IMO that main problem is the fact, that Rovio went crazy about the Movie, just remembering it:
‘Angry Birds’ Maker Rovio to Axe 260 Jobs, But Spares Movie Staff

When they started doing the movie, they just took off everything from the game developers, leaving them without anything to work. What they can do without spending too much money on new content? Collectibles, leagues, everything but new levels.
Since ~March 2015, classic slingshot games got: 6 new themes on Seasons (+Ham Dunk vol.3 and Pig Days), Treasure Hunt on Rio, Solar System on Space, Flock Favourites and Cake 6 (old themes) on Original. Overall: 8+1 new chapters, 3 low-cost addons through the last 17 months. AB2 and Pop gets new updates every 2 weeks. Coincidence?
Effects can be visible on the FB/Twitter pages: reducing any content from games, leaving them with posting 97 minutes again and again for some months.
If Rovio would stay with slingshot games with legless and Toons sprites, it would have been much better company. But they won’t leave this path, because it gives them profit anyway. Thanks to it, we have unfinshed content, lacks of updates, many soft-launched mediocre games, cash-grabs, bugs and movie sprites everywhere.
Let’s see:
1.Movie sprites in the slingshot games.
2.Movie sprites everywhere.
3.Mighty Eagle – was thrilling unstoppable monster, changed to big, selfish, annoying joke.
4.Lacks of HBS (AKA Hal Bubbles Stella)
5.Silver being total failure (since 17 months she had three page comic, 2 appears in the games and a plush, while Bubbles and Stella on this point were in many games)
6.Abandonment of Angry Birds Stella.
7.Cash-grabs in the classic games (coin system, bird wears)
8.Leagues everywhere (actually in ABO, ABS, ABT, ABE, ABF, ABFr, ABG, AB2)
9.Destroying Angry Birds Go.
10.Bugs.
11.Soft launching bad games.
12.Giving hand to other producers – most of the non-slingshot games are only branded as Rovio.
13.Non-uniqueness of levels – AB2 and AB Pop (also level overload)
That’s all, probably. I still like playing AB, but it’s harder every day.
