Our strategy for Red Planet level 5-5 is to launch Red Bird into the north side of first Lava Asteroid. The bird should bounce just enough to hit the second Lava Asteroid. The resulting chain reaction will send debris south, destroying all the pigs.

I’ve gotten both a 133k two-birder and a 106k one-birder… the number of points you rack up by having the fiery asteroids hit the structure is pretty remarkable, although they do vary quite a bit. So for three stars, just go for a two-birder using the approach of the walkthrough text, and be patient waiting for the debris to fall favorably.
142040, one bird Higher score Strategy: Notice that there are 2 asteroids above the fiery asteroids. Aim at the smaller asteroid in such a way that you push it to the farthest fiery asteroid and your bird hits the middle fiery asteroid. (TIP: For this I used the stars on the background, there is one that fits perfect) Both asteroids should get into gravity field and just watch the destruction. This strategy has given me a steady (1/3) 132k (3 star) and already gave me a 142k score. I know there are at least 3k more because one of the diamonds did not break. But I will come back after finishing up the levels.
Seems like you are doing great with getting good strategies @pelao23! I found a good star in the background as well but I had to use a second bird. Thanks for the help! :)
I tried something like that and everything went wild. When it was done there was nothing left and I had a ridiculously high score, but I’ll take it.
Nice score, @ohforfive !!! Did you get a lucky one-bird, or did you have to use two? My best one-bird so far was 142k. Had to use a second bird for my current score of 147k.
TIP for aiming the second bird, if needed: if the leftmost fiery asteroid and gem-crystals still remain, then aim for the 9 o’clock spot on the fiery asteroid. There is a dim star just outside the first gravity field to help aim. The bird will push the fiery asteroid into the gravity field and ricochet downward into the gem-crystals for 16k+ more points.
ffodor answered my question. See instructions below. Got 162k on third try.
Seems that the highest I can get using that is only 140K. Thanks anyway.
I think it’s better to hit the farthest fiery asteroid with the Red Bird and the middle one with the small asteroid, the farthest one will fall down and obliterate the pigs, with the second one coming down later, wiping out the remainings and maybe the 2 diamonds on the left. 146k
Thank you for sharing @epicotaku . I fixed your comments ;)
2 Birds – 150k with a bit left in. Try to hit the rightmost fiery asteroid with the first bird, so it lands on the TNT. This should get around 70k(if it hits the blue crystals 90k+). With the second bird aim for the leftmost(first) fiery asteroid such that the bird also bounces to the middle asteroid and hits it into the field. It is hard to get everything right, but I managed to score 145k+ from like every 10th try.
This sounds like nothing special, still it works! Stuck on 130k for a while, then 145k in a few tries using this strategy. Thanks!
I retract my previous statement about getting to 160k. ffodor has the best strategy. It takes a few times to get the hang of how to do it but after a few tries I hit 157k.
Nice strat, @ffodor !!! Got 162k on third try. For that score, first bird scored 94k and got almost everything including some, if not all of the gem-crystals on either side of the field. On another attempt, I had a running score of 161k with everything gone except one lonely, stubborn pig left. Got so excited that I missed it with the third bird and “failed” the level. Hehehe… High scores approaching 170k or more certainly seem possible. muK :)
Wow! On very next attempt after writing the post above, I got TOP SCORE with 167k. I have a hunch with won’t last long, though. TY again for the strat, ffodor!
Here’s the “how-to” using ffodor’s excellent strat-description on an iPhone:
1) While fully zoomed in, aim the cross-hairs of first bird at the vortex between the gravity field and the bottom of the cloudy horizon just above the bright star inside the gravity field, between the 1-2 o’clock position at about “1:30,” more or less. The rb will leave the gravity field horizontally due east, fly between the small and large asteroids, then push the rightmost fiery asteroid to the right and ideally explode on top of the helmeted pig just above the TNT. As ffodor mentioned above, you should have an average score somewhere between 70k+ and 90k+ after the first bird;
2) Note the bright star in the “1:30” position from your first bird. Now note the second bright star southeast of the first star at about the “2:30” position. Aim the cross-hairs of the second bird half way between these two stars. As ffodor described above, the bird will push the leftmost fiery asteroid downward and ricochet into the remaining fiery asteroid, pushing it downward, too.
