Don't know if anyone noted this yet, but I was running the numbers on the times for the different animals and noticed a pattern. Every bump in the level of the animal drops the time by exactly 10% of the initial time. For example, the Bunny Beast starts out at level 1 as 12.0 per hour, or 5 minutes. Five minutes is 300 seconds. At level 2, it jumps to 13.3 per hour, or 4:30. That's 300-30=270 seconds. Similarly, level 3 is 240 seconds, level 4, 210, and level 5 180. The Giralephant starts out at 8.0 per hour, or 7:30 -- 450 seconds. Each level drops 45 seconds after that, to 60% (4:30) at level 5. This occurs for every animal I have encountered up to and including the Land Whale (haven't caught a Sharkodile yet).
This also helps clarify the mechanic behind the 5% decorations, as the 5% is taken off of the original time, so the amount removed is constant for each animal no matter the level. Each decoration for a Bunny Beast will *always* take off 15 seconds, whether it's at level 1 or level 5.
Don't know how this will help anyone unless they're trying to keep from hitting any bottlenecks (although an eventual berry bottleneck is pretty much unavoidable), but I thought it interesting, and worth sharing. -
@quigonkenny interesting observation... Nice one.
@Samot Not finished everything yet...
My forklift is done,
All animals are maxed in production and evolved homes except:
Whale thing at level 1
Sharkodiles all at level 4
2 Fishcat homes fully evolved,1 has 84 hrs till fully evolved, two at level 4 and one at level 2
2 Zeavers are evolving to second stage (96 and 66 hours left)1 not evolved. All at level 3.
Takes ages to get the last few animals to higher levels, but am glad to have the time to do it till the next upgrade, it would be even longer if the food was needed for other tasks..
How are you going with completing it all? -
I'm pretty much done. Everything is completely leveled up and evolved. Just waiting for the final evolve of the zeavers. I thought I wouldn't have much to do since all my cave items are maxed out, but then i started selling off mud, sticks and fish to make coins. Even though you can't store more soup than the cave max allows, you still get the coin rewards...3000 to 5000 bucks in some cases. The bank took a hit evolving the zeavers, so i'm making up for that now. Also keeping the whale and bear owl chugging out coins occupies the time between innings.

Hey all, updates aren't purely Rovio's decision. It's more up to DreamWorks. And it all depends on the sponsorship deal they forged with Rovio. 100% pure speculation on my part, but my bet is the game update will be a week or two before the DVD release which is estimated to be July 23. For reference, the movie came out March 22, the game on March 14th. Keep in mind the real purpose of the free game is to generate purchases of movie tickets and DVD sales. (That's why this game isn't littered with advertising for other games.) So, to me it makes sense that movie trailers and game updates would occur in the couple weeks prior to dates that DreamWorks deems important.
-
@abirdnerd: [quote] That's why this game isn't littered with advertising for other games [unquote]
Everytime I start up the game it shows advertisments of other games, try for free!!
And I hope you're wrong about the release being 2 weeks before the DVD release.........because that would mean that we have to wait at least another 6 weeks.
@samoht, is there a reason why you don't have the max amount of animals allowed?
I've got the max amount of animals except the BearOwl and the LandWhale, of those I've got 1 of each.
-
Is there a limit on each kind of animal? I just tamed another girelephant but can't build his home. I thought maybe I just had too many evolves going, but even now that they are done I can't build his home. :( I really needed him to keep up on leaves for my pups to make bones for the sharks. ARGH!
-
@beccalynn you can't have more than 5 giralephant homes(level 20)
What level are you?( sorry for bad english) -
Thanks Namoh. I ended up trapping them both. At this point in level 21 even if i complete Gran's 'quests', I will wait to collect my reward until the new levels come out - that way I don't lose my XP. Which means I may have to stay away from the game for a while - which might not be a bad thing. :)
-
You don't have too, if you don't want too.
Do you have both your Berry Bushes evolved to 50?
If so and you've got enough crystals left I would get it.
The Land Whale gives a steady amount of coins, especially when evolved to max 1000.
