Angry Birds Stella Spin-off Coming Fall 2014

Angry Birds Stella PosterYesterday the ‘Nest was abuzz with speculation about what Rovio’s #newangrybirds teasers on Twitter were all about. Today, we have confirmation that the Pink Bird, aka Stella, is getting her own — likely female-focused — franchise.

“Best Friends Forever …. Most of the Time”

That’s the tagline for Angry Birds Stella that is displayed on the new stella.angrybirds.com landing page. Per the press release, “Angry Birds Stella is all about inspiration, empowerment and other real issues, without forgetting entertainment and quirky fun.”

This is more than just a game or update, it’s a whole new franchise. “Angry Birds Stella will bring fans a wide range of entertainment across multiple media, such as games, animation, toys, books and other retail products for many years to come.”

So what does this mean for us super flingers? Well, the press release does mention ‘games’, but it’s hard to say for sure what type of games they are referring to. I would definitely be surprised if this spinoff didn’t include a new mobile game however. But as we all know, not all mobile games are created equal, so let’s hope it’s something we can all enjoy as a community!

I for one am excited to see what’s to come. How about you? Let us know below.

Angry Birds: Female version for them feminist who can’t seem to be pleased by anything.

I’ll bet someone there’s saying: So this means that by making a game full of female characters, it’s not equal?

But I do know somebody who said: Angry Birds is sexist because there’s only one female character. That jerk doesn’t even know that the white bird is a female. What an idiot.

All I want to say is that I hope that there aren’t any feminists complaining on this game, since this is about fun, and money- er I mean enjoymment for all the little kiddies and adults who play it.

Well, if there are the Telepods we should hope for something not like a build a village, help find something.
I do hope that the female team will not make the game girlish or infantile.
And i am quite intrigued with the big bird with a crown!

Oh please don’t let this be Rovio making the same mistake so many other companies make – turn everything pink and fluffy then women will buy it! Check out how well Dell went when they introduced “Della” on the same theory…

Dear Rovio, women like blowing up pigs too, and the birds don’t have to be pink to enjoy that.

Still, I have no problem with a female-themed game. Why would anyone? (although clearly a couple of commenters do, bizarre). They could just add that to the main game but this is Rovio looking for a new angle to make money on and a new game will make a lot more.

Should be interesting to see if they get it right. Finland is generally far more modern when it comes to feminism, can’t really judge until we see the final result.

P.S. I think Angry Birds had a foray into its Dork Age when it added “Red’s Mighty Feathers”…
