No complaints on our end, as Angry Birds Seasons Year of the Dragon v2.2.0 has been released on iOS, PC, Mac, Symbian^3, and Android via the Android Market and Amazon Appstore! The update should land on other platforms soon and we will update this post as they come online. We say “no complaints” because in the teaser video (click to see that post), Rovio announced that the update would land on the 20th. Apparently, they meant around midnight in Shanghai, since it is only the 19th in most of the world.
In any event, this update features some amazing new content, which we’ve broken down below:
- 15 new levels complete with animated fireworks, awesome new music, and the Mighty Dragon! The leaderboard is up and so are the 3 star and Mighty Dragon walkthroughs!

Introducing the Mighty Dragon! That’s right. The Mighty Eagle has been replaced by the ferocious — yet, not too powerful — Mighty Dragon! You summon him the same way you would the Mighty Eagle. Just tap the icon and your slingshot is loaded with a red fish. Fling the fish and watch as the Mighty Dragon flies in and loops around causing massive destruction (RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!).
In addition, the Mighty Dragon will be available for free for iOS, Android, and Symbian users (read: you don’t have to purchase it and you don’t need to have the Mighty Eagle). Unfortunately, it looks Mac and PC won’t be able to harness the Mighty Dragon, which is likely due to implementation hurdles.
- There is one hidden Golden Egg, and the 3-star item appears to be a “Big Banner”. If you need help finding it, check out the Year of the Dragon Golden Egg page.
- Fireworks that, when hit, fly around the screen and trigger a small explosion.
- No new achievements! This is not too surprising since Seasons is nearly out of space on GameCenter achievements.
- Pro Tip: Both golden fish (seems to be a koi) and red lanterns are worth 3,000 points!

Okay. I’m an Android user & this is (obviously) my first experience with the Mighty Eagle (or in this case a dragon). What in the samhill is the goal here? What are the golden fish that dangle supposed to do (if anything)? I’ve gotten him to do total destruction on one level & so I have a red feather where it show’s how many stars I have. Is that all, or am I missing something?
The “dangling golden fish” gives 3000 points when you break it. It’s also not a red feather, it’s a red koi. That’s pretty much it…
I actually consider the MD and the ME as separate mini games for when I have beaten everything. Then, instead of the game being defeated, I go back and play the extra levels. I do this rather than trying to get three stars and koi or feathers at the same time, that way I still have something to look forward to when I three star everything and get the eggs.

I’m an Android user so ME and MD are new to me, but now that I have but two koi to go in the new update, I want ME for the rest of the game more than ever.
In closing I will say this about the koi: this has got to be the first time i my life I’ve ever seen a fish BOUNCE in quite that fashio .
I’m an Android user too, but I have ME on ABo from T-Mobile, and in Chrome. I’m really missing it in my other versions. The biggest problem is Rovio hasn’t added the Birdday episode to the T-Mobile version yet , and they said if I update, I will lose the ME.
I love AB and Rovio and all of these new updates, but I wish they would work on getting the ME in all versions on all platforms, so everyone could be on the same level.
Yeah, they’re kind of all over the board. At this point, adding Mighty Eagle to AB Original & Seasons might be a programming impossibility. The claim is that they can’t sell the “add on” in the Android market (or something along those lines). I have other apps that sell add ons (the app Lighning Bug, for instance, provides ambient noise to help relax people has add ons, or packs so you can buy more noises). It might not even be Rovio’s fault. Why are we able to use the Mighty Dragon in this episode of Seasons, but we’re under the impression that we can’t use the Mighty Eagle (which can’t possibly be THAT different from a programming perspective) because either A) they can’t figure out how to sell an add on in the Android Market or B) that they just can’t program it? That clearly cannot be the case. Like I said, I’m only speculating, I’m not pointing fingers at anybody, but we definitely don’t know what’s really going on until Rovio says “Ta-dah! Here it is!” or “Sorry, but we just can’t make it happen”. And I reiterate, this might possible NOT be Rovio’s fault. They could be the victim here.
It’s not a programming issues. At least, I really doubt it would be.
The issue most likely is the purchasing aspect.
Well, Amazon is set up for in app purchases, and in my opinion, works flawlessly, so I’m curious about why we seem unable to get the ME.
No reply button below, so I have to reply up here. T-Mobile is also set up for ME purchases, but we didn’t get the update for Birdday party. You can no longer download ABo with ME at T-Mobile’s site, but I have a button on my T-Mo download page where I can still purchase that version as a gift for other T-Mobile users.
I remember something about Rovio wanting people to ask their providers for the ME in Angry Birds back when T-Mo first offered it. I’m wondering if not enough people asked their carriers for it, or if the providers just didn’t listen to their users. I’m thinking that Rovio expected all providers to do whatever T-Mobile did, and that is why they put ME into Android, but when none of the providers did a payment thing, it wasn’t worth putting ME into Birdday Party just for T-Mo users.
That’s the only reason I can think of that T-Mo was the only one with ME, and why T-Mo users didn’t get the latest update. Nothing else makes sense. (Although App Up never got Birdday Party either, and they were the first to offer ABo on the PC).

