Harnessing the Powers of the Birds - Tips for the "Non-Cheaters"
-
@BlueBird post about being stuck on a level and @MUFC got me thinking about a possible addition helpful addition to the site. The argument of Walkthroughs being cheating or not will always be up for discussion but there are many "techniques" used in the games.
In my case I watch most of the walkthroughs and still to this day have picked up a new tricks from the admins that makes completing levels easier. @BlueBird was stuck on a level with all white birds & didn't want to use the walkthrough yet. I felt that I never used the white bird to its fullest potential until I watched the video & saw the damage done by the ricochet of the bird & egg.
Would it be helpful to have a "Harnessing the Powers of The Birds Section" for new players who don't want to use the walkthroughs. Leave your examples below & maybe we can make a nice tutorial for new comers.
My examples:
Red - strength - ?, weakness - ?
tip - Red can best be used to damage visible tips of long horizontal supports to help collapse structure & topple tall structures by targeting the top 1/3.
Blue - strength - ice; weakness - wood, stone;
tip - 1 bird causes less damage than 3 so splitting just before contact causes the most damage, even more than not splitting at all
Yellow - strength - wood; weakness - ice, stone;
tip - accelerating (further or closer?) to contact causes most damage
Terrance - strength - wood, ice, stone
tip - using him in a horizontal shot leads to more damage than having a vertical impact on structures
Orange - strength - wood, ice?; weakness - stone
tip - shooting him into a position where he is surrounded on all sides will lead to the most damage
White - strength - wood, ice, stone
tip - shoot white so that her egg & body can cause damage after releasing the egg. Shooting her into the wedge of structures will cause the egg to break the support & her body to finish it off creating more damage
Black - strength - stone; weakness - ice, wood
tip - while black does have high damage to all structures he is best utilized by breaking through stone getting him into a surround position then detonating

Very good - some notes
Orange - he may not do much damage to stone, but if wedged properly he can cause stone to fly and do damage to wood ice etc...
White - there is method known as the "bloated bird technique", where she is used like a red bird without releasing her payload.
Yellow (and White) - there is a method known as "shooting the moon" where the slingshot is pulled down as close to vertical as possible and the bird activated immediately after firing, often to reach some ridiculously high pig or golden egg.
Green - Can be shot backwards from the slingshot (to the left of the screen) and then activated to reverse direction and fly in a pretty much straight line. -
@CmdrBond - "Green - Can be shot backwards from the slingshot (to the left of the screen) and then activated to reverse direction and fly in a pretty much straight line. "
Someone, somewhere on this board, named that move, but for the life of me, I cannot think of it.... -
Nice, forgot green
Green - strength - ice, wood; weakness - stone
Tips - Green is the second strongest in terms of "pushing power" when trying to knock a structure over. If shot straight, without using power, he has good strength against downed debris. When activated he tends to have a more horizontal path when shot more vertically & a more curved path after being shot more horizontally.
Side note - I personally feel that he has a different tragectory in mobile versions (breaks quicker) compared to Chrome (takes longer to break)
Terrance, Green, Red - I find them to be most useful when connecting with the side of horizontal supports ie. aiming for the wooden beam between a top and bottom stone block will take it down while you may "doink" off the individual stone block. -
@ChaosTsar... is it the "Remi" shot or something along those lines? Named after someone who promoted it? I recall this too but I'll never be able to find it again.

For Space
Blue, Red, Black, Terrance - Used the same as AB courterpart
Purple - tip, once targeted gravity does not affect him, BUT once contact is made with anything gravity pull him.
Froshh - tip, if contacted perfectly he can ice & collapse structures upon impact. -
It has been called the "RRS" or Reverse Remi Shot - see the first comment in this walkthrough:

That's it! Thanks PlayDBird! That was bugging me....
-
I know how that feels.....

Tip on Orange bird, if triggered immediately prior to hitting a structure, can launch the entire structure forward to destroy other srtuctures with flying debris.

Hi lostgreybird,
Brilliant idea this thread. I was just thinking about this today when I noticed in one of the Facebook Golden Egg levels that Red Bird was doing a lot of bouncing and I had never realised how well he could bounce - this was off stone walls/platforms.
This guide would be greatly appreciated by a lot of players as Rovio do not seem to think instructions are necessary. I know it can be fun to learn as you go and Rovio do have their little picture show explanations but this thread is so much better.
I hope Admin likes this too - it could perhaps be placed under the Guides drop down.
Thanks -
I agree. It came to my mind when I was finding some space levels to be easier when your able to use the purple bird as a projectile after contact that is affected by the gravitational pull. If I knew this before it would have made my first time through better.

@angrypig @BirdLeader Please advise: It would be nice to add some of this info to glossary, but looks like you might not be incorporating any more updates??? Also which name works in forum
-
@mvnla2 I appreciate your hard work on this. I have learned many new AB terms.

I wonder is it even possible to get three stars on all the levels in the entire game??? I only have the pc version of the games and therefore can't use the mighty eagle. Has anyone achieved three stars on all levels without cheating or using mighty eagle?
-
@birdyboo93 -- Lots of people have 3* on all levels of all games mobile and IOS; not necessarily all the FB and other special web versions. ME does not help you get 3*, just the feather for TD. I don't think any members of ABN cheat -- they wouldn't last long here if they did.
Good luck! the walkthroughs and comments will help you get all stars and above average score if you are ambitious. -
Mighty eagle really doesn't contribute to getting three stars!! I didn't know that.
-
Mighty eagle scores in a percentage of total destruction. 100% will give you a feather, it will also pass the level for you if your having trouble. What I do is get 3* on all levels and go back through a second time getting 100% with the eagle looking for golden eggs. It adds a nice gratifying replay value to the game.
