@dante-mele I think GraphicConverter is a Mac-only program. Try other image editing programs that allow importing raw data.
Also, regarding the decompiled lua files – I’ve seen information about unluac before, but I don’t know how to compile that kind of program for a Mac.
My ultimate Angry Birds modding goal is to expand Angry Birds Stella…[Read more]

@dante-mele I put together a quick overview of the zstream files here. The headers are 40 bytes, and contain information about the sprite’s height, width, and size in bytes. Everything after that is raw RGBA data that I open in GraphicConverter.

I made a very simple aesthetic mod for Angry Birds (btw @beakymcfeather thanks for pointing me to PVRTexTool, it worked great!).
I changed the colors of the black and pink feathers with their Angry Birds Star Wars versions, simply because I think they look better (the black feathers are darker, and the pink feathers are more vibrant).
I am…[Read more]

@thepeckybird If you’ve decompiled the lua/json files correctly, you should have a file that (in a hex editor) looks something like this. The first nine bytes (highlighted in orange) are what I need to remove in order to properly extract the contents of the file.

There’s a new game in soft launch, titled “Angry Birds Dream Blast.”

Earlier this month Rovio soft launched yet another match-3 Angry Birds game, titled “Angry Birds Dream Blast” (on Google Play and iTunes). The birds have an interesting movie-styled hatchling design.
From the gameplay I’ve seen, it’s somewhat like Angry Birds Blast, except the blocks fall based on physics into an uneven pile instead of a neat…[Read more]

@thepeckybird After decrypting the .lua and .json files you should actually get an archive file of type .lzma. I have to remove the first nine bytes in a hex editor before I can extract its contents.
After this the .json files should be readable, but the .lua files are still a little obfuscated. I’m not sure how to deal with the lua files.

@thepeckybird The .zstream files are the raw RGBA data I mentioned earlier.
I first use a hex editor to separate the sprites; then I use a Mac program called GraphicConverter to turn them into PNG images (I haven’t tried anything else, so I don’t know what other programs would be able to do this). I have to use a hex editor first because the…[Read more]

@beakymcfeather Ooh, that could be helpful – up to this point I’ve been using TexturePacker. Thanks, I’ll take a look at that!

@thepeckybird Well, a lot of them still are – it’s mostly just the images starting with “INGAME_” that have been changed.
I have a question for you – what APK editor are you using?

@thepeckybird The .json files are encrypted the same way the .lua files are. If you have OpenSSL on your computer you can use the method described here to decompile them both. The only difference is that decrypting the .json files results in a readable plaintext file, while the lua files are still somewhat obfuscated.
As for decrypting .dat files,…[Read more] -

@thepeckybird Also, each image’s accompanying .dat file has been replaced with a .json file, which is encrypted the same way the Lua files are.
@beakymcfeather The change from PNG/PVR to zipped raw data happened sometime after the 7.0.0 update, well after the PC/Mac versions were discontinued.

@thepeckybird Good luck with the images; more recent updates to both AB Classic and Seasons have some of the sprite sheets in a bit more obfuscated format. Instead of straightforward .png or .pvr images, many of them are .7z archives that contain a file with raw RGBA data.

@joseantonio I don’t think editing the LUA files is necessary to change audio files.

The Wilhelm scream would be funny at first, but I feel like it would get annoying very quickly.
And it feels like they eventually did use the bird-upgrading mechanic in Angry Birds Evolution and Angry Birds 2.

1. I like the blurs and deflated Matilda. Not sure about Corporal pigs.
2. I know which ones you’re talking about, and since this is a mod for the original game I’d probably stick with the original theme (or make something new, I guess).
3. Since you’re using the pre-Toons design, I’d also use the pre-Toons sounds. I suppose you could add new…[Read more] -

Keep in mind if you’re editing the image files you might also need to understand their accompanying .dat files, which contain hexadecimal information regarding each sprite’s coordinates, bounding box, and origin point.
I’m going to be trying to make my own image mod as well, but I want to go in the opposite direction as @beakymcfeather in that I…[Read more]
