Angry Birds (Pay) 2-9
  • Angry Birds (Pay) 2-9 stumps me. The only way I've been able to get 3-stars is to role the black bird down the far right slope and explode it through the black wall to get the pig for 35,080 points. I've spent countless hours busting through the blocks of wood, ice and stone and always get considerably fewer points when I do reach the pig. Yet, I see from the high scores reported, many people reporting above 40,000 and even a high around 50,000. What am I missing in strategy? Or is this one just one with variation on different platforms and with my iPhone I've reached the highest I can expect to reach? Very curious how people get higher scores.

  • Yep, I see the discussions on the walkthrough page. Helpful, but I can't duplicate their strategies to get the same results.

The video walkthrough shows 3-stars being reached using 3 birds busting through all the blocks for slightly more than the 28,000 points required. I was able this evening to duplicate around 28,000 points by breaking through the blocks with 3 birds as the walkthrough demonstrated.

After posting the above, I did go reading many pages back in the "General" topic and found someone who posted a similar question, also showing a YouTube video of 2-9 being solved with 1 bird for 43,000. It showed the black bird landing directly on the bottom of the V and exploding through all the blocks and zapping the pig. I've been dropping the black bird with a direct hit on that same spot and with my iPhone platform, the explosion just won't go through all the blocks to the pig. Close, but no pig.

2-9 is a level in which it would be very interesting to pair the platform with each reported high score. I expect that 2-9 is one of those levels that plays slightly different for different platforms.

Interested in how other iPhone users have succeeded with on 2-9.
  • FWIW - Our walkthrough videos are currently all done on an iPhone, so in this case I don't think a platform discrepancy is to blame. Some levels are just a pain in the butt and not every hit creates the same level of damage. Just keep at it and it'll happen.
  • BirdLeader, the 2-9 walkthrough gets to just slightly over 28,000 points on 3 birds, not the 1 bird for 40,000+ points. What I'm wondering is if the 40,000+ points can be earned on an iPhone.
  • I use an iPhone 4 and my score on 2-9 is 41,470. I got this a long time ago, but if I remember right, it took me probably 100 tries to get the first bomb bird to land in exactly the right spot. So... assuming Rovio has not otherwise tweaked this level since I got my high score, 40,000+ is definitely possible on the iPhone for this level.
  • I guess 1 bird solution is not possible after update. Like you all said, you got the score >40k, but "long time ago". Can you still score >40k now?
  • After reading this post re 2-9, I went back and had a go at getting a higher score with only 1 bird. (I have the PC Angry Birds CD -ROM v1.5.3) so no, it’s not the iPhone - Previously my top score was only 29,090 which gave me 3 stars and I’m pretty sure that took 3 birds to bust through all the blocks and hit the pig.

Today, after many attempts, the bird landed on the top of the pyramid, exploded but did not destroy all the blocks and yet the pig died and the screen immediately went to the Level Cleared window and gave me a score of 41,440. Question is, is that a glitch? To kill a pig must it always be touched or can it sometimes die through shock waves. I do notice that sometimes when you bomb the top of the pyramid of blocks in this level that whilst some are destroyed, the remaining untouched/intact bunch of blocks move down. Maybe that’s how it works – i.e. the whole bunch just pushes him. However I could have sworn that the pig was not touched! Like I said, I think it’s a glitch.
  • Not a glitch, there are many levels on which the shockwave will push surrounding pigs and boulders and cause damage or destruction.
  • OK, thanks sal9.
