Good morning and happy Monday to all the devoted (obsessed?) flingers out there! We are greeted this morning to a very rare Monday update, as part of Rovio’s countdown to the launch of Angry Birds Star Wars II. That’s in three days, not that anyone’s counting.
We announced last week that the mixed-reception episode Red’s Mighty Feathers would be receiving an update, and it’s landed today! Angry Birds v3.3.0 is now available for iOS, PC, Mac, and Android via Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
Attention PC Users: Angry Birds has been updated and now requires OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX 11. The OpenGL requirement was actually a BUG and has been fixed in v3.3.3. For more information, see Rovio’s FAQ page explaining OpenGL.
This update includes:
- 15 new levels of Red’s Mighty Feathers! The episode has been adjusted to be the ninth sequential episode, and the new levels are numbered 23-1 through 23-15. Note that you need NOT pass the initial 15 “Egg Defender” levels to access the new levels in this update. Egg Defender levels are listed as non-sequential. Our walkthroughs are live!
- Red’s homing ability has been tweaked so that it is manual aiming, similar to the Lazer Bird in Angry Birds Space. This applies exclusively toward Red’s Mighty Feathers, including the Egg Defender levels.
- Restart Battle Button! In the Egg Defender levels, a new button has been added to the Pause screen that looks like a green flag. This allows you to restart your battle against the current piggy contraption, instead of restarting the entire level from wave 1.
- New Golden Eggs! Keep your eyes open! Rovio has added a 3-star Golden Egg and the first hidden Golden Egg in 9 months!!! Our complete guide is now up-to-date.
- No new achievements for iOS, since ABo is full in GameCenter.
- Still no distinction between Power Up and “clean” scores, besides the lightning bolt that appears on the Level Completed screen.
- Helpful Tip: If you are experiencing any issues with a level not completing promptly, there is a “Fast Forward” button that appears in the bottom-right corner once all pigs have been popped. This will force the level to end, tally your extra birds, and show you your final score. While not a new feature, it can still be helpful!
It’s also worthwhile to note that the next ABo update will be coming in November according to Rovio’s blog.

This Golden Egg has been moved, but is indeed obtainable. See our updated walkthrough for GE-8 for details.
I suffered this bug on iPad, unfortunately. Rovio has responded, saying that the bug effects users who 3-starred all Egg Defender levels prior to v3.3.0. They are working on a fix as we speak.

First time opening the new episode I got a bit of a shock, since it seemed as though all my previously achieved stars were gone. But then I scrolled to the second page (nice design by the way)! :D The new levels are quite easy to 3-starr!

Well true. But I don’t mind having finished the levels when they were first introduced. When I think of it (now), it was a real challenge and I’m happy I passed it then :)
What’s the new flag button for in the Egg Defender levels?

In the Pause screen, the new “Flag” button allow you to restart your battle against the current piggy contraption.

I finished the defender levels out as a precaution. It was more fun this time around. The new levels seem a little boring, but I think part of that is having to follow great Star Wars and Space updates.
in this version (v3.3.0), windows xp users are not able to play this game again, so please upgrade to a newer windows that supports DirectX11 and OpenGL2.0
Your statement is partially inaccurate, wawan. It is true that v3.3.0 has raised ABo to these requirements. But both DirectX 11 and OpenGL 2.0 are supported on Windows XP, so those users have not been neglected.
Windows XP still has support from Microsoft until April 8, 2014 (and WinXP embedded version support ends on January 12, 2016). So, XP users still can play AB :)
from what I know Windows XP does not support DorextX11 only supports up to DirectX 9, which supports DirectX11 is Windows Vista or later

The latest DirectX version that you can install on Windows XP is DirectX 9.0C and on Windows Vista is DirectX 10.0.
Only Vista SP2, Windows 7 and Windows 8 supports DirectX 11.

When i open apps, daily power up reward is up.
@PJng Power Ups (including the daily award) can be disabled on the opening screen. Try the gear in the bottom-left corner.

I mean that daily reward that removed in prevoius update is back, after update when i open a level i see reward slot is up, mean daily reward is come back.

The daily power up hasn’t been coming up for me since I have put Angry Birds original back on in July July after I used up each of the 5 power ups. After this latest update, its back now.
Do you know why it wasn’t doing that for awhile before? I first thought maybe it was a bug.
@jaythecanadian It wasn’t a bug — Rovio removed it consciously. Their reason, however, I don’t know.

On the first screen, we can register now to Rovio (I’m in Canada). It gives us the total score, the number of stars and the number of feathers.

