Angry Birds 2 – The Official Sequel to Angry Birds – Out Now Worldwide!

The Angry Birds are back in their first sequel! Bigger, Badder, Birdier! After being “Under Pigstruction” for a few months in select countries, Angry Birds 2 (Official Name) The Sequel has been launched worldwide on iOS and Android via Google Play.

“WHAT?” I hear you say, “haven’t there been loads of sequels already?” The short answer is NOPE! And certainly not like this one…

The game mixes elements for previous spin-offs with some very interesting novelties such as Spells and Multi Stage Levels.

Official Gameplay Trailer

Things We Know Now

  • Each Bird has a unique ability.
  • Birds can level up! Higher level birds cause more damage. See the forum topic here.
  • The power-ups have been replaced with spells
  • The Arena is unlocked after level 25. We put together a first look below and there is a great forum topic.
  • You receive a certain number of hearts that replenish over time. If you beat a level or restart before flinging a bird you DO NOT lose a heart.
  • Your bird line-up is determined randomly and the birds appear on “Cards”. You receive a certain number of cards to start each level, and more can be obtained by earning a certain number of points. If you exhaust all your cards you basically run out of birds. Occasionally, you’re able to watch a video ad to earn another card.
  • Most levels change when restarting. They’re usually similar, but the configuration can significantly impact your ability to 3 star or simply beat a level. There’s a forum topic about this here.

Arena First Look

First Look Under Pigstruction

Chose Your Bird

It’s the ultimate slingshot strategy – you get to choose which bird to fling next! “But that makes it easier” “WRONG!” You’ll need to master new spells and strategies if you’re going to stop those eggs getting scrambled. And with the new Destruct-O-Meter, the more blocks you destroy, the more extra throws you get!

Multi Stage Levels

You’ve never seen Piggy Island like this – jaw-droppingly stunning levels brimming with exotic plants, quirky details and plenty of peril. And because those naughty porkies are building their pigstructions right under your beak, many levels have multiple stages. Uh oh.

Spectacular Spells

Use blizzards, chilis, magic ducks and other outrageous spells to inflate the pigs for easier popping or to freeze their forts. And when you need some serious help, guess who’s at hand to make a pork-smashing cameo? That’s right, it’s the sardine loving Mighty Eagle. Oh yeah!

Challenge Other Players

Challenge players from across the world in the new leaderboards to see who’s the most hardcore bird flinger of them all.. Play new tournaments every day and earn more feathers to level up your birds to face the toughest competition on the planet. Seriously, it’s gonna be mega tough.

Defeat Boss Piggies

There’s some serious bad guys on Piggy Island, and your slingshot skills are needed to take them down. Foreman Pig, Chef Pig and – of course – the infamous King Pig make this the toughest challenge the birds have seen so far. Have you got what it takes to get the precious eggs back from these baddies?

It’s also important to note that Angry Birds 2 is optimized for iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad mini and iPod Touch 5G or newer. You can try it on older devices, but we can’t guarantee a smooth bird flinging experience!

I just noticed something.
When i lost all of my hearts, it takes 30 minutes for recharging one Heart
After i lose all my Heart again, it takes 1 Hour for recharging!!
Is this a sort of bug or it’s a part of game?

I was looking forward to what AB2 might be, but having just played it until I “ran out of lives”, I might delete it just like I deleted Stella. Very disappointed. I’d rather pay 10 bucks (a movie ticket) for a good game with no purchases required. I hope Rovio reads the forum for feedback. Give me more Space or Seasons.

Old, used-to-post-occasionally poster chiming in for almost the first time in six months to say that AB2 is just a complete and utter disaster. It’s just terrible. It’s not the Freemium pay-not-to-wait gouging that I really deplore, or the extremely lame new bird, or the mandatory Internet connection. It’s just that it’s really, really, really boring. Randomization = dullness…and, mysteriously, almost automatic three starring. I went through 32 levels today, and then simply deleted. If you have Rovio stock, sell it now. This is a company that has run out of ideas.

It’s so infuriating. I imagined AB2 would be relatively close to AB1. As in hours of flinging entertainment, and maybe a few dollar price tag. Nope. I’m an Angry Birder through and through and this is not the magic I’m used to. It’s not magic at all, and there’s even spells. Please make lives unlimited for a price, a high score display, and fast FAST level restarts.

