Can't upgrade to Ad-Free with Space?? Page 1
  • I downloaded the Free version of Space yesterday from Amazon; wanted to start playing it before I could purchase the Ad-Free version. I ended up finishing it yesterday, but still went to purchase ad-free today. Turns out it won't update the current free version! It downloads as a completely different application! I sent e-mails to Amazon & Rovio about this. Got a response from Amazon that it won't "upgrade" my free version. That is it a "different version of the game". So If I want to use Ad-Free I have to replay everything. This is not what happened with the other Angry Birds titles. Had the free versions from Android Market. Bought the Ad-Free from Amazon. Titles were all updated, ads were gone & nothing to redo.

So while I wait for a response from Rovio, does anyone have any idea how to maybe transfer my save file to the ad-free version? Or is that not even possible if they are indeed "different" somehow?

  • Forgot to mention...it's the same thing with Google Play. Shows Free as Installed, but if I go to purchase Ad-Free, it doesn't upgrade the current title; downloads as a separate game. Don't understand why this Birds title is like this...
  • All of the previous AB games have been like this for iOS. Sometimes the free versions have unique levels that are not even in the paid version.
  • All the Android versions have been exactly the same, only difference has been ads or no ads, but this is the first time I can't upgrade. Oh well, if I have to completely redo all 65 levels, then I guess thats what I have to do. *SHRUG* Here's hoping I hear back from Rovio why the change with this app.
  • But he's talking about the Android version. There you can choose between the full game with ads (free) and the full game without ads (paid). It's not like iOS where's a demo version and a full version.
  • learn something new every day! I thought the free versions were the same across platforms.
  • I was able to use the app Angry Birds Backup to load my saved file to the ad-free version. Seems weird that just purchasing it this time didn't work. Oh well, crisis averted :-)
  • Received a response from Rovio finally. So glad I figured out a way to move my files to the ad-free. This really stinks for anyone out there who made the same assumptions I did.

    "Thanks for contacting us.

Angry Birds Space Premium version comes without ads. Please note that the Angry Birds Space Premium and Angry Birds Space Free are two totally separate game versions though. Thus when upgrading to the ad-free game, you will unfortunately lose all your previous game progress.

    Hope this cleared things up!"
  • That's unfortunate. Hopefully when IAPs end up on Android, this situation will be resolved.
  • I turn the adds off when play by putting the phone in Airplane mode before starting AB - might (should) just work if you disable the data connection (this way you would still be contactable).
  • Weak. Very disappointing. I'm presuming that Rovio will be looking to release future 'premium' versions of AB, AB Seasons and AB Rio. Until they rectify this shortsighted deficiency I'll just have to put up with ads, or play in Airplane mode.
  • rasmith8357 - Which Angry Birds Backup app did you use to transfer to Space Premium? Thanks. -ddw
  • It's the one by Pierrick O'Murphy. I backed up my space game through there, uninstalled the free version, installed the ad-free, played a level, restored and it took. Was very thankful that worked. I know about the airplane mode trick, but the ads are so intrusive on this version, I really didn't want to have to do that each time. It really is bummer the Android version won't upgrade this time around.
  • Thanks, rasmith8357. I was able to do the exact same thing using the version by Sergio Patricio, and using the exact same sequence (backup, uninstall free, install premium, play, restore.) I see that both backup tools use the same "priority" for selecting which version of ABS to backup; Ads => Premium => HD. That's key, if you have multiple versions already installed. Thanks, again.
  • If you're rooted you can simply copy across the highscore file from the old ad supported version to the new premium version and it'll work fine.
