At long last! At very long last! Angry Birds Space has landed for iOS, PC, Mac, NOOK Color, and Android via the Android Market and Amazon Appstore. We will definitely know more as we delve a bit deeper into Angry Birds Space, but here’s what we know so far. The initial launch of Angry Birds Space includes:
- 60 gravity-defying levels: 30 from Pig Bang and 30 from Cold Cuts. The Angry Birds Space leaderboard is online and ready for your scores. Walkthrough pages are also up, so feel free to provide your strategies and help us track down those minimum 3 star scores.
- 30 brain-teaser, extremely difficult levels in an episode called Danger Zone. Our video walkthroughs are available, but we warn you that they are very challenging. On iOS, Danger Zone is an in-app purchase, though level one is already unlocked, so you can try one level before you chose to buy the episode for $0.99. On PC, Danger Zone unlocks if you pass all 30 levels Pig Bang. It is available for free on Samsung Android devices. As for other devices, only time will tell.
- A Golden Eggsteroids episode, which are the Angry Birds Space equivalent to Golden Eggs. This episode is locked by default. It unlocks once you’ve found your first Golden Eggsteroid. When found, Golden Eggsteroids unlock bonus levels, some levels pay homage to a few classic 1980’s video games. This is reportedly Rovio’s not-so-subtle nod to its video game predecessors.
- For iOS there are new achievements via Game Center. For the first time we’ve actually created some video walkthroughs that can help with some of the hard achievements.
- Poppable space suits (bubbles) on the home screen and throughout the game (i.e. check out the credits).
- New animated bird help menus that help you understand the different powers.
- The Space Eagle is making an appearance (see more below).
- Quick tip #1! Frozen pigs will pop on their own.
- Quick tip #2! To unlock the first level in an episode you need to hit the “Play” button and watch the first comic. Afterwards, you’ll be taken to the very first level.
- Quick tip #3! If you hit an Eggsteroid, like the one on level 1-9, you’re automatically transported via a wormhole to that Eggsteroid level.
- Quick tip #4! Lazer Bird isn’t affected by gravity when he’s targeting (after tap), but after impacting something gravity will exert force.
As you can tell, Angry Birds Space is launching on many platforms at once. Here’s a quick breakdown on the different flavors and their subsequent cost. Regardless of what version you chose, I’m sure the few dollars that it sets you back will be well worth it. In most cases it’s cheaper than a Happy Meal at McDonald’s.
- iOS: There are two flavors. The SD version costs $0.99 USD, which is identical to the other Angry Birds apps in the past. The HD version costs $2.99 USD, which includes retina support for the new iPad (colloquially, the iPad 3). At this time, it is unclear if there will be a free and/or trial version like the other three apps. Angry Birds Space for iOS will run on iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod Touch (3rd, 4th gen) and requires iOS 4.0 or later (iPad requires 4.2 or later).
- Android via Amazon Marketplace: There is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version, and a $2.99 HD version for Kindle Fire (nice!).
- Android via Android Market / Google Play: Just as above, there is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version called “Premium”, an a $2.99 HD version for tablets. Requires Android OS 1.6, just as before.
- PC: $5.95, a dollar more than the other Angry Birds apps in the past (the extra dollar may be for Danger Zone being included). There is also a demo available which allows you to play levels 1-1 through 1-15 of Pig Bang.
- Mac: $4.99 and requires OS X 10.6.6 or later.
Understanding The Mighty Space Eagle
The Mighty Space Eagle has arrived, although it’s not exactly what you’re used to! On iOS at least, we first see the option to use the Space Eagle on level 1-11 of Pig Bang. The Space Eagle pops out of the sardine can through a wormhole and quickly blasts the surrounding area before returning to Earth. There are a few important differences though.
- You must have at least one unfired bird in the slingshot to use the sardine can.
- Most notably, the Space Eagle isn’t buy once, unlimited use. Rather, it’s treated more like a power-up. On iOS you receive three trials and then are prompted to purchase more. You can buy 20 cans for $0.99, 80 for $2.99, 280 for $7.99, or 980 for $19.99. We should also mention that you can earn Space Eagles via gameplay, though probably not enough to make significant progress in feather collecting.
- Using the Space Eagle does NOT automatically pop all pigs and clear the level, like it does in the other versions of Angry Birds. You must keep flinging.
- We’ve heard reports that the number of birds you use actually affects your destruction percentage. In the past the birds could help you, but didn’t directly affect your percentage. This is unconfirmed.
Let’s Find those Golden Eggsteroids! Clues Abound
Update! We’ve found all five Eggsteroids and our Complete Angry Birds Space Golden Eggsteroids Guide is ready and waiting if you need it. The Golden Eggsteroids leaderboard is up as well, so head on over and enter your scores.
If you want to track them down the Golden Eggsteroids yourself, we’ve outlined the clues we’re aware of below. If you aren’t interested in sleuthing for clues, our Complete Golden Eggsteroids Guide is available as a shortcut. Okay, on to the clues we know exist so far:
- One hint is available by participating in MTV’s “A THIN LINE” campaign, which we wrote about a few days ago.
- Several hints will available via Walmart, both by their Facebook page and by physical Angry Birds Space merchandise. Supposedly their Facebook Page will be updated with a clue today. But that’s not all. Per this USA Today article, “three more clues will be hidden in a new line of limited-edition plush toys, T-shirts and candy that the retailer will begin selling on Sunday. The 5- and 8-inch plush birds ($9.97 and $14.97, respectively), $6.97 T-shirt and Space Fruit Snacks ($2.18) could have clues on the price tag, in the packaging or within the shirts.”
- Furthermore, T-Mobile stores within Walmart will offer a free level to those who buy an Android smartphone. We’re not sure at this time if this is an exclusive level or some type of unlock.
Lastly, I should also add that all Samsung users have access to a bonus Golden Eggsteroid. Since it’s not available for everyone it’s not included on our leaderboard.