Umm, I’m not sure how this is supposed to work… I had completed all levels (stars+feathers) for v3.2.0. After updating to v3.3.0, I played 2 new levels of today’s update (23-1 & 23-2) without being signed into the cloud sync on main menu. After completing those 2 levels, i signed in, and it synced properly, and then i played and completed 3 more levels (23-3 & 23-4 & 23-5) which cloud synced too.
But the problem that occurred here is that when I signed out from cloud sync, it now only shows the first 2 levels only completed (23-1 & 23-2) instead of up till 23-5. Is it supposed to work this way? Shouldn’t my progress been shown to 23-5 regardless of whether I was signed in or signed out of the cloud sync? Someone please explain…
There are some weird things that happen with the data files when you log out of Rovio Accounts. I would recommend referring to the Rovio Accounts post and some of the suggestions we list at the end of it.
That Rovio account post wasn’t of much help… but thanks anyways.. will contact rovio directly about this. From what I understand right now. I think it’s meant to be like this:
Suppose you’ve played the game up till v3.2.0.. and then when the update came out, if you dont have your own primary device with you (on which you mostly play angry birds), then you can play it on your friend’s mobile. You sign into your rovio account from that mobile and get your progress onto that and continue flinging from there without any problem. But once you are done playing, you’ll sign out from that mobile, and now the game will show the old progress of your friend. Makes sense?
@tahirjamy I sort of wish I had never tried cloud sync. So many places here have no towers or internet. Now I can’t play ABO except at home, because my phone doesn’t seem to keep the scores any more. If I try to play without internet, ABO goes back to no scores on anything. :-( Sort of like when I try to play any of the Angry Birds versions I downloaded from Amazon. You can’t play those at all without internet, they just tell me I need internet and shut down. It kind of stinks when I can’t play games I paid for, but I can play the free versions with no problems.
Bsically the same with me! When play offline, I always have the number of stars I had before first syncing with the cloud. An yofficial statement by Rovio?
@hans-peter This is by design. This way, multiple users can use the same app and their progress will not overlap.

It seems that the disappointment on the previous update has now been turned around because of the new tweaks. Especially the Flag Button. BTW, I’ve only finished up to Egg Defender Level 5, so the new tweaks will be treat.
Also, while I like the Rovio Accounts idea, I’ll stick with the manual backup thing, just in case. Personal reasons. I’d only installed all of my Angry Bird games in my iPod Touch.
I also forgot to mention that this update shows one thing some of us may have already known: Whatever qualms we have, Rovio listens. Any changes as a result of that listening, of course, comes in due time. All to make us fans happy.
As a side note, I’m also hoping Disney Mobile would do the same with Where’s My Water 2. But that’s an issue in another forum, unless someone here likes to talk about it here.

Win 7 has directX11 error code also.. will wait for bug fix.. Maybe lol
@kimmy1971 I’m not sure a “bug fix” is needed. Simply install DirectX 11.

Really like the new green flag function in the Egg Defender levels. Considering I progressed only into level 6, this may make easier to complete the remaining levels.
Played a few of the Level 23 games and they are something new and a bit different. Fun to play and earn 3 stars.

Speaking of Rovio accounts,@amslimfordy the, PC version doesn’t have Sync service in the game, which stinks because i finished the Egg Defender levels on my Android, finished the new levels on my PC and now i have to beat the Egg Defender levels on my PC.
Rovio Accounts will eventually be available on all platforms, just not yet.

Judging by the final scene on the Egg Defender levels (it is the same as it was before) there will be. Otherwise the pigs will actually get the eggs for once.

Also, when I play any AB game, the trackpad doesn’t work and then closes immediately. Is this a bug? I have installed OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 7, so it can be a bug on the DP.
Oh boy, Now I REALLY have problems. @AMslimfordy downloaded this update and after it all installed, program tried to open and I got an error message, says: “OpenGL 2.0 renderer not supported! and DirectX11 renderer not supported!”
Now, in addition to having lost my Space data due to the update downloaded (see my post in that update section) I’ve also competely lost my AB data too. Can someone help me figure this out?

A lot of these levels are pretty easy; I got 3* on the first or second try and it took less than 1 hr to complete them all (not all with 3*). It does help, I think, to have played the egg defender mode. The levels in general get harder as you progress.
IMO, targeting red is now much improved, but still not as accurate as lazer bird. Red doesn’t always hit exactly where you tap.

@Josm — If you’re talking about where red hits, I was specifically noticing the “error” when he was targeting a stable building.

Having fun trying to complete allt he levels in all updates and getting things done outside of the game. College this week is going to make it tough to 3star all before Star Wars 2

Um, I updated the app this afternoon yet no new levels available for me. Reds mighty feathers still just has the 15 original levels. I’m playing on fully updated iPad 2. Help?
There are 15 levels on 2 pages. The left page says “23” at the very bottom; the right page has levels shaped like eggs.
If this doesn’t look right, go to the front “play” screen of the app. Click on the gear in the bottom-left corner, and then the “i” for information. The scrolling screen should say “Angry Birds v3.x.x”. If it says anything lower than 3.3.0, then you need to update your app. If it says v3.3.0, then scroll to the left page of Red’s Mighty Feathers.

Mine says 3.2.0 but in App Store, I don’t have the option to update, though it’s listed as needing to update. There’s just a link to open instead of install.

I would definitely suggest restarting your iPhone/iPad. If that doesn’t work, try manually searching for the app in the AppStore.
Can someone tell me if the missing “Bad Piggies” levels are now available for PC ? The “coming soon” message has been there for more than a year !

An update icon has not appeared on my Bad Piggies home screen. I just manually ran the re-install (by downloading the trial version, as previously instructed by Rovio support) from the Rovio website and I still don’t have any episodes of Rise and Swine after 2-12. The “Coming Soon” message is still there. (PC, Windows XP Pro SP3)
@l188fe Bad Piggies hasn’t been updated. It was the final levels of the Bad Piggies episode in Angry Birds Original that was.
I am playing on iPad, the first new level. Sometimes instead of the level ending normally, I get bounced to back to the new level selection screen. Not a big deal, but I haven’t seen that type of problem before.
