If you think a score was incorrectly entered or someone might be cheating (not common) you can flag it. The “Confirmation” is the mechanism by which the flag request is submitted to us.

Really? I don’t find it that challenging or time-consuming, but then again I am biased. If there was a way to do it automatically, trust me, I would build it.

highscores.lua seems to be a plain text file. Would it be possible for us to upload that file?

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points
By Bird Leader (@birdleader)

It is on PC / Android, so it could be possible via those platforms. It’s encrypted on the Mac and iOS devices, so unless it can be unencrypted it’s not feasible. That said, it is still not 100% guaranteed that these scores are accurate, as one could just edit the file. It would make adding scores much more seamless, so it is definitely worth exploring.

Bird Leader is right, but what about Game Center support for auto-score-filling. In other words, to automatically sync your scores, you enter your Game Center account? Sounds promising, yet easier said than done, so I wouldn’t know.

Boy I’d love to see something like that, but I highly doubt we’d be able to do something like that soon or even ever. Apple tends to keep a death grip (pun intended ;) ) on data files like that. Too bad though, that would rock.

I see, yet still I have thought about it, and as we all know there are fake-hacked Game Center accounts which have incredible scores, and since they’re fake, it will most likely spam this site, unless of course you tend to built in a limit to overall score. But who knows? Anything is possible, and by the looks of this fantastic site, I don’t doubt it. :)

Rank: Pig Leader with 11200 points
By FujiToast (@fujitoast)

No sorry, Birdleader can’t possibly confirm EVERY single score by every person on the site. There is a flagging system in place if something seems completely impossible. But you have to look at points possible, not points possible by you (not you specifically but you meaning the user). There is always the possibility of a VERY lucky shot or simply a fantastic strategy.

Rank: Flinger with 10 points
By sniper1973 (@sniper1973)

Oh, I agree with the lucky shot/fantastic strategy, **some** not all, simply just seem out of reach. I also do think that if people, such as ourselves, take the time to enter score, that they are TRUE Angry Birds fans, and would not cheat, as the top scores on GameCenter obvoiusly depict!

Excellent site — keep up the good work!

I think the scores on here are legit. I think a couple of the highest scores on the leaderboard are suspect (HD and non-HD combined), but then again maybe I just want to be ranked higher and know there is no way I can do that when someone currently has 300K more than me.

It takes a lot of work and some luck to get these scores. Some screens require a perfect combo of 3 shots in a row to get the higher scores. Some just require 1 shot. Guess which scores will be harder to achieve? I still struggle relatively on a few screens that require 2-3 ‘perfect’ shots in a row. And then after that there is still the luck factor.

Rank: Pig Leader with 11200 points
By FujiToast (@fujitoast)

I agree. For the most part if all the scores are filled in then that person probably isn’t cheating. Sometimes scores are just entered in the wrong spot and the user didn’t even realize it. Cheating is no good so I hope we will be able to keep it clean around here!

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points
By Bird Leader (@birdleader)

That sure would be an impossible task. Our leaderboards are quite accurate, but nothing is perfect. In addition to the flagging system there is also baked in logic, plus we have a very active community that raises the alarm when things don’t look right. Am I saying that every score will always be 100% accurate? No, but we will do our best. When someone does abuse the system their scores are usually flagged or removed within a few hours.

Also, given the number of scores that are entered, the averages are quite helpful in determine a benchmark one might shoot for if they want to improve their own score.

I like that idea. I would need to add it to the registration process, which can be a bit tricky, but I will definitely add it to the to-do list.

Rank: Master Slinger with 5360 points
By Inactive (@chaostsar)

I think that is a great idea (assuming GameCenter available on all operating systems). Even if not required at registration, your scores here should match those registered with GameCenter, and if the two don’t match, it certainly suggests that something is amiss.

Personally, I have the same name here as in GameCenter, and all of my scores here match my GameCenter scores (except when I lose my free WiFi on my iPod touch, in which case GameCenter won’t be updated until I get within free WiFi range). I’m currently ranked in the low 400s for both AB original and AB Seasons.

Not sure if other people do this here or not, but I routinely check my total scores here and my total scores on my touch just to make sure I did not screw up some data entry somewhere. I’ve caught several of my own data entry errors that way.

