-
Ooh JunkenMetel what a thought!! thank God your hubby plane made it out safely..its so traumatic for sooo many:( i could hear the terror in my daughters voice as she was leaving the city..and she is worried as am i for her Dad who has to work in town overnight:(
Are you still living in the Boston area..i am just
South 20 minutes on the highway..on a Good day lol:) -
Lol @abcrazy! It's in your blood now and you won't be happy until you get to your target number in leaderboards hahaa welcome to the club!! :D
@junkenmetel that's plain scary!! Way to close for comfort! I hope they find the terrorist who did this!! Bombs are the most cowardly way to attack!!
@Kathy I agree! It's going to take work just to get avgs IMO but at least we'll be that much closer to getting both better scores and for sure the badge!! :) -
@kimmiecv i keep getting notice from draw that someone played a game..but when i get there its still not my turn..did you send one?
-
Hmmmm I sent one last night @Kathy and it shows it's my turn, I jumped in to check it to be sure. It may have been mumsie, She just sent me one 2 hours ago.
-
@JunkenMetel -- When I heard the news, I thought about you in addition to Slim and Kathy, so I checked the map, and it looked like you were a safe distance away. Do you still work in Boston? I think you've said, but I forgot. There are a couple of other people near Boston on the map, but they should be safe unless they went to Boston today. I wonder if there are any other nesters who were actually in the marathon, or have relatives who were.
-
@mvlna2 slim mentioned his cousin got 25th there today and is ok.
I don't want to get into a political rant, but somehow we need to find a better way to help the mentally ill in this country. -
@ABcrazy -- I knew about Slim's cousin, and I assumed Slim was with his family a few blocks away, but maybe not. Kathy also lives in the Boston area, and her family is safe, but a little shaken; also too close for comfort.
I agree with your rant, but it remains to be seen if this was the work of a US crazy, or foreign terrorists. I almost hope it was a US crazy. -
I would imagine the only way they will be able to come up with any information as to who did this is to watch the hours and hours of street level cameras they might have in those areas. Which is going to be extremely tedious, considering the amount of activity in that area. But seeing as how they know how big the devices are, they have an idea of the activity required to put such a device in place.
-
@mvnla2 -- sometimes I work in downtown Boston, but fortunately I'm working from home for my current client. Around here, "the Boston area" means pretty much any place in the eastern half of Massachusetts, except Cape Cod.
Going to watch the Marathon is a thing you do now and again when you live in the area, usually when a friend or family member is running, or when you're young. Or if you live along the route. Or if it's a nice day and you just feel like going into the city and cheering people on.
Because it is a pretty amazing event, and it's very much a part of what it means to live here, and it's a source of pride. It's one of the toughest marathon courses to run, and many, many participants run in honor of someone, or to raise money for a good cause. For over 25 miles, people line up along the route, and spend hours cheering everyone along. The harder someone is struggling, the louder you cheer. Every straggler gets just as much love as the big names up front -- probably more so. It's not so much about the winners, or about doing a fast time -- it's about participating and surviving. And it's about community.
Which is why the attacks feel so shocking, and seem exceptionally cowardly. -
@JunkenMetel -- Had no idea what the marathon meant to locals. Really impressive. I'm glad you and Slim and Kathy, and families are safe. My heart goes out to those that weren't so fortunate.
-
I am sure all possible leads are being sought to find who is responsible. And they don't seem to be pointing fingers at any particular radical group, so that is good.
-
Well said @junkenmetal ..its an extreme part of Boston pride and the community..also a symbol of people from all over the world coming together in peace and friendly competing as well as self-pride..
I actually learned the history of it and why its called b a"marathon" but its to lengthy to type here on my little screen and messed up keyboard..
@Ripsy any clue on why my dictionary is now in some kinda foreign code ¿ -
@kathy I saw mention of your dictionary last night after a very long "No Phone Sunday." I have some time later as soon as Maddy finally decides to go to sleep. I will work on it for you.
-
@kimmiecv i got notification that mumsie sent one also..but nope:¿
My phone has the hoodoo again:(
Now little blue error box playing hide & seek again...wahhhh.. -
@kathy The little blue box might be related to your internet connection.
-
Now for the other problem. Go to your home screen. Hit Applications. Then find your Settings. Then scroll down until you find Language & Keyboard. Make sure the language is set to English. Then check your language settings for both Swype a Android Keyboard.
-
O.k ty will cheek out now ripsy:)
-
Nope it just won't work i have language set to English on all possible settings
Still dictionary has strange words with little symbols over letters...i guess i need to reset dictionary which stinks cause everything i type I'll have to save all over..its weird cause my words are coming out correctly..why me lol..always something:)
Thanks ripsy:) -
@kathy Wait! Go back to where I.told you earlier, there should be a user dictionary there. Click it and it shows you all of the words you need to delete. Unless they are all funky, you shouldn't have to clear the whole thing.
-
Whew in the nick of time RIpsy :) so user dictionary select words or should i say strange alien symbols ...:) tyty..
-
@BP patrons. I went off to Hoth and got snuffed in a snow bank. So I decided given the circumstances that it was time for some comfort food. Please help yourselves to some Pig-n-Pea soup. Aside from the pig n peas, the veggies are fresh from the garden.
@kimmiecv I set aside a bit of pig free for you. It's in the smaller pot on the right side of the bar.
Pig-n-Pea Soup
1lb. Dried whole or split peas
~1lb. Pig, diced
12 cups (3l.) water
2 large shallots from the garden (or your preferred amount of onion)
2-4 carrots sliced
2-4 bay leaves
A couple handfuls of chopped celery with leaves
Seasonings to taste
Wash & drain the peas. Put all ingredients into a large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer until done, about 2 hours. Stir occasionally.
Enjoy. -
Hey everyone.
Let's try to keep conversation here non-political. It's OK to discuss what happened and that's fine, but let's avoid the political talk with it. Cool?
And absolutely, the Boston Marathon is among Massachusetts' biggest sources of pride. In general, we are a very proud, very emotional, very passionate state. From our sports teams to our fallen heroes, most residents wear their emotions on their sleeve.
That said, this fits our spirit very well. (My apologies for the censored language, but hey, it's Boston.)