Yeah, I see now it’s a koi. But from what I gather they’re feathers in the original. Well, I guess that answers my question. I did notice when I was fiddling around with the dragon before really trying to beat the level that he opened up the next level, even though I hadn’t gotten any stars. So I guess the take-away here is “it’s just something else to play with”.

Ok so I just installed it, it asked me to play one level on each game, so i did that..now does that back up my whole game or change my highscore, or do I have to go to that everytime I play a level and back it up? Ssry I don’t understand ty for help:)

Its a scary thing drove me crazy for a while also…then I picked the wrong one..I kept going to apps open one go to apps …clear cache. I mean crazy lol…so now I’m starting over taking me months to get back where I was…not even close:(
Now I have a dilemna… the update is outon the android market, but not in the amazon appstore. once before this happened and it loaded a whole new game so I had 2,I couldn’t tell in my apps which was which so I deleted one and lost all my progress:( don’t want to go through that again. Yes, but a difficult one. When the alternative is to mess up and lose your progress, however, it suddenly becomes MUCH easier!! :-)

I had a double download, too for a while. I knew the one that was on my homescreen was the one that I was playing, but it finally drove me crazy. Under app settings & looked closely at which one had more KB of information. The one with less was the one that I deleted & that took care of it.
Any particular reason why they didn’t include the Facebook/Twitter levels in this update?

Without score addict achievement, it’s not fun to improve your scores.

While playing the pop up ads are freezing the game after closing them. Almost like the screen isn’t registering my finger. Unable to launch the birds or even close the ap. I have to turn off the phone. Anyone else having this issue? I have an Android….

I have an android and before I had the ad-free I had those issues even before this update.. but for.99 cents is sooooo worth not dealing with ad pop ups:) hope this helps.

As far as I remember I didn’t lose progress, a window should come up saying u r replacing app and data will be saved if you don’t see that window don’t continue, this is as long as u got it at amazon appstore, not sure about android market.. once I did it wrong and had double download and deleted the wrong one. Hope it works for u gl:)
I can’t get the update:( ssry I would have used reply buton but my page keeps reloading.market says I already have it installed and no update available in amazon app Store. Very strange:(
Kathy – From Amazon App controls, select “My Apps” button, then, from top menu, select “Updates Available” and, if your AB app is from amazon, you should then see it to update it. That’s where my Seasons is from, and I was ableto download it with no problem.
One tech note however, Amazon will require download through a wi-fi connection, just so you know.

I have Rio thru Amazon & have noticed a considerable lag before. All I can say is I know what you’re going through. I hope it comes out soon for you. You could try turning off/on your phone, then open Amazon again & click refresh on the “apps to download” page. Then check the updates page. I had to do that with the 2nd Rio update. Sometimes it needs a jab in the ribs.

On devices with ME, yes! Every episode except YoyD uses ME.
No. For the Year of the Dragon levels, the Mighty Eagle is replaced with the Mighty Dragon.
Why can’t you use MD on Golden Eggs?

Wish there were achievements, but I really enjoyed this update. Is there a finite amount of achievements an app can have? If so will future updates on all AB apps cease having achievements?

-Probably yes (just my guess), There are still a few more update for season (2012) and I can just see Rovio doing the same thing it did for this update (no new achievements). But only time will tell
Ok, so there’s no achievements. But what happens when there’s no more leaderboards!!!
I would imagine Rovio will hold off on achievements (and Leaderboards on ABo) until they figure out a permanent solution.
The GameCenter limit is 100 achievements, 1000 achievement points, and 25 Leaderboards. Note: Achievements and Leaderboards cannot be deleted once they are made.
