I think that this plan of purchasing limited Eagles for a higher amount is actually making more loss for Rovio than profit.
-
@Und - I would have to agree with @ChaosTsar, the $.99 for the Danger Zone add a lot of value to the game. Granted it is against what has always been (free levels), but the price point is very reasonable (unlike another in-app purchase...hint, hint, wink wink....LOL) so I don't think you'll be disappointed. However, some levels are rather challenging in that they require a MASSIVE amount of luck to 3 star.
-
i totally agree!!! plus my cousin has seen that you can FAIL a level with the space eagle (it can get all but one or two pigs dead sometimes) and since the space eagle destroys all birds left as slingshot ammunition...
-
@heathen and @ChaosTsar, fine, there's a reason in your words, I'd consider it... but only after I master 100% complete in GTA 3 - luckily, completing THAT GAME is 100% free INDEED.
And by the way, other platforms use to charge for level packs as well. In Nokia's Ovi Store, you're supposed to pay 1.99 for every level pack of original AB game. And Rovio started to publish in Ovi Store way earlier than in App Store... So, I'm fine with paying a penny for extra level packs.
I just don't play AB now, waiting for some real step from Rovio.
-
@Und - "I just don't play AB now"
Sadly for Rovio, that attitude is becoming more and more prevalent and they don't seem to care. In fact, they've entrenched themselves further and strengthened their resolve on the matter. Don't they realize that they are losing their faithful? Any short term gains are just that...short term...once the non-faithful fly-by-nights get tired of continuously forking over money for something that does not even enhance their game play, they will tire and move on...in quicker fashion than the faithful did...and then there is the lack of secondary interest in merchandise... if you aren't interested in the original brand itself, picking up merchandise isn't going to become a priority. -
I know their profits are down just from my household. I have no idea what Rovio is thinking, but hopefully they'll learn something and redeem themselves with future games/updates.. They better do it soon if they have any hope of luring back the players they've lost because of this mess with the Space Eagles..
-
@craziemom - I reported a few days ago that the quantity and percentage of bad reviews was much higher than in previous editions...that trend is still growing...the percentage of 1 star reviews alone is now inching closer and closer to 12%...
-
I don't know if bad reviews going up a percent or two will make much of a difference. They've dug in their heals, the eagles will stay consumable and highly priced. Tossing out a few more free ones as rewards in the game won't do much so Space is a loss.. We'll just have to wait and see what they do in future games, if there's anyone left who's still interested in AB. I don't trust that new games will be reasonably priced and if they are I'll be waiting for the money grab that's going to spoil the game once I get into it..
-
Im still interested in AB, I really can't believe this post is still popping up to the top of the message board with only the same people commenting again and again what they have stated on so many previous pages.
Is there any way that we can make a "I hate AB but for some reason still check ABN" page so this stops popping to the top of my list? -
@lostgreybird When people are happy with some aspect of the game, and post hundreds of times in a thread nobody complains. But when people complain about a price gouging that rovio brought on itself, you get upset when people post about it over and over again? This thread is valid imo, and I am personally happy to see it still getting responses. I would love for ABN to promote it on the front page as well, however I understand it is not a view shared by all.
-
@lostgreybird None of us hates Angry Birds. We love it. We just don't want to see it change. There is a difference between buying unlimited Eagles for .99 and buying a few hundred eagles for $20. Many of us can't afford to buy the Eagles any more and we are upset because this is a change in Rovio policy.