I just like to have at least 1 of each animal, that's why I got the Land Whale and the Bear Owl, although the Bear Owl is pretty useless (in my opinion). -
I have the forklift complete and waiting for the update to experience it. All creatures at max production, and all homes at max evolution with the exception of the Zeavers.
I have one Zeaver at second tier production, two evolving to second (will be done in a few days). I haven't decided yet if I'll evolve the Zeaver homes to max or not. I log in at least once a day and even at second level they never run out of fish (food), so it seems rather pointless (to me) to spend the coins on the last evolve. Not to mention the time spent out of production while they evolve!
I have both berry bushes at 50. I got the Bear Owl and max'd it out but never use it. I feel the berries are better used for production than the tiny amount of coins the Bear Owl gives.
Unlike most of y'all, I have no Land Whales. I built a home for one before I realized what they do and that you have to spend crystals for their trap. I can't justify the crystal cost, and I even bought a package of crystals! I wasted far too many before they fixed the accidental use of them, and I'm holding the ones I have left to see what the update requires in the way of crystals.
I don't recall who mentioned making soup even though the Cave is full, just for the coins, but that's what I'm doing too. I use mostly sticks, mud, and fish because of the higher coin value. I guess I do that instead of spending crystals on the Land Whale. :p Anyways I have upwards of 500k coins now. A decent portion of that will get taken if I decide to max evolve the Zeavers, still not decided on that one yet.
The game's pretty boring right now so I'm not spending much time with it. I really *really* hope there's some new and different element in the update, because if it's more of the same (trap > build > feed > evolve > wait wait wait) only even longer waiting, I think I'll be done with it.
Thanks to everyone for their contribution to this thread, you've all been really helpful.
-
Jet, the only thing that the Zeaver evolution gives you is more storage space and is totally not worth the evolution wait time and the cost in production loss. Since Zeavers produce so slowly, I rarely have them hungry for long. And I totally agree with you, this update is going to have to be different and great because if it's more of the same (or worse, even longer wait times), then I will be uninstalling.
-
@ samoht: I have one fish cat with orange dorsal fin, the other two are in blue. If you take a closer look, the shapes of the orange and blue dorsal fins are different too! I guess only the developers of the game will know why.
Furthermore, the fish cat homes are the only ones that does not change in appearance whether you evolve it once or twice. -
Are there any unannounced tasks?
This one was mentioned by namoh earlier. When you plant a total of 50 decorations (including the one you have removed), there will be a message flash on the screen, “Achievement Complete – Plant Total of 50 Decorations”.
I just came across another one, “Achievement Complete – Plant Total of 50 Traps”. Just the message but there are no rewards. -
@samoht, @oskray
Actually all creatures have subtil differences, more obvious with giraelephants, sharkodiles, catfish and zeavers
As for the catfish home, check the mud holes.
L1 only right hole that bubbles.
L2 left and right holes.
L3, not there yet but guessing that top hole will also bubble.
Thanks all for the tricks, wish i found this thread earlier. -
@oskray, those are not chores from Gran but those are Game Achievements from the Game Center! (abirdnerd posted this in this thread, so all kudos to him/her).
If you log on to The Croods and you're also logged in to the Game Center you can see all achievements via: clicking on the top left icoon and then click on the trophee -
@Namoh: I can’t get into the Game Centre even though I have signed-in with my email and password. When I touch on the trophy, it says “Game Centre Unavailable – Player is not signed in”. In fact, I have written to Rovio and they replied that Game Centre is a separate service provided by Apple. Yours is an android device?