The only glitch with verifying via GameCenter would be if someone does not enter all of their scores here. Since GameCenter does not list individual levels, the best that could be checked are the cumulative scores that are listed on GameCenter (e.g. world scores, grand total scores). It seems that many users here, for whatever reason, have not entered all scores, so that could make comparisons impossible.

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points

Game Center would be optional, since it’s only available to iOS users (iPhone, iTouch, and iPad) running iOS 4.1 or above.

I just started replaying this game in an effort to improve my score. I play on my iphone 4 and all the scores I post are from the phone. I also play on my MacBook Pro just for the different feel and I wasn’t paying attention when I got to level 1-4, I looked down after I launched the first bird and got it on the first bird with a score of 36560. For consistency and all fairness, I will continue to post only my scores from my iphone, but I’m wondering if the computer has an advantage over the phone. After I saw that I could get it with one bird on the computer, I wonder, is it possible to do so with the phone too? I’ve been trying, but no luck.

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points
By Bird Leader (@birdleader)

I’ve been wondering this as well. A number of people who have had highscores that seem impossible sent me screenshots and they were all from the Mac version. I would assume the physics are the same, which means that whatever is possible on one device should be on another, but there maybe the extra screen size helps. If that’s true though one should be able to get these scores on an iPad as well. Hard to say, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on. Also, at some point I plan on adding a device option to ones profile so that they can specify what devices they use.

By Ianavak

That’s a great idea. It would definitely be a great research tool as to which device renders the higher scores. I have also noticed that when I diminish the screen to the smallest size both on my iphone and on my Mac, I seem to get the higher score.

Rank: Flinger with 0 points
By jpp_zoso (@jpp_zoso)

as a mac user, for just under a month, i’ll say the game is much easier to play on a large screen and zoomed all the way out so you can see the entire field on every shot. how anyone plays on little bitty screens is beyond me. i also find it much easier to control the birds with a mouse vs. a finger and touchpad. never tried the iphone/ipod touch/ipad version…but i’ve seen the android version up close and personal.

i find it odd you can solve poached eggs levels 1-1 thru 1-14 with only 1 bird…but level 1-12 takes 2 birds to rack up the highest scores.

i only started trying to improve my scores because (a) still waiting for the last 21 levels of ham ’em high to be released for the mac (b) got three stars for all angry birds and angry birds rio levels i have available (c) saw the high scores and couldn’t believe some of the numbers, so had to try it myself. my goal is to get within 5% of the high scores before i move on to the next level. it’s been tougher than i thought it would be.

I play on a MacBook Pro in full-screen mode, with the view pulled all the way back, and using a finger drag on the touchpad instead of the little “hand” on the screen (which I can get if I reduce the size) to launch birds. I tried using a friend’s smart phone, and it is a lot easier to be accurate on the Mac just because the picture is so much larger, but I think that’s the only advantage. I started comparing my scores to those posted on this site, and while most are above average, I attribute this to having played each game anywhere from 50 to 300 (or more) times (restarting as soon as it looks like I’m not on track to beat my own high score). I wasn’t going to post my scores until I saw that I actually had the high score on 13-1 (91,990), so I started with that two days ago, and I’m still working on getting the rest up (pausing to try to get low scores up to average along the way). Yesterday, I looked at 13-1 to see if I was still at the top, and someone had posted a score of 801,800. Clearly a typo, but it’s still up despite being flagged.

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points
By Bird Leader (@birdleader)

Flagging a score doesn’t automatically remove it, but rather puts it up for review. Since the score has to first be reviewed it can take a little while for action to be taken. check hells bells scores….Some angry birds participants are real stupid cheaters. Take for example hellbells. Every games he /she plays, he/ she gets below average players scores. The 6 games that he/she got above average players scores are the 6 top scores. This is a fun game you get no prize for top score when you cheat. I cannot imagine what they would do if a prize was offered.