Here's a little something to lighten up the mood!! Leave it to my cousin, he finds the funniest jokes!!
Father O'Malley rose from his bed one morning. It was a fine spring day in his new west Texas mission parish. He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath of the beautiful day outside. He then noticed there was a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn. He promptly called the local police station.
The conversation went like this:
"Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones. How might I help you?"
" And the best of the day te yerself. This is Father O'Malley at St. Ann 's Catholic Church. There's a jackass lying dead in me front lawn and would ye be so kind as to send a couple o'yer lads to take care of the matter?"
Sergeant Jones, considering himself to be quite a wit and recognizing the foreign accent, thought he would have a little fun with the good father, replied, "Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of the last rites!"
There was dead silence on the line for a long moment.......
Father O'Malley then replied: " A ye, 'tis certainly true; but we are also obliged to notify the next of kin first, which is the reason for me call."
-
@slim agreed & I apologize for pushing that limit. Please have some pig-n-pea soup.
-
MwaaaHhhaa @Kimmiecv mwahhhaaaa...ohhh brb..you know... Roflmao

Hi:) hope your work night its quiet:) -
Starting DZ 4
-
Hey thanks for the strong coffee :-) it Smells fantastic ;-)
-
-
Good morning @all! Yay, 7 more windows to clean and then it's done. Then there's only the curtains left, but that shouldn't take long. Feeling like a winner already :D
I think I need to play the challenge first and then I can continue the window project... -
-
@rdnzlrips82 -- Thanks for continuing on DZ-4! Keep me posted. If you can, send me time since restart and score.
-
@mvnla2 That is my plan. I have been super busy since Saturday when my laptop and phone worked against me again. So I am giving it a go tonight. I have a lot of work to do on the laptop with BP business plus the Level Change Project. Plus updating my wife's resume. Plus my own resume. I will more than likely be up until 3am. *sigh*
-
@CC Jolly - Haha, I'm actually cleaning up the house and yesterday I started washing windows so that's my project :D Pretty much a complete spring cleaning :D
Hahaha, The Little Terrorist had left a nice, little suprise for my husband last night. We went to bed and hubby found a half-eaten apple under his pillow xD Well, the bad part is that now I've got even more laundry to do...
@mvnla2 - I was thinking about trying DZ-4 again at some point. I can make some notes if you want? Last time it stopped and gave me only 3200 points and then I messed up with the first bird so didn't get even close to my score. -

Oh, I forgot to say that I just read about the Boston -case this morning. It's pretty much the number one in news in Finland too. That's just terrible! How can anyone do that to innocent people? One of the victims was 8 years old (at least that's what they are telling)! WTF? Why? At the moment they are telling in the news that there was 17 finns taking part to the marathon and the embassy has reached about half of them, I really hope they are okay. And hopefully all the Nesters and their families are safe too!
@AMslimfordy - Congratulations! Your cousin did a great job! Happy that you and your family are ok! :D -
Hello.
-
Hi @iamMighty! How are you? :)
-
Oh just fine. Recovered from the flu I had and feeling better now. Hope all the Nesters are fine.
