1-11 just keep getting luckier, this level is alot of fun! 230,410 started to the right, popped bird broke 2nd to last cloud made last part of structure and middle of structure fall. then 2nd bird popped it and went through 3rd and 4th cloud blocks which made the rest all fall.

I was thinking along the same lines…what is the lowest score you can get while killing all the piggies. You would have to see how precisely you could kill the piggies instead of upping the collateral damage like the goal is now.

It would be difficult to report because a low score would not be stored anywhere, but maybe Rovio could keep it in mind for future development.

Just a little something i’ve noticed: in the original angry birds game, within the “Rovio news” pause screen, there have been clues in the angry birds summer pignic ad. A few days ago “1-14?” was written on the crate, with 1-14 being a level with a golden egg. Then from a couple days ago it has changed to “July 8th?” with a flying rocket symbol next to it, of course referring to the 1-17 space stage…

To be honest, you’d have to get JW to answer that, but I think he/she just started hunting semi-randomly after being tipped off by the egg-clouds. (Later egg-clouds turned out to be decoys, but the first ones were legitimate.) On the other hand, we have found a few golden eggs behind the slingshot in the past, such as Egg #22, aka the Rio Egg, aka the Super Bowl Egg in Ham ’em High 13-12.

Rank: Flinger with 45 points
By srduck (@srduck)

I disagree with your assessment that Summer Pignic is easy. Just because you can get 3 stars quickly doesn’t indicate that it’s easy. I believe it’s quite challenging as I’m enjoying playing them over and over to try to discover the nuances and raise my high scores. But the 3-star scores on many of them are too low. I expect it to be a challenge to get to the 3-star score, but on Summer Pignic, we’re seeing from the scores reported that many people are exceeding the 3-star score by 50% or more. Perhaps they didn’t fully test the score potential on Summer Pignic before setting the 3-star scores.

Rank: Flinger with 0 points
By tobi (@tobi)

I think the 3-star limits are mostly ok. On this site the tactic is given out within hours, and sometimes it makes it a lot easier. Some are too easy, but if the 3-star scores would be set based on expert scores they might lose a lot of casual players.

Rank: Flinger with 45 points
By srduck (@srduck)

I’ll state another counter argument to the original poster. With Pignic, most of the puzzles will collapse with one big chain reaction with 1 or 2 birds and they don’t require as much strategy or pinpoint placement of birds. None of them have been difficult to clear of pigs, but if you can ignore the “arbitrary” minimum 3-star score, there is a lot of challenge as a lot of potential exists to clear out more or find a way for a higher score.

With the original poster’s comment, is the goal simply to get 3-stars on a level and move on? Or is the goal to try different ways to smash the pigs and try for a higher score?

And I call the minimum 3-star score “arbitrary” because I’ve never understood how Rovio determines what it should be for each puzzle.

Since I found this website, I have begun to ingore the minimum 3-star scores and instead am shooting to try to get above the average reported score on this website. That seems to be a more realistic goal and likely equalizes the challenge from puzzle to puzzle.

Rank: Flinger with 45 points
By srduck (@srduck)

“On this site the tactic is given out within hours, and sometimes it makes it a lot easier.”

I guess that’s personal choice of whether you enjoy trying to beat a level or cheat by going straight to the walkthrough offered on this website. Personally, I prefer to solve the levels and get my highest scores on my own without the walkthroughs. I do look at a walkthrough when I’ve spent hours on a puzzle and believe I have the highest score I can achieve and am curious how someone else solved it.

By mfiman

Continuing the debate:

Overall, I am disappointed with the Pignic levels. I have had fun with a few levels, but not many.

In Angry Birds, there has always been a careful balance between skill and luck.

The skill comes from knowing where to aim shots for maximum effect and successfully executing them. Even if you know, either from a walkthrough or your own work, exactly where a shot should go, it can be difficult to get the shot to go there. Getting it to go is still a matter of skill.

The luck comes from making shots that are seemingly identical (save for possible minor differences that a player can neither detect nor control) and getting significantly different results on each attempt. This leads to the common comments seen on this site such as “I had to take the same shot over a hundred times times before I could get it to work. Even now, I can’t duplicate the results even when I think I have duplicated the shot.” or “I followed the advice in the walkthough but somehow got 20,000 more points. I guess I was just very lucky with the way the boulders fell. It has never happened again.”

As I said, both of these elements have always been a part of Angry Birds. But, up until Pignic, I have always felt that the balance was tilted towards skill. With Pignic, this has shifted; the balance seems tilted towards luck — at least in terms of getting top scores.

