Angry Birds World Traveler: Concept and Infographic

We all have been wondering what the future holds for Angry Birds. While we all would like to see the original app and Seasons continuing onward, it seems -– or it was at least the initial plan -– that Rio would end in November (-ish). So, if Rovio chooses to close out Rio by year’s end, what would happen after that?

Well, everyone has been talking about an “Angry Birds 2: Revenge of the Pigs” -– an app where the pigs retaliate against the birds. While I may be biased (I’m a fan of the birds, not the pigs) I think this app is rather limited. Basically, what special abilities can the pigs have?

Our idea is by no means unique, but I think it is a possibility when we look at the “Mooncake Festival” episode of Seasons. A new app called “Angry Birds: World Traveler” with seven episodes (not necessarily 45 levels each, but between 15 and 45 is fine). The pigs steal the eggs outside of Helsinki (Espoo to be precise) and start catching planes, trains, and automobiles (and boats, but I wanted the movie reference) around the world.

Episode 1 – Europe

The pigs begin, of course, in Finland. Over the course of the episode, they flee from the Scandinavian Peninsula, cross Germany and Poland, check out France, etc. etc. Of course, not every country in Europe can be represented (there are 50 of them), but if possible that would be cool as well. On one hand, it would be fun to see the sites. On the other, it would be educational for children. Kids and their parents could go through and see if they can name each country based on the background. The Parthenon in Greece, the Pope’s pad (aka St. Peter’s Basilica) in Vatican City, the Eiffel Tower in France, Big Ben in the UK, and many more. Either way, the birds and pigs would work their way east-to-west, eventually crossing the pond to…

Episode 2 – North America

Now, not just the good ol’ U.S. of A., but North America consists of 23 countries. We can go east-to-west to begin with, landing in New York and seeing some of the major cities in both the US and Canada (e.g., DC, Ottawa/Quebec/Montreal, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles). The pigs then venture south of the border to Mexico City and Central America, Isthmus of Panama, and the Caribbean Islands. They continue their boat ride into…

Episode 3 – South America

South America only has 12 countries, so we can visit each a few times, but some of the sights there are amazing. My personal favorite is Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (you may recognize it from the splash page in the app “Rio”). We enjoy the mixture of mountains and jungles, stopping off in Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, and Machu Picchu in Peru, working our way north-to-south. When we reach Buenos Aires, Argentina and boat our way to…

Episode 4 – Africa

We land in Cape Town, South Africa. After a quick stop in Madagascar, the pigs flee north to the temple at Yeha in Ethiopia in the east and the Tichitt Walata in Ghana in the west. After a long, tiring trek across the Sahara, the pigs arrive in Cairo, Egypt. Amidst the sea of sand, we see the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. (Which creature in the morning goes on four legs, at mid-day on two, and in the evening upon three, and the more legs it has, the weaker it be?) We arrive at the Suez Canal and cross into…

Episode 5 – Asia

The Suez will bring you from Egypt into Israel. Again, probably too many countries to hit them all (48 of ’em), but hitting the highlights is of course educational. We work our way west-to-east, seeing Mount Everest in Nepal, the Great Wall in China, Eastern Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg are technically in Europe, so be weary), and ending at Mount Fuji in Japan. The pigs then boat to some of the Pacific Islands on their way to…

Episode 6 – Australia and Oceania

This is a subtle distinction, but you can do your own research and figure out the exact geographical qualifications for the area, but I think the idea is clear. The pigs will be island-hopping, hitting a few of the major cities is Australia (especially the Great Barrier Reef), checking out the Maori architecture of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and many of the other beautiful islands. Oceania is rather small (only 14 independent countries), so there would be a deal of repetition involved here. Nonetheless, delve southward (pack your coat) and arrive in…

Episode 7 – Antarctica

Now, I will concede, there probably isn’t much to see in Antarctica. But here are some fun facts. Antarctica is the largest desert in the world, more than 2 million square-miles larger than the Sahara, though Antarctica receives twice the annual precipitation (8 inches) than the Sahara (3.9 inches). Temperatures can dip to -129°F (-89°C). To no surprise, there are no permanent residents, but at any given time, more than 2000 people will be on the continent. But nonetheless, Antarctica is awesome because it has penguins, and penguins = awesome. The pigs could bundle up in heavy coats, scarves, and penguin costumes. That sounds cool to me!