Does anyone know if the Walmart codes are EXTRA levels, or simply clues to find the Golden Eggsteroids?

As usual, I’ve got a question: Those with smart phones, esp. the iPhone have iTunes. There’s a free app “The Daily’s Angry Birds Space Guide for iPad / iPhone. It can be used with the PC too BUT I would have to download the itune program [true, it’s free as well.
I had iTunes on my PC several years ago and just remember all the trouble I had with it including EVEN trying to get rid of it! It acted like a trojan taking over ops and just being annoying & irritating. I would love to have the Daily app guide but want to know if iTunes has “matured” and not being a spoiled child any more taking over “Teh Woirld.”
Can I configure iTunes to work ONLY when I want to use it and only for certain programs?
Is there anyone who is using the Daily Guide, and could let me know if it’s worth getting? Also, should I get the iTunes program? Is it “friendlier” then it used to be?

I find that this website is so much friendlier then the app store. On the app store people swear and are all like “I flung a bird at a pig and it didn’t pop, delete!” While this website cares about what you say! In the App Store, people either rate this game with 1 star (they say it crashes) or with 5 stars.
A lot of people are unhappy about the ME fee system. Not very logical if you ask me.

This is easier to do on iPad but works on the sd game
Pull the bird out as if you were going to fire then move it into the centre of the slig shot and let go it shouldn’t of fired but will remain in the slingshot ready to be used.
It’s not exciting I know but you can’t do it on the other apps
I’ve noticed that too. Very useful if you are ready to fire and then notice that more things are collapsing.
It also allows for a partial-pull technique, which can be very useful.
I noticed that more and more items are adding and flying on my title screen,don’t know how did I get that TNT,Frozen asteroids,and that pig UFO,first time I played,those items weren’t there,anybody know how to get these items? :)

No but that pig is so fat and massive it must have its own force of gravity! Ha ha.
That is the fat pig a.k.a. Mega Pork, and feeding him is one of the King Pig’s main goals, alongwith capturing the Eggsteroid. He is slated to appear in later updates.

