Exclusive Angry Birds Roost Companion App Coming to Lumia Smartphones

Nokia and Rovio have teamed up to offer exclusive Angry Birds content to some Nokia smartphone owners. With the upcoming launch of Nokia’s two flagship smartphones — the Lumia 920 and 820 — they are offering a new companion app called, “Angry Birds Roost”. Angry Birds Roost will be available exclusively on the 920 and 820 for 3-months. After that, we presume it will become available on other Windows-powered Nokia smartphones. It remains to be seen what happens after that.

Note, if anyone out there has access to one of these devices and can us some detailed video and/or screenshots of Roost we would be much obliged. Contact us via the form here.

Angry Birds Roost is a type of hub, which will include to:

  • Ability to purchase and launch individual Angry Birds games: Original, Seasons, and Space (seen at 2:34 in the video above).
  • Walkthrough videos (hopefully ours, but I don’t know for sure).
  • News. Likely from Rovio’s blog, but hey, if they want to grab our news feed they are more then welcome.
  • Downloadable ringtones.
  • An “Angry Cam”, which you can see at 2:32 in the video above. Per the text in the video, “Use the Angry Cam to attack your friends in the real world with Angry Birds! Snap a pic, throw in some birds, and share the laughs!”.
  • Wallpapers and other free downloads for use on the phone.

Angry Birds Roost will be pre-installed on both the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820. At this point in time pricing and availability has not been announced. If you’re really curious about Roost, there is also some additional footage starting around 59:20 in Nokia’s Webcast.

Nokia lost everything, so rovio decided to care about this firm :. I think its good idea, and i hope it will come to android. Angry birds make themselves social – great information for fans

I posted this in the News and Rumor thread last night. Sad because a few of those features look cool, but I’m not about to buy a new Nokia phone just for that (wallpapers, ringtones and taking Bird pictures).

I have noticed that Rovio has video walkthroughs on their Youtube channel, so they will probably use their own videos. Sad that they didn’t just approach ABN. Nest is so much better than Roost anyway, and with the walkthroughs and news, it just seems like a no-brainer. Probably have trademarking issues with that, though..

The camera effects of the Lumia are amazing.. But it dawned on me – Nokia is a Finnish company. So Rovio working with them continues their trend of national pride. Good for them for helping out poor Nokia. Once the King of the Mountain, they have been faltering hard the last few years.

i think they will climb back again not to the top but be among the major contenders.also android will get a hit due to the current apple vs samsung

I’m certain Rovio agrees that Nest > Roost. Right @BirdLeader? ;)

Yeah, pretty sure. :) I would so love to do something like this with Rovio.

Rovio shouldn’t even have to think about working with ABN.

– ABN has SEO locked down for Angry Birds Walkthrough & pretty much anything else Rovio related
– The fans of the site uncover more Rovio news than any other avenue out there. Paired with the admins ability to check the validity makes it the site to watch for Rovio News.
– Not only does ABN have walkthroughs but the comment section of each discussing different strategies is invaluable & increases replay value.
– Lasty, if anyone was ever in need of assistance they get help within 5 minutes. Whether it be help on a level or fixing a bug.

yes ABN IS the ultimate angry birds site also they will have to invest a lot of time in creating walkthrough’s etc there hub, whereas ABN is a readymade hub.so they will use abn instead of creating there own which will take lot of time and money

You’re right, those features are cool, but given that overall it’s a Windows-based phone, I have my concerns about Microsoft’s fault tolerance. In my job, given that I operate in a wide swath of North America, when I have a problem while out deep in the boonies, I need my phone to function reliably, which it does. I know Microsoft has yet to really conquer the fault tolerance issue, as it is still problematic in another device I rely on, the Qualcomm MCP200.

Having said that, I’m willing to keep an open mind about it, given that we’re all talking about a piece of technology that has yet to be released. That doesn’t mean I’m going to abandon my DroidX phone any time soon.

Get an iPhone and abandon the Droid- part of the problem solved :)

Nope, I fully expect to get 10 years out of that DroidX, and so far I’ve only got 2. Besides, I play the HD versions of AB on my iPad. Much easier on the eyes than squinting into such a small screen!

It’s awesome how they included you guys in their Chrome update. Maybe they’ll do something similar here!

Most of the features do what ABN does. Good thing no one owns one of these devices or else it might take eyes away from ABN ;)

Yeah, to be honest, stuff like this gives me grey hairs. Fortunately, Rovio has been very good in helping us out. We help them out in a lot of ways as well, so I’m hoping that this relationship is worth more to them than a few extra dollars. IMO, there is really no substitute to a site for the fans, by the fans.

Time will tell I guess. I just try to keep a positive attitude and things moving forward(read: adding features, improvements, etc.)

In particular, we (try to and often do) add features to ABN by popular request. Not many other fan sites — Angry Birds or otherwise — are so responsive to their community. I don’t think many other fan sites can really use the word “community” either!

Whoa, i have one of those devices, @lostgreybird. I’ve been using their products since the first time i know the brand and still using it today. All the way through ups and downs, i might say. Guess i’ll still be using it up until the brand is no more. Having said that, yes i’m quite a loyal individual. And that counts for the Nest, too. Whether it’ll offer stuffs we usually find here or not, the device and the Nest are totally two different things for me. So long as the Nest can provided us with stuffs like today, no eyes will be taken away. Not mine for sure. See? I’ve made a vow. Look at the positives, mate. They might have their own AB exclusives someday and that would mean the Nest will have new platforms to “plunge” our heads into.

@birdleader and co., keep up the awesome job. You have my full support on this. And else, i think… :D

Four people live in our house and within the last 2 years we’ve all bought new phones. Previously we all had Nokia’s because they “were” the best phones on the market – no matter which one you bought. When we started researching new phones, the reviews and word of mouth on the new Nokias were so bad that none of us bought another Nokia. Until their products improve, I don’t think ABN needs to worry too much about this new phone/app. As much as we all like AB, when buying a new phone, it still has to be a good “phone” not a just a fun gaming device with exclusive apps.

1. Does this App allow comments in a Forum?
2. Does it allow comments with Walkthroughs?
3. Does it have Tutorials, a FAQ, Update/Bug News etc. etc.?

P.S. Is there supposed to be sound with the above video?

Been announced for quite some time. They hired a producer who worked on the Marvel Comics movie to oversee it. First I have heard of a 2015 date though. Everytime they talk about it, the date changes.

The TV Show is coming this fall. One short cartoon per week.

Unless I am missing something, looks like the Roost is Nokia’s version of Apple’s App Store. Used a few Nokias phones in the 1990’s and they were good cell phones. Hope their smart phones makes a hit because competition helps their industry to get better and do great things in relation to phones and smart phones. Glad to see Nokia is trying to get back.