ffodor’s strat is very repeatable. With practice you can score 140k+ regularly, perhaps 90% of the time. I’ve come to the point where, if I don’t score at least 90k after the first bird, then I reset and try again. HINT: the most I ever scored after the first bird was 96k, which doesn’t necessarily translate into a super high score. There seems to be at least some element of luck. I could be wrong, but with two well-placed, high-scoring birds–and a little luck, I predict someone will eventually take TOP SCORE in the 175k+ range.
muK :)
@dseufert I also thank you for the spot on aiming guide.
I increased my score by 10K by following this. You always provide some of the best aiming advice on the site.
Thanks again!
Props to @ffodor for the initial strat!
TY @playdbird I have read your excellent strats, too, on ABN. Your strats have helped me to improve my scores tremendously! And thanks especially to ffodor who deserves all the credit for the alt strat on this level.
that was a great explanation. Improved my score by 10k on my second attempt. :) Ty @dseufert and @ffodor.
now it’s time for the whinge factor. From what I can tell I’m aiming as described though for the life of me I’m not getting the scores as described. Played for hours and still only 144 k and still below average ;-((
One good thing about repeating the level over and over “smash maniac” achievement finally came up.
So the whinge gods please look down on my humble iPhone and help me achieve the 160k + score.
Amazing strategy! I reached 155k after a few tries, that’s a 13k improvement! Now to get that 160k score…
Thanks @ffodor ;)
Many, many Thanks for this great strat. Worked exactly as you described.
My very first try at this level happened exactly as you described! I thought I was really on to something, but see it’s EXACTLY like your strat….now I just need to get to the 160K’s. I had no idea that was possible until I came here and read everyone’s post! I had written down average of 143K and thought I must have one of the top scores but I see that is not the case, lol!
Does anyone have a screenshot.or video..@Muk Hummel
@lesleyg ..I cannot get above 135k..with my first bird I aim.at.bright star hit exactlyas stated with both fiery astroids going down brings me to. About 70k or it destroys everything including fiery astroid on left ..any help.appreciated ;)
Dash it Kathy I came check out your post on this thread to find I am below average again. Come on whinge gods help me get a 160 k score.
Finally after some difficulties I managed to make a video for this level. The method is the same as described above, if you manage to hit the fiery asteroids this way, than the rest is luck :)
Here it is.
Thanks for the Video ffodor combination of video with zoomed so that picture is small and can see the launch planet and destination planet. also using @dseufert Zoomed out so that can only see launch planet using the above bright star on the edge of the Gravity field for bird 1 and halfway between to two bright stars for 2nd bird have managed to increase score to 158,230.
Also had to resort to viewing this site from my Laptop so that I could see (@cheetaa) screen shots. The iPhone 4 is way to small to identify the track on the screen shots.
Thanks everyone I will try a few more times for 160K though may settle for 158K.
@ffdor ty for the video ..2 years after i finally got a halfway decent score! @karen68 i have the same trouble first shot i got down pat 90k+ is the second shot that’s got me stumped. I resorted to ‘the bend’ reducing power and bending the aiming dots towards the 9:00 position on the lower asteroid…but i have no stars to speak of to line up on so it’s a random guess each time.. I’ve had enough for now lol. Not sure who came up with the original strat for this specific but thanks @all for the great posts and tips:)
@ffodor thank you so much for posting this video. I was languishing way below average before finally breaking 160k. I had the 1st shot pretty well mastered, scoring 80-90k, but it was the 2nd shot I was struggling with, it really helped to see it in action. I play on ipad & my background stars are totally different than in your video.
It’s hard to see where all the points come from, things explode so fast, it seems amazing to me that you can get 70k+ on that 2nd shot.
Thanks @ffodor for the awesome strat video. I have a PC also. Finally I got 161k with your method. The key to get 160k+ scores is to get 90k+ score in first shot. I got 94k in first shot.