Rank: Pig Leader with 11855 points

I think that the fact that there are no below average scores, leaving that whole column blank, is what confused lawrence2052. I looked at hellsbells’ scores the other day, and I was impressed. He/she remains generally ahead of me, even though I’ve tried over and over to improve many of my scores. As to 9-10, that is a really high score, but there is definitely an element of luck to this game (coupled with skill, of course) which can cause some really huge scores. There is a certain amount of instability built into the pigs’ structures, and if you catch them at exactly the right moment in their small “vibrations”, then it’s like magic! The stars have aligned. I got the high score on 13-1, which is about 1700 points above the next highest, and I can’t even come with 10,000 of my own score when I try to duplicate it. Hellsbells must have played a lot.

Talking of whcih Games Centre is very frustrating as i’d like to know my genuine ranking but the top 100 or so are clearly hacked in some way. My guess is the real WR is around 22.3mil for what it’s worth.

My 10-9 score is legit. I’d say it’s far weaker than some of the other records on this site. For example 3-5 (I know you can do it with 0 birds but it’s one in a thousand and when I did get it I only managed 105k, 29k off the record) and 3-21, for which I haven’t got a clue how more than 145k is possible, let alone 167k. impressive stuff.

First off, I’d like to say that your scores are amazingly good, but certainly believable. You just have a talent for the game. I hope that it carries over to something more useful in you life, but it’s perfectly fine if it doesn’t. Second, when I saw that you said that there was a 0-bird solution to 3-5, I just had to look at it again because, while an individual pig may just “die” randomly now and then, I couldn’t imagine them all dying of their own accord. Clearly you meant a 1-bird solution, which I hadn’t been able to achieve before, so I tried to do it and got it on about the 10th try with a score of 124,680! This was more than 10k higher than my best 2-bird score. Thanks for the tip! You should go back and try again, but you’re probably right about it being a one in a thousand chance because I tried several hundred more times and couldn’t do it again.

I may be wrong, but some of the top scores seem unattainable without the total destruction possibility of the eagle. maybe even just an average eagle score vs an average non-eagle score would be helpful to those of us who haven’t “invested” the 99 cents for the eagle. First of all great job on the site and on the leaderboards ! since it is so easy to compare the scores now I became even more addicted.

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to enter in the profile which platform each player uses to play (brower / PC ; Ipad; IP4 ; IP3 ; Ipod etc.) I personally only play on the Iphone 3GS and wonder if maybe PC based platforms are more easy thanks to higher screen resolution.

It could show on the total score leaderboard.

Rank: Sling God with 36990 points
By Bird Leader (@birdleader)

Yes, definitely doable, but it easier said than done. This has been on my to-do list for sometime, but some of the logistics have held it up. I want to make sure the score entry is as easy as possible. Even adding one more dropdown where a user can select a device is another step that will keep some people from entering their scores. If I add it to the user profile you need to be able to select more than one device, as not all people play on just one. Anyhow, it’s doable, I just have to work through these problems. I imagine I’ll add it to the profile and allow a user to select a default. When you enter a score the default will be selected, but you can change it if need be.

Rank: Flinger with 0 points
By mundungu (@mundungu)

Adding the device for each score sure makes it complicated, but would be the most accurate. However I think each player plays “most” on one platform than others, for me personally only the global leaderboard would be interesting enough to see where the tendency goes, not each individual high score, so that a global entry ” most played platform” would -for me- be enough for the purpose.

Anyway, really great job on this site, Bird Leader, great job indeed ..

hey i have been playing angry birds chrome for only about three months now and i already find myself with four high scores on the original version is this just luck or is chrome an easier version?

Hard to say, but many people seem to think so. The larger screen definitely seems to help people increase their scores. Soon I’m going to allow people to select the device they’re playing on. Hopefully this will help us identify how the scores are breaking down.

By Snoid

There is no doubt that some of them (e.g., 1-12) are easier because pieces have been changed from wood to glass/ice. I think that you either to ban Chrome scores or have a separate listing for them.

I hear ya, though I am not going to ban users from participating simply because they happen to play on a different device (if you think about it, that’s the whole point of these leaderboards anyhow). I would hope that Rovio eventually syncs up all the levels so that they are the same across all devices and platforms. If I can seamlessly integrate the ability for users to add their device then that will obviously help too.

I didn’t know some of the puzzles are differnet on different platforms. No wonder I see many high scores reported that seem impossible for me to reach on my iPhone, yet many people have reported those same high scores. At least my wife and I are both playing on the same platform and have a rivalry going over who has the highest score on each puzzle.

