So, the science behind pay to play mobile games is that they operate on the gambling principal in their entirety [and you can research this for yourself if you want]. The flashing bright lights, intermittent rewards, and so on. I foolishly tried ABBlast and saw just how far they’ve taken this concept. The FTC will not treat it like gambling even though real money is being spent and lost … go figure. And, just like anyone at a casino, when you’ve burned through enough time and money … you get burned out. Yes, it is difficult to see some people win big and want to believe that the system is not rigged … so we keep pulling the proverbial slot machine handle.

Thing is – (trying not to beat a dead horse here) Rovio is just taking advantage of this “bigger, better, newer” attitude in America (gotta be first, gotta win, spend more, $900 IPhone that is the same as the last $900 IPhone, etc.), mixing it with gambling, and the result is that they are profiting. Add in how much they bank on selling account info – and it’s a winning combination. For the players, it’s like being in a bad relationship. Why do people stay in bad relationships? Because, admitting that you stayed for a long time with someone who treats you like garbage is insulting, humiliating, and embarrassing. It feels like a sign of weakness and helplessness (when we strive for some small amount of control in life … drama triangle 101). Not easy to deal with.

I just play the game when I’m seriously bored. Coming back, map coins are maxed and I “lost” time, that stupid spire and the daily totals went by without completion and I “lost” out, and I’ve missed out on several contests. So be it. There will be more. As long as the cash cow trudges on … lol. It gets easier to do that with time and “pull” away from the game slowly. For instance, like a lot of people, I am not wasting my time on the new Hound character (aka re-hashed Heatwave), for 10,000 coins – because Rovio is, like any retailer does, putting out an expensive product up front, banking on those who spend $$, and then they’ll troll it out to everyone else later. Once you recognize that you’re playing a rigged game with a really nasty casino owner – it loses its fun.

I won’t give up on Battlefront 1 though … I may be the WORST Stormtrooper that ever “pewed” a laser gun … but I die well defending the empire! HAHAHAHA. (Sorry – side tracked) :P Now, if I could just come up with some stupid game that flashed bright lights, gave limited chances, and sold game money for real money that emotionally took advantage of people and locked them in … I’d be rich, too … oh … no … nevermind … that would really be hitting rock bottom (<= hint hint wink wink … Rovio).
