Is Angry Birds 2 In The Works? (Poll)

Angry Birds 2 Under Construction

Some impressive sleuthing done by @NerdyBird this morning! While there is basically no information available (we don’t know the answer to “if”, let alone “what”, “when”, or “where”), the existence of the URL rovio.com/en/angrybirds2 will of course spur speculation!

Here’s the only definitive information we can offer: The file name of the image on the above referenced URL is, “BP_underconstruction(2).jpg. Now, it’s entirely possible that Rovio reused the image from back when Bad Piggies was in the works. But it’s also possible that “Angry Birds 2″ was the original name of Bad Piggies before a more creative name came along, but the web page was never nixed.

So that begs the questions:

  • Is there an Angry Birds 2 app in the works?
  • Was this app already released as “Bad Piggies”?
  • Is this just a placeholder for Rovio’s website team with no real meaning?
  • Or do you think it’s something else enterily?

Well, what do you think? Leave us a comment and take our poll!

As long as the URL wasn’t created on April 1st, then this is the real deal;)

Does anyone know when this image was published?

Considering the fact that I would definitely(and I mean definitely) crave a new app (regardless of price, compatibility, IAP, powerups factors), I don’t think Rovio would be launching a new sequel app just because ABO has too many episodes (Seasons still holds the record). Anyways, hope to see more from our favorite and top developer.

Many great products, including games, has been discovered through webpages. This is normally when companies buy up new domains, to prevent domain-sharks to procure the domain names when they release the new products. But that is not the case here. The domain name here, rovio.com, is already theirs. But the domain angrybirds2.com IS actually in use, registered through Domains By Proxy, LLC, so to keep the owner of the domain anonymous. This looks to be a dead fansite (last post is over 1 year old), not related to Rovio.

I think that if Rovio was actually planning a AB2 game, then they would hhave procured that domain themself. And given the filename BP_underconstruction(2).jpg, then this is clearly just some leftovers from a “work in progress” name that Rovio considered for Bad Piggies. I don’t think we will get a direct sequel for AB, but rather more theme games like we have gotten thus far, and some drips of new levels to the original game from time till time.

Heya @nilsah, great comment.

I tend to agree the the “Under Construction” image itself is not indicative of a sequel, but the fact that the /angrybirds2 page exists does means something. Someone took the time to create it, and /angrybirds3 doesn’t exist. My 2 cents.

Downloading the image, it says that the date it was made was July 25th, 2012

Saw that. But it takes a while to create a game…

By Bomb Bird

That was two months before Bad Piggies came out.

Actually, I am surprised it took this long.

I would have expected this when Puwer-Ups were introduced.

I think releasing an “Angry Birds 2″ wouldn’t make sense at all. There is an AB2 already, it’s AB Seasons (if we look at the release order). And if they want to add new episodes/levels to the original, they would release that in the form of ABO updates.

Why just new episodes and levels? They can change the physics engine too,but you are right,it wouldn’t make sense if they make Angry Birds 2 and still have the same gameplay as the first one. That is why if they make a sequel it would run on a different engine.

I will say this again and quote myself “Something that we have discussed and expected. ABO have to many episodes, there is no other company that provides free updates for more then three years, it is time for AB 2.”
I do believe this is not cracked egg. Firstly as Vesterbacka answer to @mvnla2 Apple puts restriction to number of LB in GC so they can’t make any new leaderboards for pups and no-pups scores in ABO. They have reached maximum even before they launch BP episode and last listed world is world 18 from Birdday party.
They (obviously?) need new game, new achievements, new leaderboards and let’s hope distinguished scores for pups and “clean” scores.

@cosmo2503 — I like your reasoning! Hope it’s real.

Seriously? That’s like having a bigger big brother bird or a green bomb bird.

I don’t think the creation date of the image matters. Rovio probably just had that ready in case they needed a placeholder image on their website. However, they do need to make a second ABo. They have no more room for achievements or leader boards, the pig and bird sprites are out of date, and the cutscenes allow little creativity. A new game would be great. Maybe the birds will have revamped abilities or something.

Maybe its Angry Birds 2: Friends

Now the ability to compete against friends and make your own levels!

That would be a “hoot” if AB2 would come out. Speculate, they may extend all the games and their levels into part2. The great thing about this ” new stuff” to play, new formats, new challenges to beat and more pigs to destroy. What ever it may end up to be, it will be good. The last update in SW was very enjoyable to play.

If AB2 is made, it’d be awesome if levels from the first one that couldn’t get leaderboards and achievements could be moved to the new one, keeping their scores with the syncing that would likely be done by then if this is real

I don’t think there will be any moving of scores.

It could possibly get a makeover in graphics, similar to Temple Run 1 and 2. Just my personal guess.

By Morph416

It’s possible. I mentioned in a thread quite a while ago, that “birds” has a long way to go.. simply because there are lots of birds, lots of themes, and lots of ideas still yet to be explored. Rovio can pretty much take on the world of birds, using all kinds of enemies.. as the pigs don’t have to be the only ones.
AB doesn’t have to be stuck with a particular season, or tradition.. they’ve barely touched on using specific ones with advertising groups, and there’s still regions to use as well.
AB in the Antarctic, where they help rescue penguins.. things like that.. or down under, where you have to escape from the evil ostriches! :)

Is it possible?? I mean, they’re already teasing us with AB Friends soon coming to the iOS and Android App Stores….

TNT in the picture is exactly the same from Bad Piggies, and none of the AB apps have the same TNT model. And the URL is “BP_underconstruction(2).jpg”. So, there’s a bigger chance that there will be a BP update.

There is too many levels on ABo, therefore its good to release a new app as a continuation. Who knows, maybe ME would land, similar to AB triology.

Rovio has been talking about an Angry Birds sequel for a long time, they said it in a really old article. Now this is something to be looking forward to. A Piglantis themed game, with pirate birds and pigs is what im hoping for.

A new bird and more pigs and new cutscenes, new characters sprite and more episodes with more eggs and birds

I think that Angry Birds 2 might be the egg’s story (how they got them) or about the baby birds that hatch from the eggs.

By Gbird

I think the Angry Birds 2 could take place back when dinosaurs roamed the earth with the birds fighting whatever dinosaur took their eggs. The birds would also look as they would have back then as well.

Profile photo of alfredhartojoRank: Master Slinger with 6910 points

I have to agree with that, but in an other form of story, the pigs created a time machine, and stole the eggs then create chaos across many era, from the dinosaur era to World War 2 XD

Profile photo of AmanRank: Out of this World with 2550 points

@alfredhartojo No, I thinks the game-play will remains same as Angry Birds Original.
Angry Birds 2 may be just new episodes or a new gaming engine or improved graphics or may be new birds also etc.

@amandeep Maybe,I still hope they update the old pig sprites on ABO,and ABS to new ones, they’re much better :)

Profile photo of FlurrtRank: Champion with 3750 points
By Flurrt (@habink)

I don’t think that is possible. They changed the birds sprites on ABo to Google chrome because they were the right size to fit on the sprite sheet. They can’t put the pig sprites on because they are too big, but they could always resize them.

What if the website was just undergoing maintenance?