Also, not only could the screen size be making it easier on one platform over the other, but I wonder if the CPU speed on each platform makes the game go at a slightly different speed allowing more or less reaction time.

Snoid, with the latest iPhone update (a few weeks ago), 1-12 is mostly ice now. I know 1-12 changed to mostly ice on iPhone because I just went back and raised my high score by 9k points. I believe with that update they synched up the different platforms to be the same.

I’m still using the Mac version which was released around January and hasn’t been updated since. We stop at level 13, and 14 is always “coming soon”. As to level 1-12, mine still looks just like the one in the 3-star walk through, i.e., the base is almost all stone and wood. It seems as if Rovio is actually making the different versions more divergent instead of less, which makes these comparisons less and less meaningful.

I would think this will change with the next Mac/PC update. We believe that, with the upcoming AB Sync System (aka Bird Brains) rolling out soon, all platforms will have identical level configurations.

I thought I had good high scores until I started looking here. Wow, with some I’m close but with many I am off more than 20,000 points and don’t even see a way to get the kills with less birds or more destruction. I hope this is not a platform difference.

I really wanted at least one high score, so I focused on some episode 15 levels and finally broke the nr 1 score on 15-6. I had the same score as the previous #1 for two days but this morning I finally cracked it. Will upload my other scores when I have more time. Sure would be nice for this to be automated.

You can read some of the comments on the individual level’s walkthrough page (click the star right of the leaderboard) and maybe find some different methods of achieving high scores.

I agree it would be nice to automate the leaderboard, but that doesn’t seem possible. So many platforms, so many ways to hack. It’s challenging the first time, but after that it is only a handful of scores at a time.

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO! I have an all time high score! level 5-5. Just found out when I entered all my scores. I’m an AB addict, so its nice to know that at least one of my scores is the highest.

Didn’t mean to brag, just had to share the joy with an audience who will likely appreciate the sentiment.

P.S. Do I need to confirm the score somehow? happy to send a screenshot if necessary.

Congrats. You can confirm the score by uploading your image to yfrog, flickr or image shack and then linking it here. The link needs to go directly to the image. If you decide to go down this road follow the instructions I laid out in this comment.

It looks like a couple of idiots have found this site. Look at the scores of the new leader, both overall and on every single level, [name removed]. By the time he hit level 9 he must have gotten tired of making up scores, so almost everyone from then on is exactly 10 points below the high score, although he couldn’t resist throwing in a few more first places, plus a couple of scores a little below the top, maybe so it wouldn’t look like he was faking it. He must not have realized that anyone could see all of his scores together. And then there’s [name removed] who has only entered scores for levels 1-1 thru 1-4 (at least as I’m writing this), each of which is a first place, most by several thousand points. Bird Leader, it looks like you’re going to have to do more policing since some participants simply don’t care about the rules, fair play, etc.

It would be nice to find a good way to take screen shots in iOS so at least I could show my scores in case anybody wanted proof. Too bad some will abuse, so glad you guys keep an eye on this. Taking a screenshot in iOS is easy. The stumbling block for most is how to get said screenshot off the phone, uploaded to a site, and then link via their comment.

What happened to my high score in 15-6? Why was it removed. I have a screen shot to prove my 121,630. I know some people make up scores, but to just remove them assuming they are fake is not cool.

Over time I have found that when a user only has one score entered they are typically not legit. Obviously that wasn’t the case with your score and I apologize that it was removed. Feel free to add it back. That said, I’d add at least 3, just to be safe. :)

Rank: Boss Hog with 14310 points

I need to put all my scores in yet. I have 3 stars on all levels, 23 golden eggs, and have been focusing on scores very close to my highs or very far away. 7-15 was wild as I was so far off. I got consumed by this level, especially after being within 200 points. At that point it’s just luck in hitting the cubes in just the right spot to have a bit more destruction. Always the same moves over and over, but just a small change in direction makes a difference. A score in the 170,000 range is hard on this one and only happens when everything is just hit right.

Now I have to find time to enter all my other scores, and then also other levels to get my time closer to high, or passing high.

So many fake scores! A suggestion for BL, perhaps, may be to reject unreasonably high new scores when entered. Maybe reject scores higher than the previous high by say 10,000 points. (Except for brand new screens.) Would that work?