I think that it is a legitimate concern that an affordable game with no ads is turning into an expensive one. I think that some people will think twice before buying a new Rovio game. -
I agree with @Angry Brock - It's not a hate of the game at all, or an anti-Rovio stance. In fact, it's quite the opposite. We love the games that Rovio has produced to date, and want to continue to enjoy them to the fullest extent. It is up to them to set the price, but that price should be for unlimited use. Because of Angry Bird's nature, having a consumable element totally destroys the game. This isn't like some sort of adventure action game where you buy power ups to enhance the actual game (such as ammo, weapons, health, magic potions, etc...). The Eagle element is an actual game within a game (by its very design and from what Rovio has promoted), and because of that, does not actually ADD to the game of Angry Birds so it adds no value to the game. That makes it a totally consumable game. Can you imagine putting in $.06 for every time you flung a bird in Angry Birds itself? or perhaps $.69 for every mile traveled in your Xbox racing game? That's basically what Rovio has done and THAT is the issue that I have with it. Plus when you add in the very unpredictable results that are the nature of the game (including mistaken or errand tosses, learning curves, etc...) that makes paying (and playing) the Bottomless Money Pit Eagle game prohibitively expensive and not a value any longer. I will not support such with my purchases, either via directly with the game element in question or via secondary avenues such as merchandise. It looks like I am not the only one.
-
As a point of reference, i got 90 feathers and it took 496 eagles. Would have taken a lot more without help from this site.
-
So it sounds like you spent half of your available Eagles on just this (assuming you splurged for the $20 option). Now the question remains....Knowing you only have a finite amount of opportunities in the future, was it worth the $10 investment?
-
@sasquatch519 I used about the same, but your better off writing it in other posts, were people like me find that info useful. This one is filled with whiny Wambulance chasers, who have boycotted the Space Eagles FOREVER & will try to make you feel bad about spending your money the way that you want. And I hope it was worth it, it was for me.
-
@lostgreybird -- there really is no need for name calling anywhere on this board. The opinions in this post are just as legitimate as your opinion and there is no need to belittle anyone who differs.
-
Earlier you wrote to me - "So, from your perspective, blowing $19.99 on some space eagles is no big deal (you've spent far more on other games), but for me, $19.99 simply is not worth it.
And, not to flame you, but it is folks just like you that may, in fact, guarantee that Rovio continues this pricing model. For every 20 of us who complain that the cost isn't $0.99 and we aren't buying, it only takes one buyer like yourself to offset the angry horde (at least financially)."
I didn't even know what Flamed meant but Google says.
"Getting flamed is when someone in your party is trying to embaress or demean you."
I understand that everyone can voice their opinion but I think its mean when people post a helpful comment & they get 4 responses from the same 4 people making them feel bad about spending the money. -
@lostgreybird and really @all. Let's not start a riot here. Yes, some people will choose to spend the money on Space Eagles. Yes, some people will boycott Space Eagles. And yes, some people will refuse to purchase another Angry Birds game because of the Space Eagles. Each of these three groups will think the other two are being irrational -- either over or under reacting to the price/concept.
I think sasquatch is fine writing the number of Eagles he used to get 90 feathers. This conversation is indeed about Space Eagles and their pricing. Likewise, heathen's response is fine as well. You are welcome to reply to heathen's question as though it was addressed to you (I don't think anyone would have a problem with that; it's on-topic). But everyone here should be friendly to each other.
So, that's my 2 cents. Here's my $10: I used a little over 500 Eagles to get the 90 feathers (and create the videos). And yes, I think I got my $10 worth. It was a very fun challenge, and I believe the $13.98 that I have paid thus far was fair ($10 in Eagles roughly, $2.99 for the HD app, $.99 for Danger Zone). I can understand the point that it would have cost me far less in other apps, but I'm still OK with the purchases.
Fair and honest disclaimer: Yes, I was paid to obtain those feathers, but I would have done so even if I wasn't working for this site. -
If people want to buy the eagles good for them, I hope they enjoy them. My thing is that it wouldn't be just 20.00. I wasn't good with the old eagles and I threw tens of thousands of them to get the feathers, my kids threw even more than I did, my husband again, many many of them.. It would cost a ton for me to get the feathers, add to that how many an 11 year old would go through.. I couldn't buy them for myself and tell everyone, NO, they're MINE.. 20.00 worth would be gone in a day.. If I can't play the game and complete everything I can't enjoy it so I won't play it.