I haven’t been on here for a long time, but I just wanted to come back to express just how disgusted I am with how Rovio has treated their fans and the franchise in the past year. I played Angry Birds starting from when Seasons was released -and I am shocked with the decline in quality over the years. This game only confirms this – punishing players for restarts, adding all sorts of money-grabbing ‘features’, effectively crippling a perfectly fine game for financial purposes.

This will probably be the last time I sign into this website. Goodbye.

@bankler

I am happy to hear that someone from Rovio is reading these comments. I hope you are able to pass this on to them.

I started playing AB, Seasons, Rio, SW, SWII and Space on my PC, then switched over to my iPhone. I love those games and had fun repeating many levels on the iPhone.

Then, it starting going downhill with Stella. The graphics in Stella are beautiful and, at first, I loved the game. Then, I hit the first ad and the enforced wait to move to the next level.

I wrote to Rovio and asked if there was any way I could pay for the game and, thus, avoid the ads. “No” was the answer.

My interest in Stella faded and I have abandoned the game after completing 51 levels. I never could understand the update with little pigs popping up out of the forest and collecting items and the roulette wheel reward graphic. Too complex.

I got Stella Pop and, again, loved the graphics. I hate the limitation due to the “lives”. I am glad that I have a choice as to whether or not I see an ad, but there are levels where, I believe, a paid-for power bubble is necessary to three-star the level.

My interest in Stella Pop faded quickly, and I abandoned the game.

In my opinion, Rovio has lost the essence of what made the original Angry Birds so popular. They created really cute characters, but the game-playing public will not follow cute characters if the basic gameplay is lousy.

What made the “classic” AB games so good?

1. You can see the entire game at once. No guessing at unrevealed objects.

2. The game resets to its original line up.

3. The birds are in a defined line-up. (Switchable in Star Wars II, but still a basic “given” line-up.)

4. With a non-random start screen, no unrevealed objects and a given bird line-up, the only variable is the skill of the player. As the player repeats the level, the player’s skill increases until, eventually, three stars (“win”) are achieved. On challenging levels, this may take may resets. I might have reset a hundred times or so on some really difficult levels.

With Stella Pop and the new AB2, Rovio has apparently changed the formula that made the classic AB games great.

1. Bird (or bubble color) line-up is no longer pre-defined.
2. Game changes slightly from reset to reset. (Bubble colors and distribution change.)
3. The player cannot see the entire game at once, and must guess at unrevealed objects.
4. Artificial limit on number of resets per playing session.
5. The skill and experience of the player is no longer that important. What seems to be important is the willingness of the player to spend real money on bird-coins and buy more lives, more power, etc.

Since Stella Pop was so disappointing to me, I decided to wait a bit before giving AB2 a try. My worst fears were confirmed: Limitation on resets (“lives”), random game elements and unrevealed objects.

I am not some slacker living in my mother’s basement with nothing better to do than play video games and wait for a “lives” refill. I am an IT professional and make a living in this field. I am a “Girl Who Codes”. In my job, I have to fly from Los Angeles to Europe about every month. I love taking out my iPhone and playing as many Angry Bird levels as I can during the 10-hour flight. The last thing I need is artificial limitations on resets, forcing me to wait for another session where I can three-star with increasing experience on that particular level. If I have to wait, I’ll just pull out something else like my Kindle, a Sudoku book or even (if desperate) the airline in-flight entertainment and just forget all about Angry Birds.

Rather than get frustrated with AB2, I just decided to not download it for now. Instead, yesterday, I bought myself an iPad Mini and downloaded the classic games. I will start from scratch and spend my enforced airplane time on Angry Bird with gameplay I enjoy, without artificial “lives” limitations and other irritations. I needed an iPad mini, anyway, for my job and an entire blank slate of classic AB games is a welcome side benefit.

Hello everybody! I’m popping my feathered head in here for a bit.

I think this is a GREAT game!! for five year olds who have access to their parents’ credit cards. Whizbang, flashing lights, and cool animation. Three stars for doing basically nothing and lots of easy rewards to get you hooked.