Aim Red bird to the fiery asteroid, very close to smaller asteroid without touching it. It should throw the fiery asteroid to right place for 85k+ scores. First shot is pretty difficult than second one.
like the videos from @ffodor and @amslimfordy
thx for the great videos
first bird hit the right asteroid in the middle, than he fall of the helmet-pig.
important for the second shot is, that the hollow-wood left from the big-pig (it fall on the big-pig)
is gone. crystals on left are destroyed.
second bird hit the left asteroid far above, than red bird hit the middle asteroid and push it a little bit to the right.
a part of the middle asteroid fly to the right and destroyed the rest of the stones.
again and again, i used the same shots
here my video

Very nice startegy @ffodor. I was at 133K there. After miss of 1B with 143K I made the same with 3B. Next was 151K :).
@ffodor
Thank you for the post and strategy. This one had to be one of the challenging and fun to accomplish. Two shots that have to be “spot on” to get the results in the 160s.
Started zoomed in but in the end being zoomed out appeared to work the best to obtain the results. With the first bird keeping it closer to the smaller asteroid seemed to produce more consistent results closer to 90k.
There is a star in the background that aided in aiming the second bird. Having the laser one click above the star seemed like the best location to get the bird to hit both planets. The second shot was my challenge. Hit both planets about one out of 30 times.
But in the end, did implement your strategy, thanks again.
How did somebody get 160k? I’ve been working on this for a while now and as far as I can see, about 150k is about as high as you could get with all that’s on there. Unless you had a random freak shot that happened to blow up all 3 of the asteroids and blow up everything on the planet with only the 1 bird. If it’s a legit score, then mad props.
He posted an explanation right here .
you know, it feels really funny when you can’t reach your own high score when retrying a level. like this one, i got 140K but now i can’t even get 110k LOL
hahaha… 156k..
This level.is very overwhelming and frustrating ..no matter what I do ..when the first of any exploding rocks hit bottom the other 2 get hit and blow as well..:( guess I just need a little Patience
Introducing the’ P’ factor ..please angry bird gods..grant me the Patience to get through these levels and defend the unknown yet to be explored Red Planet..hopefully the Rover will uncover a way to rid the planet of evil piggies :)amen ..
I ggive up! ! 139850..if anyone has a screen shot or video please help:(
Official Whiiinnneee.. please help..
Hey @kathy , I’ll try to explain, how i got my score. And I’ll try it in my best English…….sorry for that, not my mother-language.
1st bird: see pic 1+2, aim for the upper asteroid and try to hit him exact in the middle, so that he lands on the “helmet” piggie. If you hit him right, a small broken asteroid, went over the other piggies to the left and take the two crystals for 6000 points more. this is necessary to do with the first bird. mostly you got with this shot about 75.000 points, but about 1/10 times you got 90k and more. Don’t ask me what’s the difference to the other shots, i don’t know.
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/cheetaa/album/picture/1215/
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/cheetaa/album/picture/1216/
2nd bird: see pic 3+4, aim for upper side of the lowest asteroid, so that he went in the atmosphere and the bird bounces to the middle asteroid, which also went in the atmosphere to do the rest.
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/cheetaa/album/picture/1217/
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/members/cheetaa/album/picture/1218/
scores 145k+ are very repeatable with this strat, but for both shots a bit of luck is necessary.
I hope it helps, keep trying, and good luck.
Greeds from Austria
Thank you @cheeta I will keep trying your strategy and screenshots are very helpful:) and very much appreciated :) hopefully the ‘ L’ factor will come in. :) I can get the first shot pretty good but not hitting the cystals:(
@cheetaa.
Do you by chance have screen shots of the trajectory at launch and the path to the asteroid. from what I can see in the scren shots it appears to be the after shots.
I just managed to increase my score to 151,740 from 146,650 as the luck factor kicked in with 2 birds fired managed to get the first bird to push the asteroid onto the helmet pig and explode the TNT leaving some pig for the second bird to clean up.
Still chasing a 160K+ score.
You don’t know why sometimes it’s +90k? I might have the answer. I hated this level because I thought it is totally random. Now I think this is a skill level if there ever was one.
