  • @Kelani, where are you? Today's level was your request!
  • @Rat, have you tried my method for playing with the right thumb? Lock your screen so it doesn't rotate when you move your iPad around. Put AB in normal orientation, then rotate iPad 180 degrees. Now the sling will be on your right hand side -- problem solved. Don't say I never did anything for you.
  • @burpie Hopelessly busy last night and this morning. Don't worry, I've scheduled a block of time this afternoon to fail horribly at that level.

@fenikus of course there's evil code, and #6 is yet another repeating-score level. (I'm calling it RSL from here on out), so you know what to do there. btw, Nice ipad trick there. Between that, a stylus and my eye-tracking glasses idea, surely one of those can get him flinging.
  • Thanks @fenikus. I didn't know I could do that. There's hope for me yet.
  • @fenikus Is there a way to get it from upside down orientation?
  • @burpie Why am I not surprised to see you ruling the puny challengers? Nice refinement you posted. Last time I visited this level, my skills weren't up to the HappyShake strat.

I just got an Anchors weigh-style event. Part of the crab fell on the upper left crystal and started doing that endless bouncy circumnavigation, pushing the pig along with it. No points, though.

@fenikus I finally figured out the probability of all steps occurring in my #19 shot: .00003125% Ya think perhaps my % guesses for each step were a tad low? :)
  • @Rat -- Please remind me when the Space update is expected. I need to plan (panic) appropriately. Thanks.
I've been working on getting above average in Rise of the Clones, but I think it's a lost cause. Too many people using swaps, and more swaps than I have characters. And I refuse to buy characters or telepods.
  • @Kelani @Burpie Was @fenikus pulling my leg or is there a way to orient this I-pad for right hand operation?
  • Thursday @Mvnla2. Start panicking.
  • Awful cloudy out there today. :)
  • Up to #34 on the leaderboard- certainly plenty of room for improvement though. Gotta keep trying!
  • @Rat -- Thanks! Actually Thurs means I can lower the level of panic one notch. For some reason I was thinking it was supposed to come out Wed.
  • @Rat, ah yes, the upside-down problem. Didn't @Kelani say last night there would be payback? He said nothing about excluding the Trojan Horse technique ;) (Dammit, @hunnybunny was right, you can manipulate anything or anyone…now I actually feel bad. Sorry).

On a serious note: http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=127812. I figure a guy like you who is thoroughly vested in AB might actually try something like this.

p.s. Or you can get your hands on an Arabic version of AB. (Spoiler alert: I'm pulling your leg again).
  • @mvnla2 whyfor are you going to panic over the Space update?
  • @fenikus I found a site awhile back where you can build an eye-tracking bluetooth headset for about $35. That's what he really needs. I'd build him one, but I don't have the right testing equipment.
  • Lo and behold, you can actually buy a pair of "upside down" goggles nowadays. @Kelani, with my iPad "trick" and these goggles (http://www.psychkits.com/inversion_goggles.html), @Rat can play with his right thumb for $25.

Edit: there is a more expensive version that will let you see upside-down OR reversed left-to-right: http://www.gizmag.com/reversing-goggles-upside-down/21595/.
  • @Kelani -- The reason for panic is that I have spent too much time playing Rise of the Clones since it came out, and therefore my list of real-life chores is getting alarmingly long and some have timers about to explode. My normal response to a new episode is to complete 3* and feathers the day it comes out. With Space I don't have to worry about the feathers because I'm not paying for Space Eagle.
  • @kelani did you just refer to me as "a puny" challenger? Second on the challenge board, snapping at @rat's heel on the leaderboard (as always!)
And where are you? Ah, just behind me...
Hope it gives you some incentive to get that puppy!
  • Hello @all! How's the new Space update flinging coming along? I see @kelani clawing his way up the ladder. C'mon, I know you can de-throne happyshake from the top! What are you going to name your puppy when you get there? LOL