For me, this is a tilt for the worse. When a person obtaining a high score cannot even come close to achieving their own same score again, it makes the game less interesting and enjoyable for me. For this to happen on a few levels, okay. But with Pignic, it seems almost every level is this way.

Rank: Flinger with 45 points
By srduck (@srduck)

I completed the regular Angry Birds with 3-stars on every level. There were some levels that required a lot of luck and which I got a high score I could no longer come near again. And there are levels that took a tremendous amount of skill with perfect shots with all birds (7-4 for example). I agree that there’s always been some of each everywhere.

With Seasons, I just began playing, starting with Pignic, then the Easter one. The Easter one has much more difficult levels as there were several that took me awhile just to solve. With Pignic, which I did first, I had no trouble with solving them and found that there were 2 or 3 which did take a little work in going for 3 stars. But my 3-star scores are far below what others have achieved and that’s where I’ll find my challenge.

I think the difference with Seasons and regular Angry Birds is that we all probably played regular Angry Birds first. Remember Episode 1 started with simple birds and simple levels and as we advanced through the different worlds and episodes, the levels became harder and we were given more birds. Then we play seasons, already skilled with the different types of birds and already with the experience of solving difficult levels. There’s a difference of perspective in playing each game.

Someone once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well, Angry Birds does provide different results for seemingly the same shot. But that’s what’s fun about it. If exactly the same shot had the exact same results with broken blocks falling in exactly the same spots, the game would become quickly redundant. The fact that I can shoot a bird and get the blocks to scatter a different way adds to my interest in the game and provides more opportunities in solving each level. Or is there really two identical shots? How do you know you’re pulling the bird back at exactly the same angle and tapping at exactly the same moment. There could be infantesimal differentces that you can’t see on the screen but is caputured in how the bird interacts with the blocks.

I think the big criticism for Pignic is that the levels are too similar. They’re too much of the same type of puzzle to solve… Throw a bird into a mess and watch the blocks tumble. But the skill is still required at where to throw the bird, and there are many possible places to throw the birds. I don’t classify Pignic as luck instead of skill. There’s definitely skill still required as there’s still many ways to solve each level.

Rank: Well Traveled with 1770 points
By nudirect (@nudirect)

I agree on this. Not being able to predict the outcome of a shot is part of the fun. In every game there is a factor of luck involved. Some people speak of Pignick being all about luck. But before you can have the ‘luck’ you need to have the skill to put the bird in the right place.

Rank: Well Traveled with 1855 points
By DocTonyNYC (@doctonynyc)

I totally agree. Today (1-19) I think is a perfect example. If you are using the method most people seem to be using today the second bird (bomb bird) requires abosiute precision to detonate the TNT. If you are off by a hair in either direction, you hit the square on the right, or you land on the roof of the first structure.

I have enjoyed taking my time with each level on Summer Pignic trying to get high scores. And, for the first time in my history of Angry Birds, it’s paid off with good rankings here and on Game Center. Of course, I’m not making much progress on the research and writing that I was supposed to be doing this summer!

By mfiman

To be clear…I never said I expected or wanted the game to be all skill. I understand there is luck involved and that is part of the fun. And I agree that I shouldn’t expect the exact same results with each similar shot. And I of course recognize that there may be imperceptible differences in how I release a bird etc. etc. etc. All true.

What I did say is that it is all about the balance between luck and skill. Not the absence or one or the other. And I feel the balance has tipped in the wrong direction in Pignic.

For example, there may be a very difficult shot to make — such has hitting a semi-protected wood block at just the right angle in order to break through it. I might take me a hundred similar shots before I make a shot that actually gets the block to break. Success at at last!

But no. Too often in Pignic (and not nearly as much in other levels of Seasons), there reward does not happen. The subsequent blocks don’t fall as expected and I don’t get the score that others report getting after breaking through the wood block. There is no reason that I can discern to account for this. I may have to break through that same block dozens of times (requiring several hundred more shot attempts) before the desired effect actually happens (and even then it may result in thousands of points less than others have reported for no apparent reason). I don’t consider this to be fun.

You might reply that this is a limitation of my shooting skill. I can only respond by saying my record is quite good and I don’t believe this is the critical factor.

By mfiman

I have no problem with this. I consider this a skill issue, not a luck one. If you hit the bird just right, the TNT explodes. That’s skill What I am talking about is more like…the TNT explodes but does not result in the damage that others report getting when the TNT explodes. What then? People wind up saying that how much damage the TNT produces is “just luck.” There is no guidance that anyone can offer as to how to get the TNT to explode the “right” way.