But for adults, particularly hard-core AB fans, this is a boring, frustrating, and alienating game.

My one (I hope) useful observation is that Rovio might think about the fact that it’s not just little kids that are playing this game.

How about creating a game specifically for adults? Wouldn’t Rovio engineers find that challenging and fun? There are a lot of potential customers at this website which would provide a great initial fan base if the game was any good. Adults that could put out good money for a high-quality adult game — with no in game purchases. Even I, who finally and reluctantly paid a grand total of $2 for SW and SW2 game (which are great games BTW :), would probably pay 20 bucks for a good game.

My less useful but sharp observation is that apparently you don’t know what “strike” means in American. “Strike” in American is BAD. It means you screwed up, like striking out in baseball or a getting a strike in bowling.

Finally, I’d like to make it clear that Angry Birds Nest has no control over Rovio — no mysterious high level talks going on in Geneva. If Rovio lays an egg it is not ABNs fault. Thank you for a fun, high-quality site.

Rank: Champion with 3100 points
By zlyeptitsy (@zlyeptitsy)

Ahem. You can’t be a bowler. Getting a strike in bowling is actually extremely desirable (12 strikes in a row = a perfect game)and is presumably the metaphor they were going for. And strikes aren’t bad in baseball. You want pitchers who throws strikes. Only “strikeouts” are “bad”…and then only if you’re the batter, not the pitcher.

Rank: Debriefed with 1375 points
By Gelfling (@gelfling)

@zyleptitsy – your observations are astute and hypothesis is spot on – the entire world bowling contingent could fall into a vast hole followed by each of the world’s softball teams scrambling in behind them, kerplunk kerplunk, and I wouldn’t even notice.

You are correct about bowling. After having actually checked, I see that strikes are indeed good in bowling (must been thinking of splits). Oops, agh, or “uff” as one AB sound effect puts it.

But I stand by the softball remark. Strikes may good for the pitcher but not for the batter. I feel like a batter in AB, on the offensive against the porks. Being told repeatedly that what I just it is a “strike” feels like shortly I will be “striking out.”

My main point actually is “Let’s lighten up,” and have a sense of humor about this. After reading some of the comments I expected Rovio to get bomb threats. Or at least imaginary bird bomb threats. Let this not be a Trekkie fest, it’s only a game. (Dare I say that? If I do will that white bird with makeup pay me a visit too?)

It is good to meet you BTW.

This is just like Stella POP – it ended up in the “recycle bin” and most likely this game will also end up there even if the clock trick works (setting the device clock a few hours forward refilled the lives instantly in Stella POP), it’s still annoying on challenging levels that requires a lot of restarts to finally beat. In AB Stella (slingshot) I could at least replay earlier levels while waiting so my strategy was rushing throuh all levels until the paygate and while waiting replay earlier levels to 3-star them, but in Stella POP and most probably in AB2 there’s no way to play at all while the lives are refilling. I’ve finished Chapter 1 and will go forward to Chaper 2 soon, but if it gets as annoying as Stella POP I’ll delete this game aswell.

My expectations were not high, having been disappointed by all the newer AB games beginning with SW2. I like my Angry Birds clean and straight forward, no gimmicks thank you very much. Oh well. Im in complete despair about this game.
The needless pay wall/lives ruins what everyone on this site loves about the game – going for hi-scores.

Plus, the levels randomly generate – I was trying to beat a score my friends had got but each time i replayed the level it had different constructions….how is that supposed to be fair when competing??

Rovio have made a HUGE mistake with this game and completey gone against what its core fanbase enjoyed

I am playing on galaxy tab and cannot the birds to fling. It takes many tries to get them to fling. Very frustrating. Is it a glitz? I uninstalled twice to fix it. No go.

Rank: Debriefed with 1375 points
By Gelfling (@gelfling)

I am also using a Galaxy tab 2014 something or other.

Have you experimented with both using your finger on the tablet and using a stylus ? That might do it.

Regarding getting the birds to fling, I have had mixed results. I always use the stylus when I use the tablet. I am able to use it to play this game, but it is somewhat erratic and definitely not as precise as the two Star Wars games. It is frustrating because I know I got a shot right but it doesn’t come out right, especially with the white bird that drops bombs and the purple one that flies around in a circle. And then, after having a reasonably good fling, if I forget and try to use a stylus to choose my next bird it does not work. I have to use my finger or it doesn’t hear the stylus at all. Go figure.

