Amidst the hype of Angry Birds Star Wars II, which will be released on September 19th, Rovio refuses to neglect their existing apps. We have already seen updates to Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Rio in the past week, and a few other updates are known to be coming soon (such as the original and Space).
In their Angry Birds Star Wars II announcement Rovio stated that Luke Sky-squawker was not done, and this is the first known image — exclusive to ABN (thanks!) — from the forthcoming Return of the Jedi update. The exact release date is still unknown, but it’s probably safe to assume it will exiting lightspeed in the next couple of weeks.
If you recall the story line, the porkpire has built a second Death Star not far from the Forest Moon of Endor. The shield generator that protects this massive battle station resides on the moon, so the rebels have to take it out if they have any hope of destroying the Death Star. The Endor Moon is the home of the cute and cuddly Ewoks (okay, not all of them are so cute), which help the rebels in their battle to defeat the porkpire and destroy the shield generator.
Based on the image above it looks like we will be thrown into the middle of this epic battle. Thankfully, the fearless Ewoks our on our side and have constructed one of their ingenious traps. Oblivious to the danger the pigtroopers have taken refuge around the trap to build or repair an AT-AT from a moss covered AT-AT leg they are carrying. Seeing how clever these Ewoks are I would expect the the levels to contain a lot more traps to help the Rebels in their quest.
As to be expected, the Angry Birds Star Wars Return of the Jedi update will be covered over multiple updates. Whether this means multiple episodes, or multiple updates within a single episode, isn’t clear. But we will have plenty of Star Wars — both original and prequel trilogies — in our gaming future!
Second Leaked Image! (14 August)
Happy birthday to us! We want to celebrate our third birthday with a bang. And what better way to do that… than with another leaked image!
It seems from the image that the pigtroopers are continuing to build up their defenses. We also see a brand new gameplay element: A drum, presumably made by the Ewoks. But how on Endor can Han get past that AT-AT?! We’ll have to wait and see!