I understand that you (and others) may not agree with my assessment. So be it. I simply wanted to offer my perspective.

Rank: Well Traveled with 1855 points
By DocTonyNYC (@doctonynyc)

I think it’s a bit of both. There seem to be much bigger ranges than usual between minimum three star scores and what is actually possible. In terms of “over achievers,” I think during the summer a lot of people have more free time. I’m a college professor, and I’m not teaching this summer. Also, one level a day means folks can spend hours and hours improving and hoping for that one magical shot.

Rank: Flinger with 45 points

I think also with Summer Pignic, releasing one new level each day contributes also. People who have already solved all levels have all day to master the daily new Summer Pignic level. Me, I’m working very hard trying to win the award on Easter Eggs. I have all the 3 stars, but 1,910,000 seems so far away.

By mfiman

Does anyone know if the game gives bonus points for “intangibles” such as how fast blocks tumble etc. etc.? I only ask this because there have been several times where I complete a level twice (using identical number of birds) and get what appears to be similar results in terms of blocks and pigs destroyed…yet the score for one round is 20,000 points more than the other. Looking at the lower score screen, it’s hard to see where those extra 20,000 points came from. An extra 5,000 or so maybe. But not 20,000.

Maybe I’m just not adding things up correctly, but I thought I’d ask if others had seen anything similar.

If you really can’t handle some jokers on a leaderboard that get taken care of right away by a very good team that runs this place (thanks bird leader), then maybe it is time to put the game down for a bit and realize that high scores amount to nothing in life.

Rank: Flinger with 75 points
By Btrash (@btrash)

Bird Leader,

I have seen this issue come up a few times, and I think it is handled by you very quickly and isn’t a big deal, but maybe something could be done to help keep accidental and/or fake hi scores. Perhaps something could be added to the code for submitting a score that will pop up a prompt saying “You are entering the hi score for this level, are you sure?” If the person enters the top score. Also maybe require a screenshot to be uploaded for the top score that can be linked to top score (like on the leaderboard, the top score would be clickable, and clicking on it would link it to the screenshot that shows that score). This would make it easier for people to see if the top score is correct and you would end up with less flaggings of top scores if people see that the score matches that of the screenshot. Not sure how easy/difficult this would be to implement, and how much added benefit it would be….

Just my 2 cents.

Awesome site by the way, I wish I would have found it earlier so I could have entered my scores as I went rather than having to go through all at once ;-)

Rank: Sling God with 28095 points

Hey Btrash, I really appreciate the feedback and kudos. We do have many checks in place already that definitely help prevent fake or mistakenly entered scores. Your idea of a prompt when entering a highscore is a good one though, so I’ll put this on the list. Requiring a screenshot is just not realistic at this point though, as not all devices make it easy for one to take the screenshot in the first place. Even if they did there would be then be the issue of actually getting off ones device and onto this websites. I’m afraid most users would lose interest at this point. I often do ask users to provide screenshots, but I typically handle this offline.

I wish Rovio would have had the foresight to upload everyone’s high scores for each individual level straight from the game (and not going through the Apple thing) and provide a statistical summary of the scores of every level. But, it’s not too late for Rovio to do that. They could add that capability with the next update of each game. Or Rovio could simply write into their Leaderboard code to discard any total scores greater than certain amounts.

What I don’t understand is the reason behind the messed up scores. If someone wants to hack in and give themselves false scores, surely they’re smart enough to not give themself a score 19 digits long. And 3 people gave themselves the same 19 digit score. My guess is that someone hacked in just to see if they could and simply messed the file up by accident.

First, to verify a high score that is so far above the rest, please comment back with a screenshot. You can find instructions on doing so in BirdLeader’s comment.

Second, individuals who only enter a small number of scores are periodically purged, since they are false the majority of the time (tho not always). To avoid this, please compete with us on several levels.

I see your Pignic 1-18 score of 121,390 is correctly posted now. So others might learn something, do you know what happened? Did your login session timeout and you needed to login again? Or something else?

Has anyone figured out a way to play the remaining Summer Pignic levels early? My expectation is that the levels are already on my iPhone and the game just checks the date/time to determine when each level is available. Since a game update isn’t required each day, the new levels must be on my iPhone and not being downloaded each day. I tried changing the date on my iPhone to something later, but that doesn’t make the remaining levels available early. My guess is the game checks the date against some source on the internet to determine when each level is available.

