Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth Level 3-40 Walkthrough

Boss fight! Our strategy for Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth level 3-40 is to fling Chewie straight ahead, through some mynocks and into the TNT beyond. The ensuing blasts should take out most of Wave 1, which contains five mynocks. For Wave 2, which contains another five, aim Han toward the top row of mynocks and shoot out the held TNT. For Wave 3, which contains two normal sized mynocks and one “Fat Pig”-sized mynock, use Leia’s tractor beam to pull the debris from the passing TNT. Use Luke’s lightsaber, if necessary, to finish off the level. The score in the video below is 129,670.

The key here is to hit as many pigs off the screen as you can. Obviously, the only way to control this is to hit the tnts on the bottom, throwing stuff up and right.

For the first shot, I liked to throw Chewie a little above straight immediately when the level starts. Hopefully he’ll hit a few pigs, and then the tnt on the bottom. If he misses too many pigs, restart. If the bottom thing is just a hill with nothing on it, or you miss the tnt, restart. You’ll want at least 30k after this shot, but more is better (I’ve gotten above 50k).

For Han, I just threw him ahead and tried to blast as many pigs as possible, focusing on the ones holding rocks first. A lot of luck here, and you can try to hit more tnt on the bottom with Han, but I’ve found it’s hard to aim and you’re pretty likely to just happen to hit it if you get the pigs to drop a few rocks.

Shot 3 is the hard one. The more you’ve popped up until now, the less you have to deal with in addition to fatty. (If fatty still hasn’t appeared after the first two shots, you didn’t kill enough pigs this time, so restart.) It really helps if he has a black eye already (as he does in the above video) from getting hit off screen, but of course you have very little control over this. Wait for a big pile of stuff at the bottom, then use Leia’s power to throw it at everything, but focus on fatty since he’s the hardest to kill. This is a tough shot, and I missed many times before finally hitting everything.

You’re welcome to use Luke to clear up and see what you get, but it’s hard for him to kill fatty alone, he usually just bounces off if it’s not already damaged. For good scores though, you’re gonna have to finish with Leia.

Now, it’s totally possible to get really lucky and finish in two shots (and I see no reason why you can’t get insanely lucky and finish in one). But I didn’t have that happen, so I’ll let someone else describe that.

this is precisely what i am trying to do. I am only 8000 short of three stars. I just can’t seem to get enough mynocks killed to start with…i always have to take out the fat one with the blues brothers…and by then there just aren’t enough points for three stars. I shall keep at it though.

Note: Luke’s lightsaber has no effect on the Fat Pig Mynock whatsoever.

By Liam

Not in my experience. I got him with Luke’s saber. It is matter of being as close as possible, then swing. Otherwise, poor Luke just bounces off. The tip of the saber will not kill it, nor will a ‘2nd’ swipe.

Unfortunately this one really comes down to luck. Like @cal010 said above, trying to blow up TNT and kill pigs off screen is really the way to go. Through a lucky freak accident I completed this using only 3 birds and bypassed 2 of the Mynock waves by killing them before they arrived.

Yes, way too much luck involved. I think they missed a good opportunity to make this an epic level.

I shoot Chewie quickly to try and hit the mynock with the boulders. With luck, that starts a chain reaction of off-screen explosions. If not, I reload. I had over 70k one one play and was able to have Han finish off the rest with his own series of explosions for 142960.

Luck is only factor that gives really high scores on this level (or at least it seems so). First time when I played this, I was concentrated to kill mynocks visible on screen, I ended with shameful score 112k, not even enough for 3 stars. Then I played for better score finished with modest 119k. I try to improve to be close or above average, once I had about 75k after Chewie, three mynocks and Boss and Han to finish level, which I missed (of course), as one stubborn mynock left. I thought that I have Luke (not Leia) as next bird and tried to kill that last mynock with light saber (like Luke would)….Well I ended with this score that I have now.
There are very good chances to have high score if you have about 75k after Chewie, that’s what I wanted to say.
Ha, ha… Once Boss was killed out of screen and I run game with two remaining mynocks, for about 2 minutes before I figured out that.
Anyway, I love “luck involved” levels but only when luck is on my side, otherwise I hate them.

My observations when trying to 3-star this level:
Luke cannot kill the fat mynock in one hit, either with his body or his lightsabre.
(One of) The Rebels can take out the fat mynock in one hit.