@fenikus, geez, talk about messin' with your brain. I think those goggles would make me so disoriented, I'd be beating myself up bumping into everything! Kinda the same effect as if I were hanging upside down or walking on the ceiling. Ouch!
  • @fenikus nice job! I PM'ed you two other options, but yours looks like a winner. Of course @Rat will say something like "they won't fit on my fat head", or "they'd break my glasses" or something. :)
  • @kelani, I've tried flinging Red into the top marmoset on the pole, but can't seem to create enough "force" as you put it. The pole pushes the metal wire into where the plank and stone ball meet, which triggers a very slow collapse but not enough to fall onto the far right tower. Where exactly are you hitting the marmoset?
  • @SweetP, apparently our brains adjust and after a week or so of "upside-down" vision, it starts flipping things the "right way". And then when you take off the goggles, it flips back to upside-down vision! That randi.org forum post I mentioned above has some really interesting references (it takes a while to open, but it eventually does).

There's nothing wrong with hanging upside down, I do it all the time :) I have what's called an inversion table and "gravity" boots so I "hang" for 15-20 minutes each day. It's really good for boosting circulation, especially of the lymph node system.
  • @fenikus, but doesn't it make you feel dizzy when you return upright? I know many people swear by it, especially for bad backs because it stretches the spine. But all of that blood rushing out of my head when I stand up would make me faint!

@kelani well, I did get that one-birder from hitting that marmoset, and what do I get? 111360 freakin' points! Ugh! WWWHHHIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • @SweetP Directly through the upside-down marmoset, but anywhere from his head to the pole tip will punt the wire into the stone. The lighter the wire taps, the better. It affects how fast the wood block slides. If it's slow enough, it'll get stuck diagonally, then the shaking makes it fall into the gap. The structure balanced on the stone ball starts falling left, and those three stone blocks at top fall and see-saw it rightward. I can get that type of fall maybe 6 out of 10 tries.

Annoyingly, the center structure base frequently survives, but the stone ball or debris will sometimes crush it. What I like is how everything falls to the right with force. You also get an extra shot at a 1-birder. The pole can still push the tower, and you have a good shot at debris hitting the tower's cardboard base.

It's no miracle strategy. Average 1st bird scores are lower, and it may still take a lot of attempts, but I've got 94k and a few 136-138k 2birders in the ~50 times I tried it.

edit: aww! Mean 'ol level. :)
  • @fenikus you're so good at finding stuff, find me a Tivo with built-in DVD burner that wasn't made pre-2008. Mom has a 2008 model Humax DRT-800 she loves, but it's Std. Def, 1 tuner, 80 hour. I'm 99% sure that was the last Tivo w/burner made by any mfr. but she still wants me to find a newer one. *sigh*
  • @SweetP, you get used to it as with all things. And you can bring yourself to upright position gradually…I usually spend 30 seconds in horizontal before I return. I also sometimes do sort of crunches and other exercises while inverted, which helps your inner ear adjust.

Btw, very cool article/video re: Skype Translator.
  • @Kelani, I'm pretty sure there isn't a high-def TiVo with built-in DVD burner. But why not just get a regular one and install a huge external hard drive? I don't' think she'd need anything transferred to a DVD for a loooong time.
  • Thanks for the detailed description @kelani. Just not happenin' for me today. Ah well, there's always another day, or hour. I'll have to revisit this revisit from the last revisit's revisit etc. (yeah, you got it!) later on.
BTW, DirecTV has a TIVO DVR. Don't know what it costs, but it's out there somewhere for you.

@fenikus, sounds like something hubby should invest in. He has a bad back, and would probably benefit greatly from it! Better than the painkillers and muscle relaxers he takes when it gets really bad.
If that translator device works, we could travel just about anywhere in the world! It would be quite expensive, though.
  • Well, back to flinging.