1st shot has to be on the pixel sharp then you’ll have +90 every time. I can’t tell you where to aim because here on PC it is totally different to your devices. But I can tell you what to look for. The fiery asteroid has to fall on the left half of the helmet. If one piece hits the other asteroid you were too far to the left, i.e. your aim was too high. The shot is perfect if the little piece just misses the other fiery asteroid by a pixel. If that happens you can bet a huge amount on the outcome beeing +90.
2nd shot is almost as critical. To hit both asteroids is not enough. You must push the 2nd asteroid a quite a bit to the right, pushing it down won’t give good results.
If you can do theses 2 shots +160 is guaranteed.
Gree(d)tings from Costa Rica to my Austrian compatriot
@happyshake – thank you for details. I followed your instructions and managed to improve to 164K today. I made sure I had above 90K after the first bird, and that the second asteroid is pushed not only down, but also to the right after the second bird. Although I learned to aim the birds, I still don’t understand how points are counted in this level. It does not depend on what is broken and how much stuff is left at the end. I had nothing left and only 150K, but when I got over 160K, there were actually a few blocks left.
@ffodor….thanks for the great strat and video. @HappyShake…I have PC also, and you are correct, the precision on the first shot is critical. Just a hair off and you blow up the other asteroids, just right and you see 80K+. With both your help I was able to finally break into the 160Ks!
@happyshake. Your details were very helpful, as were all of the contributions on this one. After first bird, I had 93k exactly.
Second bird I aimed at about 11:00 on the far right fire asteroid and ta da! 165590 :)
A big thanks to all of the contributors here!
@HappyShake Thank you for the detailed explanation. I have a video recorded and (temporarily) have uploaded it to my personal YouTube account. I will later edit the video, publish to the ABN YT page, and add it to this post with due credit.
But for now: My Video. Obviously not the highest of scores, but a valid proof of concept.
Thanks @happyshake et al. This really requires some accurate shooting. I found it helpful to zoom in not quite all the way out, but just about, and using the stars for aiming. I’m currently at 166,160 but still trying for more. Fun level!
LOL @kathy. there needs to be a new badge. The “whine not” badge. For those who whine then get a great score. But I bet @team wants nothing to do with creating more posts to sift through daily!
Thanks @swellD :) I’m surprised at how many have incorporated my whine fa factor ..L
A badge would be cooln.lot of members use itn.it works :)
@kathy, Lolol! Yes, a prime example!
@Captrec Here’s some classic KathyBoard !! 😂
@kathy amen! I can’t even get close to average.
@ffodor @dseufert @cheetaa @happyshake @amslimfordy While I didn’t manage the top score overall I have to thank all of you for the tips and pointers. I couldn’t find exactly the aiming points that others described but used the idea being zoomed in and the multitutde of background stars to quickly dial in the shot.
For me on the IPad, the exact line up is almost like slims video. Here is my suggested description.
There are three small medium brightness star lined up horizontally at the very edge of targeting path. I aim for as close to lining up with this “line” BUT NOT touching them for shot one.
Shot two is still zoomed in, just under the path left by the first birds, there are two stars right on the edge of the gravity field. The aiming point for me was just under halfway below the lowest( more more towards 3 o’clock) i.e. just touching it with the aiming line.
I was ab;e to dial this in in about an hour to get it to all fall together.
What I don’t know or couldn’t see is if I got one of the right hand side crystals. I suspect so but the level ended too quick for me to tell.
Thanks everybody!
hi @georgerxtx , some comments above @ffodor has posted a Video yesterday with a Score 163k.
My Score was exactly done with this strat, and I think a vid is better than pics, isn’t it?
Good luck
I revisited for today’s challenge and found only a few new comments since 2012. I read all of the comments and was following the video posted by @amslimfordy on Oct 12,2012 and tried many, many flings. My score was for two birds using the video and I had 91k after the first bird. As many people have stated there is a wide range of score out comes. Good luck.
Is anyone else getting complete destruction along with 150k scores? I got my 162k months ago, and haven’t come close today.
@Kelani Yep, I’ve seen that outcome a couple of times but I’ve also seen several scores in the mid 160s. I nearly beat my old score twice. I’m using the current Android version.