Here's where I'm at:
9 Molarbears - all at level 5, all homes fully evolved
5 Bunny Beasts - all at level 5, all homes fully evolved
6 Giralephants - all at level 5, all homes fully evolved
4 Albatroceroses - all at level 5, all homes fully evolved
5 Crocopups - all at level 5, all homes fully evolved
5 Sharkodiles - two at level 5, three at level 3, all homes fully evolved
3 Fishcats - one at level 4, two at level 3, all homes fully evolved
3 Zeavers - two at level 3, one at level 1, two homes in the process of fully evolving, one at 2nd level
3 Owl Bears - all at level 1, all homes fully evolved
2 Land Whales - both at level 1, both homes fully evolved
The game is incredibly imbalanced IMHO. You can never have berry production keep up with your Molarbears, let alone Bear Owls. The fact that three animals feed off leaves doesn't help matters that much either.
I think that if carrot production is simply:
1 berry + Molarbear + time = 1 carrot
Then the production of a stone should just be:
1 carrot + Bunny Beast + time = 1 stone
And the production of a leaf should just be:
1 carrot + Giralephant + time = 1 leaf
It really shouldn't be 2 and 3 carrots for the next steps in production. The cost should simply be the time.
I also wish I had known that the recipes for soup were going to get exponentially more costly as I went up in levels or else I would have stockpiled soup at the earlier levels and made sure to evolve my animals more as I went along.
I'm currently working towards evolving the rest of my Sharkodiles, and the after that I'm going to get my third Zeaver up to level 3 and then once the other two homes evolve, start the evolution on the third home.
I'm hoping that I'll at least be finished with all of that before the update comes out.
When the update does come out, I hope the new area offers another berry bush and that none of the new animals feed off berries.
Lastly, and I apologize for the long post, I hope at one point when you finally unlock one of the kids they allow you to "put the kid to work" auto-feeding the animals while you're not logged into the game. Heck just having the kid pick berries and feed them to the Molarbears would be awesome.
-
PeterJohn what an awesome idea!!!!!!! Make the kids do the feeding!!!!! I am SICK to death with having to log in and spread the berries around to get the carrots to get the leaves, etc., etc. What a waste of time with no actual gameplay or FUN! I hope they take that suggestion into account. Maybe you should send them your résumé!
-
@PeterJohn0, that's a nice setup with all those animals!
Can you make screenshots of how you organised your homes?
I guess you don't have all the decorations to give maximum boost (extra 15% speed) because there's no room for it with all those animals (or did you find a way to do this?)
Btw, I guess you paid for some crystals, correct? You wouldn't be able to get 3 Owl Bears and 2 Land Whales without it.
I'm a bit jealous on your Owl Bears and Land Whales, they're the easiest way to get some decent amount of money. -
Btw, I thought they solved the "accidently" loosing crystals by tapping?
I found at least one way where you don't get a confirmation and I lost again crystals, ok to be honest it was just 1 this time, but still!!
When you feed your molarbear with berries and you ran out of berries you get the message "Not enough resources! You are missing 1".
Then you got two options:
1. Get now! which costs 1 crystal and
2. Fill up! which costs 2 crystals.
I accidently tapped the Get now and directly 1 crystal was taken without any confirmation. So watch out!!
I've lost so many crystals by accidently tapping, I should get 6 fully evolved Berry Bushes and 50000 crystals as compensation...............but I'll settle with 2 fully evolved Berry Bushes and enough crystals (and space!) to get the max amount of Bear Owls and Land Whales after the new release/update!! :) -
@Namoh - yes, I bought a bag of crystals and used it to get my Bear Owls and Land Whales.
I do have a good number of decorations, just not enough or with the homes oriented "correctly" so that all the animals benefit.
My Giralephants, Albatroceroses, Crocopups and Zeavers Are all oriented with deorations so they each have a 15% boost. At the moment, I'm a bit land-locked with no room to move, so I would have been grateful if the forklift just gave you access to a third plateau you could expand your farm to (and of course a third berry bush).
I do have a fair amount of Molarbear boosting decorations but they produce so fast that, like I said in my previous post, what limits them is berry production. The Bunny Beasts are oriented around a pair of their decorations and I have so much surplus stone, that's good enough for me. I wish I could do more to boost my Sharkodiles, but there's just not enough room, and my orientation of Fishcats has two of the three with the full 15% boost while the third has only 10% boost.
