Angry Birds and comic book fans prepare to smile as the first issue of Super Angry Birds — Super Angry Birds #1 — is now available … for free! Super Angry Birds #2 is also available on comiXology for $3.99.
Per the description on ComiXology:
It’s everyone’s favorite furious fowl as you’ve never seen them before! New Yolk City is your typical bustling metropolis and like every big city it has a dark side. Through lies, deceit and corruption, King Pig and his henchmen have taken over the town and have made life miserable for its citizens. This makes one group of birds angry…Super Angry! This new group of would-be heroes, with powers beyond mortal birds, fight a covert war against King Pig and his minions. They are the Super Angry Birds!
From what we can tell these are currently digital-only comics (i.e. there are no print editions). They are published by IDW Publishing, which also publishes the Angry Birds and Angry Birds Transformers comic series. If you haven’t seen it, @Dr-Omega has a really great interview with Angry Birds Comic writer Paul Tobin here.
I for one think the Super Angry Birds look amazing and I can’t wait to read the first issue. What do you think?
This is great!
Can’t wait To Read Them!
Get Marvel on the line, this needs to have a movie.
Well, at least it looks better than Agri Birds (which is still lingering in the back of my head).
Although, to be honest, anything is better than Agri Birds at this point…
Uh, I downloaded the book on iTunes, and I take back what I said. After reading the first book, it just doesn’t feel like Angry Birds.
It is still better than Agri Birds.
Both concepts just aren’t my cup of tea. I prefer my furious fowl to be small, round, and limbless.
@abmaster2 couldn’t agree more with this. I love Angry Birds because they are so cute. Super Angry Birds are not my cup of tea too.
Yeah, you made me thirsty!
the drawings don’t look at all like Angry Birds. It looks it’s something different completely..
I just read the first issue. I hate to sound bitter but frankly I wish I could un-read it.
I can’t find the first issue anywhere. I want to get it for free, but i don’t want to put in my card info to get it.
Possible release in French ?
I don’t really like their appearances… Looks too “superhero-ish”. :/
They kinda look ‘monsteric’, ‘dinosauric’ and almost naked. I didn’t like this look. The AB Movie look is much better than this. I also had a better idea for this. The birds will join me to beat up the pigs for creating havoc in my real city. When they come in real world, they get transformed into humans with their outfit of their personality.
I hope this is the first, and the last one! teribble
@josm I agree. This is nothing like cute characters I love in Angry Birds. I didn’t wany to say it, but yeah…this is just terrible.
Ahahahahahaha, very funny…
…Wait, this isn’t a joke?
Not at all what I am used to.
Very Very Different and strange to me
Violent and a bit over the top, comic-wise. Not for younger children.
I like the normal comic where there’s alot of cartoon humour
What I saw inside (some ‘excerpts’ (just images of some pages) that I saw) reminded me of Agri Birds. :P
I don’t know what to say about this!
The AB characters look interesting in their new roles and characterizations. They appear to be depicting them as real angry birds. Makes one wonder what their enemies will look and act like. Seems to provide another dimension for the birds to be portrayed to the public.