-
Craziemom has such a great point here. Kids are the primary audience for this game I'm sure. Granted us adults find it so entertaining! With that being said, kids don't have to much of a concept of the money they are blowing through when they chuck a space eagle. Unfortunately it will end up upsetting many children to know they can't use the space eagle like they are accustomed. The sad part is that adults have an easier time moving on, but the kids are truly the ones that take it to heart. To me that's the most unfortunate part of this whole situation.
-
@lostgreybird I hope I am not in this group of 4 people that you say are making people feel bad for purchasing the eagles. TBH, I couldn't care if you purchase them or not. Hell it is not like I can't afford it, but I do think it is 'encouraging the price gouge' if I do purchase them. Where as you think it is fairly priced and that is your opinion.
However what I was saying in my post above is everyone is entitled to an opinion, and one I would hope does not contain attacks towards the other group. I certainly don't feel my comments have been an attack on you. My post was pointing out to you that just because you feel the money is worth spending does not mean this topic should not exist like you pretty much hinted at above my post above.
I hope that clarifies my position for you, and let me stress I have no ill feelings towards anyone in the other groups of players that Slim mentioned. -
Whoa @lostgreybird - What gives? I'm sorry, but outside of yourself calling people names, I see nobody "making you feel bad" for your purchase of the Space Eagle. I don't mean to come late to the party and beat a dead horse in the process, but everyone has an opinion. In fact, in my previous posting, I genuinely inquire to see if another user felt that they got their current and future value out of it. I wasn't trying to make that person feel back, nor did I attack them for their purchase. I hope this is the final word on the issue (attacking others). I started this thread because I feel that Rovio's choice in the matter isn't a very good one and it needed a thread so that others could share that as well. If you notice, even if the person felt it was a good value for them, look at the real world problem of @craziemom and many other family members who play. Even if you felt that $20 was worth it (and have to pay some amount again in the future), how does $60 for a family of three sound? $80 for 4? $100 for 5? etc... (you get the idea.) I'm sure that even the more hardcore Angry Bird gamer might have to forgo the bloated expense, especially with the understanding that it won't be their last....
-
Your voices were heard.
The new update features 20 free SE and a "daily" free space eagle.
I guess it's better than nothing and seems to get closer to the Facebook concept. -
@sal9 - That's something, but how long is the daily Eagle going to last? Also, if you gain substantially enough Eagles through free dailies, mass gifts (20 for downloading this update), completing levels, three starring levels, etc... to get a large portion of the available feathers, then why even bother with such a ridiculous pricing scheme/scam? You've already ticked off a large chunk of your hard core fans by implementing it to begin with, now you are demeaning the value (and as a result, the gratitude of those who opted to pay such an inflated price) of those who opted to purchase it over those who didn't, so now you are ticking off those who opted to purchase it.
This consumable Eagle is a no-win situation. Whatever they do, they alienate a portion of their customers. The ones that they tick off by devaluing their purchases aren't going to be as vocal about it, but when the next time comes to anti up, you can bet that they will think twice about plunking down another $20 and not have their special purchase appreciated. -
I'm totally down with a free Space Eagle per day. If that is Rovio's new policy then they have totally redeemed themselves in my book. I have no problem being patient and waiting for Space Eagles, just as long as I don't have to pay $20 for them.
-
Do you have to open the game every day to get the daily eagle?
-
Yes, per Rovio's description: " Log in daily to get one free Space Eagle every day! ".
-
It is sort of based off the Facebook log in daily to receive a free gift. It is a step in the right direction, but when you think it will take a year of logging in to get 365 space eagles, and it takes more than that to complete all of the existing levels, you can imagine it is going to take a hell of alot of logging in to space eagle the entire game.
With that being said, it is a step in the right direction. -
I just completed all of Fry Me to the Moon using only 15 Eagles. Which means in 2 weeks, I'll break even. And it will be a while further to get more level updates.