Of course, this list is nowhere near complete. There are many other countries that I have not listed and I apologize if I left your country or city off the list. I’m a mathematician, not a geographer or historian; nor do I have the space to list out every country in the world. But, in my opinion, this could be an awesome app! As a bonus, after completing a level, there could be an “information card” option that explains the background. For example, “The Eiffel Tower (1889), Paris, France” or “Machu Picchu (15th c.), Urubamba Valley, Peru”.

That’s a great idea!
The angry birds will get to meet Rio again and defeat the marmosets again!

By Biologist

Great idea but I think it should start in Rio to continue the story from there. You know like this is how they get back to the island. Of course the pigs aren’t at Rio but that could be easily solved

Have you and BL considering emailing this to Rovio? It would really surprise me if this doesn’t at least influence another Angry Birds app’s genre, if a new one does come out.

I have a new idea for taking AB to the next level: literally taking it to the next level with a cross platform multi player version (I’m not sure how it’d be possible for iOS players to compete against DROID and PC players, and so on, maybe it’d be possible with the Flash 5 version – who knows?) Players could be either the pigs or the birds, and it’d have the level design feature incorporated into it.

I hope they do this. It just means more angry birds fun and pig popping action. You guys should email rovio about this. this is an excellent idea.

Well how about the Philippines????? I live in the Philippines and play Angry birds, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Seasons!

By jeros

This would gel nicely with the 365 days of Angry Birds idea. That way there could be 365 stops on the trail!

Wow i had the same idea before i even read this post definitely worth contacting Rovio about

By AngryBirdFan

I have an idea! What if the angry birds team made a game where the levels are based on ancient times! They would follow the Ice Age, The stone age, the Egypt theme, and others such as Medieval Times!

By daniel balding

they should make an angry birds 3-d for no glasses required 3-d phones.

I admit,I would love to see a 3ds version. My 3ds has been sitting there for a while now and I would be spending hours(only if there are all the levels, I’m good)on my 3ds.It could even incorporate the street pass/spot pass features to get new levels!

Good Idea ! but Where is India ?dude i live in India and a big angry birds fan. i understand that you live in the states so you will be naturally like to put all the major cities of US.hey that’s discrimination doesn’t it?you put the cities of a particular country and miss the other big countries of Asia and Africa and have the finale in Antarctica where no one lives.

There are too many countries in Asia and if all of them were included, then other continents wouldn’t be able to keep up with the emphasis.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

I can’t list out every country of the world. Yes, ideally they would land in India. And I’m not discriminating or anything like that. I only name about 5 countries and specifically call them “highlights”.

If you don’t like the concept, then fine. But I’m not gonna sit here and defend the summary of my concept against your criticism that I didn’t include one specific country.

dude read the episode of north america neatly. in the second episode he says”We can go east-to-west to begin with, landing in New York and seeing some of the major cities in both the US and Canada (e.g., DC, Ottawa/Quebec/Montreal, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles). The pigs then venture south of the border to Mexico City and Central America, Isthmus of Panama, and the Caribbean Islands. They continue their boat ride into…”while in other episodes he is just mentioning the names of the contries.what i am saying you will emphasis a lot more specific cities of US.u r saying that in a episode of north america you can have around 5-6 levels on new york and then5-6 levels abount las vegas. and in episode of asia you cant even have one level of india

Rank: Debriefed with 1415 points
By Abhijit (@abhijit)

what i am saying is that you are putting a lot more emphasis on specific cities of US and you cant even have one level dedicated to india.

no offense dude(i naturally feel bad about my country not included). your idea is good and i agree with your idea.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

Because there are so few countries in North America, yet so many in Asia. Sorry, I have no regrets about not specifically listing India on the list. I listed what I could. I never claimed that my list was exhaustive. It’s conceptual.

got it you are more geared towards getting all the continents not towards a specific country(which i thought bcoz you were including many cities of US).your idea is cool.

Read the ABN write up and all the comments. Just a great idea from the ABN!!
Has any followup action concerning Angry Birds World Traveler: Concept and Infographic been completed to try to make this a reality?
There is a lot of good suggestions and information in this post and comments that could be forwarded to Rovio if it has not been previously done.
For example, each game with 15 levels could be a cultural education of the host country.
Just a genius idea about a great game concept. Nice job.

This would be so awesome if rovio actually made it. There is a chance though. After all, angry birds nest had that post about the hypothetical angry birds Star Wars and low and behold, rovio has created an angry birds Star Wars and it is to be realesed on the 8th of November so there’s still a chance that rovio will create this game and release it in a future year.

By Fooly8

Maybe the birds could team up with local birds! Like Penguins!
