that.

And then there are players who use different devices, whichever can more easily produce a higher score. Again not for me, but I do not begrudge those who do.

So again, I do not consider leaderboard position to be the full measure of a player’s skill, not when there are so many other factors than simply pulling a bird back in the sling, aim, release, activate as needed. If only it could be so simple ;)

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8810 points
By jwgardenwiz (@jwgardenwiz)

@bonneypattycat I also wish that PUs were never introduced but there is no going back. It’s now a matter of coexisting with players who use them. I think that it can be done. As for saving older versions — I didn’t know that was possible — and using different platforms, that just speaks to a player’s motivation to excel. I wouldn’t do it but I admire the zeal of those that do.

Rank: Boss Hog with 14310 points

@jwgardenwiz, I never received any free birds or anything outside of the regular birds, but I disabled PUs the moment they were introduced. Maybe that is the difference. Nothing was offered or accumulated outside of the standard gameplay.

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8970 points
By grrtammy (@grrtammy)

@jwgardenwiz, Well, I guess I’m a third school. I’m quite fine with the ABN leaderboard standard of absolutely no Power Ups and I strictly adhere to it. On the other hand, I also enjoy experimenting when a PU offers a completely different approach to a level. In my opinion, the standard four (like you, I have about 500) are pretty useless for skilled players and I fat-fingered away all my Shock Waves in short order. RMF, however, offers different strategies on a lot of levels. The operative word here is “fun.” I have fun competing fairly on ABN leaderboards and I also have fun with RMF. It’s a pain having to keep two sets of books, so to speak, but I manage.

@bonneypattycat, I agree with you on pay-to-play. No way I’m going to buy more Shock Waves, no matter how interesting, but RMF was a one time charitable donation and now it’s effectively free.

But I still enjoy playing by the old rules and competing with the old hands (though not as old as me) like Dr Oneski, bonneypattycat, pointdexter, et. al. And I’m very sorry if I got any of those names wrong.

@whoosher you are never too old to learn. To take a screenshot on your iPad, just press and hold the home button on the face of the iPad and ,while the button is still pressed, also press the power button on the opposite edge. You should hear an old time camera ‘click’ and whatever is on the screen will now be the last picture in your photo album. So, you are the one who kt me from claiming ‘Jim’ as a screen name!

Thanks. Of course I’m always astonished when I get a high score and then it”s too late to react. Don’t know how I preempted you on Jim since you became a member before me.

@ernor63 @bonneypattycat
And everyone else who’s commented.

I will always enter my scores. I never use PUs. I’ll share a good strategy. Not many, unfortunately. Complement others on theirs.

Ignore the cheats, be polite – and have I learnt that recently, there is no point in challenging a score posted by a rude, arrogant flinger, however good he might be, – just enjoy your flinging, and help others out.

I’m not a great Flinger, but good on my day,

And I enjoy seeing scores from players that I know are legit and top scorers in the leaderboards (@ernor63)

It’s a game after all, and there are some wonderful and lovely people here

Forgot to add. Beating a score by @ernor63 and some of the other greatest flingers is the best AB feeling. Ever!
Please keep posting scores

Those who have not already done so may want to check ou @bonneypattycat s list of easier levels. Ther’s a link to it on her post under the first level of Birdday Party.

Indeed thanks @bonneypattycat for listing those levels. Have had some fun with these the past week.

@pointdexter5 You are welcome! Check the list often, I added a few levels yesterday mostly from Bad Piggies where Orange bird is used and others. And if you find any levels that might be added, please let me know.

Does anyone use an iPhone 6 plus? I normally use an iPad but I notice that when playing on this 6+ the birds shake when in the catapult making it difficult to be exact. Doesn’t happen on an iPhone 6 or iPad.

When I used my dad’s iphone 6+ to play, I every once in a while experienced some lack of stability. This was frustrating, but it wasn’t super often. I’m currently trying to chase down Murash #1 spot in poached eggs, and I would say using the 6+ helped me more than hindered.

@asher I was just looking through the score boards. I see that you haven’t actually entered scores on a number of levels. I’m curious!

Well, nothing strange. I still have to play the levels :-)
I am going slowly, taking at least one day for each level (when I am lucky) and up to … I don’t want to think about it.

A situation has arisen. All my scores have disappeared from my iPad. I got a message, sign in problem please try later. Now it’s later and all my numbers are still zero. Is something going on with Rovio? I’m definitely not going to start over!

I saw your post and checked my connection. It said I was signed in as GUEST. So, just exit the sign-in board and say yes to all the prompts. Sign in again and it will work.

OK scores are back. Whew! It was scary for a while there. There must have been some sign in hiccup.

Well done. Sorry to spoil the party, but I have to say that I enjoyed the competition. I think I´ve added something like 80K since Rovio started changing the levels before the summer. If not: I still think that Murash´score would`ve been unbeatable.

So it would seem that Rovio have changed their advertising policy. Instead of annoying us all with ads promoting AB stuff, which is obviously faultering, we are now being annoyed with this tosh.

Still, ads are better than in-app purchases to compete. They gotta make money somehow to stay in business :/

Agreed BPC. I normally just switch off my wifi before I start the game. Rovio make enough cash me thinks. Getting a bit greedy with these IAP’s. I won’t ever download AB 2 as long as this is happening. They should just charge a reasonable amount for the game and have done. Finding it difficult to improve any score on any level in ABO. Unless a new level comes into being I’m stuck.

I honestly don’t see them–I double tap reset so they’re just a blur. I didn’t know there were 15 new levels of Flock Favorites till I noticed that my ranking had dropped way down.

Anybody else having problems with the dates of the posts?? I’ve had this issue with my iPhone before but now it’s affected my iPad?? Seems to have started after my OS9 update.

Well this is really weird… The dates are back as soon as I posted. Strange??

Rank: Master Slinger with 7215 points

Duh… I’m getting my too old I guess. I just answered my own question. The problem is not being signed in. The dates are viewable only while signed in. This site always kept me signed in even after closing Safari. But not since the OS update. OK. I’ll learn.

@pjdambra Thank you for answering your own question, this way others will know why it happens. As for iOS9 and signing you out… maybe your privacy settings are upped in the new iOS (Sorry I myself am one to wait for a third or forth update after a major one)?

My least favourite person at the moment is Shakira! Her adverts are very annoying.