So I'm doing okay in that regard, but I wish I could do better.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to take a screenshot from your iPad? I've seen people do it, just never figured it out myself. I'd be happy to take screen shots of my layout.
-
@PeterJohn0, I don't have an Ipad, but if you google on "making photo with ipad" I think you'll get the solution.
I'm curious about your setup! -
@PeterJohn0 To take a screenshot with an iPad: Press the Home button and the Power button simultaneously. You'll find your image in the camera album.
-
Thanks @sal9 I never knew you could do that...
Here are the shots of my Croods farm...

Note: the top right two Sharkodiles and the bottom left two Sharkodiles in the diagonal are all boosted 15%, but the middle one has only 5% boost thanks to how close the rock is. The Fishcat that is in the "middle" of the "reverse L" that the homes make only has a 10% boost, the other two are 15%
The Zeavers:

Note: the wooden pole used to be over by the Land Whales, but I ran out of room, hoping I'll be able to put it to use after the update and we, fingers crossed, get more room

I have these "just because", I rarely ever feed them since I'm always short berries and leaves. Like I mentioned in my previous post, the homes are fully evolved just because I could.
Because I've been converting resources to soup to level up my animals, the gold coin currency isn't really an issue. In fact with 400k+ banked, when I kick off the last Zeaver home evolution, I doubt I'll even notice the loss of the almost 60K.
If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask...

New here, but been playin' on my Ipad since the announcement. Started on android phone a bit later to do crystals better and get those bushes evolved rightly.
I've googled for hints etc and this place seems to be the most informative and with lots of comments.
With only 300 berries / hour from each maxed bush, I need over one hours collection converted up to leaves just to load up my gators ONCE. Its gotten so tiresome, I just login whenever and do what I can. It's now nip and tuck just having enough leaves to just feed the 'engine' each time.
Still soupin' for the moment until the rest is full up. Hopefully enough to pay for all the zeavers to be moved to L2, Good for 3/4 day.
Ipad still chuggin' along nearing 0.3million coins. Trying to build bigger inventory of sticks as that will be the new bottleneck like the leaves. But its real slow going. -
@PeterJohn0, nice setup!!
@beccalynn, I had the same idea, about sharing some decorations, the log would be a good example. The problem is that I don't have any room to move around houses, everything is full. :( I think I could squeesh more animals at the available land, but I can't try it without removing some. :(
I hoped the Friendly Neighboor would show us the "perfect" setup but unfortunately he doesn't. -
Hi Everyone,
Nice to see lot of people playing croods and I am not the only one.....
I am in level 21 now and now all it says is coming soon :( ......do we know what is the date rovio or dreamworks planning to launch the new version ....... I am really used to this game now and want to see the new level....
Also if someone can tell what about the XP's we use to get till level 21..... By collecting items, or for every unsuccessful attempt to catch An animal.....game is not giving those now.....so all you are now is stuck on level 21.....
Can anyone comment?
Jimmy -
@PeterJohnO: From the pictures, I can see most of your 9 Molarbears each has 99+ carrots and similarly your 5 Bunny Beasts each has 99+ rocks. Your cave’s storage has another 150 carrots and 110 rocks. May I know what’s the reason for keeping them stock up to the hundreds or even thousands?
Would it not be an advantage to trade with Ugga to get soup/coins and level up your creatures within the shortest time possible? Thanks. -
@oskray - yes, whenever Ugga gives me a recipe of carrots, stones or both, I most certainly trade them in for soup. The problem is that she rarely asks for those lower level items, it's always sticks, fish, bone and leaves she seems to be after.
I've been thinking about "starving" the 2nd zone animals for a little while so I can build up back stock of leaves and then once I'm set with leaves, slowly bring back in the rest of the animals in the order of the food chain.
I would probably take forever, but it would at least let me get "ahead" of production instead of always playing catch-up.
-
@PeterJohnO: If you do not like the recipe Ugga gives, you can refresh it by clicking on the light green icon at the top right corner of the recipe. Just wait 5 minutes and you’ll will get a new set of recipe.