There is no work arous because your initial assumption is false. The levels are not already on your device (if you use iOS you can verify this with iPhone Explorer). Each day, your device uses the Internet to check the time on Rovio’s server I assume. If after 8am UTC, your device downloads that day’s (and previous days’) .lua files.

I just had a weird happening. I went to play today’s 1-23 for the first time and it told me that it’s not available for 30 days. I then turned off my iPhone and restarted it. Now I can access 1-23 as expected.

Nope, the levels are actually not on the phone yet. The reason you need wi-fi is because it downloads the level file so that you can play it. The requirement to have wi-fi or data is kind of a bummer, but they did this because people were able to unlock all of Seasons Greedings early, which was a bit unfair.

What’s the verdict on the highest plausible scores on gamecenter?

For example, Moonsabre, _grx_, “)~(“, and Wag94.

Most of these people have scores that are over 500K points higher than Druidie.

The scores are not so high to immediately be dismissible as cheating, and yet for them to be true, they would have to be getting very close, and often surpassing, the highest score for every single level!

I notice there is a GRX in this leader-board, but they haven’t updated their scores in a long time. Is the same person? Has anyone gotten validation of the top 10 being legit or fake?

I believe all 4 players you have named to be 200% legit. Moonsabre, for example is also white hot on Rio.

Rightly or wrongly I take these players as the best out there. Also, congratulations to )-( who I believe is the first person to crack the 16 million on Seasons.

Hello, my name is Nev and I am )~( on GameCenter. I dont post my scores here as I already post them on a similar site for genuine scores, but I often check on here to see if Im too far back on any levels. I know moonsabre and angryGRX are genuine players as we regularly share strategies together (along with many other great AB players) and I can assure you they are real scores. I do not personally know Wag94 but have no reason to doubt they are also genuine.

@habanero, thank you for your comments, I worked very very hard for those scores, but could not have done so well without the help and willingness to share stategies of the many good friends I have met through this addictive game (you all know who you are)

Cheers
Nev

Hi Nev,

Nice to make your acquaintance. I first started tracking you on the ‘other’ website that shall not be mentioned here when I was playing Go Green. You crushed pretty much every level on that world. My goal was to get within 4K of the 10th highest score. Arbitrary, I know, but seems to be right balance of time and effort for my gaming… that has gotten me to top 100, sometime top 50, in all the worlds I have tried for (haven’t done ‘clean-up’ on Hogs or Greedings yet.)

Anyway, I guess you could say you were an inspiration for me to get competitive on Seasons (its started with Go Green).

Thanks, and congratulation!

P.S. got any tips to share?…

I know for a fact that moonsabre and _grx_ and )~( are legit. Moonsabre is an awesome scorer but has recently decided to ‘Retire’. AngryGRX is _grx_ on GC iirc.

I don’t know about Wag94.

I hate Level 1-15 of “Go Green, Get Lucky.” Freaking impossible to get 3-stars but everyone else seems to have done it. I don’t cheat and look at walkthroughs until after I earn 3 stars. Back to spend a lot more time on this one.

Having read the comment above about newbied adding hiscores, here’s the screenshot of my Summer Pignic 1-25 score.
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Vr0mGXU9sfpyghBMrQEjEg?feat=directlink

It was a single bird through the twin posts on the left, which passed right through to destroy the right hand side as well.

Wish I couldrepeat it.

Me too. I got 110,240 the same way. Although I can get the bird to pass through again, I haven’t been able to get past 103,000 again.

For Summer Pignic 1-26 I got 134980 using one bird only. Where’s the line for this one? =)

Pignic 1-26, 1 bird, 137,370. Arc the yellow bird up fairly high but DO NOT tap the screen to boost it. If at the right arc, it will knock out the lower left wood support of the far-right tower, knocking it down to the left, which in turn starts a chain to knock the rest of the structures over.

I played several times to get as may flowers as I could with the debris falling, will probably play more to see if I can’t get more (I think 137,370 knocked out four flowers, maybe only three).

Picnic 1-26, 1 bird, 139620. Same as above but I got all of the flowers on the right hand slope and only left one small blue flower on the bottom.

I also made it with One bird but only took the flower of the hands at the back.

Kept playing this level through the Women’s World Cup, and I looked up at the match, then back down at the level, and I somehow ended up with a score of 146,090. No idea how that happened (one flower was left — the blue one on the bottom).