Have a good WHINNNEEEE Tuesday @all, and good luck in Space!
  • Thanks again @fenikus. I finally figured out how to right the screen on the I-pad. Or should I say SWDNF got it turned around. It's not what you know, it's who you know.
  • @kelani my goad worked ha ha :-))))))
  • @fenikus I've been trying to sell her on youtube, hulu, Chromecast and such to cut down on the burning, but she wants to take DVDs to my grandmother. I estimate she has 800 VHS and 2,000 burned DVDs. Mostly rare movies, old Olympics and Ice Skating. I'm sure if she knew what a raid array was, she'd want one. A few years ago, I got her a nice DVD burner/editor that used DVD-RAM & an internal HD, but she doesn't want to learn how to use it. *head explodes*

I did see a high end whole-home DVR with blu ray burner, but it costs more than any sane person should pay for such a thing..or even a new car :)

@SweetP She has a Tivo, but it has a built-in dvd burner that's integrated w/Tivo. That's what she wants, but they quit making them.
  • @hunnybunny it did. What's with all our xx,x20 scores, anyway? @bernersenn and birdMeister have them too. It looks weird. :)
  • @fenikus @kelani albeit I actually started the worlds most boring pain killer debate ( but it did stem from a hangover cure from the worlds best ever Spanish wedding ) defunct electrical equipment and math(s) probability are also likely to send OB, the blues, Kathy and every BP patron to sleep. For a very long time.....................
Thereby leaving you two to debate forever
  • @Rat, glad you got it sorted out. Sounds like SWDNF is The One to know. I also eventually did figure it out but thought the upside-down goggles option was more fun ;)
  • Mrs. Bunny, forever or at least until @Kelani's head exploded ;)
  • @fenikus Excedrin would get us banned. Math would get us shot. :) I got that number using a probability calculator that did what you described. The result is too low, so either I got really lucky (not likely) or my inputs were off (very likely). Either way, it's a ballpark guess, which is what I wanted. I will definitely bug you about the next "what are the odds" situation I come across.

@hunnybunny so... you're saying I shouldn't mention that adding machine my mom's boss just gave me to fix? :)

    People here should learn to skim or speed read! :P Or, we could just start prefacing each comment with a tag: {Interesting} {Stupid} {Inside Joke} {Perverse} {Boring as Hell}
  • {boring as hell} The adding machine sounds interesting
  • {irritated} can't get an extra point since I goaded @kelani on the challenge
  • {Perverse}{ly}{Boring as Hell} @Kelani, if that probability calculator really gave you the number as you wrote it (expressed as percentage), it's dead wrong.
  • @Rat9, I saw what you did there :-)
  • Thanks @Sweetp for shining up my flashlight and setting out the earplugs :)
    K get ready. .
    WWWwwwHhhhhhiiiiiinnnnneeeee WWWwwwHhhhhhiiiiiinnnnneeeee
Level #5 is Frustrating !!!!; I hit it perfect 9/10 times and Pth Pth Pth Nuttin'
OB I'll have a Marmoset killer please and yes an extra shot of Malibu please; )
    Hi everyone:)
  • @burpie You saw that too? Somewhere out there, a Rodent is flinging.

@fenikus The calc gave me .00003125 I added the %, which says a lot about my math non-ability. Was that trashtalk quote that thing you said awhile back? I've often wondered what'd happen if the Sling scope was removed from Space, aside from all the players being involuntarily committed.

@hunnybunny {Sing-songy} That's what you get for goading meee. :) @Rat aside, extra points are gonna be tough to get from here on out.
btw, For your adding machine crack, use {Sarcasm}. It wasn't boring at all...just a bit mean :o)
  • {stupid} Rat creeps up the leaderboard. Amazing what an upside down iPad, strange glasses and a thumb implant can do in thirty minutes
  • Wahooio the WWWwwwHhhhhhiiiiiinnnnneeeee worked! !;)
  • {very confused} ABN just sent me a notification saying BR is available on PC from 25th April