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points

We’ve considered a threshold of the sort, but we aren’t convinced it’s a good idea. Point being: What if the score is legitimate? There would be no work-around besides an admin adding the score manually.

I went through yesterday and couldn’t find too many questionable scores. Can you be more specific?

On this page above there are 3 fakes reported. On prior pages in this thread, several more that were corrected. Sounds like a lot to me, that’s what I was referring to. I’m not aware of any others at the moment. I was just suggesting an idea to manage accuracy, not sure anything would work perfectly.

I believe what you say, but I’d really like to know how you did that! Over 1200 people have reported scores for that game, and if they’re anything like me they may have played it a couple of hundred times each, but you’re the only one who’s accomplished this. Did you leave the game up on your computer screen for hours? Did you restart it over and over and over? Or did it just happen randomly? And was it the wooden ball rolling down or the table with the smiley face falling over? Was it the original AB or Chrome or something else?

I just don’t get that. I have hit about every combination possible, yet I’m off by over 5,000 points. There are only 4 birds and 2 pigs. And I have tried this hundreds of times. How do you do this without any birds? what would cause any of those balls to just roll voluntarily.

Hey BL- I’ve posted before about (***)’s questionable top-scores. They aren’t out of the realm of possibility, but so many top scores make me question their authenticity. As for WarmPianist’s 0-bird score on 1-3, it of course is possible to have that score if in fact it was done without using any birds but no one seems to have done it before. What about this as somewhat of a solution. You have made it very easy to upload a screenshot. What if the moment someone enters a score that would be #1 for a level, a little pop-up box come up that says something like “Congrats on your top score, please upload a screenshot (with the link to upload)”. Don’t allow a top score to be posted without it. The people that like to see their name in lights as the top score on a level without actually earning it won’t be able to post fake scores….even if they put their scores in as the 2nd best (without the required screenshots), we’ll all know that at least the top score is legit and we all have a solid reference point on each level. I don’t know how ‘do-able’ this is, but it seems that something should be done not only to prevent the “I beat the top score by 20,000 points” guys (obviously fake and easily removed) but as well as the “I beat the top score by 200 points” guys who just want to see thier name in lights, but still potentially could be real. Sorry for the long post…just a suggestion! Thanks again! Yagr1

I agree with the screen shots. Any time I reach a top score, I take a screen print as proof, in case anybody wants to challenge my top score. Just need to work on getting the scores online and added to the comments area. Making them part of a top submission would root out a lot of rogue scores. Curious what the admins have to say about that.

Hi yagr1. I edited your post slightly since I would like that name kept out. BirdLeader and I have had a few talks about that user and are still working on a course of action.

As for your suggestion, there are a couple problems. Foremost, Android devices are not nearly as user-friendly for taking screenshots, and vary by the specific device. Also, it would put a bit of strain on the server. Nonetheless I will refer the post to BL and I’m sure he will leave a reply. We would love some sort of system, but do-ability can be limiting.

Hey yagr1, I really appreciate the suggestion and the heads up regarding the scores. The scores posted by the second name you mention have been removed. As AMslimfordy said the other user is pending action. Have taken some steps to authenticate said scores. If I don’t hear back soon they will likely be removed.

Requiring screenshots has been suggested several times. I just with it were so easy. To reiterate what AMslimfordy said, actually taking a screenshot on some devices is difficult if not impossible (think Roku 2 or obscure Android phone). Lets say this wasn’t an issue, you still have the issue of actually getting the screenshot off the phone and uploaded to our site. I’m not really concerned about the server load, but rather I’m concerned about the usability of such a system. It would require extra steps that, honestly, most people are not willing to go through. Then there is the issue of the screenshots themselves being doctored. This is not a huge concern, but I’ve seen it before. Anyhow, as you can see, this is just one of those things that is much easier said than done.

All that being said, we do have many checks in place that prevent fraudulent entries, even the ones that aren’t obvious. The other thing we have is a very active community that police the leaderboards like crazy just like you did. This is a huge benefit in weeding out scores. I personally believe that the number of fake scores is quite low, but I realize that people have legitimate concerns. The leaderboards are a work in progress, so I expect to have more checks, balances and features in place soon.

Thanks again for you feedback.