I got the Pig Bang Score Addict when I was in Cold Cuts. I am not sure but I suspect that I much have just reached 1,900,000 in Cold Cuts. I know that my Pig Bang score was around 1,800,00 at that time.
I am pretty sure I have not reached 1900000 in Danger Zone at that point.
I don’t think i had even started Danger Zone at that point.
Right, In reply to Slim’s question, I was somewhere in the middle of Danger Zone at that point, and had much less than 1900000 in Danger Zone, less than 1900000 in Pig Bang, and unfortunately i do not recall what score I had in Cold Cuts at that time.
I have over 1,900,000 points in Pig Bang and still haven’t gotten my achievement! I’ve tried shutting down, restarting AB space and game center, but still no achievement. Maybe one of you guys got mine instead….

There seems to be something amiss. Try playing some of Cold Cuts or Danger Zone and I bet it shows up during that.
I’ve been playing Danger Zone for hours (got my 15 hr achievement!) and still no pig bang score addict. Hopefully it will come when I get the cold cut score addict.
Will it come to iOS 3.0 too? I want it so bad but I can’t download it!

Got 31 “Total Destruction Feathers” so far (All in Pig Bang & first level of Cold cuts) still 841 MEs to go.
I have 50 feathers. I’m missing total destruction in Pig Bang levels 1-8, 1-10, 1-18, 1-19 and 1-23. Any tips?
1-8: throw the sardine can between the 3 ice cubes pyramid and the left part of the arch
1-10: throw two sardine cans at each planet
1-18: throw the sardine can on the small rock to deflect and stand on the left hand side strucutre, it will take off both structures
1-19: throw the sardine can on the second bottom stone, it will take off the structre and the pigs is space
1-23: throw a sardine can on the TNT on the opposite side of the slinger

No, in 1-10 you need two sardine cans. In some Cold Cuts levels you need 3 cans.

Right, all feathers collected on the Pig Bang & Cold Cuts episodes, now working on danger zone, got one from the 1st level, still more than 680 MEs left for the next 29 levels of Danger zone, that give me around 23 sardine can per level. I hope I can spare some for the upcoming updates.

I finally collected all Space Eagle feathers, Danger Zone 19 was tough, I was stuck at 97% but after several tries and change in tactics I managed to get the Total Destruction, I didn’t get anything unusuall after collecting all stars and feathers, “Collct 50 feathers” achievment hasn’t unlocked yet.
This achievement seems to be bugged.
Congratulations!! What’s more, this confirms that all 90 feathers are attainable.

On my kindle fire, I was always able to download the SD version of AB. For AB Space I am only able to get the HD version. Is this the way it’s supposed to be?
i dont know if u knw this but you can change each bird you have to a can ! i.e you can use the eagle more than once in one level

when i saw the danger zone,the levels were shaped like minesweepers.

im very happy with angry birds space. it turned out to be a pretty awesome game. but i think the most satisfying thing about it is FINALLY having some new achievements! 3 starring the levels and finding the golden eggs is fun and all, but in my opinion theres nothing more satisfying than playing the game and seeing those little windows pop up in the corner saying youve reached another achievement! i hope they are able to get the situation fixed with the first 3 games and we can continue getting achievements there!
I found out after getting three stars on a whole level pack, you’ll get 10 sardine packs.
loving playing this, stayed up for the game release i’ve been so excited about it, but man there are some problems with it. it crashes so often, and i’ve heard from others around my school its not just me, plus whats all this with the buying of everything now?? especially M.E.!! i did buy danger zone, but still, all this with the mighty eagle has ruined so much of the game i couldnt wait for! now i have to be extra careful hitting pause bc now i could potentially hit the ME and waste a sardine can! (already did this once!) i’m loving it, but so much of it is so so so so so dissatisfying…
I have Android, so I don’t have the ME in this version, but I have the T-Mobile version of ABo with ME, and I’m always hitting the eagle eye instead of pause. I hadn’t thought of that happening on games where you have to pay for ME.
When the eagle is unlimited hitting it instead of pause is just a minor inconvenience. When you have to pay for it, it could get very expensive!
I just did this by mistake, but I found that if you do hit the ME by mistake, as long as you don’t fire the sardine can but just pause and restart the level instead, you don’t “spend” the eagle. My ME count was x3, when I hit the ME by mistake it went down to x2 with the can in the slingshot, but when I restarted without firing it went back up to x3.

