  • Can you provide any details whatsoever?
  • I am amused by the complete lack of specifics. Depending on the class for which you will be doing the project, consider these options:

Physics: Show that 2 angry birds shot from slingshots at the same time at a horizontal trajectory will hit the ground at the same time regardless of their velocity.

Biology: Show how different wing shapes allow different birds to fly differently. Compare the Mighty Eagle with the Bald Eagle. Show how the birds may have evolved to have their special abilities.

History: Compare the pigs' theft of the eggs to various colonizers stealing from native peoples.

Social Studies: Compare the eggs with other societal symbols. Discuss how they are a social metaphor.

Psychology: Discuss the reason behinds the birds' anger. Is it really all about the theft of the eggs? Why did the pigs steal the eggs? Is it more than simple hunger?

Foreign Language: Discuss how the birds' grunting/screaming language was born. Discuss how they communicate.

Economics: Discuss the economic value of the eggs. Why must the birds work so hard to recover them rather than just produce more?

Statistics: Discuss why of dozens of birds fired into the exact same spot on a level will only rarely yield massive collateral damage.
  • @sasquatch519 -- I think you need some kind of badge for putting the most thought into a response to what has to be one of the vaguest posts ever. Nicely done.
  • We don't even know what school level/grade this is for.
  • Thanks to everyone who responded , however when I posted I wanted to see if anyone was willing to help. This is for an English group paper and we were wanting to know all of the ins and outs of this very popular game. I do not really play online games so tell tell me how did you get started, what made you want to play and why is this game challenging to you.
  • I got started because I learned that it was a world wide craze and I I found the game to be quite satisfying and it followed the laws of physics. The challenge of the game is that drive to get s higher score and not just settle for three stars.
  • I learnt about the game long before I had a device that I could play it on. Once I had a device, I had to download it to see what all the hype was about.

The game itself is such a simple game, following a game mechanic that is pretty old and catapult style games have been around since the dawn of computing - I am sure there were games available for the Commodore, ZX Spectrum or BBC Micro in which you input an angle of trajectory and a power value and try to hit your opponents defenses.

The most recent popular version of this style of game, but done with cute characters, silly voices and an array of silly weapons was Worms. And that was insanely popular too, spawning many spin-offs.

Back to AB - I like the challenge of not just completing the level, but getting 3 stars. And since finding this site, I am addicted to getting above average scores as well. (I would like to attain all the high scores, but that is never going to happen so average scores it is).

By the way, it s not really what I would call an online game - while the browser based versions such as facebook and chrome versions might be considered to be, I class online games to be more like MMORPG's such as Everquest - where you compete or co-operate with other players at the same time.
  • why do you think that angry birds has become so popular among all ages?
  • Well, because of It's advertising. I only looked into AB because of the plush toys that were everywhere from Walmart to Claw games! I tried the game, and I was hooked from then on.
  • Another reason for the game's popularity – It’s easy to learn, but difficult to master. Also, the constant free updates adding more levels keeps the game fresh.
  • i have known Angry Birds long before owning a device
  • Thanks to all that responded, however I need more views on whats makes AB popular and what made you start playing this game?
  • See this old forum by Witek, who is / was doing a master's thesis on AB popularity. You can't send him a message directly, but you could ask Slim or BL to forward a message to him. Go to About / Contact, and fill in the e-mail form asking them to forward your message to Witek, include your message to Witek and your e-mail address in message. I'm sure he would be willing to contact you directly and share what he found out.

As for me: I started because when I got an Iphone, other people in my family (adults) said I had to try AB (as well as several other games). I like AB because it is generally based on physics (although there are sometimes random elements -- see forum on unstable and self-destroying levels), and requires as much logic as skill. If you try for 3 stars on every level, not to mention above average (for ABN) scores or heaven-forbid, a high rank on the ABN leaderboard, it can be quite challenging.
  • i was bored and got angry birds on my phone the day it came out.it pretty hard do to the bird they give you and the pigs structure.my phone has broke so i now play it on my PC.
  • @pfloyd contact me at super at witek dot org and I'll give you some interesting statistics
  • @pfloyd Witek is Polish, so English is not his native language. Not entirely clear what he means by "super" in his post. If you have trouble contacting him. Please let us know.
BTW, how is your paper going? When is it due? What grade are you in?
  • @mvnla2 that's his email address. I don't see an issue.
  • How long can I blame stupidity on jet lag?