Son, I am dissapoint.

And now that I improved my score to 124k, I feel like I should share how I work it out.

1st shot (Chewie): As the mynocks are always moving, aiming at them is pointless. Instead aim Chewie at about 5 degrees upwards, and release as soon as you see a large pile. The optimum trajectory should blow most rubble upwards and clear wave 1.
2nd shot (Han): I took the advice from @cal010, with a bit of flexibility. Shoot Han as wave 2 approaches, and fire the laser when you see at least 3 mynocks line up on a straight line. That’s the best Han can do. Of course, it could be better if one of the mynocks is holding pebbles.
3rd shot (Leia): Big note: when missed, Leia’s tractor beam is nothing more than a laser; however, the heat generated from the beam is enough to ignite the TNT. So take the same shot as the first (i.e. release as soon as a large pile appears), and fire the beam at the ground just next to the TNT as soon as she is released. Luckily I dealt partial damage to the fat mynock with Leia’s beam, as well as the remaining minions.
4th shot (Luke): The final blow.
5th shot (Rebels): 10k.
6th shot (Obi-Wan): 10k.

Score: 124,650, quite decent IMHO.

What is the meaning of the debris falling from the sky in all levels from 31 to 40 altre some pig is killer and some points are collected? Are these this vs useful to obtain more points or something else?

You can force the chain reaction by shooting the tnt/steel ball piles, instead of shooting the mynocks. Target them with Chewie, with Han’s laser, and with Leia’s ray. Also, there’s a pattern to the piles, and the game doesn’t start the same way each time. A little practice and a little luck and you can get the chain going most of the time.

Not much to add except that I Scored better when Chewie was tossed as per @Cal010 and @bullets0000 (rather than in a high arch as per @communistpride – the high arch method does not return high scores as consistently) I found that by aiming Chewie nearly straight into the pigs he would land on the TNT and the rocks would take out all pigs on screen as well as some off. It’s important to keep debris flying to to the right, to kill some of the pigs that are waiting off screen. I wait until a pile of rocks and TNT is coming up then kill a pig with rocks. It’s especially nice if flying rocks from around one TNT go so far as to ignite the next TNT! Good luck

For the first two shots, nothing new. But I found that the best way to kill the boss mynock (and cause enough additional damage in the process) is to fire Leia’s tractor beam directly at it! it pulls the boss mynock into the ground or into the Falcon, which destroys it.

Third shoot with Leia at Boss Mynock and little over last mini mynock. That all. I made huge improvement at total Hoth and SW & I’m continue points hunting.

Well after days, I finally got an above average score with just 3 birds for 132430 on Android phone. One HUGE thing I noticed when restarting, is the “landscape” on the bottom isn’t always the same & this has an enormous influence on points scored & therefore gameplay, so I’m marking this as an alternate strategy because I’m beginning to think it isn’t as much luck based as it is watching the landscape on the bottom & timing your launches to maximize the explosions. Of course great aim is still required. I’m really surprised that with all the great player/analyzers no one else has looked into this given the difficulty so many, including me are having with this level.

I noted 4 different landscapes which appear on the bottom shortly after restarting:

1. A rocky crag with no TNT, wood or stones

2. TNT, 2 square stones & 3 square wooden blocks

3. TNT with 3 round stones

4. TNT, 3 wooden blocks & 3 round stones

While @jeffinsgf mentioned there was a pattern, it seemed to me that these appeared randomly & what then appeared as the 2nd or next, “item” or pile was also random. While taking notes, I restarted 15 times & it certainly appeared to not follow a pattern. For example, the 1st, 6th, 7th, 9th & 13th restarts showed just the TNT with 3 small round stones as the first thing to appear on the bottom landscape & each time, something different appeared as the next “item” or pile. Only twice however, during the 2nd & 12th restarts was the TNT, with 2 square stones & 3 wooden blocks what appeared first. I’ll not post the stats with the 2 other different landscapes, but you understand where I’m headed with the seemingly randomness here.

Perhaps someone with a younger more analytical brain can figure this out. For now, I’m going to spend just a little more time trying for a better score, but with all of these variations at the bottom of the screen effecting scoring, I may just move on until someone else figures this out.
