Bad Piggies Weekend Challenge RECAP – Build a Throne! (With an iOS8 Fix)

Bad Piggies Weekend Challenge Build a Throne 11 Oct 2014

How would the King Pig fare in the Game of Thrones?

Good news! The Bad Piggies dev team has fixed the game late last week, hopefully solving the iOS8 issues that have been affecting iPork users around the world.

You do know what an iPork is, do you? It’s like an iPad, only Pigger :)

“What’s New in Version 1.5.4
We have now added support for iOS 8.”

Rovio gave the community a challenge last weekend, to enter the King Pig into the Game of Thrones.

Most of the Weekend Challenge entries to date would likely involve building a great big chair for the large, round and green Bacon Royalty to rule from, but Rovio didn’t state what kind of throne was desired.

You could build a self-propelled throne, a flying throne (maybe a lawn chair, to save cost), or even a completely different type of throne made out of porcelain!

You could even try and explain the science involved in controlling such an unwieldy thing as a flying throne with a fat pig on it, like so!

The choice is up to you, maybe, after devouring too much chili and beans, a Porcelain Throne would be most suitable for the Royal Fatness? Why don’t you share some of your thrones below?

Wan Hu’s Throne (0:30)

BP doesn’t give me 47 rockets or 47 servants, so I can’t do it justice, but what better throne for his Fatness to sit upon than the mythical throne of Wan Hu? This time, I decided to actually see pigs fly, rather than explode on the launch pad, like poor Wan did in his legend.

From wiki: “Early in the sixteenth century, Wan decided to take advantage of China’s advanced rocket and fireworks technology to launch himself into outer space. He supposedly had a chair built with forty-seven rockets attached. On the day of lift-off, Wan, splendidly attired, climbed into his rocket chair and forty seven servants lit the fuses and then hastily ran for cover. There was a huge explosion. When the smoke cleared, Wan and the chair were gone, and was said never to have been seen again.”

Whoa! This is awesome. I know of the story of the rocket chair and your pigitization is simply perfect!

The most fun bits?

1. Seeing the chair veer ever so slightly to the left then recover and boost clear of the cliff.
2. Watching it spin out of control then recover at the last minute with decouplers raining down all over the place.

Simply put, a brilliant and refreshingly new masterpiece! I’m going to post this up on Twitter and Facepork in a few hours time.

@les-toreadors Glad it met your approval :) It took me a half-hour (and many crashes) swapping rockets and practicing the timing to get it to do that veering/near-miss thing. I figured if I must subject people to a puny 30 second video, the least I could do is add a little drama. :)

I had a few other throne models including one with a little pig and his own throne, tethered to the big throne, but, well, you can imagine how aerodynamic that…wasn’t. :)

I’ve yet to find a PIGineering creation that I didn’t like and find truly creative!

Great Work Guys!

@les-toreadors you should make a volcano!

i think it was done, or not?

Not really, I haven’t presented stacks of TNT as volcanos :) It would be a fine idea to make one right meow and post it for Friday Fave on facepork :)

I can think of a few volcano ideas. My favorite would require a LOT more pumpkins, eggs and piggies, though. :)

Lets make some and share em then!

I would think random wheels, unattached bellows and airplane parts would make for a fine show of debris flying all over the place.

Oh and don’t forget to see if you can use the massive explosive power to glitch the springs. They can form mini “lightning storms” if stretched too far by 4 or more TNTs going off near them.

You could make more than one! It’s more epiger, believe me! I am not so good at making good stuff on Bad Piggies, so I think I’ll just make a stack of TNT. :)

Never underestimate the power of a simple stack of TNT!

You can use it to stick stuff on the ceiling…

Or make improvized artillery!

@les-toreadors Your ranged weaponry skills always made me incredibly envious. My piggies fabrication and design tolerances leave a lot to be desired. They’re not so great at aiming, either. :)

Seeing this artillery video gave me an idea. Have you ever had a Punkin’ Chunkin’ contest? :) If you’re not familiar, that’s where people build gloriously complex devices designed to hurl small gourds into the next zip code.

In a moment of serendipity, it occurred to me that the normal piggy is about punkin-sized, and we have plenty of toys available to send him…away. I’d love to see just how far across the map people are able to punt the little guy during a Bacon Chunkin contest. :)

LOL. That video is all kinds of awesome. Those aren’t ‘potato cannons’, they’re actual pumpkin howitzers lol.

They look more like the railway guns of the first World War than hobby creations. Especially that huge one built out of a school bus chassis.

For distance shots I’ve experimented with both altitude records (ceiling) and distance (this one quite recently this year).

Punting a pig clear across the map so far hasn’t been done because of the tendency of the lard to absorb the force of an explosion, but an egg did just fine probably because it is made out of pure adamantium and thus nearly indestructible – if what I read from X-Men comics is correct.

This experiment was inspired by some sports science documentaries on YouTube where they attempted to document in exacting detail what went on in a full court basketball throw and how difficult it was.

Well, you did say let’s make some..

Bad Piggies Volcano – 3 Versions

@les-toreadors I couldn’t get a springy lightning storm with my designs, but at least they’re festive:

v1- Krakatau/Krakatoa
v2-Kilauea (no space to make it a shield volcano. :o( )
v3 Supposed to be Mount St. Helens, but after adding the minor earthquake on the right side, I got distracted and forgot to make it blast the side off the mountain. Ah well. :)

I made a cart once that was a row of TNT, followed by a row of downward punching blocks, and every random-facing rocket and leftover TNT piled on top. Triggering Rockets, TNT, then punching blocks made for a lovely show. Although now that I think about it, it was more like an exploding fireworks/clown supply store than a volcano. :)

Nice job @kelani! Now that is what I call three exploding volcanos! :)

Hehehehe! Moar boom good!

I haven’t had time to pig out yet but here’s a lightning storm demo in case anyone wants to play Peus (it’s like Zeus, God of Thunder, only pigger!)

Btw, I have an evil plan ™ to put the volcano here on the ABN frontpage… hehehehe…

Rank: Master Slinger with 7130 points
By Kelani (@kelani)

@les-toreadors Whoa…That’s so weird. I’ve been saying evil plan®™ since I was a littleKel! Are you…my long-lost brother/sister/bacon wholesaler? :o)

btw, If you made a LTcano, I say let ABN rejoice in its explodyness :)

btw, I watched your egg punting demonstration. I don’t know how I missed it before, but that sets the Egg record for distance and accuracy as far as I’m concerned.

I still keep trying to get extra range out of a piggy, though. Sure, a wall of TNT can send him to the first set of elevated landscapes, but I’m not going to rest until I find some way to send him even further. (It may be a very long wait) :)

The main obstacle to punting the pig further is the pig’s weight, but having consulted the bacon-dynamic wizards of the realm (in my dreams, no less), it may be possible to ‘reduce’ the weight of the pig by putting a balloon above him.

A pig with a balloon is impervious to TNT explosions due to a glitch in the Matrix, and this setup may be the world’s first hypersonic lighter than air vehicle. Move over, X-43! :)