But I had numerous problems, the worst being that it simply crashes (and it doesn’t give you your life back if it crashes!!). I have seen that over half a dozen times.

I have also had a very weird looking side to side static interference which I have never seen in any computer came but which is only happened three times.

After reading the unremittingly negative comments here, I realize that we all sound like a bunch of decrepits in an old folks home complaining that nothing now is as good as it used to be, whining about “those were the days.”

So I am trying to “Zen mind, beginners mind” this game. If I didn’t have all these preconceptions what might it be like, and would I enjoy it? The reviews at google play suggested that I might.

Now I give the game a wavering thumbs up.

This game is not earning any money from me. The only money I have paid to Rovio is the $2 I spent for the two Star Wars games, which I do not regret. When I figured out I would have to pay actual money to finish Star Wars 2, since I really like the game I started over again from the very beginning with what I had learned and never had to spend money to finish.

Deciding to try this game and spend no money makes me use different strategies. But I decided to use that is just one of the parameters in my strategy.

Gaining experience is more difficult. I have had to ration the jewels (actually the only time I used jewels was when I went to the stadium and used them by mistake). The ads (which I watch to avoid spending jewels) I now use as an opportunity to take a break and do ergonomic finger exercises. Really.

Strategies are the main point of these games for me and there’s now a new level of strategy that is challenging that I’m actually starting to appreciate. When you are uncertain as to which birds you will get in what order and know that you will have to ration those across the two or three episodes, that is actually somewhat tricky.

Also, hanging in there, I found later episodes to be more challenging (should’ve trusted them on that count) and beyond the ability of the five-year-old I imagined playing this game.

Ok I’m just gonna say it, these comments specifically the negative ones are all just bias opinions half of the people haven’t even tried getting past level 50 its actually a good game that presents more challenges than any other angry birds games its pretty easy to 3 star most levels but overall the game is NOT that bad! I agree that it’s not the angry birds we fell in love with but some of these comments about disregarding all rovios future plans is pretty rediculous and you are no angry birds fan if your willing to give up on a company over one stupid rule in the game then it was a matter of time before your flinging days came to an end anyway. I love rovio and will stick by them I know they will make it up to us somehow!! how about be greatful that they gave is 240+ levels for free and if your actually good at the game you won’t have to pay for anything I haven’t spent a dime and have 3 starred over 50 levels I do like the originals better but I beleive that if rovio got rid of the lives and gave us the restart button back then this would be considered one of the better games they have made! Also Stella is an amazing game!! If people don’t understand the pogs on the map then I’m sorry you just aren’t very good at understanding basic instructions (no offense) just how I feel! It’s not a perfect game or near the best angry birds game but it also isn’t as bad as any of these people say so if you haven’t actually played it because of negative comments please read mine and at least give an approach to it as angry birds 2 not an updated angry birds 1

@angry_bird — Hear hear! My father used to pound into our heads the phrase, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Listening to this conversation I am reminded instead of how Thumper in Bambi slaughtered that phrase, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.”

What I do in fact like about this game:
* The cartoon equivalent of special effects and
cinematography are pretty cool
* Silver — this character is new to me and I really
would’ve appreciated this character in other AB games
* The fact that your first three characters are chosen
randomly and than you have to ration those and the
across all of the mini episodes is something that I
enjoy strategically. Yes, it is different than what
we have encountered before. So what?

What I really don’t like about this game is
* Rovio trying to make money off of me , again.
That is something that I have made my peace with before,
in AB SWII. I simply don’t spend money, and my strategies
flow from

Although this really does not disturb me,
* I cannot see how this website is going to have leader board
competition, because there cannot be a level
playing field. Trying out the competitions in the stadiums,
it was clear to me that someone with good to excellent skill
and a lot of money could climb very high. Maybe ABN will
figure out a creative solution here so that people can
have the competition they crave.

My 2¢ worth:

Current status:
Level 147
Bronze Arena League
343 Gems

Purchases:
1 for $5.99 to help with a couple of level I was having trouble with.