-
I might open the game a couple times a week if I remember, which I probably won't because I'm busy and I've gotten out of the habit of playing AB, these token SE aren't enough to get me to play again.
I'm sure a lot of people will be happy with the trickle of SE so fewer people will be mad at them.
-
I completely endorse the introduction of Daily Eagle.
I'm about to start to collect those, realizing that it WILL take time. Well, fine. The person that is ignorant to a game, should agree with everything in a game. So do I.
49 Eagles through the story (I have 39 only, Danger Zone is not bought yet), 20 with the update and 20 with the minimum in-app purchase. Two months of waiting should round up that to 150, and 150 somehow suits the ratio for 50 feathers (3 SE per 1 feather, video guided).
Mastered all 10 FMTTM levels today while walking to my work, 7 of 10 are 3-starred. Suppose to close this pack by tonight, and then... Seems to start milking the birds, drop by drop. Launch the game, get the Eagle, close the game, kill from task bar. And somewhere in June, I should be back.
(Sounds not that entertaining, doesn't it? And yeah, no merc at all, piggy bra doesn't fit a dairyman.)
PS Shame on Rovio, still no reply, even formal "there's an update with more eagles you annoyed so much, now enjoy it"... -
I think the daily eagle helps a lot. My enthusiasm level for AB was so low that I almost didn't download the latest update, but I'm happier now. There's no real good fix for the whole space eagle mess, but this is a decent compromise I believe. I do hope that Rovio will think very long before adding more consumables to future games.
-
@ladycrumb, you read my mind, except that I've got the update as soon as I saw it, cos it promises clearly more free eagles. but the rest is like that: enthusism slightly grows, daily eagle should help, it's messy, but it's a compromise, and consumables should not appear like this anymore
-
Can anyone tell me how do I get Menu Popper secret achievement for Space. Please be specific. Thanks.
-
@kinky Nobody has achieved it yet, it was found in the game coding.
-
Thanks
-
@ladycrumb & @Und - While I agree that this new daily Eagle is probably meant to appease the masses that were upset over the new pricing scheme/scam for the Space Eagle, put yourself in the shoes of those that spent the $20 for nearly 1000 Eagles. It was bad enough that they jacked up the price and your use is now limited, they instantly devalued that $20 investment... While I admit that many of those are not going to be as vocal and as upset as those that didn't like the new pricing scheme/scam to begin with, but it's very likely that they will think twice before investing in such a disposable consumable again in the future. Just what I was trying to point out previously....it's a no win situation now that they started with the consumable version of the Eagle - they are going to upset people no matter.
-
@kinky - pop the pigs on level selection screens. 100 is needed
-
-
For those that are interested, you also get an additional 20 Space Eagles for Three-Starring Fry Me To The Moon.
-
10 wasn't it?
-
Actually, you might be correct in that. I was going by memory as I completed it yesterday.
-
I think its 10, like the rest of the levels when 3 starred, i think they kept that aspect the same.
-
Why did we not get 3 for completing fry?
-
Very small episode, most likely the reason.
-
3 would have been good though......
-
I don't really mind paying the $20 for SE but do agree that at that price it would be great to have unlimited use. I appreciate the fact we don't pay much for the games and would like to see it stay affordable and therefore accessable for everyone. However, I used so many ME's on some games even the 1000 SE's is unlikely to be enough so I hope Rovio can come up with a solution that ends in unlimited birds for our bucks.
-
@redzym - I think Rovio attempted to push the FaceBook pricing scheme/scam attitude out for Angry Birds Space and over-estimated how applicable it was for mobile games. The whole concept of consumable Eagles seems to be the crux of the issue so that no matter what they do (continue with the status quo, or heavily compensate users with free consumable Eagles, or go back to unlimited use) they are certain to tick off a large enough portion of their customers. I really wished things had not gone down this avenue... :-(