Guys,I think I know what planet will be added in the next update,don’t know for sure,but according to the images in PC files,I found a fiery lava-covered asteroid,I’m guessing a Volcano themed planet,and on the audio files I heard the white bird’s egg bomb explosion,just guessing :)

@AMslimfordy – Considering that the Admins of this board proudly boasts, promotes, and sends users to posting regarding how to backup highscores and settings files, etc… that take you into the guts of the app to extract these files, that is a pretty hypocritical stance, don’t you think?
I don’t think so. Rovio is OK with us helping people backup their progress because it’s safe. But their data files are their data files. If you know where to look, you’re welcome to look of course. But we don’t want people delving into the heart of viewable data files.
While I fully agree with you that their data files are their data files, once it’s released into the public, it’s fair game for people to view. If anything were posted that would try to alter the game, cheat, modify it in any way, or anything of that respect, I could fully understand, but these were just graphics, and the tools to get to them are widely available (the same tools you use to backup your files to be exact). Also, since you’ve already placed the tools in people’s hand on how to get to the heart of things, isn’t it better to have exact instructions/locations/purposes than for others to take those same tools and randomly and potentially haphazardly create havoc and/or accidentally delete/remove/alter a file by mistake (it happens to the best of us at times)?
If you notice, the backup files, in this case the highscores and settings files, are located in a different destination than these graphic images/tools and at no point was this destination referred to in the Back-up Post.
@heathen – you may want to read that end user license agreement that you probably clicked past without looking at. Not that they would ever enforce it, but I am sure Rovio has restricted access to their source code at least in theory.
@iamMighty – You are incorrect. The information is clearly found in the articles. You can’t tell users to backup a file without telling them where it is.
@Burbman – We are talking pics here, not source code, and while the pics would be copy protected, they are fair game to view once released to the public inside of an app.

why has no one said anything about the fact that it is completly evil that: there is thirty levels for just Samsung users, that you have to essentially pay for each mighty eagle (who in their right mind would pay twenty dollars for a bunch of m.e. s…I have a tablet (not Samsung) and I am missing out on a lot. I really think its just bad buisness that this has come out like this…I have loved angry birds since I first saw it years ago and I think space it is the best game period. But I am very dissatisfied with all the purchases you are supposed to but.

The Mighty Eagle is not available for any Android phones (besides T-Mobile devices, ABo only). No platform as the Eagle free forever. There is no timeframe for the Mighty Eagle to land on Android devices, let alone a timeframe as narrow as 3 months. And there is no evidence as to which apps will have the Mighty Eagle on Android even when that functionality arrives.
Had some thoughts about the missing birds abilities – this is just something that occurred to me and has no basis in any kind of fact whatsoever.
White Bird – I am thinking that maybe the normal white bird will be fine, maybe tweak the egg bomb some how, but I am not sure how.
Green Bird – The first of my ideas :D. He has pretty much been superceded by Lazer for the boomerang ability, but maybe when triggered he should spin on the spot creating a gravity well?
Orange Bird – the second of my ideas :D. In normal conditions, once inflated his trajectory slows dramatically – but what if in space he didn’t lose speed when inflated in space, AND once inside a gravity field is either immune or at least not as severely affected by the gravity field (when inflated). When not inflated he would be pretty much the same as Red.
What do you think? (Should I mail Rovio?)

I thought of the green bird being able to teleport.
Is it just me that finds the new birds very small? (Playing on iPhone) On many levels you can’t zoom in at all and many of the birds looks quite similar, unlike the old-style ones which were very different colours. The dotted line also changes colour with different birds which helps, but it’s a lot less clear than original AB. Maybe I’m getting old!
I have the same problem. I play more often on my computer than on my phone for that reason.
On the other versions, when there is a complicated level with lots of stuff so you can’t zoom in, I have problems telling the difference between the bomb bird and orange bird.
Even with a 4.3″ screen, it’s really difficult to see big, complicated levels.