Fast Forward Button:
Awesome and should be in all games.

Recommended improvement: Life regeneration clock should also run fast when the button is pressed.

Life limits:
Annoying (at first), play 10-12 minutes and then have to wait so long for a full load of lives. However, it’s not so bad with the generous free life videos and and occasional in-level free bird videos. As you improve and progress through the game, you should be able to be more successful in passing levels and therefore get more playing time in before you run out of lives.

Recommended improvements: Be able to purchase additional permanent lives (example: 6th life for $1.99, 7th for $4.99, 8th for $9.99, etc. Also, remove the life restrictions for levels that have been completed. Difficult to go back and chase points with limited lives.

Facebook:
I’m logged in and friends appear in the list, but when I select them and click send, nother is sent. Please fix this (or politely tell me what I’m doing wrong).

Daily Gems:
I get three gems, but watching the video should double it to six. This does not happen and only get the three gems.

Losing Gifts:
Bad idea to punish players by taking a gift even after losing a life, especially if (see above) the gifts are unsendable. Please eliminate this.

Arena:
A nice diversion, and I think the minimal incremental reward for the top few places is a good thing. However, the results are a bit strange at times. I was in 5th place 30 minutes before a tournament ended, but when the tournament ended, it said I won and I was given 50 feathers. It’s also flipped me around paying me for 4th place when I was in 2nd. Please look into this.

Strategies:
It’s really difficult to post a meaningful level-specific strategy with the configurations changing along with the available birds. Kind of kills the level chatter we know and love.

Bird Selection:
This adds a nice new dimension to the game, both for the immediate shot and planning ahead for the rest of the shots.

Summary:
Despite the flaws and perceived annoyances, I like the game a lot.

Only played the first 16 levels. Liked the game, its backgrounds, destruction animation, and the general overall game-play. I understand this is a new game with new ideas, concepts and game-play so it is going to be different from the other AB games. Game development does evolve.

I even like the changing game configuration when one replays the same level but that does inhibit posting of strategies (the generosity of sharing on ABNest) and competition among players.

The items that discourage motivation for continued playing of the game are the limited lives and the lack of a high score display in the level so we can have valid and reliable improvement, scores, and leaderboard among the players.

With some positive comments coming in about the game, I suppose I should mention why I deleted the game.

I got to Level 75 in a couple days without spending money or anything. Why I was done at this point, is that I got to Level 75 and had only three occurrences of getting two-stars and then repeated the level and easily got three stars on the next attempt. Therefore, I don’t see where the challenge of this game is. It seems the real challenge of this game would be to see how you can one-star a level and clear a level with as little destruction as possible (haha). I never did one-star a level, however, so I don’t know if it is even possible.

I, like many others here, enjoyed the challenge of 3-starring a level from prior Bird games. This game seems more geared towards the much younger audiences. And from what I am reading on reviews elsewhere on the internet, is that there are a lot of people spending significant chunks of money on this game. Rovio is doing succeeding in making money on this game for sure in my opinion.

I played the 20 or so first levels and then deleted the game.

The reason I play the AB gen. 1 games is the puzzle and strategy elements, high score optimization and sharing experiences with the community here at Angry Birds’ Nest.

The puzzle and strategy are to large part neutralized by the randomness in the game. High score optimization is not really possible because 1. it takes forever to restart a level, 2. you lose lives, and 3. because of the randomness.

I have no interest in sharing my results on Facebook, since most of my friends don’t play AB. Competing on Game Center etc. is pointless because of all cheaters. The whole internet social interaction thing is therefore pointless.

And because it’s not feasible to optimize high scores I don’t see much point in sharing strategies and scores on this web site.

In addition the animations and loading times between actual play gets really old after a while. I want my levels to start instantly.

Boss levels were a bad idea already in Rio. Boss levels don’t work well in the AB game style.

By Angry Birds Fan

I’m so disappointed in AB2 :( I don’t even mind the obnoxious and greedy freemium system although I would have appreciated the opportunity to pay for a full version but the randomness of the levels (both in construction and birds lineup) completely kills the experience for me ! What’s the point of trying to get the best possible scores and compare them with friends’ if the levels are random ?????
